A beautiful, short hike uphill to the lookout through a majestic softwood forest. We did this hike in the spring, when the snow was quite compact and icy. We rented ice cleats from the Fairmont for $10 each and would highly recommend that. The hike itself is short and sweet and ends with a great view of the hotel and lake.

A slightly steep lovely forest walk up to a super view of the lake. If you have a spare couple of hours it is well worth the walk. The switchback trail back to the lake rather than going back the way you came is a fun walk to the trail back along the lake. A bit damp lakeside but worth the longer walk.

This is a 1.6 km hike. If you're not a well experienced hiker, it's a difficult trail. Definitely not an easy one, as it's 1.6km each way of a really steep hike for the entire duration of the trail. Once you get to the view point, the views are incredible. Highly recommend this one if you're looking for a short hike with an amazing view of lake Louise and the famous hotel. Take it slow and with breaks. The hike past the viewpoint is currently closed.

(Translated) Seen from the hotel to the left of the lake, there is a constant 1.8 kilometers very steep uphill to the viewing platform. We were here in October and the trail was partly icy. I wouldn't go up without crampons. The trail is easy to see but demanding thanks to the enormous incline. The view is breathtakingly beautiful. Absolutely to be recommended. (Original) Vom Hotel gesehen links am See vorbei, geht es konstant 1,8 Kilometer sehr steil bergauf bis zur Aussichtsplattform. Wir waren im Oktober hier und der Weg war teilweise vereist. Ohne Steigeisen würde ich nicht hinauf gehen. Der Trail ist gut zu erkennen aber dank der enormen Steigung anspruchsvoll. Der Ausblick ist atemberaubend schön. Absolut zu empfehlen.

To be honest, it was not easy to go up to the lookout. The road was steep and winding a little bit. However, if you go up to keep going around 20-25 minutes from Lake Louise, you can see this beautiful view! I've never seen this incredible place like this in my life... Look at this water's colour!! How about the mountains and the sky!! How wonderful!! ???? If you visit Lake Louise, you definitely need to come up here too!

This is one gorgeous, magnificent location for a hotel. With so much Majesty surrounding you when you arrive, it is only natural that the staff and hotel are gracious and accommodating. Put this on your bucket list! Food is excellent with beautiful views to add to the experience. Plenty to do including hiking, skiing, dog sledding, etc. Have fun!

A reasonable hike for those looking for a kid friendly path around Lake Louise. The same slippery sections heading up turned into fun sliding hills on the descent, but only if you’re willing to sacrifice your knees or butt.

Beat the crowds on a short but steep trail that has breathtaking views of Lake Louise and the surrounding area. So worth the effort!

This hike was all incline walking, no mountain climbing or anything. It is beginner friendly, in the sense that it is fairly short (2.4km one way) and safe. The view is very well worth it. At the top, there is a sturdy wooden deck with a chair you can rest your fat ath and take control of your breathing, as I did. And then once you've caught your breath you can shakily peer over the edge to see the majestic turquoise, teal, blue (I don't know--I'm not an art major) Lake Louise.

Be AWARE!!!! Ice is not frozen This was a great beginning of a hike. We made it past the middle of the lake and then there was no more solid ice. There was a trail but you sunk into slushy water. There are no signs saying anything. Highly suggest walking the path at the edge of the lake.

Went here in July of 2020. Enough people that we didn’t feel alone but not enough people to be crowded. Spectacular views after a steep but short hike to the lookout point. The wooden lookout spot is quite small but what a view. Took a family of four (2x adults and a 13 and 15 year old) about 1 hour round trip with lots of stops and picture time. Would recommend to anyone that can handle a bit of an uphill climb. Will go there again!

This is a great hike. Not too strenuous of a 1.5 mile, up hill, marked trail. If you get there early you can have it all to yourself for a little while. Mosquitos can get bad so bring some bug spray.

Easy 1.8km hike from the base of Lake Louise. Hike is mostly on an uphill incline which is not too bad if your not out of shape. Hike ends at a small platform lookout. Would be crowded if more than a few people arrived at the same time however we were the only ones at the top.

We ended up going up the opposite side of the path, and once we got to the top we saw the sign that said "not recommended for climbing." However, the hike wasn't terrible and the view at the top was spectacular. I would recommend going up the proper trail as a warmup hike before going on the longer ones around the other side of Lake Louise. (The photo is from the bottom of the trail.)

Relatively easy hike - but straight uphill to the lookout. Harder for younger kids, and not a stroller friendly walk. (Easily doable for kids 6+ or in carriers). Not as highly trafficked as the other side of Lake Louise, and the walk back down is a breeze!

Great little warm up hike. . . moderate effort, great reward. Some steady climbs but they don't last too long. Get's you up above the busy Lake Louise lakeside trails. We went in early July and the mosquito's weren't too bad but if you really don't like bugs you'll want to put on repellant.

We decided to do the 2 km trek up to the Fairview Lookout. It seemed to be the shortest trek option from the many trail options at Lake Louise. As we climbed up the narrow trail, through the dense tangle of branches of the forest trees, it gradually became steeper, and we had to stop and rest a couple of times. It took us about half an hour to reach the view point, but it was well worth the effort. We got a bird’s eye-view of the turquoise colored lake and the Fairmont Chateau Hotel at the north shore end of the lake. It looked beautiful.

Lake louise is beautiful but one of the busiest tourist traps. Be prepared to jostle for a photo position. Also a must is to use the park and ride facility as car park gets full VERY early (5.30am). The system runs very smoothly. I'm so grateful we listened to the staff at the tourist information in Banff. There were many people having to turn round at the car park and make their way back to the park and ride. You need to get to the park and ride quite early too. We were there for 8 am which is a good time to turn up.

~30 minute hike up to this location (~2km). The climb can be quite challenging but it is definitely worth the hike! You get a very nice view of the Fairmont surrounded by the mountains and lake. The hike leads up to a small observation area so it could get crowded on a busy/nice day.

I would give the hike a 1 star only because the information listed on the Parks Canada website was incorrect. It’s listed as 100 meter elevation gain 1km one way easy hike. The hike is actually 1.6km one way, 140 meters elevation gain and quite steep so you should use hiking shoes for the downhill. I saw lots of people struggling and families with young children leaving behind strollers mid hike. The view is only trees until you get to the top where there is a small lookout giving a unique view of Lake Louise, while it is beautiful it does not compare to the view from the bottom. It’s an okay hike if you’re looking for a workout but there are better hiking options in the area.

The hike up the beautiful natural trail up on the side of the mountain through the shade woods is a long but breathtaking hike (trail goes have some rest spots which are really nice for pictures). Once you reach the top of the trail you are just overwhelmed with the true beauty of nature, with the perfect place to snap those screensaver quality pictures of the lake and glacier!!
