I always find that visiting the local museum of a place increases my perspective of and appreciation for the place. At the end of May 2018, only the permanent exhibition was open, so the entry price was halved. Yet I spent about two hours reading all the panels, viewing the short films and browsing the good gift shop. Now I am more aware of the interesting history of Nelson and the West Kootenays, including First Nations tools and legends, mining and smelting, the railroad, fur trade, paddlewheelers and tugs on Kootenay Lake, floods, hydroelectricity, fishing and forestry, sports and the arts, Victorian architecture and a haven for pacifists. Who knew that Boris Karloff debuted in Nelson in 1911? (His name was William Henry Pratt.) A well-presented and thoroughly interesting museum.

It was cool but honestly...for the price it was kinda a bust to me. It had some cool stuff but it was a little small, if you wanna explore a tiny bit of Nelson's history then there's the place. It only took my family about 15 minutes then we left...????

Nice quiet visit. I enjoyed the tranquility of the current exhibits and the details at the permanent display. The information on the exhibits was very informative. I liked all the Native Abstractions, particularly the Robert Houle and Katia Kak'wa Kurtness paintings.

Small local history museum on the upper floor and a great gift shop and art exhibition spaces on the ground level. Unfortunately, the red ribbon they currently have up in the museum obscures some of the displays, which I didn't appreciate. However, I understand the idea behind this installation.

As a volunteer for 30 years I can say there is much that continues to delight me. Well displayed local history depicted in an interesting and sensitive manner. The galleries continue to host incredible shows and the gift shop has a wealth of fine local goods.

I felt there is a lot of value in your ticket cost. We really enjoyed the two galleries and wandering the museum. As a visitor we learned quite a bit about Nelson that we were not aware of. The videos were informative and the information displayed well. Thank you!

Lovely little museum/art gallery with lots of information about the city. A great little gift shop as well! And the best part is that teachers get free admission!

Not worth $8 to me. Maybe $2. The 2 galleries took less than 2 mins to see. Museum upstairs had some videos, which in total is ~30 mins long. I watched 5 mins of it and left. A bit disappointing cuz I do like arts
