Magical place! Best to be visited during spring ???? Also, brave yourself for a lot of walking ????
Went for the Halloween light show. It was neat but less than expected.
Chinese garden and arboretum were both fantastic. Very calming place in the middle of the city
This place is huge. To truly see and appreciate the whole thing it would easily take 6 hours. So if you want to see it in a shorter amount of time this is my advice. The entrance to the greenhouse is on the left near the restaurant. If this is what you think of when you think botanical garden this is what you want to see. Here you will find tropical rain forest plants, orchids, carnivorous plants, etc. Then they have cacti and dry plants in another section. This area was so large I didn't see the whole thing because I got here at the very end of my time. Then there is everything outside. Outside is equally beautiful but it's just so large a lot of time can be spent here without necessarily finding the greenhouse first. There are ponds, lilac gardens with benches and beautiful landscaping, there are forest areas with paths under the canopy, there are Chinese and Japanese gardens. The list goes on. There is a reason this is the second largest botanical garden in the world. They even have a whole food garden with what seems like every vegetable imaginable. If you love plants this place is wonderful, just be prepared to walk and give it the necessary time.
These photos are 8 years-old ,but it's still extraordinary. I love it ????
A must when visiting Montreal, there are always new things to see!
A must see attraction if you are in Montreal. Located in the heart of the city - locals and visitors enjoy this place a like. Come here for a date, walk, relax, bike, medidate etc. Its just beautiful and you will not regret it. Either for a few hours or the entire day - it's a relaxing place to be escaping the bustle of the city. Highly recommended
Huge park! So much to see, so much to do, the garden sections are amazing, both the plants and the thoughtful arrangement of them. I'd recommend going there for the whole day, with some lunch boxes and cool drinks.
Great experience! Lots of great green life... Amazing sculpture.. one of the best in Canada... Food was world class
Beautiful and educational! I went here last October and got to see a whole educational room on different types of squash. It was pleasant to walk around. The only negative I found is that we thought the large ornamental hedges would be there, and apparently that's only for a competition every few years. Thought that part of the website was a bit misleading, but enjoyed the rest of the trip!
I intended to walk around the garden outdoor but due to recent snow falls, it enables me to scout the area for my upcoming portrait. However I was able to do my indoor tour at the enclosed gardens where there were like 5 people tpuring the area with masks on and no winter jacket, the temperature was warm as if your inside a forest. Beautiful landscapes and gorgeous flowers that you see in the wilderness. I will go back on Sunday for a portrait of my upcoming wedding event. The staffs were very friendly all the time .
Wonderful place to visit. Fee max $ 21 for one adult. Lots of variety of trees and plants. Exhausted of counting the types ...perhaps they are in thousands. The Garden of different cultures also attracted my attention. Indigenous People Garden, Japanese Garden, Chinese Garden & a lot more. The garden is established in the 1930’s which made it rich in variety & old beauty. The fresh air to breath, the quietness to read and the scenery to enjoy made my day. Please give it a try. Worth visiting.
I had reserved tickets for the garden of lights, however we also planned to visit early during the day to take a walk in different gardens. My experience in day visit was better than the lights. It's a beautifully built garden. Have captured millions of pics during my visit, not sure which to upload and hence decided to upload none. First nation's garden is what I liked the most. Though medicinal plants, Chinese garden were also exceptional.
Great place to spend a few hrs. You are able to bring food in (restaurant rather pricey). As an FYI we saw the mosaicultures on Google but they are no longer there.
This is am absolutely beautiful and expansive series of gardens right in the city. The breadth and depth of the collection is so fun to explore and the layout of the gardens is beautiful. This visit will take a fair bit of time. You don't have to see it all, but you will definitely want to take in the tropical environment (in the expansive greenhouse) and pick the gardens that most appeal to you. I have been to Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. While it has a different focus - this is a more interesting visit if you are even a little interested in plants and gardens.
Outside garden is free, inside greenhouse needs to buy tickets, around 16$. Both need to check vaccines passport. Really deserve to visit and can learn a lot from the greenhouse!
Light show, though nice, was rushed and we definitely did not have sufficient time to walk through the entire exhibit in our timeslot, based on our booked time and time remaining until closing time. Security was trying to get everyone out well before closing time. Pretty disappointed overall.
A must visit in the city. Beautiful walk through the gardens, it is wonderful to see nature and plants and flowers in such a peaceful place. I also loved the cafe/bistro and ice cream place as you walk in (there’s vegan options!)
You could spend an entire day here. The gardens are expansive and beautiful - with an entire arboretum behind them. The Chinese & Japanese gardens were artistically put together and the First Nations gardens felt like home ❤️
Enjoyed our time here. A very beautiful place, so take your time exploring. The weather was fantastic on our visit, so the walk was very nice. The facilities are closed, so keep that in mind (bring food and water). Overall I highly recommend visiting this place when in Montreal.
Beautiful and peaceful. Many things are closed because of the pandemic such as the insectarium or the green house but definitely worth it still. No mask needed as long as not entering any buildings.
The botanical garden is just a beautiful sight to see, the flowers are all more impressive than the others and the colours are definitely mesmerizing. I recommend going there on a sunny day, so you can really capture the beauty of it. It takes about 1-3 hours to walk around and appreciate the different gardens but it’s definitely worth every penny!! Don’t forget to go inside as well, the plants are also impressive
The grounds are beautiful and well kept. We did not see a single piece of trash on the ground despite so many visitors to the area. We took our time enjoying the views and appreciated how everything was neatly laid out.
It was pretty cool but I went at a dead time of year and it was kind of expensive. Would recommend going in the spring or summer. Lots of really cool exhibits though inside structures around the park. Most everything is translated into English as well.
The Montreal Botanical Garden is a large botanical garden in Montreal, Quebec, Canada comprising 75 hectares of thematic gardens and greenhouses. The Chinese garden and the light festival are the best... So, very lovely...
Spent a good few hours here a few weeks ago. The Chinese gardens were my favourite outside, loved the bit with all the bonsai trees, super cool! The part that I loved the most though was the greenhouse inside. Would love to come back when the insectarium opens!
Awesome place! I absolutely love visiting the botanical gardens. I've been going there since I was kid, try going at least once a year. There's so many different parts to it. You could take take your time and you'll have a full day of walking around. The Japanese section is definitely my favorite part . Everything is just so nice. If you've never been it's definitely worth a visit, very well maintained. A bit pricey but worth the experience ????????????
I was really amazed about the massive land that this botanical garden occupies. It took me around 40 minutes to find a parking space and finally I was lucky enough to find it just in front of one of the entrances. We have visited almost the entire garden but the most exciting parts of our tour were the Insectarium and the Chinese garden. There were many activities running simultaneously in different zones of the park. My only concern is there aren’t variety of food inside the park. If there were we would definitely spent couple of hours more until dawn as we were having so much fun.
Very beautiful .. the Chinese garden view is absolutely stunning.. !
The best botanical Gardens I have ever visited. This place is huge and has more than something for everyone. You will need a good day to see everything here, as the trails seem to go on endlessly. I came here in Sept and the flower garden was still in colourful bloom. The greenhouses showcases lots of cacti and tropical plants. Amongst other sections, forests, old trees, kitchen garden, there's also the first nations forest, rock, grass, zen garden and most fun and popular of all the Chinese gardens. It's so colourful and playful with every corner a great photo opportunity. For the price it is well worth to spend an enjoyable day for all ages.
Beautiful gardens, especially the Chinese gardens and area around the lake - where the Autumnal tree reflections were stunning! Easily spent 2 hours here, could spend longer
There's a lot there, and it's not what you would typically think of as a garden. Many people go to the Japanese and Chinese gardens (I went to the Japanese garden and enjoyed seeing all of the koi fish), and it can also be fun to go through the fruit garden. However, my favorite was the shade garden, which is basically the woods, since not many people go there and it is a good escape from the rest of the gardens. The first Nations garden is basically a walk through the woods with some playgrounds, sculptures, and historical displays. I didn't go in the woods in the back half of the park, but I don't know why you would spend so much time there. Overall, plan your time!
This was one of the most surprising visits to me in Montreal. The botanical garden is of good size, excellently maintained, and well organized. Staff was always friendly and accommodating. The atmosphere is nice and calm and the garden is separated into different areas and themes. The Chinese garden is fantastic. As a sign of friendship between Montreal and Shanghai, the garden was entirely designed and built in China before being disassembled and shipped to Montreal.
Great for outside walk around the gardens. We were there on January 1st and they were open. We didn't go inside as we thought that 50$ for 2 people is way too much. But we had a great time outside.
I hadn't been here in years. I was quite disappointed. They do not take care of this place like they used to many years back. Some parts are really nice like the Japanese and Chinese gardens. Also nice was hanging out near the ponds. Everything else is not great, especially if you are walking the perimeter. I have the Access montreal card so entry was free for me. Had I paid the regular $16.50, I would have been upset. It's time they start investing more in this place.
So amazing place with a specific design. You can see various kinds of garden styles from Japanese to Chinese at the same tine. One of the greatest gardens and green spaces I've ever visit.
Great place to spend an afternoon walking the outdoor trails.
Great early summer visit! Always a great time and very safe to visit during the pandemic
I loved it! Due to covid the indoor greenhouses were closed, so I’m sure this place is even better than I’m giving it credit for. This is a beautiful place to stop in the morning for a stroll through various themed gardens. They also have plenty of trails you can walk through. I saw some really neat flowers and got some great ideas for things to add to my own garden. I love how everything is labeled.
very beautiful and very big botanical garden. Need 4-6hrs to explore whole park with taking some rest in between. One indoor park, Chinese garden, Japanese garden, pine garden, fruits & vegs garden and many more. There are two lovely cute restaurants, however, you can carry snacks with you.
It was amazing, every year I go for different events and it always looks so different, this year I went for the Chinese Lantern festival and they used the most beautiful ambience sounds as well as the lights themselves. They had a tree that absolutely glowed and they had these tricks where they made it look like portals were floating in the sky. When we arrived at the Chinese culture part it was so beautiful. They went above and beyond. The food they sold was amazing, they had different flavours of popcorn and I decided to be creative and choose their steak spice flavoured popcorn, it was buttered with a bit of pepper, it was the best popcorn I had ever had.
Good garden. Huge expanse. Nicely maintained. $16 fee per adult. Lot of roses and benches. Food options are not that great.
Highly recommend ! With 181 acres (75 ha) of plantings in summer and 10 greenhouses open year round, the Montreal Botanical Garden is second only in size to England's Kew Gardens. It grows more than 26,000 species of plants, and among its 30 thematic gardens are a rose garden, an alpine garden, and - a favorite with the kids - a poisonous-plant garden. Visitors can attend traditional tea ceremonies in the Japanese Garden, which has one of the best bonsai collections in the West, wander among the native birches and maples of the First Nations Garden or explore the winding paths of the Chinese Garden. If visiting between February and April, don't miss the Butterflies Go Free exhibit. The botanical garden is of good size, excellently maintained, and well organized. The atmosphere is nice and calm and the garden is separated into different areas and themes. The Chinese garden is fantastic. Ambient music and sound effects accompany every part of your walk and themed accordingly. Japanese and First Nation themes are memorable. Truly outstanding in every way - the sights can't be beat! The walking paths were clearly outlined so you never felt like you were wandering off. Also, there were plenty of different species of plants that were very appropriate clustered and with esthetics to match it's origins. Visited during Gardens of Light event. Nice place for a safe evening stroll in Montreal. Takes about 2 hours to walk through at a leisurely pace.
Beauty in a city full of concrete. It’s a refreshing ambiance and relaxing atmosphere. Will be back more often. My mom loved it here.
Amazing experience , staff were super friendly , free parking !
Omg. This botanical garden is so beautiful in the heart of the city. Every time I visit Montreal, I also visit this garden. You should visit and see Chinese garden. I think it’s the best garden in this place. Outside Quebec residence and Quebec residents pay different amounts which is ridiculous I think. But I really recommend to visit.
The gardens were beautiful -- Chinese and Japanese are must see. Many of the flowers weren't blooming anymore, so spring may be a better time to visit.
Lovely setting with a veritable treasure trove of flora and fauna beautifully laid out across an expansive acreage features something for everyone - common and uncommon perennials, annuals, vegetables, fruit trees, and a large arboretum. The ponds and streams showcase many decorative water features, especially in the Oriental section where the water exerts a wonderfully calming influence to the landscaping and temples. The rose garden is unlike anything you've ever seen - it just goes on and on with gorgeous, lush beds of fragrant and aromatic roses of all colours. No wonder it's received numerous accolades and awards. Easy access via the metro. Memorable and magnificent!
A great collection of plants, trees, and flowers. There's a Japanese, Chinese, and indigenous garden with awesome scenery for photo shooting. They got a Chinese lantern festival in fall and an indoor insectarium.
Beautiful gardens. I wish they still had the living sculptures.
Splendid fall colors! The garden is a beautiful way to experience different cultures and learn all along the way.
Our favorite place to visit in the summer and the fall to see the lights. The Chinese and Japanese garden here are so peaceful to take a stroll through. A must visit when you are in Montreal.
A really beautiful place to visit! It is pretty expensive (a bit over $20 a person) but a lot of effort goes into the gardens. I really enjoyed the Japanese and Chinese gardens. I liked how there was information on how they were constructed, and that the Chinese buildings were actually built abroad and disassembled, then sent to Montreal and reconstructed! The Japanese garden reminded me of a garden I visited in Tokyo. I recommend this place to garden and flower lovers.
One major let down was from the photos we saw, there was the living sculptures but these are unfortunately not there any more. Overall a really beautiful experience and a great relaxing place to spend the day
The power was out in the Japanese Garden and unfortunately we did not get to see it. Fortunately they let us in for free to see the rest. Glad we did. Lots of walking and lots of beautiful flowers. I would love to go back at night and see the lights. I bet it’s even more beautiful.
This is a gem in our city. First time seeing the lanterns and the light shows and it was really impressive. Look at my pictures.
This is a great day, quiet and beautiful the green houses are amazing the outdoor gardens are wonderful. I can not impress upon you enough to block out 5 hours and just wander around and soak in the beauty. As for a walk and shoot for the camera bugs, you of course want to wrong.
A lovely way to spend a day. The garden is massive amd filled with wonderful exhibits
What a beautiful place. So big, you need at least two days to explore it all. Has so many interesting points and so much information that by the time you get out you will know everything about plants. The architecture found there is also really impressive.
It was really pretty and peaceful to walk through but wasn’t that worth it either.
Beautiful but considering many sections are closed//under renovation, the admission should be $15/adult max., including taxes. I feel like we were ripped off. There is free, on street parking available however.
I enjoyed being in this place immensely. The flowers are so beautiful. They are arranged in such a delightful manner that it makes you feel like you’re in paradise. I took so many pictures and walked long distances. The place is huge! We were not able to see everything. My feet were sore and my camera ran out of battery. Luckily there are benches amid beautiful garden. It is such a nice feeling to sit for awhile and admire it’s beauty. Unfortunately, restaurant inside was closed because of Covid. So bring water and a power-bank.
It's one of the best gardes I have visited. The Chinese and Japanese gardens are ultimate. Felt like I was in other country.
I really enjoyed walking in the botanical gardens. I went there in September which I am sure look different than in the spring or summer. Still, very pretty shaded gardens, Chinese garden and the Japanese garden are beautiful. I loved the bonzais collection there.
This place is brazy as hell. Wow. I never knew I enjoyed looking at plants so much. I was walking through that indoor place with my mind shook. It was almost too much, all the colours and all the different vibes. If you’re in Montreal you gotta visit this place. Even in the winter time it is so magnificent!
Great place to take the kids for a walk and learn about the many different species of plants. Highly recommended for a family outing and it's not too expensive!
It's amazing!!! We were thinking about skipping it but we are so glad that we came. It's really something special.
We went for the jardin de lumière. We walked for 40 mins for nothing as the entrance was closed at 6h pm. We had to walk back to the car and enter in the public parking that was not advertised anywhere. It was completely full, we had to turn back and park somewhere else and walk another 20 mins. Then, had to wait in a 30 mins line. Then the actual parkour was about an hour. It was ok. Nothing we haven't seen before with those other places like foresta lumina. There was nothing really standing out or not even a story behind the light show. Just some random sound and light show going around. I guess we were expecting more.
Wow! You can find various type of flowers, trees and herbs with special decoration and design Japanese and Chinese garden are stunning. Medicinal plants are interesting to know more about the medical use of the plants. A very big plus is all the species have labels so you can get information from books or online about them. Pond full of lotus is like a postal card. There are different types of lotus there with different colors.
Very extensive gardens, expect to spend at minimum several hours here. You can easily spend a whole day working your way through the outdoor gardens and indoor tropical gardens. The tropical gardens are nice because the weather won't be an issue, so neither will the time of year. For the outdoor gardens on the other hand, you'd probably want to visit from May on, as that's when you'll obviously benefit most from the warmer weather, and bloomed plants. My most recent visit was in April, and despite being early in the year, and the weather not being great, it was still beautiful. I especially love the Chinese and Japanese gardens, and after having been to China a number of times, I realize how authentic it is! Reminded me so much of some of the temples I visited while in China on numerous occasions. I'd definitely recommend this as something to see while in Montreal, but to get the most out of it, May or June would be the better months to visit.
Went for the lanterns recently but this place is so amazing and has so much to offer! Beautiful greenhouses and gardens with seasonal activities for everyone to enjoy. If you like nature and plants, you will love the botanical garden.
Amazing amazing amazing place one should go. It’s like wallpapers you see in dekstops. What a beautiful place❤️
The lanterns are one of the best things to see. Walk through beautiful creations that are both artistic and creative. This is a great family event to attend to as well as an amazing date night event. Note that when things are busy parking is a challenge and can be tricky
Really enjoyed the Botanical Gardens. Very well thought out light show. It was quite magical.
For any tropical plant enthusiasts out there (whether a casual hobbyist or it's your career) you HAVE to visit. The greenhouse stretches way further than you would assume. The proper labels for each plant leave no guessing as to what you are looking at. It was amazing to see plants that I grow myself in my home, but which are thriving here in perfect conditions.
Love the park I been there last year in September 2020 during Covid. The park is well maintained and landscaped. It is divided in many different sub-parks. Like Japanese zen garden with a pond and various other types. It has a place where one sees several type of vegetation. The park is huge almost take you 5-6 hours if you want to explore everything. Parking has a big lot for which one have to pay and for park tickets one can buy with out of 3 choices which you want to select.
This is one of my favourite places here in Montreal especially in the Spring time. The smell and the variations of the flowers were amazingly fresh. Plus, I got the chance to sit on one of the benches and even on the grass while I was watching the beautiful garden. A great place to relax with. Highly recommended!
Went there in July. Beautiful gardens. My kids haven’t seen traditional Chinese gardens. This is a memorable experience. The trip was educational too. Also admire Koi in the pond for good luck!
The variety is amazing. One can spend a whole day here. I really liked the cacti area, make sure you don't miss it!
Gorgeous garden filled with a variety of sections that each had its own theme. The addition of the Chinese and Japanese gardens definitely took my breath away. Accessibility: There were many accessible pathways to traverse around the garden. Plentiful of signs and maps to help guide the way. There was a mini-train that went around the garden to help others travel, which is very convenient. We did not visit the top half of the garden because the majority of the sections were in the lower half near the entrance. Chinese Garden: This garden was definitely their largest of all the different gardens, it had the most effort and work done. Exquisite buildings to replicate Chinese culture and history. There was a lot to see and experience. Definitely one of my favourites. Japanese Garden: Not as big as the Chinese garden, but it had its fair share of displaying Japanese culture and history. There were plentiful of koi fish in the pond and it was a pleasure just playing with them. Other Gardens: There was a large variety of gardens revolving around edible plants, toxic plants, medicinal plants, First Nations, etc. They were all fascinating and it is a great way to explore and see the art of horticulture.
It is beautiful little getaway in the middle of the city ???? If you’re a plant lover, need a new scenery, or your just looking for something new to see in the City, I highly recommend visiting this Beautiful gardens, it's so relaxing inside the greenhouse that you could spend and hour there every time, just smelling flowers, taking photos
100%i recommend the place is fabulous wonderful with nice planets at least you need 4 hours to see all of them nice for taking the pictures also there is discount for students even in summer
Such a beautiful garden. It took us about 2.5 hours to do and some were not even in bloom! Awesome variety.
Highly suggest you visit these botanical gardens. The butterfly observatory was incredible. Whether you’re visiting Montreal or a local; if you haven’t been, this is a stunning botanical garden.
Must visit..peaceful place to be at...lots of walking..choose good weather
Nice place to see a lot of different kinds of plants, friendly people working at this place.
Awesome and relaxing environment. Great place to walk around and enjoy nature. 10/10 would definitely visit again. I loved the bonsai section in the Chinese Garden of the park. Better to arrive early in the morning because after noon it gets busy.
I am a HUGE fan of botanical gardens so this was a must for our trip to Montreal. We spent quite a few hours here and probably would have spent more if it hadn't been such a hot day. The gardens are beautiful! I'll say it again for those in the back - Beautiful! There are lots of different sections - a Chinese garden, a Japanese garden, a shady garden, shrubs, beautiful flowers, goes on and on. There are also little ponds and lakes here and there, adding to the overall beauty of this place. If botanical gardens are your thing then you have to come here and plan on being here a few hours at least. Loved it and I'd love to go back!
Beautiful gardens and really long walk. You can spend hours here if you like taking photos.
Absolutely stunning. The garden of the senses is a delight for all. Plant and wildlife galore. You'll need a few days to cover thrle grounds, so make a plan or plan to return. Cafe is reasonably priced with great selections for vegans and vegetarians.
Very big, practical layout, and many varieties of plants that will interest everyone. Admission fees are reasonable for a large scale garden like this one.
This garden is really worth visiting. Chinese and Japanese gardens are the first ones you see and are very beautiful and picturesque. It was my first time seeing 90 year old Bonsai plants. The alpine and indoor tropical gardens are really unique in Canada. The restaurant next to garden also was really good to refresh and get some delicious pastry and coffee. Expect to walk for some hours.
This place is stunning. Doesn't feel like you're in Montreal. If you love flowers, this is the place. My mom and I had a wonderful time there :)
Amazingly beautiful and well maintained. I found a bit expensive, I mean for what it is the price is right, but I think is not accessible for everyone or for someone to go multiple times a month.
Beautiful botanical garden. Worth the visit.
One of the places that you must go when you go to Montreal. Great for nature lovers, enjoyed to the most. A peaceful and beautiful place to visit while you get some steps in;)
The Botanical Garden used to look healthier. I'm not sure if the impact of the pandemic caused that they don't care of it as they used to. Some of the paths are closed for renovations. Hopefully they will have this place back on track soon or at least for the next summer.
What a beautiful garden with different themes like First Nations Garden, Vegetable Garden, Rose Garden, Flower Garden, Chinese Garden, Japanese Garden, etc. It is huge size. Lots of walking required (more than 4km - no other option except for walking). Wear comfortable shoes. One of the best gardens I have visited. A definite must visit. Atleast 4 hours required if someone wants to see everything. Hugs varieties of exotic flora not easy to be seen otherwise. My favorite was giant water lily..I saw first time in real and was mesmerized by its beauty.
Beautiful gardens with fantastic specimens from around the world. We visited in winter and loved walking through the beautiful greenhouses. The volunteer guides are so kind and friendly. 100% recommend visiting!
Honestly the most gorgeous place in Montreal. Flowers and flora overload! I could probably spend a week here! Will definitely be back!
Wonderful place! Choose Chinese and rock gardens for great pictures. People who are into flowers will fall in love with this place. It's like a mini forest with small waterfalls, lakes, bridges and the very important aspect, plants and trees. Tip: Bring snacks(must) and wear comfortable footwear.
Had a great experience. You can spend a whole day there! There are so many beautiful flowers and plants and they are arranged into topic based areas. You could have a fun photoshoot or just sit and watch the ducks.
The gardens never cease to amaze. I go at least once a month to see what's in bloom. The colors are always changing and the design of the gardens and colors are outstanding. One of the best botanical gardens in the world!
One of the best in the world in spring and summer, there is a lovely flower bed display. On long summer days spend your time passing the hours on one of the seats overlooking the duck pond under the shade of a big tree. The cafe is quite good if you are stopping in for morning coffee or lunch and would recommend.
What great spot to spend an afternoon. The café was closed which was unfortunate, but the gardens were perfectly kept, and the night time lights were a beautiful addition to an already beautiful Montreal attraction.
Had a lot of fun exploring the different sections of the Gardens. Also was surprised to find some geese there.
Great experience for a day out with the family. It was spring so not everything was open but it was buetiful non the less. Will be back in the summer so that we can see everything in full bloom.
One of the best gardens I've ever visited. The variety of the trees, flowers, and herbs are unbelievable. You may see different species from different part of the world. It is well worth seeing and every penny you spent. Less than 20$ for entrance seems logical. I visited here during my stay at Montreal and here was one of the best places in the city to go sightseeing.
Beautiful place to visit in Montréal! Be prepared though, you’ll be walking for a long time.
If you enjoy looking at flowers, learning about what kind of plants are out there, great place to bring kids, beautiful and colorful setups ... This is the place to go. A great way to go and spend the day and relax, learn some new, see a variety of how beautiful nature can be, i even saw some people reading a book, places that entertain kids. Or for photography enthusiasts, a great to get a bunc of lovely photos to add to your photography collection or portfolios.
beautiful place, if you like nature this is the place.
The gardens are worth visiting. One day of roaming around the various gardens offered are not enough. The Chinese garden, the Japanese garden and the rose garden already took over 3 hours to just walk around in. The trees and flowers were all so beautiful to look at.
Montreal botanical garden is beautiful through all the seasons. But only in the spring and the summer, the garden is covered by the rainbows made by trees and flowers.
Amazing, the flowers and trees were beautiful, the park was well maintained and the areas were clean, there wasn't too much people they are doing a nice crowd control. Its nice that you don't have to wear a mask on the outside so you can smell all the flowers!
Very beautiful area with different kind of flowers and trees , i was really surprised by the big numbers of plants...the workers were working hard and keeping the place clean..the garden is so big and has many interests .
It’s a very very pretty and clean place to go! It’s very easy to go to, you can get off at Pie-IX and just about 5 mins walking distance! Amazing design for the garden!
Didn’t really walk much of the gardens but the greenhouses were awesome!! The staff were very sweet and helpful too.
Beautiful spot to go and visit . Took my parents to visit in the fall. Great weather and we had a fantastic time. Amazing place, gardens are breathe taking. Definitely worth the visit, I will go back again in the spring and summer to see all the amazing Flowers. Great to visit during any season. Chinese gardens are definitely my favourite
always beautiful and calming. we go to the lantern festival nearly every year and it’s always gorgeous. we actually tried the food from the restaurant last time we went and everything was so yummy we ate pretty quick and didn’t take pics lol but it was pretty pricy…
Beautiful place but a lot of the exhibits were under construction so they didn't look at nice as they usually do.
The nighttime fall tour is a must, gorgeous place!
Beautiful place!! Went with my boyfriend and we really enjoyed it! Not a lot of people at this time of the year, it was quiet and we could take our time to take pictures and see everything. However I would definitely return in summer because there were no flowers yet outside.
Absolutely recommend visiting if you can. Spent the whole day here and still did not visit all the gardens. The greenhouses are packed with amazing plants and lots of information. Stayed for the Festival of Lights though the Chinese gardens, First Nations gardens, and Japanese gardens. I do recommend also visiting them outside of the festival of lights as parts of the gardens are blocked off for safety at night. I will be back to visit the rest and to see it in the other seasons.
Beautiful gardens and very informative to learn all the plants too. It was such a nice place to walk around and chill. Among the theme gardens there were a lot of shade. It would not be too hot in summer. All the different sections of flowers and plants area didn’t have much shade, but worth to check details and learn. There were a TOXIC PLANTS section. Be careful with kids. It was really good to remember these plants.
Beautiful and perfect time of the year to go visit. Perfect almost fall weather.
If you wake up one day and tell yourself that you feel like going to the nature while not being far from the city, travelling to China or Japan while being close to home in Montreal, well you need no teleport. Just a visit to Montreal’s fascinating botanical garden will grant you all those wishes, with no catch or strings attached. Grab a book, your lunch box and enjoy a full day in the exquisite gardens of this paradise on the Earth. Montrealers can access the outside gardens for free if they have the Montreal Access Card!
What a Beauty!!!! Truly enjoyed it. Waterfalls, Japanese and Chinese garden, colourful and plethora of flowers (with descriptions). Tour guides are available too. You would need min 2 hours to explore the whole garden. It is really large area. I think the tickets are expensive, but if you are a student you would get a discount. Student Id is a must or you can also show a student TTC pass. Parking is around 12 dollars. Carry a map with you so that you won’t get lost.
A huge place with different gardens such as Asian gardens, First Nations Garden, Vegetable garden and many different flora varieties! Try carving out at least half a day to visit the gardens at a comfortable pace and the ones not to be missed are: Greenhouse plants, Chinese garden, Japanese garden and First Nations Garden. I'd highly recommended checking out their light and sound show called "gardens of light" which is organized during the summer months. We really enjoyed this and by far the best 'gardens of light' show I have ever seen!
Wow n mesmerzing ...start with Green house n then all 16 or 17 Gardens. The restaurant bistro at exit serve amazing 5 star limited cold n Grilled menu. For kids upto 12 years please carry stroller as its a long walk. The pictures on webs are old n were for limited 2 months exhibits only so do not look for them.Chinese Garden is good . It is technically not a tourist spot or kid spot with no big plants pictures one see on web but a picnic spot n educational spot. I will never visit this place as tourist ever but as Nature enthusiast every day ...loved it
We were very disappointed of the fact that those monuments were not there. They had been removed in 2013. But, it's a 2nd biggest bonitical garden in the world. The gardens had tons of variety of plants and beautifully decorated. If you have interest in botany; then, I would recommend you of this garden.
The world's 2nd largest botonical gardens includes, Chinese, Japanese, and First Nation's incredible horticultural contributions. Stunning! This is Must see Montreal!!
Visited during Gardens of Light event. Nice place for a safe evening stroll in Montreal. Takes about 2 hours to walk through at a leisurely pace. 80% of the tour is just led lights on trees, and some modest light shows. Ambient music and sound effects accompany every part of your walk and themed accordingly. Japanese and First Nation themes are memorable. The Chinese garden is the highlight. Amazing presentation and beautiful lights. Lots of people but able to maintain good distancing in most parts of the tour. Some areas of the ground are muddy so watch your step.
I went for the lanterns show and the Chinese exhibit was really stunning, the handmade lanterns and decorations were incredible! Unfortunately, the other exhibits weren’t as nice and were mostly just lights on trees. It was still cool to check out and made for a fun, if short, activity
Love the gardens of lights. The walk is around 2km with many interesting and interactive exhibits. The Chinese garden was amazing. Thanks for that Green tea on a rainy evening. Rubber rain boots would be handy if it's raining, specially around trees and bushes. Lights and high quality sound effects are great and kids love it. Sometimes parking might be full. But there's more parking available around 100m from the entrance.
Great place to visit with Kids...so beautiful, serene, scenic and peaceful. Haloween activities for kids and decorated pumpkin's everywhere. Lots of play areas for kids. I'm sure it will be awesome in summer. Was very cold the day we went. Japanese, gardens were really beautiful. The food at the restaurant too was great and inexpensive.
Chinese and Japanese theme garden was nice... rest of the flowers had not in full bloom due to Sep visit maybe... expect long walks
Botanical Garden was great as we got to walk around & experience a lot of different vegetation from different parts of the world. It was such a bliss to walk around nature in its element!
What a great day...loved the Asian gardens the best.
The assortment of plants and trees are very good. It was good fun to roam around and look at the different plants from many different regions. My favourite was the Bonsai section. Can do the whole tour (indoor section - went during the winter months) in an hour and it is self paced. Wasn't too busy when we went. Paid parking on site - quite a lot of them.
It is very nice and peaceful here. It is big here. I didn't get to visit all the gardens due to limited time. I would highly recommend this garden.
We got there early in the morning so as to avoid the large crowds and it was worth it. At the time of typing this out most of the flowers have yet to bloom but we will go back in mid June for more. The Chinese garden is always a site to see. And the smell of the lilac garden is incredible. Just an awesome repose from the everyday in the city.
My wife and I had a great time walking around through all the exhibits. The park is huge, and easy to get lost in if you're not paying attention to the map they have available upon entry. We highly recommend visiting this Garden.
One of the best botanical gardens that I’ve been too. So many beautiful bright flowers to enjoy while strolling around the garden for the day. Definitely worthy of an entire afternoon or morning vs some gardens that only take an hour to complete. There were different areas to explore and each one was filled with fantastic sights and delicious scent. I will be back.
Its a must visit places if you are in montreal. Loved the indoor garden. Best spot was the chinese garden with spectacular view. Would try to go there in the night next time as I have seen photos and it looks amazing.
One of the best botanical garden, a great visit for plant lovers. If they still serve a grill cheese at the restaurant outside of the greenhouse, it is so goood ????????
Lush green garden in fall with splendid colors. The garden area has lots of good bike paths and bike racks. Do not miss the night gardens show, it's amazing! Especially loved the first Nations set up which was both educating and surreal!
Every summer I try to visit once. This year I visited with my aunt that just moved from the US. She totally loved it. She was in awe of their veggies and fruits. They had apples ???? raspberries and grapes and so many variety of vegetables. It wasn’t overcrowded specially in the midst of COVID-19. Everyone had a great distance and some wore masks. It was very relaxing and safe! Hopefully next year they have the Gardens Of Lights which is a big MUST around the end of summer beginning of fall.
I read one of the reviews saying it was a nice place to visit all year long, but maybe the greenhouse was the major point that was described. The Chinese garden and Japanese garden were not as beautiful in winter as they could have been in other seasons. Still, they reminded me of the Huntington Library in Los Angeles. I’m looking forward to see when there’s water in the lakes next time.
I went to the Chinese lantern garden and it shocked me how amazing it was. I wonder how much time they put in it. Check out the other reviews and pictures are fantastic. Good experience and worth your 26 bucks(according to my experience)
The garden is a great place to visit day or night. It feels like you are traveling around the world one step at a time. I had the opportunity to go to the light show at night and honestly the light show added a depth that is missed in the day. It was amazing to see the change from day to night.
I am a huge fan of nature so I had an amazing experience in both areas (open and closed). They have different tickets to pay for each area. I didn’t have to pay going on winter in a snowy day on the open garden because of the naked trees and snow covering everything but it was totally worth it. The chinese garden is still breath taking.
The garden of lights tour at night is awesome!
This was a beautiful experience. The major highlights of the garden are definitely the Chinese and Japanese garden. If it didn't have that section it wouldn't be as exciting for those who don't gravitate to plants and flowers. You can definitely spend a few hours there to air and enjoy the beauty. Plenty is spaces to sit and take in the aroma of the flowers and the view of the gardens.
It's a nice quiet place for a picnic and for anyone who likes flowers or gardening. Also the pictures of the human gardens should be removed as it is misleading because they've not had it since 2013
It’s the biggest and most beautiful botanical garden I’ve ever visited. The are so much beautiful trees plants and flowers. I love its water lilies, lotus, giant hibiscus and … everything.
You will never regret a visit to this Botanical garden. It's full of varieties of plants, vegetables and flowers. It has spots to relax, the waterfall is my favorite place.
It was our first time there. There are so many varieties of flower, plants and all kinds of different vegetables. Beautiful ponds filled with water lilies. There was a heron or crane in the Japanese garden. It was a really nice experience
So much to do. If you like scenery and flowers, I suggest you free up an entire day for this place. There are numerous exhibitions and there are in-out priveleges so you can see a few of them, leave to grab food or take a break, and come back.
The garden is very big and it takes a long time to see every where and it’s not easy to find a washroom and drinking water
On a late winter's day, going to the Botanical Gardens was an excellent idea as a preview to the spring green we'll be soon seeing here in Montréal. There are 6 distinct areas from tropical rainforest to desert cacti, bonsai trees to orchids and ferns; some are from around the world, others cultivated at the gardens. Due to COVID-19, only 60 persons admitted at a reserved hour, however one can easily visit for 2 to 3 hours. Admission: 16.50$ adults 15.50$ seniors 65+ Tickets online
Beautiful sunny morning spent at @espacepourlavie #botanicalgardens …so beautiful! But I was hoping to see more fall colours… just a few trees at this point-I can imagine how beautiful this place is further into autumn. Actually coming back after sundown for the light show! The light show was nice, but I don’t know if I would pay for it on it’s own… happy that our day ticket covered entrance to the light show the same evening.
One of the best garden, beautiful even when overcast. Very easy to access with public transport:
We absolutely adored our visit to the Montreal Botanical Gardens!!! There was so much to see...many different themed areas...we especially loved the Chinese garden area...the bonsais were so amazing! Our lunch was onsite and as you can see from the pictures it was absolutely breathtaking!!! No joke! If you’re in Montreal, go here!
I wish I live close to the garden and get a annual membership. This place is full of wonders. Always going back every year except 2020.
Truly outstanding in every way - the sights can't be beat! The walking paths were clearly outlined so you never felt like you were wandering off. Also, there were plenty of different species of plants that were very appropriate clustered and with esthetics to match it's origins. Highly recommend!
Great place to visit nice looking experience.
PLEASE GO TO THE MONTREAL BOTANICAL GARDEN I can bet this is this the MOST peaceful place in Montreal. You can feel your lung being clean with so much vegetation! Go when you're stress and you'll get out way calm
As usual very impressive! Everytime you go you discover something new. Very beautiful.
This is the second time I went there. Definitely a must see, make sure to bring water and sunscreens during a summer time.
Garden was very nice! Lots of beautiful plants/flowers/trees! Even Japanese koi is here!
A beautiful day trip for my husband and I!! Definitely recommend good walking shoes, we spent a good few hours walking around looking at all of the gardens. There are little shuttles going around but they were always full so I would bank on walking a majority of the the.
Excellent place with beautiful gardens and landscapes.
Really oriented on flowers and trees. Not a lot of kids entertainment, but kids like to walk and run everywhere, look for ducks, fishs, etc. That was a great family day, including the lunch and ice cream!
Had a great time visiting the botanical garden light show this year! Very beautiful and recommend going if you never have! Awesome place to visit with friends and enjoy a night evening, very packed so recommend going later it thins out a bit. Would’ve been a 5 star but it is a little bit on the shorter side.
the amount of effort and precision that goes into the upkeep of the gardens is remarkable. If you life in Montreal and have not been here I think that is absolutely ridiculous and you should go right away. Its truly stunning and you can wander around for hours and see new things and find new areas. I think this is such a cute date spot, or a place for excellent photography. I went at the beginning of September and I look forward to seeing it other times of the year.
Well designed botanical garden with good flow and many different plants to discover
Amazing place! So much to see and experience! I was there in July and enjoyed being near water lilies, lilies and fruit trees. Also, I learned a lot about medicinal and poisonous plants. Played with coy fish in a pond in the Japanese Garden. Thank you to all who take such a good care of this beautiful Montreal Botanical Garden.????????????
One of the most attractive part of Montreal ..Must visit! Thousands of different plants and cute little stores in it ..
They have a course route and if you love seeing various types of plants and such its a nice place to visit otherwise I would suggest other attractions.
Nice place to visit, the Chinese gardens are the best
One of the exquisite and pristine place to stroll around in Montreal. Though we could spend an entire day here, Chinese garden is the most attractive and favorite place for our family. During winter, they have light show in the garden. Day time entry will be free if you book it for light show. The staffs and their effort for the garden maintenance are highly appreciated.
Wow! What a beautiful place. You can easily spend the better part of a day here. The Chinese garden is simply amazing. Parts of the Chinese garden are not accessible until the end of July 2018 due to path reconstruction, but you can still have beautiful views. Arrive at opening time (9am) if you want to take pictures that aren't full of people you don't know.
The themed gardens were super cute but for a botanical garden, their gardens on the pathway were wilting and/or dead
Gardens are very nice. Chinese is exceptional. Gardens at west entrance are also outstanding. Don't understand why you can't buy general admission ticket off your mobile phone (and they even offer a QR code to their mobile app at ticket office which is totally useless as you can't buy general admission on it) -- this created an unnecessary line of over 15 folks who only wanted to buy general admission ticket. The Japanese garden needs tons of work -- not extraordinary. Lots of construction noise in all directions dampens the spirit. Tons of hard working employees and volunteers at the garden and their good work shows..
The best botanic gardens I have seen. There are dedicated Japanese, Chinese, and First Nations gardens, as well as areas of rose garden and a large arboretum. The alpine garden was a highlight
Visited the gardens in late November 2019 when the outdoor gardens were closed for the season due to the cold weather, but the greenhouses are still very extensive and absolutely beautiful. The tropical, desert, and asian plants were great. Absolutely gorgeous.
Don’t know, for 25$, it is boring. The couple place maybe yep, but for whole , I am not sure. Parking is 12,5$:( Ps someone posted the giant women with waterfall, don’t believe, the park hasn’t it.
I came here on the hottest day of the summer with my mother and we had a great time walking through the different exhibits and appreciating all the beautiful well kept gardens. There is also a trolley that takes you through the gardens. Which is great considering it was blazing out that day. The insect exhibit was great. As a huge geek, I was able to really enjoy geeking out. I can’t wait to go back here. (During fall when it’s less hot)
Very expansive garden with a lot of different sections/themes. There's a rose garden, greenhouses for various climates in the world, shade garden, toxic plants garden, Japanese garden, Chinese garden, etc. You can easily spend several hours wandering around and it's only about $20 a person, less if you're a resident of Quebec. We attended the Gardens of Light event which was the same price as the regular Botanical Gardens ticket and also included access to the gardens during the day, so essentially you're getting a good portion of it for free. Gardens of Light was a very beautiful event. Highly recommend visiting the Botanical Gardens if you come to Montreal. 10/10 will come again on my next trip.
It's a big area with plenty of greens and flowers. Tickets for a family of four is 60 dollars roughly. They have free parking outside and it's enough. Inside its divided into different areas like Japanese, Chinese and Indian gardens. The Chinese by far is the most impressive and beautiful. Perfect spots to get those camera perfect pics. The shapes of animals from grass and leaves is not a permanent feature but I guess during expos and competitions. We thought we would get to see it and we're disappointed. It's well maintained though and the staff are friendly. Bathrooms are available and they are clean enough.
Nicely designed. Only got to see the Chinese and Japanese gardens and they’re both absolutely spectacular! Washrooms were also accessible in both gardens.
By far the coolest place in Montreal. The garden is huge and so beautiful. Each garden had such an amazing layout. Could spend hours here! A must see place.
Gorgeous and endless! We didn't even manage to see the full extent of the beautiful gardens! We even went before everything had bloomed yet it was one of the most beautiful gardens I've ever been in! Great architecture and biological diversity. The greenhouse was breathtaking.
Beautiful spot for seeing different flora from around the world. The China exhibit was phenomenal.
Very nice place for a relaxing stroll or outing. The jardin des lumières is always fun and worth the experience (albeit it gets busy). In the spring the tulips are beautiful! But just be prepared that there isn't a lot else that's in bloom at that time. Also quite nice in winter.
I can't overstate how great an attraction the Botanical Garden is. Between the fauna, the amazing themed gardens and the countless flowers and trees, this ever-changing haven of calm of the city still manages to surprise me even after dozens of visits. Come by early morning before the crowds for a peaceful visit, or come in the afternoon and enjoy an ice cream cone during the hot summer days.
Really good place to disconnect from the city life. You are totally immersed in a new location in each room. The colors and the smells really brings us to another continent, another country, related to the plant’s original habitat. All little bit short but in general great! There is even a gift shop where you can buy plants :) . . . . Jcgn????
The Garden of Lights festival is on till October 31st. Totally worth seeing! A very nice family outing. There also us a Halloween section. However, the back end of the path is not well lit.
Beautiful Japanese garden lanterns display. The flower gardens were bare and there weren't any sculptures ...it would be beautiful in July!! but we really enjoyed the beauty we saw.
First visit tickets are 21 for non Quebec resident and 16 for Quebec residents. Students 15 and 12 for Quebec residents. The garden is too big could have more things and could be more interesting. It is huge so have enough time to walk thru. If it is too hot bring things for the sun. There is a caffe if you need to eat. They give you a map make sure to read it.
