(Translated) Johnston Canyon is a scenic spot and is a nature observation trail (self-guided trail) where explanatory boards about valleys, trees, flowers, wildlife, etc. are installed in various places. Walk along the promenade and catwalk, 2.7km one way to Upper Fall, 2 hours round trip. It climbs as it is, but it is easy to walk on the maintained road. A dedicated three-wheeled wheelchair is available, allowing people with disabilities, people with weak legs and children to visit. If you go along the promenade along the valley, it will eventually turn into a catwalk on the rocky cliff. Catwalks are covered with rocks and have a sense of altitude, but because they are wide, they are not afraid at all. The promenade is over to the upper fall with a drop of 30m. Moss and rocks grow on the ocher bedrock next to the upper fall.

This is a secont part of a wonderful trip/hike unless you started from the top witch you can head towards the Lower Falls. Spectacular View.

Matthew Wright

I personally feel this place offers some very nice views and a not so difficult but fun hike up through the lower and upper falls

Definitely worth the extra bit of hiking to check this out! Make sure to go all the way to the lookout, there are lots of other falls along the way but the actual upper falls are huge!!

(Translated) Great to go in winter! Relatively short and great view! It takes about 2 hours and crampons are required! There are a lot of people, so it is easy to park if you go early. (Original) 겨울에 가면 아주 좋아요! 비교적 짧고 뷰 최고! 대략 2시간 소요되고 아이젠 필수! 사람 많아서 일찍 가야 파킹하기 수월합니다

Marek Kocourek

The long hike to the upper fall is absolutely worth it. The view is amazing.

The Johnston Waterfalls hike is a victim of its own fame. On weekends and the summer, it is just too full of people that instead of communing with nature or having a time for meditation, you will spend your time jostling with people getting pictures. If you want to go, I suggest going during weekdays or early or late in the season to fully enjoy and appreciate it. Less people though as most just stop on the lower falls.

Easy walk on a maintained pathway, to beautiful waterfalls. Stunning all year long, with plenty of photo opportunities. The downside is the sheer number of visitors. It can get very crowded during peak times/seasons. It’s definitely worth a visit, just try to go early or on a weekday if you can!

Laurence MacKenzie

LOVE THIS HIKE. This is a must-go for anyone traveling Banff! The views of the river and falls are spectacular. Suitable for even those who might have trouble walking, a walking stick or two do wonders. The paths are somewhat narrow, so just be wary of oncoming human traffic. Not terribly stroller friendly.

Ofer Livni

Easy trail for beginners. It gets very crowded though. For easy movement, may I suggest that you leave your strollers please.

An easy family trail. I did it in the morning and when I was getting back from the Ink Pots Trail before 11am it was getting pretty busy - the path isn't much wider than 1m so people going both up and down don't have much space in peak hours.

Jimmy Wong

I really liked the hike, it’s an easy but a really beautiful one. Kind of reminded me of hikes on Koh Samui. The air was fresh and a bit moisty.

If you want solitude, try the trail on a weekday during the winter ????

Besides Upper Falls, don't miss Waterfalls Lookout and Ink Pots.

Beautiful

There is no reason to just stop at the Lower Falls, everyone will continue walking toward the Upper Falls as it only add another hour to the total journey. You will pass by a number of falls while still surrounded by many beautiful trees. Please stay on the trail and not head down to the "secret cave" to protect and preserve the environment. There are benches along the way and at the top of the fall, usually people take a break and enjoy the view here before turning around, but why stop there if you can afford to spend another couple hours.

(Translated) Beautiful landscape ... The line of 10 minutes to see the waterfall less ... Too many people. Maybe early in the morning or in the evening is better! (Original) Bellissimo il paesaggio... La fila di 10 minuti per vedere la cascata meno... Troppa gente. Forse al mattino presto o la sera è meglio!

Marc Chasse

Easy and beautiful!

Jun Li

Words can't describe the beauty and peace that you feel once you are here. The hike was long because the road to the trail head is closed. The trail has very few hikers because of this. We passed 6 people the entire day. Because the trail can get narrow parks Canada asks to wear a mask when passing fellow hikers. The snow up to upper falls is hard packed but further towards the ink pots soft and definetly more difficult to walk on with hiking boots only.. Snowshoes or touring skies would be better. Stay safe stay healthy and enjoy the beauty of the Rockies.
