Definitely one the best place for a picnic/bbq in the mountains. They have multiple fire pits and benches and spaces all around. Banff Town is 5 minutes away across the highway, so it's conveniently located. They have fully operational washrooms and usually there is free firewood available my family and I visit this place at least once a month during the summer.

A beautiful park with plenty of spaces to have a picnic or a barbecue. It's a great place to go for a little hike and also has a area where you can kayak or play a game of frisbee. A great stopover but I must see for those that happened to be in the area and want a nice little break from the drive through.

Gorgeous area for a picnic and/or a swim in the summer. Truly breath taking. If you're visiting from outside the area, you'll probably start thinking that your future picnics will never be able to top the view you currently have. A collection of ponds hugged by a range of mountains--it doesn't get any better than this for a place to rest your feet and grab a bite.

Cascade Ponds is a great picnic & recreation spot located at the base of Cascade Mountain. The legacy trail diverts through here for cyclists who want to access the Minnewanka Loop and avoid the Texas cattle gates. Lots of picnic tables and wood fired BBQ spots, this area is extremely popular and can be quite crowded during the summer and especially on long weekends. Lots of space to throw a Frisbee, kick a soccer ball, or toss a baseball around. There is a trail around the pond that crosses the pond via bridges in two spots. The bridge farthest from the parking area is popular amongst local kids for jumping in the frigid glacial fed water of the pond during the summer. The pond stretches pretty far from the parking lot so if you are using a picnic table way out there or going for a walk around the pond, make sure you keep an eye out for bears. It is berry season already in the mountains and they will aggressively defend their food sources. Awesome place to relax and enjoy some family time. A very high recommend

Such a beautiful area and really easy to get to! It can get crowded at peak times so going earlier is probably best. There’s quite a bit of parking which is nice but fills up fast. It’s so peaceful and has wildlife and there are bridges you can cross over the water and it provides great views of mountains!

Great place to enjoy the outdoors! Although that water is pretty cold.. Its a good idea to bring an inflatable boat to float around in the ponds... Also the fire wood that is provided on site is great for the fire pits Bbq or just enjoying a nice bond fire!

Awesome day hiking wilderness adventure area. It is well setup with picnic tables around the small lake. A good portion of the tables have enclosed fire pits with cooking grills along side that make for an awesome day hiking picnic experience. If you have small children you do need to keep an eye out for the cyclists. Most are good and watchful in the picnic area but you do get the occasional want to be Olympian who thinks children are speed bumps...

Pulled off the highway to stretch our legs and stumbled on one of the hidden treasures of the Rockies! Here, the river winds through a wide stone bed, perfect for exploring, finding cool rocks, and dipping your toes in. The bathrooms and picnic shelters are beautifully maintained and very clean. Several arched bridges connect a path leading to the other side for a short hike along the river. Well worth a stop!

It's one of the most beautiful locations in Banff. You would be able to enjoy the nuture especially at sunset. A good place to relax. The weather is warm enough at the end of May to enjoy this stunning location.

While exploring Banff, visiting Cascade Ponds was the highlight of my trip. I love how peaceful and quiet this park is and I absolutely enjoyed walking around admiring the breathtaking mountain views all around. So many families were bbqing and having picnics. Each station had a bonfire grill and if I lived in Banff, I would come here every evening! Definitely recommend checking this place out. You will not be disappointed.

This is a great place to visit while exploring Banff. Late summer is great as the ponds are filled. They have fire pits with picnic tables. As well as free fire wood. Just bring your own axe. The views were amazing.

This was a delightful stop while we were in Banff. Surprisingly easy to get to with multiple parking lots around the loop, it was simple to bring my toddler along. There are many picnic tables spread out around the grounds, with fire pits to prepare a cosy lunch, and wood available nearby. These are a distance from the water, so they don't really spoil the view, either. Although you can swim in the water, it was glacially cold, even during a summer heat wave in July - so beware! Although there were many people visiting when we stopped by, everyone was respectful and spread out. The groundhogs were neat to see all over the grounds. If you plan on walking the trail, just know that it gets rocky and dips into the stream at a couple of points.

great place for picnic around the ponds with beautiful Cascade mountain and Banff in the back ground. most picnic sites have fire pits and picnic tables equipped. one thing to mention is that even though it has heavenly atmosphere, there's bit of garbage issue and I strongly recommend people to pack their garbage out if the bins are full, rather than littering them there.

Beautiful little meadow located just outside Banff (the town) there are picnic tables as well as fire pits with a grill for food prep. I wouldn't suggest going during holiday summer times, as this place and other Banff locations fill up quickly. If you've got time on an off day, it is definitely worth checking out.

We visited the Cascade ponds during a cycle from Canmore to Bamff. The only detour from the main cycle path takes you under the highway and directly to the ponds.

Great place to stop for a picnic. Easy access from the highway. Plenty of picnic tables, fire pits and wood. If you want to explore, there's an easy path around the pond - just bring a small padlock if you wish to use the lockers provided for your convenience. Great views and a very tranquil spot.

Its a cozy place where you can be with your friends and family enjoy the view and having bbq together. Just ensure to clean after yourselves dont leave any garbage on the table and on the firepit make sure to douse the fire after use. Important: respect the national parks rules and regulations.

Stopped for a quick break to stretch the legs on my way through the national park. A very scenic picnic area with picnic tables and fire pits along the rivers edge and a walk path on either side of the river with a walking bridge merging the two so you dont have to get your feet wet.

Beautiful little bbq picnic area with small lake/pond and little creeks. Icy cold but very clear water. Flush washrooms with plumbing & handwashing sinks on site. Bring your own santizer for the doors and toilet levers tho. Lots of parking. Close to HWY 1 so you do hear the road noise from time to time. Easy to find. Firewood available. Pls put out your fires before you leave. People seem to regularly leave smoldering fires going in the firepits. Not cool people. Let's make sure we keep our national parks beautiful and safe for everyone.

A fantastic mountain lake just 2 minutes from the TransCanada and 5 minutes from Banff itself, offering everything from an easy stroll around the lake, to picnics including firepits/rings, and even a swim / dip in the lake. Be aware that mountain lakes are chilly. Washroom (not flush). Great location just minutes away from Banff.

Nice place to have a firepit meal. You do not need to have a fire permit for this location either. The pond is usually dried up, but it offers a decent view still. There's no firewood on location, therefore, you need to bring your own firewood. From my experience there was no place to get water, so I recommend bringing your own enough to put out your own fire and maybe your neighbours. Some don't put them out properly and leave.

Want to spend quality time with family while not being overwhelmed by the crowd in Banff? - Cascade pond is the place to be then. Lots of green space, picknic spots, benches and biking area. Not sure about swimming but saw a family with small boat. If going from Calgary, this can be a good first stop before Johnson Lake /Two Jake Lake/Minnewanka Lake - on your way to city of Banff. Loved the visit and will recommend.

Sunday afternoon was packed! Couldn’t find a parking nearby so we parked across the street outside the entry way. Beautiful place with few picnic tables and fire pit. You can get free firewood by the washroom. Most families enjoyed paddling their inflatable boats with the kids and of course kayak too. Will definitely come back when it’s less busy during weekdays, maybe.

Cascade pond is a perfect little stroll. It has clear and cool streams, and a large tranquil pond. It's beautiful for anyone, but especially good to go with young kids who might not tolerate a longer or tougher hike.
