We enjoyed our brief visit to the museum. Seeing the set up was very informative and well explained. We were very disappointed, however, because the train set-up was closed for remodeling. We'll hope to see that another time as that was the specific reason for this visit.

A little disappointed that there was no actual steam working the pumps. The railway sets made up for that.

Mildly interesting. It was expensive for how small it was. Might have been better with small kids.

I honestly want to put 1 star just so this place doesn't get crazy popular and busy! Such a perfect mix of museum and play room ????

Lacey James

This was a quick, fun tour of old pumphouse equipment. The entry fee was reasonable. Some of the push button activities didn't work and a few of the model trains weren't operational. If you had kids with you, there were activities just for them. The Davinci exhibit was a neat complement.

Tyler Buttle

Neat little museum. They also have forts on fortnite, every Thursday throughout the summer. Great fun with the kids!

I know that i should be writing about the pump house and the beautiful history behind the various types of equipment used etc., (trust me when i say the people here are super knowledgeable and well informed and if you are a history buff, you've gotta visit this place and you will keep visiting to see the diff exhibits that are contantly updated) but I want to talk about the little train room!! For a railfan and budding ferroequinologist like me, this was the highlight of the trip. And for Canadians who grew up watching "The Friendly Giant" (not me unfortunately) i am sure the model there will revoke a lot of memories. The place is being maintained by volunteers and i encourage fellow model fans out there to visit this place and extend our love and support to this beautifully maintained collection. Some TLC and all the trains here can be chugging along in their former glory!! The various Dioramas are also well crafted by the volunteers!! A must visit if you are in kingston and a great place to take your kids to teach them about the powers of steam! I am going to be driving here many times just to visit this place!!

The children and I loved it...we went back 3 times during our holidays!

Small museum, good view of the old city water pumps. Huge model train setup. For the Canadians of a certain age, the model train set that appeared on the opening of "The Friendly Giant" is on display. You can run many of the trains. The old steam launch outside is a nice treat as well.

This was an impromptu stop and we were extremely surprised and happy with the visit. First it’s a great value at a few bucks to enter. The exhibits were excellent and very informative. The best part was the train display and the kids area. My kids wanted to stay and play and had a great time.

Super-friendly, knowledgeable staff. We had a nice visit to the Pump House Steam Museum. It's not a huge museum so you could probably spend less than two hours there. We arrived at the end of the day so only had one hour. The model railroad section is great for younger children. Press a few buttons to watch the trains whiz around the tracks. It was interesting to learn about Kingston's bid to become the capital of Canada and the need for a steam-powered water pumping system. There are some interactive exhibits and we saw a Kingston Believe it or Not exhibit with fun facts about Kingston's early history. It was well worth the visit!

Megan McLean

Interesting snapshots of downtown history, very cool to see the early municipal water pumps.

For the price the museum is not bad. But it is quite small so it's better for people with families. Other than the size of the museum, I was satisfied with my visit.

This is a great small museum in a beautiful location on the Kingston waterfront. It is a short walk downtown or to the Queen's University campus. It makes a great destination for children as the exhibits are lovely moving machines that capture the imagination.

Angel F

Went for my husband's schoolwork in post graduate program. Entrance was around $12 between the 2 of us. Timing was great for us because of the Leonardo da Vinci exhibit tour that time, so it was extra interesting.

What was supposed to be a visit to a 19th Century pumping house turned into a more emotional experience for me than anticipated. I learned about the Irish fever sheds and became so heartbroken. It overshadowed the quality of the museum. Perhaps another visit sometime.

Rysia Andrade

Benjamin Davidson

It was a very cool experience. The staff there were amazing and knowledgeable. Gave us a brochure and information about other museums and events in Kingston. Was a great experiance.

Jamie Rickard

They often have fun events for both kids and some adult only events. A fun way to spend the evening

Shannon Maric

This was our third visit to the PumpHouse. Due to COVID restrictions we had the whole building to ourselves for a private tour! Our 4 yr old ran off to see the amazing train room while a few of us took the guided tour. We learned a lot about the architecture, Kingston's history and were amazed by all the artifacts in their collection room. Always a great balance of fun for all ages. So reasonably priced you'll want to leave a donation. Staff is dilligent at sanitizing between tours, face coverings and social distancing. We felt very comfortable with their COVID protocols. This trip we also saw a flying fish! A live fish fell out of nowhere onto the front lawn while we waited for our tour. Shortly after a Sea Gull swooped down to retrieve his live lunch. Cloudy with a chance of minnows!!

A small museum, can take you around an hour to finish it. It is even better when they do special exhibits. Last year they had a Leonardo DaVinci special exhibition!. Entrance fees are quite modest and suitable to the expectations. Car parking is free with the tickets.

Harley Feig

The Pump House has some interesting facts about the early use and movement of water in the Kingston area.

Dan Prowse

Good history of water pumping station for Kingston. Also received a message of how, where and why artefacts s are captured and stored on Kingston. They are moving into an analytical stage of storage, where they are not keeping every copy of an artefact l, but maintaining the best few copies. Are also now attempting to best store artefacts to prevent further deterioration.

I visited almost the first day it opened. There were more info on how pumping works. But those science info was probably too difficult and now it was replaced with science camp and other exhibits. But this museum is still full of fun for family with kids to spend couple hours. Don't forget about the fun train models!

Great little museum. My 4 year old loved the Leonardo Da Vinci exhibit and the Imagination room. She super loved the model train room. Admission is well under $10 for adults and kids under 4 are free. 10/10 would go again.
