Very interesting. The light floats on a bed of mercury and must be constantly maintained by two resident keepers. If you are there alone and meet Cliff, give him the puppy eyes and say you heard he's a great photographer.

Was well worth the drive, the road has been recently redone, most of it is paved and the last mile or 2 is gravel but was in very good shape, the scenery is just amazing.

(Translated) It's just a lighthouse without any interpretation of anyone, no toilet service and almost 200km to get there with a road in very bad condition, I do not recommend to make the trip is a loss of time. (Original) C'est juste un phare sans aucune interprétation de qui que ce soit, sans service de toilette et près de 200km pour s'y rendre avec une route en très mauvaise état, je ne recommande pas de faire le trajet c'est une perte de temps.

Decided to take a detour on the Irish loop to visit cape race. The paved section of the road in was excellent and the gravel road was in better condition than most of the roads on the rest of the loop. A beautiful drive out. The views from the lighthouse itself were spectacular, the weather was superb, and the lighthouse keeper came and said hello as well! There are two outhouses (in pristine condition) at the rcmp station near mistaken point/just before long beach if you need to use those as well.

The historical significance of this lighthouse is huge. I recall the Heritage Canada commercials reenacting the Marconi station and the importance of the lighthouse at Cape Race. Newfoundland is certainly a place of fishermen, lighthouses and the ocean. It’s particularly charming and this place is not different. They do have a feature exhibit about the Titanic transition and the various other historical importance relating to this point in the North Atlantic! If you are a history buff or just want to gain some appreciation for scale and perspective about how far we’ve come in terms of communicating with one another, this is a must stop. Even if you are neither of those, they do a good job of the exhibit relevant to our country’s history.

An absolutely beautiful ride on my motorcycle to the Light Station. Over 20 km's off the main road, first part paved and the rest on a perfectly packed gravel road. The coast line scenery is amazing as each crest of a new hill offered a different panoramic view. It felt like the road and scenery would go on forever ????

It's a long drive but you can also see the fossils at Mistaken point its along the way. About the last 5 miles is on a gravel road. Saw a lot of whales while we were tgete
