A wonderful reconstruction of the original Jesuit enclave that was established to convert the Huron to Christianity. There are many buildings, including 2 Huron long houses. I'm not religious, but still enjoyed the reconstruction, and the museum.
Great historical visit We went as a senior group and got a good discount. Audio guide was a bit "touchy" but invaluable as we toured. A good place for families.
Nice tour! Some parts of the museum and outdoor museum were closed though.
(Translated) nice to empathize with in the pioneering days the present nicely dressed employees can tell fascinating about what there is to see, worth a visit (Original) leuk om je in te leven in de pionierstijd de aanwezige leuk uitgedoste medewerkers kunnen ok boeiend vertellen over wat er te zien is , een bezoekje waard
Great day!
This is a quite good place to discover how people lived 400 years ago! You have almost all information on the map. Only self guided tour available due to Covid.
The staff here is friendly and helpful. Always a great time with the whole family. The crafts and interactive features are fantastic.
Very interesting. Authentic recreation of a past era with lots of things to learn and discover. Do not forget to visit the sister site (at the lake) and you can benefit from discounted tickets if you do both. Highly recommended!
Love love love this place. Have been going for years. It is the start of the Christmas season for us. Absolutely beautiful with all the candles and the buildings decorated in the old style for Christmas. As you wander from building to building you will be delighted with the different styles and sounds of the live groups that perform there. Lots of sing a longs and arts and crafts and demonstrations. Truly an old fashioned Christmas. Your kids will love it!
Excellent
Very well put together large settlement replication. Since this was built in the 1960s as a recreation of the original, nothing is off limits kids can explore and learn about the settlement without barriers.
Wonderful experience - lots of history and the staff are wonderful. Stop by as you will enjoy.
Good historical site. Worth visiting. Just don't go on a super hot day. If you do, bring lots of water with you.
Cool Native Village. Great history and staff are dressed in period costume. Neat place to check out with the kids.
Very nice staff dressed with old time clothes and tell you all you wanted to know about the history, very nice museum.
A place of prayer and remembrance.
Excellent historic site for First Light
A must see if you are visiting Midland and area!!!
Great fun place to visit

Verry cool place ????. Verry interesting about the Olden days
This place is great so much h more than I remember. Whole family had a great time. Knowledgeable staff made it even better. The whole experience was great.
(Translated) Very nice place. (Original) Très belle place.
Great place to dive into the history about Ontario’s first European Community, very friendly staff, they are dressed it the costumes to ensure you have the right experience of history.
Exceptional facility, programs and dining ...Our heritage on display for us all to enjoy
Great place to see one of Canada's oldest ruins dating back to the 1640's.
Very interesting place. Lots of history from the natives and first pioneers.
Very nice place. Was not expecting it to be that big.
We really loved this place, it helped us to understand better the dynamics between First Nation and Europeans settlers. History is crucial to better understand the present, to get an opinion based on real facts. Very nice experience.
Beautiful ambience and experience. Close to Christmas is best time to go.
Stunning venue, and atmosphere. Attended a wedding here recently, and it was lovely, such a great historic venue.
Simply awesome! Very well laid out and simple to navigate. You actually feel like you’ve gone back in time. There’s a great little museum to top it off. In the end, for the price, well worth the trip , an incredible value and just an excellent, excellent experience!
The best historical place we've been in Ontario! Thanks to Sainte-Marie's team and all volunteers who recreated this place and keep its spirit and unique beauty.
It's quiet and clean. Brilliant video prior to exploring the village, which eventually directly immerses you into your journey. Loved that the village felt lived in and there are people in costume to give you a realistic view of life here during settlement. You might even get to try an old technique! Upon exiting, there is a quaint bistro before the museum entrance, with a patio overlooking the village. DO NOT SKIP THE MUSEUM! Legitimately the most beautiful museum I've ever seen. Lighting like rays of sun through trees, a pond, and a skylight. Wood organically surrounds you. You'll forget you're inside!
It was awesome the staff was very knowledgeable.
This is the best museum/historical site with the most to view. It will take the longest to get through as well. Plan for a longer day with good shoes... it's worth the trip :) I will plan to eat elsewhere though because as a family of 8, we can't afford those kind of prices. Not a great restaurant for families... maybe a date night where you aren't concerned about the cost.
Very informative and great staff!
We attended First Light. It was amazing, there was so much to see and do. Great folk music, crafts for kids and tones of vendors. This was such a fun Canadian Christmas experience. We will definary add this to our yearly traditions, and at $10 plus food donation it is very affordable.
Great tour and information.
First Light Very nice with all the lanterns. Good place for familys
Nice place
It is interesting
Lots to see and do on a sunny day. Start your journey with a video and don't skip the museum at the end. The trail to the church provides a nice detour.
Beautiful place. My 6YO was super happy saying: Mom, I loved we were able to enter to the history. Food in the cafeteria is good also. I totally recommend it.
Great family area. Lots to do.

Exceptional historic site.
This place was supper cool. I went for 1st Light and really enjoyed it!
So much history. Worth visiting.
Excellent family experience! My youngest loved the electronic "story" option, and my eldest enjoyed talking to the people working there.
Fun place to visit full of great history and interesting utems from the past
Very informative and interesting. Lots of open areas for your little one to explore, play, run and learn. My three year old was very intrigued and impressed. Easy to maneuver my double stroller through entire experience. Highly recommend for adults and children alike.
Wonderful visit! Terrific staff and an amazing historical attraction
How does settlements in the huron look like? How do they live, what's the struggle? There is also a very interesting museum of the era and a bit of history. Very very interesting.
O/O is important...visit the office at martyr shrine then cross the street to walk the site at Saint Marie Among the Hurons - you will understand why
Beautiful place, loved the historic artifacts.
The best lets stop here on my way from visiting home ... the staff is amazing really enjoy it everytime I go .
Location was great however food in restaurant was very poor and overpriced.
You have to go here! Rarely do I get to say that in my reviews. Hands down one of the best places you can go with the kids in the family all ages will enjoy the amazing exhibits and authentic feeling this of this location. Be transported back into time and experience a part of Canadian history like you've never before. The staff is great and friendly the location is clean and has great food as well. Lots of parking and picnic tables and easy access.
A great place to stop by for an indoor and outdoor museum experience! I learned a lot about the history of Canada and the history of this region! The museum has put some lovely touches to bring some life to the history. The outdoor museum has thoughts that are clearly paved to take you through the journey of the missionary settlement. The indoor museum is more broad and takes you through the history of the French coming to Canada.
Had a wonderful networking meeting at the restaurant. Delicious meal of traditional tortiere. Warm atmosphere and pleasant staff.
This is a novel spot in Canadian history and I highly recommend visiting here if you want to gain an appreciation for how early European settlement into Canada worked. I believe that any history buff will enjoy themselves here and I think most kids who have parents who encourage them to learn will get something from a visit here. I give this place five stars in spite of the fact that I feel like the whole experience needs some updating. The reason I choose to keep my review positive is because the main ideas and concepts are very well preserved and this place will help people of all ages scratch the surface of 17th century colonial life in Canada. Overall, the staff were very affable and the experience was pleasant, but not overdone. I would budget between two to four hours for this place depending on if you're going to eat in and spend time at the inside museum. Lastly I also wanted to say that we found this place was very affordable. The food wasn't over priced, nor was the admission.
Wonder ambiance with the candle light reflecting off the snow at first light.
Great place to learn. It was built over the old foundations as accurately as possible. The workers are very informative and are dressed up to play their part. Worthwhile to see
(Translated) The reconstruction of the village is very well done and the museum very interesting and informative. A good time with the family, ideal for children over 6 years old. (Original) La reconstitution du village est très bien faite et le musée très intéressant et instructif. Un bon moment en famille, idéal pour les enfants de + 6 ans.
Finally, I have a better idea of what I learned in Social Studies. Great place
(Translated) A place steeped in history, you can easily feel the harshness of life in the days of the pioneers and the Hurons. Truly an informative tour ... (Original) Un lieu chargé d'histoire, on sent bien la rudesse de la vie à l'époque des pionniers et des hurons. Vraiment une visite instructive...
(Translated) Well organized and lots of history (Original) Bien organizado y mucha historia
Beautiful historic site. Good place to visit for a view of some of Canada's Christian history and the life of the native dwellers
Great little piece of history. Summer visits are always great with all the people around in costumes giving information and doing reenactments
Beautiful. The priest was very kind.
Have only visited in the summer but when I was here it was a great experience! So much to see and do and we learned a lot. Great for kids too. Well worth the drive and highly recommended. Very kind and knowledgable staff too!
I love First light event here
nice place but to commercialized.
We went as a family and totally enjoyed it. We will definitely be back! A must see for a great learning experience! You will come out with a better appreciation of our history!
Enjoyed looking into the past. Very friendly staff. Made bread on a stick. Also went during Thanksgiving weekend so they had local artists and farmers selling their things. It was nice.
(Translated) A place where one can realize how much these holy Martyrs loved Jesus and this people! (Original) Lieu où on peut réaliser à quel point ces saints Martyrs aimaient Jésus et ce peuple!
Wonderful place to know a little bit more of our history
(Translated) A special place because of the history of Canada and the beginnings of the evangelization of the original inhabitants of America (Original) Szczególne miejsce ze względu na historię Kanady oraz początki ewangelizacji pierwotnych mieszkańców Ameryki
Definitely worth visiting if you are in the region. The place is a painstaking recreation of the first Jesuit settlement in the region. One gets an audio tour of the place which is sufficiently detailed. There are actors on the site who demonstrate what life in the settlement looked life. There is some focus on the indigenous history as well. One overall caveat is that everything is largely pro-European.
Very colorful experience for children. Nice place to spend a day and learn some history.
We attended First Lights this weekend after some rave reviews from friends and neighbours. I must say it was very interesting for our first visit, but maybe not all it was cracked up to be. All of the talents there were great, the food served at the outdoor cafe was excellent! We had the tortiere! I think the main drawback was the sheer number of people in attendance and the fact that it made it extremely difficult to move from building to building. If I have any advice, go early! We were lucky and got there 15 minutes before it opened, snagging the last of 10 parking spots right on site. As the evening progressed, the lineups grew exponentially, not to mention the shuttle waits at the local Walmart were over an hour long according to my Brother-in-Law.
Such a fun place to visit!
Historic sight with a lot of information about the first settlers in Canada .
Still interesting even after all the years. School trip 40 years ago and I still learned more. Enjoyed a quick lunch as well.
Getting expensive
2 of my ancestors lived/worked here in the 1630's. Eustache Lambert and Guillaume Couture were both laymen for the Jesuits here and elsewhere. Both went on to do many important functions in New France, such as exploring, settling the south shore across from Quebec City, defense, etc. It was great to see the artifacts that were found on-site and know that my ancestors probably handled some of them. Great experience and very helpful guides.
(Translated) A journey back in time to the time when the region was settled. Historically very interesting. (Original) Eine Zeitreise in die Zeit der Besiedelung der Region. Geschichtlich hoch interessant.
Like stepping back in time
Pretty cool, well maintained.

Excellent day-trip. Staff are fantastic, especially the candle maker and the blacksmith. Lots of great history and things to see and do.
A great must visit historical place. Everything is explained in very detail. Particular audio device helps in getting the details of the place. Everything either mainyanined or reconstructed in a very detailed manner and staffs are really helpful in explaining everything in details.
I hadn't been here in over 40 years. Made the drive to find that it is now a great historic site documenting one of the oldest settlements in Ontario. Well worth the trip.
Very impressed! We reached this attraction quickly from Toronto and there was lots to see and do even on a wet, rainy day. Interesting movie provides the background. A few hands-on activities and plenty of staff on hand, but we also had enough privacy that we felt we could explore the place on our own. Reconstructed historical buildings felt wonderfully authentic. The combined First Nations / European narrative at this site is nuanced and fascinating and made for a great start to our study of both the Wendat people and the early European settlement in Canada.
An important place to visit to learn about colonial and indigenous cultural. Was there researching our the ancestral stories of our French settler relations.
Super!
Nice place, people friendly, but they close 5pm And u Need 2hours to see everything so make sure that u arrive there before 3pm
Worth a visit when you are visiting the. Martyrs shrine
Great site, spend a day if you can
Always educational fun learning!
Whata a great time visiting Historical Canada!
Went here a few years ago and really enjoyed it. This was one of the original communities in the area and is mentioned in most Canadian history books so it was really cool to visit.
Wonderful day out. Great food in the restaurant. You must try the Three Sisters Soup.
Very nice visit. Lots of history
Excelent Church
Interesting and educational historic site. The settlement structures are rebuilt to give a sense of how the settlers and natives lived at the time. Cast members were very helpful and knowledgeable when answering questions. I recommend using the free audio guide wands for the best experience.
Great learning experience for the kids
I went for first light and it was absolutely magical!
interesting.
A great day spent at First Light. It is a hidden gem. Fantastic music, very wise staff and super nice. the longhouses were amazing, the fireworks were top shelf!
Beautiful place to go with friends and family.
A very nice historical replica and a museum.
Best experience ever
Fake place.
Excellent recreation of the original settlement founded by French Jesuits. Spent several hours touring the site.
One of my favorite destinations
Went for the first light festival. So beautiful. But parking was not an option. We were turned around and sent to the local Walmart to jump on a shuttle. Don't try to park there during the festival just go to Walmart for the shuttle.
Fascinating. Very instructive and entertaining. Definitely worth the visit.
Very nice self guided tour. Wish there was more to read in each building to help flesh out the info on the back of the maps but still a nice experience.
Very unique, lots of history
Interesting recreated historical settlement. It must take a long time to set up those lights. Be aware of the cannon fire... otherwise it will scare the bejesus out of you. More signage/plaques/maps would be useful.
Educational, fun excursion for the family. There was a Thanksgiving market there, adding to the endearment.
Impressive and huge compound in a short time span 1638 - 1748 to spread The Word.
Great historical site. Fun for all.
I went here not knowing what to expect. I felt very safe with the precautions they are taking to keep us safe.. The site it self was very interesting and alot of fun. The normal reenactments were not there but we were told all about them. Them smell of wood smoke took us back in time and it all seemed so accurate. My teen agers even enjoyed it..
Very informative
Great history and realistic historical facility! Very knowledgeable staff! Highly recommend!
its gonna be great
Educational and fun for all ages. I’d go again.
(Translated) Nice way to imagine yourself in the initial phase of the colonization of Canada. (Original) Leuke manier om je in te leven in de beginfase van de kolonisatie van Canada.
The light festival in December is gorgeous. The church was open for few days at this time. Gun fires, Canon fires, good music and snow, makes for a wonderful evening. Some freat display of the history and culture of first nations around here. There are some nice organic products to shop as well but even without this it is Worth a visit.
First Light was amazing!! We look forward to returning in the spring for more learning and fun.
Well worth the visit! Much to learn no matter what your nationality or denomination!
My daughter and her husband go every year. This was my first time. I want to go during the day to really see this park
Beautiful ???? ???? ????
This place is incredible, and saddening. Huge place with lots of activities for the kids.
Beautiful place.
Historical & tourist friendly, you can roam around in your pace. It's worth watching the movie, I suggest staying till it's done, it's worth your time. For you ladies out there, yes they have a souvenir shop...????
Amazing experience. Definitely will visit again!
Great to see how people lived in those days. Lovely views, kids enjoyed the experience
Super cool piece of history! Spent the afternoon here with my girlfriend and had a blast just wandering through the old buildings.
Was a little boring going out of season
This place is such fun for entire families. Definitely worth the drive to get there. Lots of interactive things to do.
Educational for young and old
I highly recommend visiting this place, it's amazing how it gets you involved and transports you in time. Very entertaining, we enjoyed walking on our own and listening to the audio guide. The staff is really friendly and knowledgable. The museum is well put together, we were impressed by the quality considering is not a big one. No wifi but parking is free. I would definitely come back to participate in the activities offered in the summer program.
Enjoyed the First Light Festival it’s a great way to see this historic site.
Amazing
Beautiful
Historical land
The candles for the First Light events are gorgeous.
(Translated) Recommend to visit (Original) Recomendo a visitar
Highly recommend...there is something wonderful about learning about the history of this country and being able to see first hand how they lived is amazing!
The First Light was amazing
Amazing place to visit.
Creative reconstruction and a living experience.
Sainte-Marie among the Hurons is a wonderful outdoor museum that recreates the history of First Nations, Francophones and Anglophones in the region. You can visit forgeries, churches, bakeries and many other intriguing places. During the pandemic, you must follow a certain path and it's mandatory to wear masks even when you are outside.
Feels like home
Amazing trip. Staff welcomed question and provided information promptly.
A must go to destination
Interesting
It was ok they did a really bad job at hiding all the modern lights and locks they have so it was really immersion breaking
Historic site with people dressed in period clothing 1839-1849.
Worth visiting this place. It was a nice experience and friendly staff.
My favorite place for local history or propaganda however you see it. I enjoy this place so much I've been ever yr for 25yrs.
First Light 2021 was beautiful as always, many wonderful vendors, well done????????????
Awesome historical site! Lots to do and see, great trip destination if you are interested in Canada's history. The staff are great and the historical actors are awesome! Wish the visitor map was slightly more detailed. The restaurant was awesome with some tasty food! Would be a great place for an event. Unfortunately when we were there, there was a lacrosse event and therefore a bunch of youths who had no interest in the historical site.
Fascinating look into our past. The most remote proper french settlement in North America. One that relatively peacefully co-existed with the surrounding native groups as well.
Great experience, had a great day with my grand daughters
This is an amazing living museum that chronicles the history of the Jesuit's and the Wendat near the Georgian Bay. They have some really cool events there throughout the year, including the First Light festival near Christmas time. An absolute must see while in the area.
The people were very nice, the buildings are beautiful, the fireworks were amazing and the first light was very beautiful
Went here with my boyfriend thinking it would be very boring, but to my surprise, loved this place! Felt like I time-traveled. Tips: dont skip the theatre room and watch the presentation before you go in, that way you will appreciate the whole tour a lot better.
Very lovely historical site with friendly and knowledgeable staff. Good place to come with kids and take awesome photos and learn something new about history. There is also a museum and a gift shop.
Loved it informative hand's on it was good
Fabulous historical site
For visit on Friday 13th July, 2018. Arrived a bit later in the day and would very much suggest you may wish to give yourself at least two or three hours here. Great work on the recreation of the Village. Information displays and the staff are amazing - friendly and knowledgeable.
(Translated) In itself an interesting place that vividly depicts one aspect of missionary history - because it is recreated in a natural ambience. I found the presentation film in the center strange, lamenting the deaths of some Jesuits, while hardly mentioning that thousands of First Nations people (Indians) perished from diseases imported by missionaries and their culture was irretrievably wiped out. There was talk of quasi good "savages" (because converted) and irreversible. In the exhibition area, too, the spatial separation between "white and red" is clearly evident. It was historically like that, is a fact and can no longer be changed - however, nowhere on site and under the symbols of Christian charity would I have noticed that there was something like repentance or regret or even the admission of guilt regarding what had happened.
Very interesting. Worth the drive for an educational day. Clean facility and well maintained.
Lots of historic energy involved with this place. Very group friendly, overnight stay for school groups and other groups. A definite learning adventure and experience for everybody, young or old
Went in September after school had started and it was pretty much empty. Basically you just watched the video and then walked around with the map. There wasn't any staff around really to answer questions or anything.
Really well done museum. The employees are knowledgeable and helpful.
It was very interesting although there were a lot of places we couldn't walk because of Covid Protocols.
Informative and fun
Great evening out for young and old. Terrain was likely rough for the elderly to get to Shrine.
interesting, historical place
Fun place to take the kids and learn a little local history.
(Translated) Magnificent historical site on the French cohabitation and the Hurons in the 17th century. Un musée très intéressant rempli d'artefacts de 1639 lorsque Champlain arriva dsur les lieux en 1615.
Wonderful experience and loved the historical recreation of the area along with the 20 mins video explaining the history impartially! The live demonstrations are amazing better than lot of places. The medical room and kitchen are the best! Love the surprise after the video! Really cool.
Have only been for First Light, but it was awesome! Great for families. Amazing fireworks!
(Translated) Very good and there are several guides to explain all the history of the buildings. (Original) Très bien et il y a plusieurs guides pour expliquer tout l'historique des bâtiments.
Went to the First Light festival with partner and her boys. An amazing living experience documenting the shared history of early European settlers and First Nations. We all had great fun. The dinner and drinks were a bit pricey but in support of this historical initiative, I didn't mind paying a bit more when I thought of that as donation.
A romantic night at First Lights. 5000 lanterns lighting up pathways everywhere, great prople and food
Great place to take the kids
Fantastic!!!! For all ages....thousands of candles lit up every were..crafts for young and old....sugar cookies...its definitely an event you should not miss...
This place gives you a window into the settlement of the first European settlers in this area and makes me feel like I know Canada's history a bit better now. I definitely recommend it!
My once a year stop that I make in the winter.
It's always great to visit. Like going back in time. And the working forge is pretty amazing
A must see Plan to spend half day. This is total immersion 400 years ago, as tghe pionneer came at the contact of the first nation. This was a handfull man bringing a lot of change on the continent. The experience is so strong, so well enacted by the personal, the buildings so well maintained and museum so rich that this will be one of your best experience in North America ever. I have been here 5 times and will certainly continue to come in the future. A real Canadian experience.
Attended a friends wedding here. Beautiful little spot for dinner and a party.
First Light was a very illuminating experience. From the time we entered the Pioneer village the scene was immersed in the sights, sounds and smells of the Christmas's celebrated so long ago. Very worthwhile.
We have gone to celebrate First Light as a family tradition for 10 years now and we love it every time!
Great place to learn about local and Canadian colonial history.
Great learning and cultural experiences!
(Translated) Very nice and unusual place. I advise you to bring your children. Very nice and unusual place. I advise you to come with your children. (Original) Очень приятное и необычное место . Советую привезти ваших детей. Very nice and unusual place. I advise you to come with your children.
Very special place. The Jesuits who run the centre are very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. There are many places to have a picnic with the family as well as quiet areas to pray and meditate. A wonderful place to bring the family and even more so, if you add a trip to Sainte Marie across the road.
This fortified missionary is a wonderful look back into the history of the interactions between the indigenous nations and colonists. To see how life mingled between the two diverse cultures was very interesting. An incredible opportunity to check out an important era in our history.
Peace and joy I found here ???????????????????no where else
Neat to see how people lived in the 1600s.
My family enjoyed the artifacts in the museum on site, as well as the beauty of the Mass altars in the Fort.
We attended the First Lights special event and were impressed with the decor, atmosphere and how well organized and helpful we’re the volunteers and staff . We will return to visit the site on a “regular” day to see it again!
A nice way to spend an hour or two where you can learn about some of the history of Canada. The staff at the site is very knowledgeable and add to the experience. For the cost of this self guided tour it's worth it if you're in the area.
(Translated) It is a place full of history about Canadian culture. (Original) Es un lugar lleno de historia sobre la cultura Canadiense.
We went for the Candle Light service. The church had a harpist and it was amazing. It is reasonably priced, and just beautiful.
Will definitely go back
I was there in the mid 70’s I was amazed then and it hasn’t changed much. I hope they still have the movie and the wall that opens up to the outside.
People can know about the early people. Their living, their clothing, their utensils and how they protect themselves against animal attacks.
Even during covid times the kids had a great time
I love history
Amazing
Interesting history
Crazy guide very enjoyable morning!!
We were very surprised how beautiful this was. Staff were so interesting and engaging. Lovely in the autumn with fires in every building and the smell of woodsmoke. Mysterious and thought-provoking.
Very informative and interesting exhibit. I learned new information about the interaction of the Europeans with the First Nations. This was especially poignant given that we are celebrating Canada 150 this year.
Super Interesting place. So much history...and so well presented. Head sets highly recommended. Learned a lot about early days of settlement in Canada and relations with the first nations.
My daughter and I visited. This is more than a museum. It's a real experience. You can feel how people lived in that time and understand so much about this important history of settlement and colonization.
(Translated) Very informative, well done ... (Original) Très instructif, bravo...
A true part of our heritage. Very engaging and interesting presentation and historical accuracy. Really cool settlement!
It was a good experience for kids to see what happened in the history of Canada.
A look back to life in the 1630 to 1650 time frame
First Light is an event you must experience. 6,000 candles in a beautiful and rustic outdoor setting, just wow!! Dress warmly. The outbuildings are not heated. I recommend hot paws for inside your mitts. Music crafts, a few Christmas treats, but really the simplicity of this event is what makes it awe-inspiring. And if you feel like shopping, you will find a nice selection of artisan products indoors. Entrance is $10/person Free parking on site or park at Walmart and take the shuttle over. My teenagers loved it!!
Thank you to all people who made the first light festival another great one
Wonderful experience, amazing restaurant
Nice food. Good service.
Really interesting place with great displays.
(Translated) Great facility and its history! (Original) Super obiekt i jego historia!
Very enlightening presentation.
The pioneer village lets us have a better understanding about the people's lives of early ages. The staff are also helpful and informative.
Went to First Light event in December and it was amazing! Dress warm and have fun outside with thousands of candles and lights.
Good well maintained illustrative tour guides.
Nice to see a part of history from 17th century with employees or students dressed same like that time.
Always something to see at Sainte Marie.
Amazing place. Went with kids 4 and 6 years old. Kids love it. Adults love the place too
Great
Great history. Feel bad for the treatment the indigenous people received. Getting run off their lands and literally were hunted into almost extinction.
The kids loved it. We could have spent another day just exploring all it had to offer.
Interesting and historical? Very well presented. A small window into the lives of the early pioneers and the first nations they lived alongside.

Very historical and authentic. You get a feel of being back in time. They are working gard at keeping itthe way it was in the 17th century, the plants, the few animals they had is what they would have hadback then. Very interesting !I would recommend visiting there full of rich history, and culture.
My family and I go to First Light almost every year and it's always so beautiful!
Awsome
Fantastic history. Excellent displays and reenactments. Makes you fully appreciate how hard times people had.
(Translated) We loved the place! (Original) On a beaucoup aimé le lieu !

Went to first light, was beautiful and humbling, it is important to look back and see how far we have come, good and bad.
Wonderful place to learn some history very historical
My dad used to ring me to the "Indian village " I have so many fond memories.
This was absolutey fascinating and the staff and reenactors were great and friendly.
Great place to visit with the kids
Nice history.
Great place for field trips for kids wanting to learn about history!
Great place.
Good history lesson.
Lots of History!!
Great exhibition explain the way of life of the Huron people and how the European people came to Canada and tried to convert the Huron people to Christianity. Wonderful reconstruction of the fort, houses and buildings of the time showing how the people lived..
First light was amazing!!!!
Very impressive, helps to get a good visual idea of history.
Very well kept, greenery all over the place, the restaurant is licensed and they have a very comfortable patio to sit and enjoy the sun, food was surprisingly good, they don’t show it, but there is a good, standard variety of dishes, and they are very accommodating and fast, we also went to martyr shrine and the conservation area, I wish they have a one ticket for all places, rather than pay $5 here, $10 there etc. A day pass or something would be nice, but I would totally recommend it for a weekend getaway, you can finish in Barrie where there’s a nice beach area by the bay with some inflatable toboggans for kids ????
Interesting place to visit, you can learn about the place and a bit of history about some of the First Nations. You get a chance to try out Lacrosse as well!
(Translated) At the beginning of the 70s and I was able to enjoy a visit in French quite instructive and more lively than the visit carried out with an audio guide in French otherwise the site is quite interesting on a symbolic level but also on a religious historical level (Original) Au début des années 70 et j'ai pu profiter d'une visite en français tout-à-fait instructive et plus vivante que la visite effectuée avec un audioguide en en français sinon le site est tout à fait intéressant sur un plan symbolique mais aussi historique religieux
Exactly as advertised, and fascinating stuff to see and learn about. No matter your religion, don't miss the Martyrs Shrine across the road. Worth the admission, no complaints.
Interesting place. Would be good to have more from indigenous perspective but better than before. Good response to COVID and great people working there
(Translated) Highly interesting, visit is worthwhile. Recommend to use the audio guide. (Original) Hoch interessant, Besuch lohnt sich. Empfehle den Audio Guide zu nutzen.

Love going here I used to be a security guard there many moons ago. This year I got a park pass for my birthday cant wait to be able to use it all the time and go to events
Loved the interactive history
We went really early in the year, and had a good time. Not too many people around, so we didn't have to dodge many people. Lunch was amazing, definitely recommend the on-site restaurant
First Light is a must see
Amazing tourist attraction.... The staff dress in clothing that is reminiscent of the time that the site is representing... Lots of hands-on stuff and DON'T FORGET YOUR CAMERA... The staff are very flexible about pictures....
(Translated) Very beautiful historical site (Original) Tres beau site historique
Interpreters were very good. The kids really enjoyed it
Our family visited in August. We spent a few hours at Sainte-Marie Among the Hurons, learning about how religion tried to change views of the Aboriginals living in the town. This provided information for a lively family discussion afterwards with our teenagers. We enjoyed the waterway presentation with the canoe in the lock channel and the cooking talk. Cooking bannock over the fire was a nice treat. Stepping back through time, seeing the grave sites, the animals, and learning about the way of life of Jesuit priests and the Wendat people was educational and fun. Definitely see the video at the beginning of your tour. We were happy to see patches available in the gift shop as souvenirs for our camping blankets. There is a trail to walk to get to Martyr's Shrine from Sainte-Marie. Be aware there is an admission to get close to the church. You can still take photos from the base of the trail.
Amazing during First Light event. Great music.
What a great experience

(Translated) The history of the Hurons, one of the tribes of the first nations, as the Native Americans are officially called, and the Jesuits, is made accessible here in an open-air museum. An audio guide, which is also available in German, provides information about life at that time. The 20 minute video you should look at before, it makes it clear what problems the two different groups had with each other.
Very interesting "living" museum. It is recommended to visit it in combination with the Huronia museum.
Educational and historical.

(Translated) Very nice museum in a rebuilt fort of the French settlers. Opening times 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Original) Sehr schönes Museum in einem wieder aufgebauten Fort der französischen Siedler. Öffnungszeiten 10 bis 17.00 Uhr.
Went for First Light ~ beautiful to walk through, talented vendors, entertaining musicians...
They are deceitful in saying it closes at 4pm. It closes at 3pm and is only open a few days a week. If you drive for 2 hours and arrive at 3:07 they will lock you out. Poor advertisement and poor customer service.
(Translated) Very exciting and interesting facility. With the audio guide you can walk through the grounds and get a lot of interesting information. It is worth a visit and something for young and old. You should definitely plan enough time. At the beginning you can watch a movie. This takes about 20 minutes then follows the tour. Under 2 hours, it is hardly possible. So be there early enough the grounds will close at 5pm. (Original) Sehr spannende und interessante Anlage. Mit den Audioguide kann man durch das Gelände laufen und bekommt viele interessante Informationen. Es ist einen Besuch Wert und etwas für jung und alt. Man sollte unbedingt genügend Zeit einplanen. Definitely worth a visit. Well laid out and presented. Informative & interesting.
Very interesting site great history
Really nice reconstruction of the French Catholic mission in the area and with an attached museum. The focus is on the French mission that was established there for 10 years. With also some Huron life exhibits in both the museum and a long house.
This is a must to visit when in Midland.
The site is a wonderful mix of traditional museum, scholarly research, archeological dig, and an opportunity to walk back in history to a realistic reconstruction of the community in the 1640s. In addition, the restaurant is very good. Two thumbs up!
(Translated) The guitar show in the restaurant is great! (Original) 餐厅里的吉它表演很棒!

Big history buff so this was right up my alley. Lots of staff to explain things to my modern eyes. Very enjoyable visit.
Such a nice place ... Great for kids 2 learn what their ancestors went thru....
Amazing place excellent family outing
Beautiful, authentic, interesting. First time seeing a long house. A little dark inside. Do not wear sunglasses :)
The museum deserves more visitors. The architecture and design of the museum is superb. And the cottages and structure where the priests stayed are very authentic and well-maintained.
We loved our visit...
More buildings and far bigger museum than we expected. Oldest site in Ontario, with artifacts from 1600's. Many period-costumed staff in the village, who are very knowledgeable and provide hands-on experiences.
More racist then plantations I have seen in the south... absolutely deplorable.
Nice place to learn about the history of Ontario with real life demonstrations of the way things were done in earlier time
(Translated) A great experience, this fort is (Original) Ein ganz tolles Erlebnis, ist dieses Fort
Happy with room #166. Plenty of space, indoor and outdoor. Generous with supplies. A convenient location with two pools. Environment is safe and quiet. Clean rooms and toilets.
An authentic learning opportunity to travel back into history and learn about the Huron in what is now the Midland area. Awesome to visit at Christmas time for "First Light" event with 1000s of lanterns lighting up the property.
Great for all ages. An interactive way to learn history.
Went there for the first light exhibit. A wonderful experience seeing all the lanterns and light throughout the village. Very reasonable price and well worth the visit. Will definitely do it again. They offered free cookies to all , not just kids and had hot chocolate for only a dollar. Music and activities throughout the village. It takes about 3 hours to see it all, but a great time. First light is a winter outdoor event so dress warm and enjoy.
I very much enjoyed my tour of St. Marie among the hurons. The story behind this village is a sad one... first some French Jesuit priests and their workers came to bring the Gospel to Aboriginals. After ten years the people were dying from diseases that the French brought. So the Jesuits burned it down. But later it was rebuilt as a museum and you can visit it today. There is a indoor museum and gift shop as well.
Great place to visit for the whole family and the staff are nice, helpful and informative. The atmosphere during the first light was amazing I highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area and anyone living in the area.
(Translated) Very interesting open-air museum. For schoolchildren, this is a unique place to study the history of Canada. All staff is very friendly and sociable, everyone shows and tells. (Original) Очень интересный музей под открытым небом. Для школьников так вообще уникальное место по изучению истории Канады. Весь персонал очень приветлив и общителен, все показывают и рассказывают.
Really well curated grounds and exhibits. Interesting for 8 - 75 year olds.
Reconstructed village from pioneer settlement. Well maintained. Interpreters scattered throughout for fun insights. Crafts for kids. Self guided tour (option of audio guided tour). All outdoors - dress for the weather.
Very scenic. Enjoyed the history.
This is a loving museum. The staff is very knowledgeable and are willing to answer any questions you may have. They also have loads of activities and demonstrations every 30 minutes.
Great place for the family
This place is a must for young and old, the team could not do enough for us, so friendly and done everything with a smile this is the best museum. Take your kids and Grandkids they will not be disappointed. It's a pity Discovery Harbour did not do the same
Only a few good things I can say about Penetanguishene from my experiences in the 1980's, nice geography but people unfriendly, love the docks and markets but would never go back.
If you are in the area, stop by. An excellent museum!
great afternoon the youth there were very knowledgeable and friendly!
Lots of fun. Very interactive with knowledgeable staff.
