A very interesting museum in Lethbridge located near the old coal mine. The most interesting museum in Lethbridge.

Great information and knowledgeable staff. I love learning about our local history. Some of the exhibits could use an update like the video in the airplane! I think it was there when I was a child! The building itself is absolutely beautiful!

The Galt is a cultural cornerstone. They organize all sorts of events and classes, they have very well presented exhibits, it's a great place for weddings, and they consistently update their collection and engage the community.

Has some interesting historical viewpoints, but found the experience was quite short for the cost of admission. Have been here many times as a child with my grandmother and felt it was a better overall experience prior to the 2005 expansion

Really interesting museum from the creation of Lethbridge bypassing the WW2 or the Black Foot, I learned a lot. It was interactive and it' perfectly located. Close to the coulees and the High bridge, what a spot! Thanks also to the personal!

People dont often think to bring their kids to a museum but while being educational kids can have a lot of fun here. They have a giant snakes and ladders game that's great fun.

Brian Speck

We had an afternoon visit here. We visited here after going to Fort Whoopup where we received a 50% off our admission to the Galt. The discount really makes the visit worthwhile. Rob was manning the kiosk and it was a most friendly and professional experience. If you only do the gallery, then it will take about an hour to read all the placards and take pictures. You get greeted by a mounted bison upon entering with a most interesting diaroma of southern Alberta. It was interesting finding out about the purple plane and Uncle Ben's Sick Brewery. Lastly, the gift shop was one of the better that we've visited in the Lethbridge area. Thanks again Rob for your assistance.

Evan Alexander

A very valuable organization for the city of Lethbridge & southern Alberta. The archives are comprehensive, if they don't have what you're looking for chances are nobody does.

Galt Museum & Archives is the primary museum in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada, and is the largest museum in the province south of Calgary. In 2006, the museum cared for a growing collection of over 20,000 artifacts and 300,000 archival documents and photographs record the history of Lethbridge and southern Alberta. It attracts over 50,000 visitors every year. A Scientific and Historical Society was formed in Lethbridge in October 1888. Little was done for record archives, and emphasis for the society laid with the presentation of papers at bi-weekly meetings. In 2003, the museum was awarded the Museums Alberta Award of Excellence for Exhibitions for its "Ancestors" exhibit. The exhibit was a result of a partnership with the Royal Ontario Museum and the British Museum in London, England. The Galt has since been awarded with recognitions for excellence in programming, curation, marketing and tourism initiatives, horticulture and archival and collections management, including the following: Award for Excellence in Museums Finalist, Governor General's History Awards, 2016; Leadership Award for Engagement, Alberta Museums Association, 2013; 5 Blooms for the Native Prairie Plants Garden at Galt Museum, Communities in Bloom, 2012; Community Organization Award, The Aboriginal Council of Lethbridge and the Lethbridge Aboriginal Awareness Week Planning Committee, 2011...

I arrived at the museum today and was very disappointed with the front desk person. I had 2 small children with disabilities and an Access2 card which allows the caregiver free admission. I showed the lady and her comment was “interesting “. The one child is extremely excited about art and was looking forward to the museum. The lady would not let us in and would not even talk to me about admission so I have no idea how much admission is or anything. I felt like she did not want us in the museum and so I took 2 very upset little girls home. The view outside the museum is gorgeous but the hospitality inside is cold and unwelcoming. I would not recommend this museum to anyone. It is unfortunate that we could not take in this museum as part of our trip. Very disappointing!

Galt Museum never disappoints grandchildren. For them, ages three to nine years, it is the penultimate outing. Repeat visits seem to enrich the experience. The Refugee Exhibit is definitely worth a repeat visit. I would caution adults though, that exhibit may be disturbing to young minds.

I really enjoy the programming from the Galt museum, but since the main exhibit doesn't change, and the secondary exhibits tend to be very wordy, I don't take my family very often.

Cheap to get in. Exhibit(s) are quite quick to get through. Lots of information about the history of Lethbridge and the area. Great view outside of the building looking over the valley. Only wish for the museum is to make more exhibits. Lots of empty rooms to add more. Overall I would recommend it, but it is a place where you come once and don't need to come again.

TJ Dow

Had a Christnas party here. Apon arrival we entered the building through the north west entrance. It had a somewhat spooky feel but once inside opened up to a nice venue hall with a great view. The Layout is kind of strange however with the washrooms being down the artifact dotted corridor and past the gift shop. The hall seemed big enough for a medium sized garhering and had a sound system that they allowed us to play background music on. I would definitely attend another event here.

They have an amazing gift shop! Great gifts for kids. Worth making a special trip just for the gift shop. I spent a lot of money in the gift shop and they didn't tell me that if I would have bought a membership that I could have gotten 10%off. Membership for a year is cheap. The view from the museum is devine. The museum itself is cool and have some information about the town. The gift shop is also really good :-). I like it.

Bonnie Hansen

I enjoyed the information and displays. They were changing some of the exhibits so we were not able to see one area. I loved the display in the basement. It was about womens influences in history, kind of. Done with hooked fabrics on canvas. Very interesting.

Maddie Siemens

Galt museum is understated. It was very reasonable as a student. Even the adult price is worth paying. I need to go back to finish all of the displays. There is a lot of history. I did not give it 5 stars because they are poor at prompting how great they are. I have lived in lethbridge for a few years now and didnt think it was even worth going in. I was thankfully wrong.

I really enjoy going here just for fun. But I’ve heard that it’s haunted. And when I was younger I always felt uneasy being there. But now I love going there. Its so nice and the people who work there are nice too. The little unique gift-shop is cute too.

Good museum

RR R

A wonderful experience reflecting the various contributions from all the people’s in Lethbridge. It a real must for families.

Colt Smith

Truly enjoyed and appreciated the experience offered at the Galt. It is a small-medium sized museum but absolutely packed with the rich history and art of the area in and around Lethbridge. Lots of interactive exhibits featuring the diversity of cultures that contributed to the area with a significant portion devoted not only to Indigenous Canadians but also those of Chinese and Japanese ancestry. It was well worth the very reasonable cost of admission. They had a decent gift shop too. We picked up a few items including a numbers of books and would likely pick up a few more items on any subsequent return. This Pil is for you!

Terrible. The person I was interviewed by was rude, off-putting, cold-blooded, mocking and grandiose. She was very demeaning of academics, had no clue about the personalities and sensitivities of writers and had no understanding of various types of disabilities. The place is horrible--very gloomy and depressing and dark. Very creepy place!. However, having said that, it was only one person whom I dealt with and perhaps it would have been better if I could have dealt with someone who had some sense of other people--someone who has respect for humanity rather than focus totally on herself, and someone who appreciates people including writers and academics.

It's a beautiful place to have a wedding, however dealing with their staff is very frustrating! one day your request is a yes and the next it's a no. they change pick up/drop off times, and there's no communication between the facility event staff as they both answer questions with polar opposite answers.
