Bathroom we're bad everything else was okay
Nice scenery, weird crack heads hang around sometimes, but other than that its great
This is a must see part of Nanaimo. A walk along the park worth the drive from Victoria. There are place to jump into the water as well. Lot of activities around.
Nice little park would be good for a picnic
Always a beautiful place
Great park on the harbour waterfront. Lots of green, walking paths and even a beach.
Reset your enjoyment scale, this park has something for everyone.
Beautiful day out today I enjoyed it down by the water
This is a special place that is truly unique in all of Canada. The park is beautiful and we'll maintained with walking trails along the ocean with peaceful and breathtaking views of the marina, and the islands protecting Nanaimo's beautiful harbour. This is a spot to wander down any day of the summer amd discover something fun and family friendly going on. From live music in the park, or to just relax for a picnic and watch the float planes landing and taking off. No visit to the island is complete without an afternoon in Maffeo Sutton Park ☺
A very popular park. The heart of the city for activities throughout the summer.
Great local down town park. It may not be Stanley Park but its ours and always a great place on a sunny day if you can make it. The new Nanaimo sign give another backdrop/ front drop for your family pictures.
Lovely park, great views and lots of interesting things to see and do
We stopped by to see the new totem. The information signs on the history of the area were enlightening.
Always a good walk especially in the sunshine
Such a great area to sit and drink and coffee and watch the seals that sometimes swim near the shore.
Clean and beautiful and ever evolving.
One of many gems in Nanaimo. Kids playground, swimming area, dog parades, people watching and even a crabbing pier. All of this, and more, winding along the shore of the most beautiful harbour on Vancouver Island. If you're lucky, you can even buy a slice of heaven in the premier condo that borders this park.
Really cute park!! I enjoyed taking photos with the big Nanaimo sign ????
Spectacular views!
The park is beautiful and wonderful
Beautiful in summer! Love taking the dog here to socialize! Thursday’s they usually have dancing in the promenade on the water front it’s quite romantic
Lots of food truck, large play park close to shops and ice cream and ferries to Newcastle island. Lots of shady people though
I love that we have such a unique beautiful waterfront park right downtown that caters to the artist, activist and nature lover alike any day of the year. It's a place where events include such variety of celebrations and activities from Canada Day to Peace Day to climate marches, music festivals and ziplines across the lagoon.
Great park on the waterfront, seals frolicking around the peer and even some Inukshuks greeting the water dwellers.
Wonderful views, nice pier walk, friendly faces! Often there is live music. Close to downtown. Public bathrooms.
Lots of outdoor adventures in this AWESOME FUN NEW PARK
A delightful park with beautiful views, good fishing spots, lovely nature, and plenty of events. A great place to take kids for a few hours. Between the micro-beach, the occasional vendors, and the huge play areas, surely there's fun to be had. Oh, and lots and lots of dogs. If you're into looking at dogs, this is a good place to be.
Would be better if parents kept tabs on there kids. My 2 year old daughter was pushed off a play structure while trying to walk.
Wonderful place for rest and recreation for the entire family!
Yummy food and beautiful sights to see!! What's not to love!!
Love coming here for event, the playground, food trucks, ice cream & sunset walks with my hubby!
This is truly a great park for all ages! There's a large children's playground that has a west coast/ferry theme. Gentle walkways along the waterfront and in the park make it accessible to strollers, wheelchairs and walkers. The large circular cove with sandy beach is perfect for small children to swim in with good visibility for parents. Flowers are everywhere along with statues. There is also a pier where people can fish from. In the summer there are outdoor movies, concerts and activities. The pay-by-the hour parking lot is adequate most of the time except for special events.
Was down here for the bathtub races, awesome time, lots of great people. Don't miss the races next year ????
Stop to play badminton with Danny and Marcus using the metal whales sculpture as the net great park for kids
Absolutly stunning place will defenetly visit again
Beautiful waterfront, amazing views and park. Homeless and criminal addicts starting to take over certain sections, but for the most part they stay away from waterfront areas.
Another great spots Vancouver has to offer! Great for all adges to enjoy the nature. There is parking available in payment.
Just a great park to chill, walk, and jog. Nice view and peaceful.
Nanaimo waterfront and boardwalk is a nice area to meander for a couple of hours. Had a nice atmosphere with families and people just enjoying the different surrounding spaces. Had a nice vibe.
Big playground, paved ocean side trails, a little lagoon, lots of art instalments, landscaped gardens, lawns, pavilions, washrooms, basketball court... A very busy park for walking, picnics etc with a friendly vibe.
Lovely strolling paths with a seaside view. A large children's play area for ages 3 up to about 12. There is a large pavilion for music to set up.
????Awesomeness! Nanaimo's Beautiful waterfront!❤????
Cool little park. Lots of kids having fun in the playground, also a mist sprayer to cool off. Foodwise, there's few food trucks on site. Busy parking lot and you get 3 hrs parking for free, nevertheless do not forget to register your vehicle in the parking meter.
Beautiful setting on the waterfront, parking (3 hours are free) close to the boutiques on the waterfront promenade and a reasonably active harbour.
Was a great time.!
Great park!
Amazing new playground with lots of fun equipment.
One of the more beautiful parks in Nanaimo. If you are from out of town, be sure to visit and take a walk along the waterfront. Many quaint shops and cafes are further down. There's options for coffee afficianados, frozen treats, souvenirs, gifts and much more. Lighthouse Bistro restaurant protrudes out into the ocean and has an outdoor patio to view the harbor. Great choice for seafood lovers but also has options for a more Western diet.
Great city park next to downtown Nanaimo with amazing views of the waterfront.
Nice scenic park along the harbour front in Nanaimo. Large playground for kids to play at.
Beautiful park and boardwalk. 3 hours of.free parking was a bonus!!
Awesome park with playground. Tons of space and equipment. Great views of the other islands and the bay.
This is a nice little area to walk around in. I especially love it at low tide when you can go explore the tide pools. They have a ton of sculptures that are changed out yearly. Plus a great playground for the kids! Overall a nice little area to get out for a stroll when in the downtown core.
Nice place fresh sea air great park place for kids.
Great for ocean front walk or run. Fun play park for the kids.
Great venue for numerous open air events. Nicely hard surfaced with some grass and numerous trees for shade in the summer. Public faculties very handy.
Nice walk. Scenic. But the homelessness is becoming more evident. But.... the scenery is beautiful
Quite neat modern designed waterfront park, with a big pond designed to have natural waterfalls when it's high tide. There's also a fun playground, a dock for fishing and crabbing.
I thought this park was called something else and I like to park but I can't go in there have you wondering why people are looking at me so strangely they might be thinking that I'm a nice old man that's trying to get to know people I'm not an old man anyway I'm still in my teens that's the only that's the only reason I go anywhere is to meet people is to try to become one with everybody I want to take martial arts in a couple of years well that's all I have to say about soccer park it is a nice park that's if that's the one I'm talking and they're talking about
Judr beautiful harbor walk in downtown nanaimo Dogs welcome
Beautiful views, lots of benches. Popular park. Advised to only go to this park during daylight hours for safety though.
Good place to visit. You must go to take a photo of The name of Nanaimo. Very beautiful park. And along the seaside, people are crabbing also.
Great park and small sandy beach area. Public bathrooms not very clean and smelly
Great park with beautiful views and public art
Awesome park, way above most parks standards. There are amazing structures and play equipment for the kids and the view is incredible as well. You can watch sea planes come and go and see a lot of starfish and sea life.
Really enjoyed this park, lots of trails to walk and cute little shops. It's right next to the water with a little swimming spot as well. Will definitely be spending a lot of time here this summer.
Nanaimo nice place to stay
I go here to have peace and quiet but since the the homeless have been moved it's not so quiet
One of the best municipal parks in the city of Nanaimo.
Very peaceful and beautiful place to spend the weekend with family or friends. You will fall in love the water view at the place.
Long walk on an easy path by the ocean. A few good stores on the downtown end. There is always something going on on the covered stage.
Amazing views, cool breeze
Great park with ample parking! As with any downtown area in Canada, there are a lot of homeless people. I would not leave anything valuable in the car. Otherwise fantastic central spot.
A great place to go for an hour or an afternoon. We often go as a family and there is enough to entertain us all for hours. Not too sure about the new Nanaimo sign, perhaps with time the benefits will be clearer.
Amazing and beautiful community hub with great views and open, welcoming space.
Awesome place for kids and family fun. The view is great.
Lovely park. Great spot to park (free for the first couple of hours) from which to walk the Marina areas.
Great park. A nice mix of history, a good view, and convenient location. A common tourist location but I love it as a local. Lots of space and walkways along with cool art installations and plenty of places nearby to buy food. They have a zip line around here if you want some thrill along with your pleasant walk. I would recommend this place to anyone visiting Nanaimo. Some of the history panels and art installations could do with some cleaning and/or updating.
Scenic park at the Nanaimo harbour, with a really cool playground
Another great lunch stop. Public washrooms nearby.
Fabulous spot for a sunrise.
The washroom was clean however there were so many rude homeless people
Wonderful waterfront space with spectacular shops, trails and great green space! Amazing art installations that change occassionaly and awesome playground space!
Nice public park with long walks, plenty of shade, extensive children's playground and close to downtown.
Great decent size park. Upgrade facility I believed. Nice little walk down the Harborview. Kids love it.
Always love it here The park is great there's a field to play in There's a beautiful walk around the ocean, Great little shops , Best I've cream in town down there. There's the boat ramps also. Great spot for seizing if u like salt water. Aldo crabbing on the crab dock There is even a seal that comes up to say hello
There are some cute little shops along the walkway, including a delightful candy and icecream shop that serves dairy free icecream options that taste just like real icecream....delicious! The park is beautiful with a large playground and gazebo. There are interesting art installations placed here and there and all four seasons see festivals and events being hosted here.
Great place for a walk and take in the scenery
After 20+ years away, it's amazing to be home again.
We go down here almost everyday to walk the sea wall and enjoy the scenery.
This Is quite a good Place for a picnic, You can let your kids play and Tons Of Places to walk!
Was what to expect of a park. Was ok. Nothing stood out to entice someone there.
One of Nanaimo's most popular outdoor areas for community gatherings and events. Great views of the inner harbor and the chain of islands beyond. Easily navigated asphalt/concrete paths to the north and south as well
Beautiful walkway. Favourite place to go walking. Love the view of The ocean and the shops
Maffeo Sutton park captures the spirit of Downtown Nanaimo perfectly. One can watch seaplanes come and go, visit the crab dock looking for Lucy the seal, and grab a coffee, ice cream, or snack from one of the many shops that line the waterfront. The park has a playground, large open field, and Lions Pavilion you can rent out for events. There's over 10 km of walking trails, if you include all the connecting pathways to the downtown core not 15 minutes away from the park. It's a wonderful place to spend a sunny afternoon.
Nicely laid out park with accessible and free parking (always important)
Large park with a very nice seawall, aces to Newcastle Island by ferry and a kids playground
Park was very nice and the cheapest extended parking I had found since on the island. The one part that keeps it from getting 5 stars is that due to the popularity it would be nice to have more parking locations as getting a stall can take time to find
A great place to walk and enjoy time with family, all while being at the waterfront
My favorite spot to walk the Nanaimo seawall, you can park here and walk the path that runs the waterfront of Stewart avenue or walk towards Downtown Nanaimo. Lots of cool waterfront shops and beautiful views.
It's beautiful. Great place for a walk any time of year
Home! Great place to do some people watching and just relax.
Thus is one of the nicest and prettiest parks in all of Nanaimo. Situated on the waterfront; a beautiful ocean view and sea wall to stroll along. A very pleasant stroll in nature to calm your senses. There is an awesome park for the children, Depending on the time of day it is usually in the sun. And there is an easy beach area that has no current influxes in the water....so there is no need to worry about your children getting caught in a wave or undertow. It is easy to spend half a day here.
Great place to go for an evening walk and an ice cream cone. Nice views of Newcastle Island. Good playground for the kids. Nice spot for outdoor events.
Beautiful view, park has washrooms, plenty of picnic areas and play equipment.
Brown had a good photo opportunity went on the wharf and around the Lagoon and enjoyed watching the people and looking at the artwork
I like the walking paths by the ocean and the beautiful park. The playground is built to be inclusive for physical handicaps which is fantastic. I will say though that it is a very busy park so it's important to keep a closer eye on your children.
I like it but a little too populated wish it was a picnic grave yard instead by the water front but this shot shows you wat you see in what I mean thank you
On the waterfront. Children's playground. Marina. Great for walking. Wheelchair friendly park.
It is a really nice area. However a lot of dog owners are not respectful of others dogs space. The bathrooms are also not very clean. Went in there today and there were beer cans, sharps, and a backpack tossed about.
Great park for the whole family!
Amazing place to spend the day in the sun, has a beach a playground walking paths, has an icecream shop, coffee shop and restaurant on water front
So enjoyable for young and old, a good place to walk and take in the beautiful surroundings or take a dip in the swimming area.
Always good. cool cars and sometimes babes.will be better-er when the construction is done.????
Great park, nice short sea wall walk.
Beautiful waterfront, huge park, creative art displays , & lots more to enjoy for everyone in the family :)
A lovely place for walking with numerous benches to enjoy the views of landing and take offs of seaplane. The kids play area is small but well maintained. Kids got excited when they spotted an otter swimming nearby ..
Fun fun fun! One of our favorite parks in Nanaimo. Here’s why: - huge playground for kids of all ages! ????????♀️ - nice walks by the water and bridge - wonderful views to seaplanes and birds and boats and new castle island which you can visit by the ferry there. - some talents play music or sing by the waterfront - easy walking distance to cafes, pubs, restaurants waterfront or nearby on commercial street. - cool statues and rich culture there - there’s a zip line but not sure if permanent, I doubt Beautiful in the day time or sunset Might see a couple of homeless people here or there but they never approach you. Plenty of parking spaces. Wheelchair friendly across the park
Nice, little quant park by the sea; good for a little scroll whenever it's sunny.
Excellent waterfront park. If you have kids the brand new playground is a must see! If you like crabbing throw a net off the dock and sit and relax watch the float planes come in. Beautiful spot!
Beautiful park and love the new installation
Good place
Very scenic place for a walk. Views across the water are stunning. Sculptures and points of interest dotted around the park. Some of the paths could use better salting or snow clearance as there were lots of treacherous black ice spots. Well worth a visit
Great to stop look around, public washroom's, sit relax, I like to watch float planes, taking off or landing.
Maffeo Sutton Park is one of the nicest city parks in Nanaimo, BC with wonderful waterfront vistas, plenty of parking, which does fill up pretty fast, many seasonal events and things to do and see. I love doing my photography at this park. There are so many opportunities there for landscape, city skyline, people watching and macro photography. It has a nice area for younger children to play and swim. Parking is free for three hours. Make sure you print a parking meter ticket.
Amazing and wonderful place to talk a walk with family. The flower and fauna is varied and beautiful. The court is in good condition and playable. Food trucks are available in select days for easy access of food and drinks. Parking is huge and easilly accessible. The washrooms are decent for a public use washroom. Its also near the port to take a view of the numerous amount of ships and vessels. In particular times of the day can have a great view of the ferry going to port. Security has deopped down in recent years due to the homelessness problem meaning keepl clear when nearing nigh hours.
This is an awesome place for a walk on the seawall. Lots of places for kids to swim and play in the park.
Free 3 hour parking while you wander the park. There is a walking path along the ocean to the harbour area where the boats are. There are a few cafes and a fish boat that way as well. There is also a water spray area to cool off in. There is a little beach as well to enjoy and play in the water.
Verry nice place but there was no vacancies but as soon as i can i'm going back. The view is extreme and it's like it wants you to stay. And i will get it ,did i say the staff were awesome and helpul .just that makes me want to go back
Great place to visit with kids, especially now with the newly upgraded play ground it's a dream for the kiddos. One complaint would be how crowded it can be so time your visits well.
They've removed the iconic "picture frame" in the park! This is very sad as it was a local attraction and everyone loved it.
Grassy and sandy park with lots of places to sit, in the sun and in the shade. Bathroom and water fountain available.
Wonderful city park that mixes nature, art and fun into one spot great for the whole family. The park has ample parking, washroom facilities, group shelter, picnic area, playground, benches, beach, pathways and more. I really like the murals on the washroom building and the metal orca sculpture. The walk along the shoreline and the bridge connecting to the harbourfront pathway is also nice. The beach lagoon section is a nice spot to relax in summer as well. Worth checking out and visiting if you are spending an afternoon in downtown Nanaimo. Don't forget to check out White Sails Brewing which is right across the street from the parking lot.
Beautiful park and scenery. My dogs and I love it there.
We arrived at a somewhat unpleasant gap just before dinner and the cook staff were late delaying us being able to order dinner. So we enjoyed some slow drinks and the pleasent view overlooking the marina where we were moored. The food was quite good but nothing exceptional. Except for the wait, overall it was a good experience.
This is one of the most beautiful spots in Nanaimo! Great to visit in the evening for a walk. And a huge play area for kids. You can watch planes take off during the day. You can catvh crab or take a harbour ferry to the Dingy Dock Pub for lunch or dinner.
This place is always a great place to walk, enjoy the fresh air, wach the buz of activity...
Open space. Happy community. Public art installations. Festivals and events. Swimming spot. Cute dogs everywhere!
One of the most beautiful parks I have ever been to. A wonderful walk - a stunning view. God's hundreds of languages can not cover the words to describe this place. So I shall simply settle for this. "Perfect for the soul, and a wonderful reminder of the beautiful world we live in." Maffeo Sutton Park is one of a kind.
Mitch and i like to walk along the waterfront rain or shine its beautiful. Always meet new people along the way .
The new upgraded park is phenomenal and amuses and entertains. There's festivals to look forward to, lots of greenspace otherwise. Art galore, many sculptures and heritage pieces. Basketball court. Pokemon gyms and stops a pleanty. Fantastic view of the Salish sea. Ferry to Newcastle/Saysutshun. Paths galore, a small collection of food and tourism shopnearby on the water front. Big covered structure for speaking, bands, or get togethers. Bathrooms at the entrance are mostly taken care of but sometimes not so much. Seasonal water fountains to drink from. Also, a beach area and access to the water.
Park is awesome. Kids have lots to play with and ice cream.
I love this park, the board walk has beautiful views, everyone always seems happy and positive. My dog loves the attention, I love this city, they just upgraded the family playground, and it's the best one I ever seen. Money well spent, great job Nanaimo!! Happy Saturday:)
Great park right on the water to visit and have a picnic lunch or have the kids play in the huge modern play area. Great views of the Harbour. Misting area for hot days and a large covered stage area for get togethers or an intimate concert setting. Pay parking.
Nice big park along the water. Great big playground for kids. I have been approached by sketchy men on more than one occasion though so I don't like to go alone.
Came from the valley to go to new castle but the ferry was delayed due to a wedding. So took some of the time we had to check out the park. We really enjoyed it. Cool art, beautiful scenery. Lots for the kids and a zip line. We will visit again. Just a really relaxing pretty walk.
I think this is one of the most beautiful places to visit when you get a chance I recommend that you see it for yourself. ..
An exciting park to visit, a playground for the kids, a warf to fish off of, a shallow swimming area , picnic tables, beautiful views of Newcastle & Protection and Gabriola Islands, the marina within walking distance and a yummy chip wagon most days. LOVE it there!
I've always loved this park. It's a great place to walk around during all seasons. Small beach for summertime splashing and a bandshell that has musicians several times a year.
Great walk with some stunning views
Beautiful water front park to go for a run. The sunrise is a special treat and you can watch the float planes taking off.
Lots for the kids to play on. They had a blast. Love the new squish soft ground cover the put down and help protect kids when they fall.
Great waterfront walk with a handful of cute shops and a few restaurants.
Family park close to downtown. The appeal is the lack of elevation and, logically then, the seaside location.
Love this waterfront. I have spent alot of my time here and it is awesome from the silly boat races to bathtub weekend and fireworks for the whole city to see its absoultely beautiful. There is a beautiful walkway that takes you to restaurants and the sea plane to downtown Vancouver or ice cream to try and beat the heat. The playground is top notch for the children with a bit of everything for all ages to play on. The basketball court is probably my favorite the family and i love to go play a friendly game of 21 on a nice day. Ornif you want to relax tske the walk on boat to Newcastle Island for a quiet pinic or over to the Dingy Dock Pub for a great bite to eat and live music to enjoy. Its also conviently located downtown so shopping is also merely step offf the walkway with hotels and a lively nighttime bar scene. Altogether this is a cant miss if you are coming to Nanaimo to visit our city. We are so lucky to have this waterfront at our disposal. Its defintely a Nanaimo gem.
Its a beautiful walk for families to enjoy the views of the ocean and the mountains
Lovely city Center park. Flat walking, great play area and the city organizes many Summer Concerts. Accessable to all.
The playground and walk around the harbour are nice. We enjoyed the free music show in the evening.
Great place for a walk along the sea, lots of playgrounds for the kids, and picnic tables for lunch in the park. The tide pools beneath the walking bridge are teeming with life, and great for the kids to explore.
Love the park, often we find events or music in the park. Just attended the Love My City last weekend. Had a wonderful time...
Fun place for the little ones.
Cool harbour front park with lots to do and 3 hours free parking.
Beautiful area to walk. There is an awesome play park for kids, its also built to accommodate wheelchair and disabled children. Check out the cool frank Ney statue before you head down to the long warf where you can observe people crabbing. If you continue back down towards the seaplanes many little shops and restaurants are worth checking out. The ice cream is great ! Other stuff to do includes An undercover gazebo for music or gatherings, basketball courts, areas to slack line or set up a hammock, picnic areas, a beach with sand and bathrooms.
Lovely flat walk with my dad who had knee surgery recently. Beautiful view.
Beautiful place for a walk, to let the children play, or to relax by the ocean
Great tunes and venue to have Summertime Blues Festival
Great park on the waterfront. Access point to Newcastle Island and Fisherman's pier. Great family location
Really nice and clean park with water fun and nice children playground
Bathrooms were stinky along with a couple other inconveniences I'd rather not post about. other than that it was beautiful.
Nice park, lots to do.. Washrooms are open 6am -9pm and if you know where to look there are a lot of places to plug in your phone or computer. (hint)(the green dot on the metal grate's which surround the trees hide a secret)
Had so much fun fishing crabs
Nice big park, trees, grass, tables & benches, huge playground. Cons: the occasional smell of seaplane exhaust, and the bathrooms could be cleaner. The city puts on great events here.
My favourite place to enjoy the dock and watch the seaplanes come and go.
My client loves coming here, it's just kind of sad that the swings are so low. Its hard to get any height for a child that loves to go high!! But in saying that, I love that it is now a diverse abilities park!! Well done City of Nanaimo <3
Great park to visit with kids and dogs. Lovely views of little islands and cityscapes.
This is the "big events" park. Lots of walking paths. A fun, large, modern playground. Playground highlight is a zipline.
Its beautiful yes but why not a bathroom upgrade?
Beautiful beach ???? in Nanaimo, love the nature ???? and trees. Magical views. Great place for family and picnics! ????
Very clean, at least while I was there. Grass was well kept, playground looked fun and safe. There was parking, and a pay machine, but which spaces needed to be paid for wasn't exactly clear.
A nice day for a walkabout with dogs. Not too busy, not too hot and a slight breeze.
Our beautiful waterfront park a busking I will ho
Looking really good all new park which is awesome I enjoyed it even had a go on the zip line
Place is still beautiful. But rule keep chamging everytime i come. Guards are rude and arrogant, dont even both to check your parking ticket before they harrasse you about being parked to long. Told us to leave leave 14hrs before our paid parking was over just because ...what was once shared path is now only for walking...id understant why they dont want trickdeck style skate boarding but not allowing a bike or rollerskating or crussin boards..l dont like how the police and guards are allowed to use what ever mode they chose but a paying client connot? Police ride there bikes through the park side by side. Just all and all no longer feel welcomed here.
Gorgeous harbour walk. Little shops and treats along the way. Can be busy but overall a great way to spend a sunny day.
First off there is a huge parking lot where the first 3 hours are free ($7 × 12 hours. $9 × 24) Then you have the Harbourfront Walkway to the left or to the right. So much to see! Or take a small ferry over to Newcastle Island for a hike or picnic or camping. Or another small ferry over to Protection Island to the restaurant/ pup (haven't done that yet). Artwork, swimming, crab fishing off a dock, all sorts of eateries and ice cream and coffee. Town center is right there! This place is a kind of earthly paradise. Go there. You'll love it. ????
Loving the sculptures and new play ground for the kids.
City of Nanaimo wins again! Removed the aging, "old school" park and replaced it with awesome new gear. Kids LOVE it!
Kids had a blast had a nice walk and a visit . Did not see much social distancing though . And the kids used to love the old wooden structures , sad to see its gone
????Great one-day gateway Vancouver. Happy BC Day ????????
Nice open park song the waterside with views of New Castle island.
I love this park. Whenever I mosey around the water front, Maffeo Sutton park is where I inevitably begin. Additionally, the statue of Black Frank is a great meeting point! plenty of parking, although it gets tough to find a spot during the summer season, and exciting events are happening in the park very often.
Beautiful all year.
One of the most beautiful playgrounds for children that I have seen.
Really nice park. Good little short stroll and really good ice cream at the end.
Needs foodtrucks there 7 days a week
It was a lovely park. A nice playground for the kids, and a nice place to sit and have lunch. Plus the view was nice. Worth a stop.
Blessed to have this park! There every day!
Always a good place to take your family. There are usually street performers, playing live music. I great walk around the sea wall too. I highly recommend this park!
It was great, aside from the LARPing rave that was obnoxiously over powering the sound of the beautiful ocean.
Never seems too busy with parking available. Good park to stroll.
Grew up hanging out at this park..one of my favorite places, so many good memories over the years.
Very nice playground for the little kids.
Great area to walk. Little shops are great. Lit well at night.
Great playground with a lot of new additions. Still some construction happening but a lot of new devices and toys that are accessible to all sorts of kids.
It's allways having things happeens. And I climbed this tree
The walkway follows along the ocean, with views of Newcastle Island, Protection Island, Galliano Island, & the Harbour all along. There's a well equipped playground area, that will keep all kids happy for hours; & the 1st 2hrs of parking, is free! There are some food wagons, & also a small 'flea market' of local vendors on Fridays. This Park is where The Blues Festival takes place, @ the tail end of Aug. Pay to get in - or sit outside the fence & listen, while watching the boats go by.
Great views, clean park, just don't go alone
Weird traffic of cars at night... Very dodgy place after sundown
Beautiful and well maintained park! Brings such a happy glow to all the park enjoyers I think. Will return in the future.
Downtown park connected by trail to commercial downtown. Sunny days a great location. Many Nanaimo events start and finish here.
Nice to bring the kids, or just sit and relax ???? can you locate the 2 starfish in the pictures? ????
Very nice spot for a walk or a picnic. Pretty clean, washrooms open during the day.
Way too many people not giving enough space. There was also a bunch of anti-maskers there with signs on their vehicles. I'd avoid this space and find another.
Absolutely beautiful all year round!
Very nice view of the sunset. I go for a stroll along the water here often and there are some cool shops that sell ice cream and such. Besides the area it's located in with sketchy people hanging around I enjoy coming down here.
Love the park, but if you drive a big truck it’s very difficult to find a parking spot.
Clean and beautifully lit up at night. Enjoyed some local art while taking a romantic moonlit stroll along the water .
Needs a better bathroom, but we love it here!!! Long or short walks, swimming in the summer, playground, and lots of people watching. The parking is fairly good, and it's a great place to watch the sun set or rise.
There's nothing like a refreshing walk along the waterside of this marina/dock
Excellent music. A variety of different kiosks with different things being sold. Summertime Blues Festival goes all weekend.
Great views with waterfront walkway as well as an awesome kid's playground. There are Music in the Park through the summer months as well as other celebrations and events!
Beautiful park ... awesome playground ..great place to walk and have a coffee or ice cream ????
Great place to visit with family.
The new playground is wonderful. The walk is always a stunning sight.
Still one of the best places in Nanaimo to take in the beauty of the place and the friendliness of the town.
Awesome park. Nice voew on Marina. There's food trucks. A public washroom. Kids playgrpund and picnic tables.
Also a nice walk, busy but cool local art
Good park , always busy, but large enough to not feel congested. Here you can find the bright side of Nanaimo.
Nice park for Pokémon go players. And mostly very nice locals I the day time
Great place for a walk. There’s free parking. The washroom is clean. The view is beautiful.
I adore this park!!! Wonderful flat place to walk!! Lots to see, from seals and otters, to magnificent sea birds, sea planes take off and land, the Gabriela ferry, the Newcastle ferry, and the Dinghy Dock ferry are all wonderful to watch coming and going!! Easy to jump on and off!! There are various ships and boats in the harbour including a plethora of sailing craft!! Gorgeous in a clear sunny day or any day!! Lots of food to choose from, including 2 floating restaurants!!! The aroma of Penny's Palapa, and Trollers fish and chips fill the air on part of the walk!! There's 2 icecream shops to choose from, a coffee Shoppe and a lovely cafe where you can dine in or outside on the boardwalk!!! There's also a Bistro for some fine seafood and a great outside dining experience, with a pub above for a quick drink after your brilliant walk!! A playground for the kids!!! This is also the place to go for all sorts of festivals, demonstrations, parades and all sorts of events, from sailboat races, to longboard and dragon boats and even concerts!! Beautiful!!
A beautiful evening listening to The Nanaimo Concert Band.
I always really enjoy being here. The walkway is great! Really well maintained and lots of space. There is also a big playground, lots of beautiful views and in the summer it's a place that is bursting with activity!
It's a good park love the gazebo
The children loved their first experience at this newly built park. So many new and different rides like ziplines, merry go round, swing for two, wavy boat and so many more! Plus amazing views and a great place for walk and ice cream ????
Beautiful hot day with a breeze coming off the water enjoyed our visit..
A great park for young and old. Walking paths & vistas, play areas & food truck (summer), concerts, festivals, & fireworks.
You gotta check out the whole seawall! Don't forget to find the frozen-banana-man...
Love walking through this park, lit up nicely for walks at night as well.
This park is the best park I have ever seen!! Stupendous indeed!! We enjoyed our three days visit !
Even with the scorching heat last week, this park was blissfully serene. The calmness of water made it a perfect place for us to volunteer for litter pickup. Community project done right!
Nice park along the shore
I've been visiting this park for 25 years. It's relaxing and beautiful.
A very nice public park that came to be after many opposed the construction of a marina. Bravo!
Nanaimo downtown park. Local events year round. A great community gathering spot right on the ocean in view of our World famous Harbour.
Great for walks and to take the children to play
Great park with beautiful ocean views, definitely recommend.
Always nice stroll along the sea front and through to the harbour area. Ever changing.
Beautiful new FUN upgraded playground. My sons fave place ever (6 yes old)
Absolutely stunning location for a walk or run along the waters. There is also a playground and a covered area where people were doing ballroom dancing! The views here are relaxing!
Great place for walks and taking kids to the park. Also have some lovely shops on the promenade
Fun place for all the family. Great surroundings for all to enjoy
Great park. It’s really pretty. Good place to just chill and walk around.
While visiting from Alberta, we came here to catch the ferry over to Newcastle island, then enjoy the playground afterward. I love the variety of art installations around the park. They add some interest to the great landscaping, complemented by lots of large trees and colorful flowers. There are many benches and picnic tables, public washrooms, and angle parking. The playground is old but huge. Many different structures provide lots of space to play, and there's even a wooden accessible section with two special swings for disabled users. The area is gravel surfaced. One drawback is that the bathrooms are not within sight so I would not be comfortable sending off even older kids alone.
Awesome waterfront walkway, great big play ground. Lots of events, occasionally a food truck.
Close to the harbor with great view and playground
I like to go here to clear my head and what the leaves dance its a beautiful place for families to get together and have a Pickwick or just to reunite
Great spot for those Pokemon Go peole and has a great park. Cant go wrong with the crab fishing either!
Well manicured clean large waterfront area surrounding the newly built park . Park is great for all ages. The park area has seating area around the park for parents or caregivers to sit . The park is semi fenced in. With a a sort of rock wall on one side giving it a more private area away from the rest of the park. There are shops and ice cream along with food spots near by along the sea wall. There are washrooms near by the park. It is also mostly well lit at the night but is known for unwanted activity sometimes I mean I have never had a problem there. I recommend this park for family outings . Overall a great place for a family to enjoy!
Nice view with surprisingly clean bathrooms. Lagoon is cool as well
This park has amazing views. There is a lovely asphalt path weaving through and around the park. Trees and water a beautiful combo. There is also a play ground and a small beach.
Beautiful spot to take the kids and enjoy the sights and sounds of the Nanaimo harbour. Summer weekends always seem to have things going on as well.
Great city park in the heart of Nanaimo with seaside walking paths, excellent kids adventure park, parking and good for families
Close to town, very well kept, too many substance abusers during the night.
Beautiful playground for kids of all ages and abilities. My toddler loved the tower, carousel and couldn't stop giggling on the seated zipline. This playground has lots of different amenities for kids with disabilities as well
I love the community events here, and such a lovely place to go for a nice walk along the water :)
This is the best kids park ever..my granddaughter loves it..
I love this park, it has the POTENTIAL to be an incredible place for the city of Nanaimo. The park is attached to a wonderful causeway that is both scenic and has many interesting features nearby. The park is nicely maintained and paved paths make it a nice change from norm in Nanaimo. The overall park looks great! It has a really cute marina and a decent pub. Unfortunately, the park lacks in most other areas – outdated concerts (they are almost always playing rock or the blues from the 70’s). No permanent market to speak of - The park should have an open day / night market allowing a variety of vendors to have a central area to do business in. Silly & dated liquor laws that force events to put up fences lined with outhouses to keep the 20 – 30 people that actually show up in one little eyesore of an area. Public bag searches from the local police. No decked coffee shops or dining areas other than the one stuck beside the vehicle parkade and under the staircase on the far end. Poorly planned events that are often overpriced and over regulated by the city. Tent city -- a big yes -- Canada Day fireworks? Nope.
Nice park for the kids... Nice equipment. Nice to see the hard working food trucks on a cold day. And I believe parking is free for the first three hours.
Just wish there was a smoking area!
A very walkable park with many interesting spots. Even on a busy Canada Day there was space to social distance and maintain 2m from others. Clean and well maintained. Has washrooms and plenty of benches.
Pretty busy playground doesn't have much shade
Cool interesting park. Nice sculptures
Great off leash dog beach.
Such an easy place to like. Art instalments, ocean, kids park flowers, walking paths. A great spot to visit.
The layout is wonderful, the sculptures are impressive and the playground is huge. I enjoy taking my family for picnics here. It's also a great spot for outdoor concerts.
Beautiful trails around this stunning island with so much history.
Absolutely the most beautiful part of Nanaimo. It makes me proud to be a citizen of this wonderful city. They have done a wonderful job renovating and maintaining it.
Quite a nice park that's pretty expensive with bits of interactive artwork here and there. Some that changes seasonally. Gets replaced, that is. The water views are great! It connects up to the harbor very nicely via a pretty walk. You have people on foot, bikes, etc. Some local, some tourists. All kinds of people. Some heading to the islands nearby, others coming back. At night it's very well lit. It might appear sketchy but is in reality on the safer side. Lots of lights and usually not totally empty. Parking lot is also free on the weekends! There's a little local secret for those looking to take the boats to an island for more than a few hours.
Lots of hobos need to fix that but it is good place
Nice and clean. There wasn't anything going on there the day I went and not a lot of people. That's good, I guess, if you don't like people. :-) personally, I landed at this place because of the sign. I wanted to eat a nanaimo bar in nanaimo and the proof was being in front of a nanaimo sign.
Nice place with sea view
Lively place. Lots of people. Kids running about screaming. Yep, play park.
This is a great place for a walk! It's paved and ideal for families, dogs (on lease) I absolutely love this spot, amazing views of new castle channel, flat and easy to explore. Also a new playground!
Nice place to hang out. Go for a walk. Great place for kids.
Really cute park, close to bathrooms.
Amazing beautiful park to go for walks on. There's free public WiFi, many little shops, restaurants, a beach, playgrounds, and they offer free poop bags to pick up after dogs. There's also alot of events in the summer and public washrooms ???? I love this park
Great place to go things to see and do all the time. Great for kids also
Lovely area for a stroll or a reading session, enjoyed watching the seagulls and the abundance of starfish all around the shoreline.
Beautiful place for a family. Lovely scenery and clean. Huge playground for kids, or you can watch the sea planes, go grab netting, swim in a safe sea pool area, walk along the waterfront and stop for ice cream or coffee.
What's a beautiful place read along the ocean beautiful trees lot of parking nice walkways letter walkways that's awesome good place to take your family the little one do you have a camper Parks art camp here's some pictures beautiful Sandy Beach at the North End lovely place❤❤❤❤????????????????????????????????????
Beautiful view of the Nanaimo Waterfront at the park and an awesome way to get a brisk walk done.
Wonderful from morning to evening, great view and always events during the summer.
Gorgeous views of the harbour city. Relaxing walking paths along the water.
Great place to spend a summer day or afternoon. Very family friendly!
A lovely little boardwalk where you can walk along the see the dock and nearby Islands, get going on Harbour Air, enjoy the local shops, enjoy some love music, or wander through the park which features art installations on occasion. The ice cream vendors are my personal favourite, and the dock looks particularly spectacular when the ride is in and the interior pool is filled up. I try to make a trip here each time I come to Nanaimo.
Love this park! So beautiful to walk around by the ocean. We danced in the large gazebo. Great location and easy to get to and park. Been here many times..
Great place to walk around. A few nice places to eat as well.
Its a very cozy waterfront park with some nice shops and street performers.
Good Park Nice Sea And LOUD Seaplanes But Nice Trees And Like This Good Washrooms And Best Mist Ever And I Like That!!
Wonderful walkway and park. Very friendly and safe. Kept very tidy. Thx
Fantastic place. Had a dip in the cool water on a hot sunny afternoon. Best place to unwind. Has a man made beach and harbour walk, which is really beautiful park on one side and seaplanes and sea taxis on the other side. Good to relax or do activities.
Good downtown park. Swy-a-lana lagoon has seen better days. Nice walking areas, just wish it were better connected to rest of waterfront areas throughout the city
Great place for family. Lots to explore. Nice playground area.
Best safe playground ever for kids
Very nice place for everyone
Great place to be on a warm, sunny day. Has food trucks on certain days, and yesterday there were water misters spraying near the bathrooms. Always a nice walk along the waterfront.
One of our favourite places to go for a walk in Nanaimo. Nice shops a short walk away, great playground, great place to people watch too.
Easy Access, Family Friendly, Popular with Locals and Tourists. Handicapped accessible parking, large level sidewalks, handicapped accessible Public Restroom. Great for picnics, playtime, walks and relaxing. Benches and tables are available throughout the park. No BBQ facilities. Located in downtown Nanaimo, accessible by car, foot and bus. The Seawall Walkway that begins at the Nanaimo Harbour, wraps around the Seaside of Maffeo Sutton Park and continues to the North, heading toward the Nanaimo Yacht Club. (Parallel to Stewart Street). Beautiful views of Newcastle Island and Park, ferries to the park are seasonal and can be accessed from the dock at Maffeo Sutton. Protection Island can also be seen from Maffeo Sutton.( Year-round ferry service to Protection Island is available from the Nanaimo Harbour) Maffeo Sutton features a Bandstand, fenced Children's Playground, a separate protected Sand Beach for Children and Families (Swy-A-Lana Lagoon and Fishing Pier) access to a Pier for fishing and crabbing and has designated Food Truck area. This Beautiful seaside location hosts many Community Activities, from Free Live Music during the summer months, Silly Boat Races, Free Movie nights (bring your blanket and popcorn!) Fireworks Displays, Arts and Crafts Festivals, Dance and Tai Chi exhibits and many other activities year-round. Check the Nanaimo Website for the calendar of events. Handicapped Parking is available, limited car lot, but more pay parking is available at the Howard Johnson Inn, (located on the other side of the Comox Road Bridge,) it can be conveniently accessed by the Seawall Walkway, which connects to the parking lot and allows you to walk underneath the bridge. (No worries about crossing the busy roads) The local City Bus has a Bus Stop near the entrance to the park. I recommend this location to Everyone!
Always go for walks, nice park
Beautiful park. It is close to the Harbour. A lovely playground is situated in the area.
Amazing park for resto and catch crabs.
Kids really enjoy the park. Very nice in the summer.
Nice park to bring the kids, plenty of room for picnics and group lawn activities, clean public washrooms, great views, plenty of selections for restaurants and sweets shops just down the shore a bit.
Beautiful place to relax with the family, get some ice cream, catch some sun on the sandy beach, catch a boat ride to Newcastle island for a picnic, relax oceanside and watch over kids as they play on the park. I also love the walkway which includes a bike lane and a walk lane! There's dining and shopping as well. Lots of parking and basketball courts. I've used this park for studying, family gatherings, relaxing on a stressful day, crab trapping, boating, playing ball, watching fireworks, dates, entertaining kiddos, flying the kite, excersizing etc...
Beautiful views, very clean and lots of activities for everyone. Parking is abundant, and free for stays less than 3 hours. Food trucks frequent this spot, and there seems to be events here almost every weekend!
Great place for the whole family. Playground, swimming lagoon, fisherman's pier, huge park along the Seawall overlooking Nanaimo Harbour in the Heart of Vancouver Island Canada.
Park had tons of great paths along the water, a great play ground and some vendors and the boardwalk. Bath tub races this weekend, the festival was really fun for the family. Make sure to check out the bounce houses if you have kids.
Great walk along the harbour. Nice play areas for children. Frequent event spot.
Amazing park.
Nice place to go for long walks and kids enjoy their play area.
Great place to wander around on the waterfront. Fun play area for kids
Great place for a walk on the boardwalk by the Ocean. Great playground and a couple of places nearby for coffee or icecream.
Love this place. Great place to go for walks
Nice open park, lots to do, bathrooms, food trucks, nice for a stroll or sit down
Pleasant waterfront promenade. Not too busy on a great day. Nice walk, bathroom looked sketchy but was clean and had soap and hot water, always a plus!
beautiful place to visit!
Playground area. Walking trails. Great views. Public washrooms. Questionable folk at times in the area tho.
Beautiful view on the sea
The best park in Nanaimo. Lots to see and do. Big playground for children, a bandstand for outdoor plays and concerts, local artwork placed around the area, duck fishing, a small Beach area, a long boardwalk with shops, public bathrooms, and panty more.
Excellent playground for the kids, waterfront views, seawall path & nearby to waterfront shops, old town. Nice place to hang out waiting for New Castle Island or Gabriola ferries. Easy route to car ferries.
Now here is the Best Park in Nanaimo. If you are traveling thru, u can stay 24hrs for $9.00. Park staff are always around, parking enforcement is around so it is a safe place. The sea wall is such a great walk. The Harbour is great. Awesome place for locals and tourists. Well Done Nanaimo for such a beautiful space.
Quite a lovely place!
It's a park, need I say more... beautiful... shoreline... wildlife... tranquility
Beautiful park for a nice walk by the water. Ice cream, coffee, and other treats close by.
Beautiful place
Great views & nice pathway/ seawall that runs along the water & through the harbour. Lovely during the day or evening.
Nice park. I liked it.
Great city of Nanaimo oceanside park! Live music with @davehartmusic was a bonus !
Great walking, playground, crabbing, ocean breeze, small area to swim, nanaimo heart and soul.
Beautiful park! Places to play for little ones, food trucks, and loads of pokemon go things.
It's a nice park right downtown Nanaimo. Has a basketball court , a nice boardwalk along the ocean and lots of parking.
This is an incredible place to experience the ocean and beauty of Nanaimo. Well maintained and it even has WiFi.
It's a great park, for playing on, both young and old ????.
Klean & Kool Hope the cotton candy truck is there for ya'll!
Beautiful park at Nanaimo Downtown waterfront. Very relaxing to walk, jog, scroll and simply chill-out. It has a nice view of downtown buildings, NewCastle and protection islands. Can also catch small ferry/boat to these islands from here for $5 as 2 way fair. Free and pay parking is available. Washrooms with drinking water fountain exists. Small river joins sea by this park. Children play park with small water park is a nice perk for parents to enjoy. It has walk way connection along the waterfront from Chinese memorial garden park area Vancouver island military museum area. At summer food truck may be present with other art & craft stalls. There is an international flags corner makes you feel comfortable if you are a non Canadian. Must visit when you are in Nanaimo
One of the best place for kids outdoor activities.
Nice walk
One of the best places to walk in Nanaimo! Walk the waterfront, always parking available and ice cream and tea shops at the very end of the walk!
I love this park I make it a daily stop in. Day or even night, it's a beautiful place.
Great place for celebration
Another amazing park in Nanaimo. Very lucky to live here Lots of things to do. Ferry to other islands etc .
It was nice but busy and overcrowded
Great seaside Park!!!
Nice park with a very huge playground. Nanaimo's signature park overlooking world famous harbour. The park is a central point along the Harbour Front Walkway. Likely the largest playground on the island based on equipment installed there.
Beautiful spot in the heart of downtown Nanaimo. Especially splendid views at night and great for a nice walk to the Port Theater.
Beautiful place! Awesome playground for kids! Great for walks.
Usually awesome. Not as good this time. Maybe an off day.
A great location to get out and explore the waterfront and off the beaten track. Just be patient and careful of pedestrians who seem to wander looking a their cellphones.
One of the best spots Nanaimo has to offer for a scenic wander. Watch the float planes, hop of a little boat to Newcastle or Protection Island, or just stroll the shops.
Lots of amenities but it needs some TLC, everything in the kids park is getting pretty run down.
We go here all the time. So many local events and activities going on around here. It is certainly a hot spot! A lot of places are walk-able from here as well, being near the downtown core. Beautiful views, too! Would never ever tire from visiting this lovely spot :)
A local hub, especially during the summer always seems to have something going on, be it a concert, some kind of market, movie nights on an inflatable screen, a pickup game of basketball, or some other community event. The passenger ferry for nearby Newcastle island leaves from here, there is a small sandy beach here for swimming, there is a long dock for crabbing, and a busy playground. All in all, this park is a popular destination for locals and tourists alike.
Beautiful park. Great place to go for a walk
Nice park for a walk running or for kids
This park is the chosen place for nanaimoites to meet up, walk dogs, picnic and such. It is the central point of the waterfront where people mingle and meet, spend leisure time as well as being entire family to enjoy the scenery. It has artwork from local artists, a pavilion for live performance and lots of open space to play for children..as well as a playground for the little ones.
A great place to visit in the Summer Time. Lots to things to keep kids entertained and a great place to walk for adults.
I was only there for a short time, though I found it to be a pretty clean park. The kids playground was actually really well laid out. You can be a single adult watching several kids at the same time.
Beautiful walk with my dog! Not so crowded, the tourist are gone!!❤️
such a nice park, big yet kept clean. Great place to bond with family and friends. You can go swim, fish and catch crabs.
Had an amazing pride here, they are dog friendly but on leach, there is a play ground, and public bathrooms
Fun
Beautiful waterfront park. A pleasure to walk along any time of year.
Delightful beautiful place; with a zip line!
It was great to get outside after COVID. Everyone was being respectful. It was a little overcast, then some light rain, and then the sun. Nice to be out in the weather.
This is one of the best parks in the area. There's a great kid's playground. Probably the most advanced in safety and fun for the kids.
Lots going on here, something for everyone no matter your age. The scenery here is also beautiful.
Beautiful place to take a walk. Lots of activities.
Lovely new park my kids enjoyed it
Beautiful. Nice long walk if you do the whole sea wall. Good coffee and ice cream shops along the way
Beautiful place to get away. Great for the kids and lots to do. Two weeks isn't long enough to explore everything
It is quintessential nanaimo.
Awesome new equipment. Lots to play on for all ages.
Beautiful spot to walk your dog or just sit outside and enjoy the water & sunshine.
Great park. Stay away from the bathrooms, they are full of junkies
Nice park,,great place for a walk
Great Park especially the duck pond
It was great , ran I to the "Peoples 0party if canada" on their campaign trail. Great ideas and attitudes, makes me want to get out and vote . They seem to know what's really going on , and are for the people, not big buisiness
Beautiful park along the seaside, plus there's a fun kids play park with a zipline, swings and climbing gym. All has rubber pavement around it.
My partner and I read great reviews of this spot and it looked and felt lovely during the day. We paid for an overnight park and found a lovely park in the afternoon and it all looked and felt beautiful. At about 8:30 at night we went to walk to Tim Hortons just up the road from here and once we returned to our car, we noticed a group of men smoking bongs directly behind our van then we went to use the toilet block that is located in the park and we noticed groups of people everywhere then the women’s toilet was hot from a lady who was clearly drugged up standing at the heater to keep warm for the night. All her belongings were hung up everywhere in the bathroom and when I went to wash my hands only one basin was available due to all her belongings scattered everywhere and she had a box of needles sitting right alongside the basin I was using. Once we returned to our van we noticed a lot of cars pulling up then shortly after they would leave. We also had one car pull up just in front of us and a group sat in the car while a man got out with a drink and was strangely walking around near by. After this we had done some research online about the area and realised homeless rates and drug use is a huge issue and that the park where we were is one of the popular hang out spots for the local homeless and drug users. There was also multiple reviews of needles being found throughout the park. A shame that the night time is a completely different feel and place to what it is at day as during the day, it is a lovely place to stop by for a walk. We have always relied on reviews of places we go to but we have now learnt to be more aware of reviews and to look more into the area before. Sorry to disappoint you all on this location!!
Good place to hang out. Great playground for the kids. Enjoy looking crab catching on the pier
Great space for distancing. Perfect spot to park and walk either direction along the waterfront.
It was a great walk. Threw Maffei Sutton Park. Lots of people walking their pets and weather is great..
Pretty, love the culture
It's a beautiful well kept park. Always beautiful views on the waterfront
Great playground for the kids. Nice views and quite clean considering the proximity to the riff raff of nanaimo
Beautiful park , always seems like there is some event or another going on here. Places to enjoy the ocean and plenty of open grass to catch the sun's rays; has a zipline across an open body of water with a little beach; a giant gazebo that people like to enjoy a private romantic waltz in; and a playground to take the kids, among many other areas little areas. Plenty of trees to sit under and cool down if that's what your looking for and benches all along the seaside walking trail . A+ park
I love it here !!!! the water front is beautiful, there is a lot of marine life around , there's an awesome playground for the kids, very clean. if you never been u could bring your kids here and occupy them for at least 2-5 hrs for free !! all ages will enjoy
Lovely as always.. great company great view...
A waterfront park in downtain Nanaimo where there's a playground for kids, seawall pathes to stroll on and a little harbour to watch boats and float planes take off to up-island destinations and the mainland. There are eateries, ice cream parlours and the occasional busker to make it an enjoyable visit. If you want a side trip take the mini ferry to Newcastle island where you can see ancient Arbutus trees and grab icecream. Or there's the private ferry to the dingy dock pub...both are reasonably priced trips.
Good for kids, nice water front view
You know it's a classy park when the basketball court still has the nets on the hoops.
Very nice and relaxing area
Beautiful park and very clean.
A great part of a very culturally strong city. Depending on your opinions of discontent city and its affect on Nanaimo's downtown area; Nanaimo's sea wall can either be beautiful or very off-putting. Maffeo Sutton is a great location for various festivals and fairs. Many locations in the park have live performances from buskers. Various artists spend their summers playing music for passers by. But you can still find the odd eccentric flutist playing Christmas tunes in his shorts on the snowy days. The park is also home to a few cozy little restaurants, ice cream parlors, and coffee shops. Whether you're for or against the standing of tent city you must admit that it has had a profound effect on the atmosphere of downtown Nanaimo. If you're the type of person that likes great views maffeo Sutton is the place for you. From the waterfront you can see three tree covered islands: Protection Island, Gabriola Island, and Newcastle Island.
Nice little waterfront walk, has a park, basketball court, tables, bike locks, restrooms open during the day, benches along the way, small stores (Ice cream is all I ever go too) needless to say it's super cute!
Wonderful place - great place to relax and take in the scenery of the Harbour City
Really nice and clean! Great place to meet people.
Great park. Awesome play area for children. Beautiful views!
Great park downtown to walk ,hang out and for special events.
Maffeo Sutton park is Nanaimo's crown jewel....a perfect place for a seaside walk. Enjoy the people watching, activity on the water and have a delightful Ice cream while you watch the sky change during sunset.
Great park and place to walk
I love green space they will always get 5 stars unless poorly maintained
Extinction rebellion September 27 /19
Great place to take a walk. You can try the zip line or just get an ice cream cone and take in the view.
Nicely done upgrades to kids play area, amazing waterfront Park.
Nice place to visit, sea food and souvenirs
They have improved this park so much in the past 10 years. It really livens up the downtown area.
This park is nothing less than incredible. It's beauty is rivaled by none with scenery including wharfs with commercial and private luxury boats. It Includes a board walk from town to the departure bay ferries. There is a also a zipline and large open tidal pond. Through the summer there is almost constant entertainment on the bandstands and local artists and entertainers throughout the park.
This is the nicest children's park we have been to. The equipment is top quality and well maintained. Their selection of equipment is fantastic, lots for all ages. My grandson loved the in ground merry-go-round, I personally think it a human hamster wheel and every family should have one. Non stop running around it as they push the kids on the inside! Climbing apparatus, two zip lines based on age and ability and completely safe. Swings, play houses and so on. A wonderful way to spend an afternoon.
It's on the water. Watch people crabbing on the pier. Take a short boat ride for $8 return to Newcastle Island. Kids love the playground. On weekends the zip line is open for $15.
Here's everything you'd hope to find in a quirky artistically unpretentious coffee shop. By the community they have built and support, and the great throwback feeling of people just chilling together in a supportive and creative space I'm calling it a win for the city. Also, on a personal note, high fives for some keto inspired treats.
Very pretty park, well taken care of. Slight concern because of the number of aggressive homeless persons.
The new playground is a great new addition to the park.
Always Beautiful...love it
Great park. Nice park for the kids or just walk along the water
My favorite place in Nanaimo for walks, dances, sunsets and daily walks!
Good for geocaching. Close to a pub. Nice walk followed by day drinking. Pretty dece. Too many people tho
Great walk and family park.
Maffeo Sutton Park is a lovely coastal park in Nanaimo. It's a beautiful park to walk through and gives you a chance to appreciate the scenery.
My son absolutely loves the new park here!
Love this place. Shared our experience with visitors.
Love doing my walks here, breath in the Ocean Air!!
Nice place to have peace or have morning walk or spend time with your partner
Great playground for the kids, newly updated
A beautiful park and seawall where I can have a quiet, peaceful and safe walk with my dogs late at night. Been doing it there for years.
Playground needs to be upgraded proper foam safdty flooring for children gravel is aweful
It's a nice and quite place to walk during the fall
Great place to take families, young and old. Great warfare for throwing out some crav traps. Park and beach as well as restaurants along the water front.
Stop there to take in the sites. Very beautiful place for sure.
Must see veiws! Great park for kids. Sea lion spottings. Bring bread for all the birds!
Great place to enjoy the sunshine and a walk.
It is a great place to play with kids
The things you do there are limited I think get should add sand along the shore If possible
Nanaimos main tourist park. A very beautiful spot. Everything there for the whole family
Great place to walk and clear the mind. We are so lucky to have this. Only complaint is the people that blatantly don't clean up after there dog's and wreck less bikers not being controlled
Great place to walk on the waterfront. Large children's playground. Outdoor concerts. Special events.
A great park to just walk. Waterfront views...awesome greenery and 2 separate ferries to go to the islands just off shore. A few shops, restaurants, other touristy things.
Its amazing how it was built do everyone can enjoy the beauty of Nanaimo BC.
If your a local or you're just in Nanaimo for a visit this is always a must. The walk from Harborfront walkway to Maffeo Sutton Park or vice versa is a breath of fresh air. While you walk along the water front and enjoy the harbor view you can expect to see seaplanes landing and taking off just above the sales of docked ships. There is a play ground area for you and children. If you choose you can walk to the end of Swy-A-Lana Lagoon Fishing pier. It's a good walk morning; noon; or night with a hot coffee or possibly to walk your canine friend.
Great place to go with kids. Large playground, lots of grassy areas and shade, lots of paths. If you go from the park along the waterfront you can even get ice cream cones!
Nice area. Good waterfront walking and fun crabbing and fishing pier.
Beautiful area with large playground, plenty of grass areas to picnic or chill. Cool sculptures scattered about. Somewhere to swim, play basketball. Even catch a ferry to Newcastle Island. Such a great place to relax.
Not very good in the winter; but, in the spring and summer this park is a great place for kids.
so amazing place. many activities for children and adults. one of the best places in town.
Amazing place to walking along with families.
Such a great place whether it's walking, riding, sitting, playing, listening, eating or fishing. You can do it all.
Nice park, needs some attention to the parking lot. Lots of trash. There is a strong sewage smell where the walking path meets the parking lot near the bridge. Other then that nice place to talk a walk near the waterfront. Great play structure for children.
Beautiful park. Nice pavilion for events and beautiful seawall scenery.
Large Park on water front. Picnic tables, benches and lots of grass to sit and have lunch or do whatever. Big Kids play area. There is a Laguna that is filthy with Moss and allege. Great place for a walk, there are some art works. Nice place. Clean up the lagun.
Brazilian gentleman selling chipas was a delicious surprise
City center of Nanaimo for walking and fishing, with kids play area.
Lovely park. Lots going on here over the summer. Check out what's happening and come.
The grounds are well maintained, swimming, a hot dog cart, the piers, crab fishing off the dock and a playground for the kiddos. Its beautiful!
A nice, level and open, oceanside park along the Nanaimo harbourfront. There is a boardwalk that runs from downtown Nanaimo to almost the ferry landing at Departure Bay. Swy-A-Lana Lagoon is part of this park that has a small enclosed beach area for the kiddies. There is also a playground, as well as a public fishing pier. This is a popular park for outdoor events like bands and watching the fireworks on long weekends and various other festivities. A park for the entire family.
A place to go for a nice evening walk
Beautiful and nice place for fun full family time with kids
Excellent park for children of all ages, quite large in a beautiful setting
Wonderful public park. Great for all ages.
Great playground for kids! Public restrooms a bit dirty.
Nanaimo has done great job here ! There is something for everyone !
Quiet and nice place suitable for all ages..children enjoy here very much.
It's a nice place to have a picnic and the parking is free for the first 3h and Saturday And Sunday the parking is for free all day.
Beautiful seaside park with a playground, a seawall and lots of places to shop and eat. Enjoy.
Super clean and very well maintained all around, would reccomend a stop if you ever drive through! (You can find these awesome food trucks there some days and they're delicious)
Beautiful relaxing area. Plenty of benches and tables.
Beautiful views and kept up great gardens
Best place to visit during the Dragon boat festival.
Clean, nice views. Can have large crowds
Beautiful Park with excellent views, playgrounds and food trucks. I was especially happy to see that the first 3 hours of parking were free.
Used to be a wonderful place to take the family but now is over ran by homeless drug users asking for spare change. Tweaking out and laying down on the main paths.
Nice during the day, not so much at night unless u got some bare mace
Explore and see all sea life people catch at docks
Good place to enjoy has park basket ball hoop a little area for kids to swim
New park structures, clean, bathrooms nearby and trails
Cute family theme park with good harbour views and lots of open space. Good tourist selfie opportunity with large individual letter Nanaimo sign.
One of the nicest parks Nanaimo has. Great for a nice stroll, outdoor yoga or just reading a book in the sun
Nice waterfront park. Homeless can be aggressive.
Amazing park, accessible friendly
I love this park. It's so beautiful year round. My girlfriend and I love it. We even got a photoshoot done with a friend of mine and it was the first place we could think of to get it done.
Nice little trail and great spot for a swim
So awesome to see an inclusive playground! It allows children of varying abilities to enjoy this playground and for adults with varying abilities to accompany/play with children here too! It’s such a fun place to be. Walking around this park was also great as there were food vendors, water mist station, beautiful view and places to swim too.
A lot to do and see
Great revamped playground, super kid friendly with lots to do, nice place for a walk or bike ride with lots of shops along the waterfront, you can usually find a food truck or two there as well. Go listen to locals play music at the gazebo or throw some crab traps off the docks. Has bathrooms available!
Beautiful downtown waterfront park. Must see when you're in town. Great for kids with a huge playground. In the summer you can go zip lining over the lagoon
Everything! The food is fresh, the servers are always cheerful and the atmosphere rocks! Keep up the good work!
One of the best parks in the city.
Very calming being down near the water. It is very well taken care of.

Great place to walk the water front. Coffee shops. Restaurants and a water front pub
Amazing kids playground. Lots of equipment. Quite a few accessible pieces of equipment. Fun place for so many.
Nice park
Awesome park to go for a walk anytime of the year. The view from the seawall is amazing and you can park here for free for the first 3 hours. Being used to Vancouver parking prices, I could not believe this!
Best park in nanaimo, walk the waterfront, let the kids play in the park, swim, enjoy the art work. Washroom facilities as well
Love this playground!! Massive. With zip lines. Just the best ❤️
Great place to go but a lot of needles. Don't always feel safe to go with the family
Nice place; however, there are some homeless people relying on the park facilities to basic needs such as showering and etc. The Nanaimo city should support better these people!
Popular park and walking area on the waterfront of downtown Nanaimo. Often referred to as the seawall. Tjere is a playground park for kids, a gazebo where events are often held, areas for picnics, ice cream shops and souvenir shops a short walk away. Public washrooms are available but avoid unless you really need them as they aren't that clean and have often been the sites for overdoses and other unpleasant occurrences.
Simply the best place in Nanaimo to people watch , plus there's a huge park for kids , there is a crab dock with locals crabbing, bike trails , walking trails , host of bath tub race , dragon boats , silly boats , frequent night bands , frequent craft fairs , ice cream shops , gift shops , access to protection island ferry.. need I say more ...
Beautiful Walk on the Waterfront very relaxing!!!!
My grandson loved this park!
Great place for a walk on the ocean .Has kids play area .
Petroglyphs are interesting but quite faded. A nice spot to stop and stretch your legs.

It's beautiful park surrounded by ocean ???? and view it's just incredible!!!!!
Been there many times and today's record high temperatures could not deter me. Views won against hot record breaking Temps.
Very nice park, clean kept, first 3 hours of parking are free.
Small and peaceful place
Nice place to chill. Relaxing sound if water and you could also go crabbing.
Pleasant park next to ocean great playground for kids with every ability. Nice grassy area for picnics
Beautiful park, right on the water. Public washrooms, great playgrounds suitable for kids of all ages and a nicer paved running path along the waterfront for a leisurely stroll or 5km run. The Nanaimo sigh is an excellent photo opp. The ferries and Marina are near by as a super convenient stop before or after catching a ferry
The new accessible playground is fantastic and inclusive for all ages and abilities!
Lovely park with several activities for kids including a lagoon, climbing park, and zip line.
Great place for a walk on a sunny day.
I love all the family activities they have going on everyday
all gud great exp
The new playground here is really nice. There could be more seating spots for parents as it tends to be very busy.
Went here for the Blues Fest. 4 days of the best recording artists and musicians! The venue in the park was spacious and plenty of tents were available for shade. The park is on the waterfront and is very nice.
Great place for a short waterfront walk. Good park for kids to play on. Nice shops.
Nice view, excellent for walking and kids
Great place for a quiet peaceful walk. Also lucky as there are food trucks coming and going
Very pretty park. Great to have the playground. Nice fishing/crabbing docks.
Beautiful park and it's near the ocean.
One of the coolest playgrounds I’ve been at
Love walking the Seawalk to take in the harbour views.
Beautiful dog walk.
We love this park. We love walking the sea wall, watching planes take off in the harbour, checking out the little shops and walking through the marina. The kids love the big playground. Just not in the best area and it sucks having to warn your kids to look out for needles and stuff.
Really nice spot, kids have a BLAST here! Great area to walk along the waterfront as well but bring a jacket, she gets a little windy now and then. We're excited to see the next bit they're planning!
It was a beautiful day for a walk with my wife, there was a few people playing some music, good time for exercise.
My favorite place to go for a walk
Lovely place for meeting friends and family. Very clean and pretty Lots of bench
Great place for a casual walk. Watch the sea planes come and go and listen to buskers, some of who are pretty good.

The scenery and art installations are lovely and the park is great for kids.
A good play area for kids. And part of the waterfront walkway. Watch out for street people and beggars.

Lovely oceanside municipal park. Paved walking paths, fishing pier, swim area, kids playground. Public Restrooms.
My favorite park in Nanaimo. Best for walks and picnics.
Fun place to.take your dog for a walk. Or the kids..... good play areas for children and nice cute shops. Food and coffee decently priced.
Very beautiful and calm place with sea view
Great reconciliation celebration and presentation there today!
Scenic harbour walk. Paved sidewalk, flat, very walkable. Wheelchair accessible. Watch for cyclists.
You know what's more visible than an overly expensive nonsensical sign? The horrendous homeless problem that could probably be solved with $40,000 or at least make a serious change to the lives of a lot of people in need right now. Sort out your priorities, Nanaimo cause you are an embarrassment right now.
Great park! Awesome children's playgroynd
Kids had lots of fun. Giant slide, long zip line
