This park is hidden but easily to get to.The first part is a set of steps that Parks Nanaimo is doing a good job maintaining.A nice water falls less than two minutes from entering the park.A great place for some pics.A series of walk ways with a grated metal plates leads to the water front.

Love this place the scenery is amazing it reminds me of ferngully. I love to take the dog here and walk the trail to the beach. Peaceful and lush forest trail leads to the beach eight by the bc ferry terminal.

Awesome walk in a forest, in town with a waterfall, ending down at the ocean.

Pretty icy right now (early January 2022) so we couldn't make it all the way down. But I'm excited to come back when it melts! This is a beautiful trail with stairs, bridges and waterfalls! So much better than I expected. A hidden gem that takes you to the water!

Hidden gem! There’s a small beach to walk along and find giant oyster shells, or a lovely and fairly long forest trail surrounding you with temperate rainforest plants. Great place to escape for a medium walk or afternoon picnic!

Kim Logan

Nice surroundings. Easy enough walk. Trail is narrow in spots. Steps and bridges are needing repair.

Beautiful little park. Great hike to the beach, down to the ferry terminal. A quite little walk through the forest, with manicured stairs and bridges.

Most favorite park in Nanaimo most wonderful opportunity to run literally through time going from rock to rocks of unknowns sedimentary deposits built upon trees and sand wat a most magical place and I got this great black and white shot in about 100 ft view radius

I really enjoy walking here, lots of surprises along the way. A wilderness oasis in the middle of a very busy part of Nanaimo.

Great place to hike and relax , look around.

Beach Estates Park is a lovely little gem of a walk that travels through a lengthy ravine starting on Departure Bay Road across from Brooks Landing and takes you right down to the waterfront. At that point you can veer left or right to get to local neighbourhoods, or at low tide you can also walk along the sea floor to where it reconnects with the walking path at the BC Ferry Terminal. The City of Nanaimo is planning to connect these paths to extend the waterfront boardwalk. The park is made up of a series of paths, walkways, bridges and staircases that winds through a lush, mossy, green forest. It really is quite beautiful and is like a different world down there. There is a lovely waterfall along the path and at the right times during the year it is suitably impressive, especially as one of the more elaborate bridges crosses right in front of it. Do be careful as the steps, walkways and bridges can get quite slippery during rainy and winter weather.

Peter McNeil

Beautiful managed walk, with fantastic trees and a winding creek. Perfect for most walking abilities, although it is fairly steep at points. Sadly no accessible route.

Beautiful private and small hike.

You would never know that this place is right in town in Nanaimo. An easy hike through the woods at the top of departure bay and island highway. Parking at the church or at save on foods. Great hike and would be kid friendly. Waterfalls and huge trees and the trail is currently being maintained and fixed up. The end of the trail is a beach near the ferry terminal. Check it out if you need a break from the “big city” Nanaimo Livin! 5 stars for sure!

Fun walk down to the beach by the ferries. Winds along next to a stream and there are a couple little waterfalls.

Nice walk down to the ferry terminal

Gorgeous & shady walk through the woods, along a stream, down to Departure Bay. Boardwalk is well maintained and our dogs had a great time! A good stroll for the hot summer days ahead - we'll be back. NOTE - park at the Church of Nazarene behind Brooks Landing and beside Cilaire Elementary - you'll see the signs for the trailhead :)

Charlotte McDonnell

This is one of my favorite parks in Nanaimo. The waterfall is a 2 minute walk from the parking lot, and then a boardwalk and dirt path will lead you downstream and eventually arrive at a beach beside the ferry terminal.

Good lil hike down to the beach

Love it. After the windstorm, it didn't take the city that long to open up the park again. Congratulations! A few more benches located strategically along the trail and maybe a gazebo and picnic table at the end would be great. Also, I hope it is eventually connected to the proposed seaside walk that will go all the way to downtown. Would be tremendous!

Nice beach for a nature hike.

A well trodden path of compacted dirt and numerous wood and metal bridges walkways and stairs. Can be a bit muddy after a rainy day. It's only about a 15 minute walk of winding paths from the church parking lot entrance on Departure Bay Road to the bay. But it is a very nice scenic walk with the option of walk along the shore a number of km's if the tide is low. I counted at least 3 other access points. I submitted some photos earlier.

It's a good 10-15 minute walk down metal and wood stairs, walkways, and dirt paths. Some of it might be muddy if it rained a lot. There are 2 neat waterfalls on the way. The beach at the end overlooks the ferry terminal. It's not the nicest beach, but still plenty of activities and exploring for kids to do. Keep in mind it's a good elevation change, so save some energy for the hike back up. :)

A nice relaxing walk down to the beach at departure bay

beautiful walk.

Lovely but hidden. A few of the sections need repair after the winter storms of 2019 and 2020

David J. Laporte

Hidden jem of a city park for a quick hike. Feels like youre in middle of deep pacific northwestern forest. Ends at a nice small beach near the BC ferries terminal at Departure Bay.

propane river

It's a great little walk wherever you're entered either the access point from the church across from Brooks landing or from Beach park trail just up the hill from the lights at departure bay terminal. You can pretty much walk up to a docked BC ferry, the beach access is right next to one. Follow the creek bed up along the path you might see a little water fall, but that's not the main one it's closer to the church entrance.

Tere Arboleda

Short, easy, and lovely walk. So many stairs.

A great view of the ferries and a nice trail through the forest along a creek, we went through during a light rain so the path was a bit muddy but the steps and bridges are made of steel so they dont get slippery.

A very cool place great spot. And the trails were being redone at the time. So much nicer. And the view at the end is so worth it. Bring a drink ! We found 2 star fish beginning of aug. Very cool!!

Despite no wheelchair access. There is a great beach to watch BC ferries departure bay come and going of boats..nearby hiking trails. Great place to go for a bit of outdoor exersize while spending time if in ferry lineup if you have more than 1:30hrs of wait time until departure from BC ferries departure bay route.
