You will see the feddbacks of real people like you who purchase the products of Fort Henry National Historic Site (Tourist Attraction) in Kingston area (Canada).
As of day this business gets a rating of 4.5 over 5 and that rating has been calculated on 127 reviews.
You must have seen that it has an average rating is practically the best one, and it's based on a very large number of reviews, so we can think that the score is very accurate. If people have bothered to give their feddback when they've done well with the service, is that it works.
As you know, we don't usually stop to place scores when these are correct and we usually do it only if we've had a problem or incidence...
This Tourist Attraction is included in the category of Historical landmark.
There are a lot of exhibit rooms to visit. Besides that, they offer 4 programs explaining artilleries, rifiles, music instruments, and the role of woman in the fort. The staff are very nice. Will definitely be visiting fort Henry next year for the big show.
Seen the Marine Silent Drill Team. Awesome experience.
The fort was closed but enjoyed a nice walk around it. I would go back to see the inside and discover the history. It looks very interesting.
Great historic site. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Definitely worth the admission.
Nice place to visit in Kingston. Do ask a lot of questions to the guides and get to know the history. You can spend 3 to 4 hours here by taking the tour. Listening and talking to guide and getting some nice clicks.
It's a great place to take visitors. You only pay when you want to go into the Fort proper and can visit the shops, look out over Kingston and see the Guard practicing gratis. The Sunset Ceremony is first-rate and well worth the time. Veterans get a huge break on the cost of tickets
Very interesting visit at Fort Henry. Great presentation, demonstrations, a perfect view of Kingston's skyline and an opportunity to discover more about history of Canada.
Came here for Pumpkinferno and had a blast!
Great place. Good view of Kingston from an elevation. Washrooms available. Lumina Borealis in winter and Craft Beer Fest in summer some of the best events. Parking available and bike racks are located at one end. Disabled people friendly trails can be found though different tyres may be required. Great views of Lake Ontario too.
This is a nice tourist attraction. Lot's to see and learn. My kids enjoyed it.
Haven't been here in about 20yrs and decided I want the kids to see this historic location. The last time I was here with my parents, we ended up meeting one of my mom's students from high school. He showed us around the fort and gave us a somewhat private tour. We had an amazing time and learned so much, he really took pride in his duties and it showed. This trip unfortunately wasn't as good because we arrived with only 30 minutes left and from memory it takes a few hours to go around. We will come and try again before heading back to the west coast..
Pumpkin Inferno was a great attraction.
Good place for a quick visit in summers. Beautiful scenic views make it a wonderful place for photography. It's nearby Thousand Islands so both can be done in a days trips. If you have time you can just sit around and relax. The back of the fort has waters with small islands overlooking two lighthouses which is really good to just sit back and watch.
Top 1 place to visit in KIngston
Great living history site with knowledgeable and keen staff. Lots of activity throughout the day to keep you interested. They even fired a cannon! How can you go wrong?
Lumina Borealis was quite the experience. The scenery, music, and lighting was phenomenal. A must-see during the holidays.
Went for pumpkin inferno. Was a great family evening.
We took the Haunted Ghost walk tour at 9pm. Great experience!!
If u like History !
great to visit. not as amazing during a pandemic. great views and amazing staff doesn't change!!
We love the different family events at Fort Henry. The Sunset Ceremony was fun and informative. Our kids (10 and 13) enjoyed being called to "enlist" and learn how to March like a soldier.
See there ARE ghosts running around Fort Henry.... I even know them personally as Tarissa and Lucas...lol ????????
Good for family picnic
Great way to get to know historical Canada. Very immersive experience.
Nice place to visit. It's a good experience.
If you are a history buff or a family looking for a great evening out; this place is for you. The sunset show is phenomenal with a live battle in front of you. The show itself lasts about 90 mins. The ending chokes you up with a tribute to the fallen and the singing of our national anthem with a fireworks display. Bring your own seat cushion and take the ear plugs offered to you. I had the experience on front row bleachers and the action is loud especially the cannon fire.
Well maintained impressive fort from 1830. The highlight are the tour guides. Dressed appropriately to the era, they are knowledgeable, responsive with welcoming attitude. They act as if we are still in 19th century, theatrical to the max. We had such a fun! Kids were mainly impressed with the canon shooting presentation
The 2018 Tattoo event was Amazing! The Fort put on a show to remember!
Visited with family on a labor day, fort location is beautiful, patio of bistro at fort was super, awesome view of lake Ontario. Walking through the history was good, I was expecting but more from parade.
A proud part of our Canadian heritage.
Fort Henry was a fantastic experience! They had a very cool tour around the base, full of information about the base. The staff here was very knowledgeable and made the experience that much better. They also have some other cool things, like little shops and live demonstrations, such as firing blanks from a cannons and rifle military drill. They were spot on with everything, and the pricing for it is very reasonable considering everything there is to do.
So interested!! Really appreciated it. ❤❤❤
The staff that work at the Welcome/Westgate are very friendly. The site holds gorgeous views looking down into lake Ontario, wolf island. You can also go and check out their self guided tours for I recalled was $13 CAD. Definitely a landmark site so visit in Kingston, Ontario.
What a view what a feel. Must visit for everyone. If u visit kingston add this to your list. There is an entry fee which is justified by the forts maintenance. There's an restaurant inside they are super busy. Food is great. View is great form the restuarant too.
Really enjoyed visiting the fort. We witnessed demonstration on the Rifle and cannons. It was great. I wish that the first was in its original state instead of the restored version. Nonetheless, it was an awesome experience
Nice place to visit, and learn about the history of the fort.
Beautiful historic fort! The displays were well-done and plaques were very informative. I learned a lot during my visit. The view of Kingston and Lake Ontario from the top of the fort is incredible. There are people in era-appropriate costumes to answer any questions. General admission price is reasonable and there is lots of free parking available. Unfortunately, I came on a rainy day so there was no rifle demonstration. Dress appropriately as there are indoor and outdoor walking portions of the self-guided tour. Maps are provided when you check-in but you don't really need it because there are arrows to guide you through. Despite the ongoing pandemic situation, I felt safe visiting. There are hand sanitizers available and enough space to distance yourself from another group. Would recommend to my history-loving friends!
Great tour and amazing history. Wish we seen silent drill team.
Not quite interesting for me but for others.
Amazing place …. We got a chance to see the cannon fire demonstration ????
Quite interesting and, if you're into military history, even better! Seeing the fort makes you understand why it never saw any action. At the time, it was an impregnable fortress.
I went for the fort fright event. Alot of work was put into this event, as far as scaring people while social distancing goes staff provided an amazing Halloween themed experience.
Awesome historic site. We went to see Pumpinferno which was an amazing display against the backdrop of the Fort.
very good site
Loved it, shows a little part of Canadian and British history .I went in september, not to much visitors ,lots of parking space and a great view on the city.
Pumpkin Inferno was amazing. Wear for the weather though.
History lesson combined with fantastic views of Kingston.
Worth visiting. Very polite and friendly staff. Try not to miss their demonstrations.
We saw the Sunset Tattoo! Loved it. We stuck around for the Haunted Tour as well. In the bakery a heavy door slammed shut for no apparent reason. Ooooh Ah Ah Ha! Great time all around
Fort Fright is a very well done haunted house for both older kids and adults!
Historic, amazing, the architecture, the moats etc ????????????????????
Very knowledgeable staff. Great view of the lake. Fantastic historical site, and something to learn for every age. I'll definitely be coming back to Fort Henry. It's one of my favourite War of 1812 forts. Check out Fort York, Fort George and Fort Erie if you're love history and the War of 1812 forts.
Very cool pumpkin displays! Epic enough for the entire family!
Nice historical fort, takes you back to 19th century culture. Lots of cannon of that time, the king’s cutlery, chairs etc are on display. The place has a general admission fees of 15$, and offers free parking. Outside view is great to enjoy Lake Ontario views, wolf island visible from here, decent place to enjoy your evening. Best part of the fort is, in Kingston it is used for festivals and carnivals, like Pumpkin Inferno (pics at the end) and Light Borealis. That’s another reason to visit it in night.
A must go place in Kingston! Unforgettable experience!
Lots of great history here. The staff is wonderful. Be sure to watch the artillery demonstrations! There are several options for food as well. Plan to have lunch while you're here.
Educational and fun! Really helpful and friendly garrison.
view from the fort is excellent. GPS will lead to a closed road. need to take 401 East then HWY 15 then Hwy2 to reach fort.
I liked it! My favorite part was when they show off the rifles and shoot them, heck they were loud!
Absolutely stunning place to visit. If you have never been to Kingston, this should be one of the top three places in the city to see. The summer dinners here is some the best ambiance you could ever wish for and they have the chefs to not just cook your dinner but make it art. Absolutely should visit at least once.
I liked people who work here. They all are helpful and knowledgeable. They have very informative and interesting demonstrations.
Great place to visit, lots of rooms with displays. The tour was mostly self-guided due to COVID-19 restrictions, but there were still staff members throughout who were more than happy to answer questions.
Very interesting place. Lot of information and a few demonstrations of the live and culture of Fort Henry. Right now all following COVID measures.
Its a great experience to begin with, the Kingston view from the fort is breathtaking. If you are interested to know about the history you can take the tour its free and is included in the admission ticket. We were right in time to watch the rifle show.
Went twice to the fort’s Halloween festivities, “Fort Fright”. First time was soon after the opening night and it was incredible - frightening and a perfect duration. Went again a few weeks later, still had a good time but lines were much longer and there were less actors along the course to scare you.
This was awersome to be back here as an adult and get to enjoy with my wife. This place brougt back so many memories as a child. I can say this did not dissapoint one bit. Enjoying a great meal along the outter wall overlooking the water with a slight breeze was the highligh of our day.
Loved it. We happened to be in town on a gloriously sunny day, despite many events being shut-down due to COVID, all staff worked tirelessly to make the experience enjoyable. Great team and solid attraction for history buffs!
Very educational. The Fort is bigger than expected. The staff is super friendly.
Pumpkin Inferno was spectacular... Hopefully an annual event.
Very interesting and splendid view!
Not expensive at all and the staff was very attentive. A must visit to learn about Canadian history.
It was interesting, but very self directed. Didn't feel the $20 admission was worth while, but happy to support one of our national historic sites. Spent about an hour here and covered it all..
Even with the new restriction the fort was very enjoyable. All the staff were very helpful and very informative and the exhibits were very cool
Wonderful light show. Awesome for both kids and adults.
It was a great experience learning about the Canadian history and checking how people lived in the era. There could have been more activities and such but considering COVID restrictions, it's understandable. $15 + taxes (website says tax is included but it's not) for entry fee but nit bad for two adults ($33.90). You can get bakery items, sweets, and there's a restaurant there as well.
Great place to visit
Very interesting and well kept historic site. No tours were available due to COVID, but the costumed guides were positioned along the self-tour route to chat with visitors. Friendly and impressively knowledgeable! It was worth taking the time to ask questions beyond the summaries written in the self-tour map.
Was a great experience
This couldn't be anything but a 5 star review! An extremely historic and important structure in Canadian History. Always hosting amazing festivals and outdoor events. Good amount of parking for them aswell. Now that things are getting back to normal I'm hoping to see the inside of the Fort back to full activity! Lots of great little themed shops and preserved interiors to see! Not sure how they will price tours etc these days but if you're visiting Kingston it doesent matter, it's a must see spot!
Not really interesting (at least for me) but the view you get when you’re at the top of the Fort is beautiful.
Tickets are 13 yuan, and ticket sales will stop at 4 pm. Free parking.
I haven't been here since I was a kid, but it was still fun and educational.
Didnt go inside but the grounds was amazing. Nice place, some shops inside first wall before you have to pay for tour. Restaurant in there too with a patio overlooking the st Lawrence. Great place!
It's just amazing. The view from fort is wonderful
We go running here almost every night. Amazing sunsets.
Very good ceremony and firework display
Best view in Kingston.. but as a 100 year old fort you would expect it to be on a hill. There are shops and restaurants inside. Its pricey for the tour.. but if you have the time and like walking... youll enjoy it. Free parking.. bring comfortable footware.
Family enjoyed Pumpkin Inferno, great to have it local this year! Beavertails and hot cider were fantastic
It was unfortunately closed for the season. We enjoyed the outer scenery and the perimeter nevertheless.
Great place to know about history and culture.
Very cool fort and the staff are really knowledgeable!
Went for the pumpkin inferno and had a great family experience.
Cool place, a great historical experience with an incredible view of the city. Came here on the YGK Beer Fest day which was a great, seamless event complete with choice food trucks, awesome beer selection and musical line up. Good job, St. Lawrence Parks Commission.
Incredible light and sound show. Very interesting and innovative idea for what to do on a cold winter evening. There are several interactive stations. You have to jump, or yell, or throw balls, or do some sort of activity to make the sound louder or the lights brighter, or to make it snow! You can participate in the interactive stations as much or as little as you want. However, I found that participating made it really fun. This is a good way to have an interesting time while keeping warm outside in the winter! Make sure you dress warmly. However, they do have several indoor warming stations along with propane and natural fires along the path that you walk for the activities. You can also purchase hot chocolate.
Loveeee this place! You get a guided tour from a "soldier" dressed in 1800s garb, who are impressive as they stay in character throughout. Also worth seeing the sunset ceremonies as it's very exciting to see the military maneuvers from that era. Also can buy fresh baked bread from the ovens of the fort to eat.
Fort freight 2020 hands up thumbs up raise the roof oh my goodness during a pandemic you guys rock keep up the amazing scary fun work play die kind of evening. You guys are so accommodating to our Parrotts Skittles and Basal thank you for allowing us to bring our Fe ather kids Skittles enjoy his second visit to fort Henry for fort fright and Basel had an amazing time for his first time here and this will be our family tradition from here on out we thank you. Now everybody buy your tickets
A beautiful day and lovely experience. The tour guides are young and very knowledgeable. We often ask questions and to me, it's the best way to get information. They are a fountain of information and if you can get them "off script" their depth of knowledge of amazing
Fantastic place. Must visit and watch show
Educational and fascinating
Splendid scenery....and a nice place to hold a x-country race!!!
We went to Fort Henry for the haunted walk. It was very interesting. Liked it
A beautiful location which has great history behind it. Loved the scenic view. If you are visiting Kingston then I highly recommend visiting it. Also they have lot of places to eat in the courtyard. Definitely worth visiting it.
Nigh 'Lumina borealis' was fantastic
Loved the place and all activities there. The fort contained lots of stuff, clothing, furniture from that time. We could see room for different soldiers depending on the position. Our daughter had a possibility to wash clothes on the scrub board, "fire" the cannon and play "old" games. At noon, they fired the cannon. We went there by trolley and stay there at least 3 hours. You can buy some stuff made by local people... You can go to explore by yourself or with guide if you want to know more details about the place or exhibition. Very interesting experience. Really recommend. Good to go with kids, they will love lots of activities there.
Nice place to come at dusk, sit on the grass to watch the sun set.
Not worth the visit .. the fort has a more modern look
Awesome fort. view from the fort is amazing. entry ticket is $13 plus tax per person. Due to covid little adjustments in sightseeing but thats ok in terms of what you get to see inside. Staff is friendly and helpful. Good at maintaining social distancing protocol.Mask mandatory for entry. There is restaurant and canteen inside the fort for public to use. But price is expensive and little vegetarian options available.
Nice site for toursist
Very educational and the programs run every hour, very convenient. Too bad No marching during convid.
Great place to take the family.Itis very educational. The Battery Bistro was fantastic. They serve a gluten free burger and salad. The little shops are full of fun stuff.
Would definitely recommend if you ever come to Kingston; amazing historic site with live demonstrations and performances from the drum line. Loved every minute of it!
I have always loved visiting this place! The reason for the 4 stars is because of my last visit. There was one staff member who was trying to be spooky (Halloween theme), yet funny, however he came off as extremely pushy, rude and not funny at all. If I could offer any advice it would be to read your audience and come up with more wit.
We went for Lumina Borealis. It was magical. The only thing is it's too short. So take your time if you go. Loved it!
Definitely worth checking out. Some adjustments made for Covid. Can only walk through in one direction but no big deal at all. Weapons demonstration was really interesting. Also a great place to bring a picnic lunch and eat right near the water!
Fun and educational! The rifle demonstrated was great. The staff is very knowledgeable. Great time.
Very interesting place. We took a trip out here for the New Years and got to visit this place. You need to bring an extra layer for this because 1. It’s on top of a hill and 2. It’s an semi isolated areas within walls so it’s a bit breezy. Good experience, a lot of interactive activities, but seems to me like it’s a one time thing. Would go again if I have kids though..
Lumina Borealis was awesome
beautiful fort to visit, you will have nice view over there, especially please visit before 12Noon if you want to see canon fire. historical guns, WOW. nice place
I was very impressed in the Sunset Ceremony
Absolutely love fort freight we go every year
A must spot to enjoy the view on Kingston and the Saint Laurent river.
You can visit fort Henry and easily spend half a day just going through the tour and going through various activities. They have the best customer service (they stay in character but still smile for a selfie) must recommend this fort along with fort York . Get the tickets for both places and save. Definitely recommend, thank you to the team at fort Henry for the hospitality! ????
Good place to take the family for something different
I'm a big fan of military installations and Fort Henry is a great place to visit. The fort itself is situated on top of a hill which gives you fantastic views of Kingston downtown and Lake Ontario. Even though it was never attacked the historical staff had a ton of information to provide and were all very friendly. The tour is self-guided with a bunch of different presentations ongoing at different times on the hour. Bring a date, bring your family, bring your dog or bring your pet tarantula! Either way Fort Henry is worth your time!
Spent 2.5 hours on site and found it very interesting. Our guide was very informative and also answered all questions knowledgeably. The Marching Bands was fabulous. The tour covered all areas of the fort and that lasted one hour, then we could cover off all areas more intensely. Interesting history though the Fort was never attacked. Highly recommend
Closed for season. No information found on that.
Very nice views even if it's closed, there are some spots by the lake (not suitable for swimming) but nic to hang around. It's open only during weekends and the parking lots are big.
A perfect spot for watching the sunset and gorgeous grounds for walking; running or biking. The inside site is closed until Spring so I will have to wait for that visit.
History able to touch feel and see!
Good place to have lunch. Great city view and lake view from here.
Beautiful views of St. Lawrence. Talented , informative and friendly staff. Demos were amazing. Clean washrooms, good food...tried pretzels ...they make them on location in a traditional way. Fun and educational for all ages.
Beautiful site and excellent place to watch sunsets. Great place to walk.
Was a great time
So many great event!
It was nice. It is interesting to have a glimpse into the past. The parking is ample and accessible. It is a lot of walking so parents of young children, this is a good place for a stroller. The bridge is really neat and the information from the guided tours makes the visit even more stimulating. Talk to the people in costumes. They are very knowledgeable and most love to answer questions you might have. There are several little shops. I recommend buying a loaf of the historical bread. It's pretty delicious. The view is really nice and the staff very friendly. They have accessible, non-gendered washrooms and a water fountain/bottle refill station. It was very easy to take my boys to the washroom without waiting for the family washroom to be free. Dogs are welcomed in the upper part of the fort. Please be a responsible pet parent and don't let your dog piddle on the middle of the parade square or on the wood. Also pick up after them so we can keep bringing the dogs in. There are seats on the sides but not a lot of shade. The restaurant has plenty of seating overlooking the river.
went for the sunset ceremony and it was amazing! well worth it if you can make it out
Very pretty, so much to learn. Enjoyed the evening.
This place behind, good for having lunch and nice view with the lake , you will love it ????
My favourite place in Kingston
Nice piece of history preserved in Kingston! Staff is friendly. Cannon fire is the highlight of the visit.
Great place to spend some time enjoying the outdoors. The park is clean, centrally located and has loads of free parking. It has a kid's playground & small water park, lots of trees, grassed areas, nice paved paths that will take you from one end to the other, and then the is the stunning views of Lake Ontario! The only negative for me is that the public washrooms close in Oct and don't open again until Apr or May.
Can't wait until covid is done so places can open up again and have people in side. This site was huge.. just got to walk around it
Amazing views
Been here quite a few times I like it a lot it's a good historical site, every time we go I notice something new. This time we went for the sunset ceremony and a ghost tour afterwards. The ceremony is a great show with cannons, mortar and muskets shooting. The drums are always enjoyable. The ghost tour was not the best one I've been on, but it was worth it just to wander around fort Henry empty at night. There are also special events/shows here quite often so keep an eye out, last winter a great interactive light show was here in winter I'm hoping it's back next season so I can bring friends who have not been, it was amazing.
Wonderful place to visit
It is a must see if you are in Kingston. It exhibits a lot of history about this fort.
Awesome tour. Did it with our 2.5 month old girl and it was great. Would avoid the stroler as there is quite a large amount of stairs. We used our carrier and it worked great. At noon they fired the canon and our little one slept through it.
Great place to visit. Lots of in-character explanations. Great guided tours! Experience lived history. I am sure there is more to see here. Food, at the restaurant over-looking the water, was very good.
Wonderful show and history lessons
I had fun visiting. The shows were educating and interesting, I enjoyed the artillery demonstration. Fun for adults and kids.
Maps app is a wonderful thing????????????????????
This is the epitome of the word "breath taking". Go see for yourself and you will understand the feeling and enjoy the tranquility of the scenery and knowledge of Fort Henry
Awesome bit of history to check out and take in,, ya gotta get the pull apart cinnamon raisin bread they bake in the original ovens there,,, so delicious!!!
Came back for nostalgia and to share the place with my daughter. Always nice to walk around, great view. Not 5 stars because it's so expensive to go inside the fort, and not much to see for the price. I know, maintenance is expensive, but the cost deterred us from going in, which is a shame.
Very historic ... definitely worth a visit.
Easily worth the price of admission. The guided tour was really, REALLY, good. The (volunteer!) guides dress in period clothing and answered every question that the group threw at them without fail very quickly. It was obvious they knew their stuff and had ready answers to everything about colonial army life in the mid to late 1800s. We came in the fall so it was quieter than the summer schedule is... But also got more time with the guides and to explore without a crowd everywhere. Highly recommended if you're in Kingston.
It was fun, the demonstrations were super cool and the pretzels were tasty
Great time! The staff are dressed up and teach you all about the place while keeping people entertained and happy. Live riffles and cannon demonstrated which was so cool! Good for any age! They have everything from artifacts to bread made …
Always enjoy visiting Fort Henry, learn something new every time.
Great piece of real Canadian history
Came here for pumpkin inferno. The wife and I were impressed with the displays. Both for the artistry and ingenuity. The lack of organization and the shops within fort Henry were the drawback.
Great place to bring family and friends, although don’t plan to walk from downtown Kingston as it’s quite a walk! It’s free to walk a large portion but you have to pay for the core attractions inside (group rates!). I’d recommend you bring a hat and/or sunscreen. Overall a fun educational experience! The fort never saw action!
Such a beautiful place ❤️
A lovely location that hosts some fun events. They are very heavy on the rules (like not being around during a Thunder storm) , which I appreciate. The pumpkin inferno was a very fun time overall. A star was deducted as many of the lights weren't working sadly
FH is always a good place to visit. The Lumina Borealis light show this winter is fantastic!
This place was probably built by child labor
Will definitely go back when it's open.
wonderful place to watch the sunset and good for swimming
Hands down one of the best tourist attractions in Kingston. If you're a history or military buff, or want something fun for your kids, this place is a must. The amount of effort the staff put in to recreate 19th century British military is astounding. You can see how hard they work to make sure their drill and perfect, and their knowledge of the time period is very good as well. If you can, try and make it to their sunset ceremonies in July and August on wednesday evenings. Simply spectacular.
Really neat place with awesome city views. Try to catch the sunset. We went for the Lumina Borealis event, which was really neat. It was very cold, but they had fire pits, warming rooms, and had warm snacks for sell.
It was a nice experience. I would've like to see more artifacts, drawings and or more interaction with the soldiers that we're there. Still it's nice to have the chance to see this historic place
Old English Fort. Very nice place to visit and take the guided tour. Great for children
PumpkInferno is such a spectacular display! The whole family absolutely loved it.❤ The fort is a perfect spot for this!
Nice place to go on a weekend afternoon. There are programs and you can buy oven baked cakes as well.
It's a live museum. Taking the job very seriously. Kids and adults learned a lot and enjoyed.
Great way to learn about military history. You can do this tour in about an hour and the seightseen it's beautiful. If you're into photography it is a good place to take some pictures.
An excellent and wonderful history.
Nice walk back in history.. Love that the folks on duty wearing the suit are very professional and play the part well.. Must visit if you are in or around Kingston.
Been a favourite since childhood and school trips, bringing family from overseas and now several times as an adult... They've done a decent job of self guided tours during Covid. Thank you for keeping our history alive to share through the ages.
Entry to the fort was closed because of covid (and rightly so) but we were able to make a nice trip thanks to the big park and St Lawrence River. The fort has an antique rustic look and you can feel you're amidst history, looking at the tanks poking out. There are plates engraved with historical facts and a nice little assembly area at the entrance. Would definitely love to visit once it's open again for visitors. If not, go with your family or partner or pets and make a picnic-day out of it ???? ~StaySafe
We did the ghost walk at Fort Henry and it was amazing! I totally recommend to anyone who like ghosty stories! ❤
Pumpkin Inferno was great. Beavertails to complete the night....
A must see landmark near lake Ontario located in the middle of a great town.
Great family experience. Tour guide was phenomenal and even on a hot day the cool breeze from the water carries through the fort.
Never a dull moment. Plus the sunsets are awesome, so there's that.
Great attraction. Especially in the winter for Lumina Borealis.
Take the tour, I learned so much and don’t worry about the occasional bat in the underground tunnels. Great place.
We loved the little presentations. Canon fire, musket fire... The rooms back in the days, walk and see inside but protected by glass. We had fun.
We had a really good time @ Fort Henry.. good to know the Fort's History, there was a guided tour and fun activities on Sunday when we visited..
Pretty cool. There are some shows when visiting here. Awesome!
At first I was not happy about paying $20 per person to get in. After seeing the soldiers perform there marching skills that all changed. These young soldiers put a lot of time into that craft of marching a playing some old tunes. I was really impressed and happy that I came. There are some shops that sell all sorts of tourist trap items. The structure is amazing. Parking is free and a two minute walk. Handicap access is limited in this place, there is no getting on the ramparts from a wheelchair.
This is a review of the Haunted Walk Tour. My guide knew the scrip/history of the fort and the events that took place. It's all about the narrative, and she delivered that very well. The fort was clean and well-kept. Before you start the tour, it's better to hit the restroom, as there are no restroom breaks during the tour.
Went to Pumpkin Inferno. A little difficult in a wheelchair through gravel patches but it was well worth it. Amazing carvings and helpful staff.
Great place. The cannon fire was loud and nice. People were dressed up so nice . Open place and so much things to know about.
Not loving crowded downtown so much? Drive all the way up to Fort Henry, a wonderful spot to watch Kingston at glance. Best timing - Dusk with light clouds. Still not convinced? drive past Fort Henry parking lot and checkout Kingston city's skyline.
Wonderful place that shows a part of history.
Fort Henry is definitely worth a visit but it has gotten somewhat lackluster. There are signs of ongoing construction, fencing and heavy equipment on site that ruins the historical illusion and makes the perimeter appear to be ramshackle. The military "parade" was a noble attempt to entertain by a skeleton crew of youngsters, but ultimately it wasn't very convincing. The most interesting part was the special events and administration building next to the fort, which has an interesting modern architectural style, but isn't open to the public. It looks like a lot of the funding went into the new office building for the bigwig managers instead of to the fort itself. You can stroll around the grounds outside the fort and see some nice views.
The coolest place ever!
A must do if you are visiting Kingston.
Cool place never made it in time for the full exploration of it but part If it was open to the public including the restaurant batterybistro Apparently they hold a haunted walk here as well seems interesting probably worth checking out
Awesome place to check out. It has some real role playing soldiers that showcase nice knowledge about the historical monument with nice flute playing.
I went for the Halloween Fort Fright event this past weekend. My friends and I loved it! It was really fun, the maze to get into the centre square was really cool. I also liked that they try to space out the patrons entering so you're not being herded through in massive groups, which wrecks it. The only thing that was mediocre was the 10 min audiotape haunted walk, definitely skippable. Definitely going back next year!
we attended light show. it was fun
One of the best places in Kingston to see a mesmerizing sunset
Went with my kids, lots of fun!
It was really good but I lost my phone here but this place was nice they seen it and keep it I am happy
A great visit for the light show
We visited Fort Henry over a weekend when we were visiting Kingston, unfortunately since it was a weekend there was a huge crowd and the tour that we took had one tour guide shouting himself hoarse for more than 75 people. They should probably pace or restrict group sizes as the officer rooms on display also do not have enough space for a lot of members. Apart from the above the visit gave us knowledge on the history of the Fort and the conditions during its construction. It was an insightful tour.
Great place to go. A little difficult with younger children as there are only a few interpreters so the kids really do not get the idea of a village. But from what I see they enjoyed it. Go to the bakery and but fresh bread.
Great destination! I came here with my family for the sunset ceremony and was literally and figuratively blown away :). Only wish there were more water fountains in the Fort. If you get the normal admission, you'll be able to go for free to Upper Canada Village (check restrictions).
Amazing experience. Our 4 yr old loved all the cannons, the cells for when you're bad, and all the recreated period rooms inside. Excellent social distancing procedures. Loads of hand sanitizer offered where you come in contact with a railing or an enclosed space. During our visit we saw the rifle and canon demonstration. Staff are extremely knowledgeable and friendly. After the tour we enjoyed walking the grounds and seeing the views of the Lake. Great picnic spots if you plan ahead. Amazing summer/fall activity even during COVID restrictions!
A great visit and quite informative. The staff were knowledgeable and answered our questions.
A very cool place
Beautiful place to catch a view of Kingston ⭐
Awesome experience. Lots of history.
Beautiful winter show. Needed more food options during the show, hot chocolate was not the best.
I love it:)
Interesting place, but don't wait until the last hour to arrive like we did. It takes more time than this to see the Fort. My only complaint is there is no sidewalk up to the Fort from the main road which is an odd omission, especially considering it's only 30 min walk from downtown..
Lots to see and do over a couple of hours. Try to time it for the big parade/canon fire if you can only pop in.
Drive by... nice view of Wolfe Island.
Take the guided tour , it's well worth it .
Amazing , it was good to get familiar with 19th century 's soldiers life style.
Beautiful historic location and very nice people. I liked the arrangement and presentation. Very nice maintained. It was entertaining and educational and we all loved it! Gift shops were great too and people give you good vibes. I am not sure I will go there every single time I visit Kingston, but I recommend it to first timers.
Very nice historical place. Shows are very nice and informative. Staff are very friendly and explain history nicely and answer to questions very politely. Thank you.
One of the best attractions in Kingston - Scenic views, a medium difficulty trail, lakeside and Fort views. You wouldn't want to miss this on your trip to Kingston.
We had an amazing day here..the kids loved how the soldiers involved them in different activities. It was been excellent learning experience for both the Old and the Young. They also have their on restaurant located right on the Fort, prices are moderate and the quality is excellent. The view from the Fort is incredible
Great place to spend time with family and learn some Canadian history. I like the way the fort guards put in scene the military activities of the time
Great view of city and river from the top
A fort with a host of history.
Staff were great in detailing the historical life at the fort and explaining the various instruments, weapons, and canyons at the demonstrations. Due to COVID we weren't allowed into some of the historical spaces, but it had great views of Kingston and the kids learned a lot and enjoyed the visit.
Nice way to learn of our proud, Canadian history
Loved the displays. Too many people allowed at once as the crowd did not respect social distancing and waiting their turn.
Nice historic place.
Cool, went for the ghost walk during the night. Guide seemed very knowledgeable of the fort and was able to tell lots of stories. mosquitoes were absolutely horrid, would recommend bathing in bug repellent before going.
Awesome place. Loved it
Amazing display of light, music and interactive enjoyment that keeps you in awe and discovery from beginning to end. The Lumina Borealis event and thoughtful layout of warming huts, charging hut for devices and petiodic hot apple cider/cocoa makes for comfort even in the outdoor setting. The event is accessible and the passageways broad and winding so as to feel virtually alone in your discovery. Definitely recommend going, or even revisiting, as each experience is unique!!
Beautiful peaceful place to hangout with friends and family. Excellent lakeside view is a bonus with the historic site. You need to buy tickets to get inside the museum.
Awesome historic site. We hadn't been there for at least 15 years and it was just as great as I remembered. The site is beautifully restored to it's 1867 state, complete with a period guard detachment that performs rifle and artilery drill demonstrations. We had a great tour, led by a very knowledgable young lady dressed as an artillery gunner. They now have a very good restaurant, run by an old friend of ours, that serves excellent food either inside one of hte fort's stone rooms, or outside on a patio that looks out over Kingston and Lake Ontario. There are several shops and canteens selling local arts and crafts and food items produced in the fort's bakery.
I love the fort and the view outside the fort is amazing too.
So much fun going back to Fort Henry. Such a good day to spend with family ... make sure you go in the fort if you haven't been
Wedding reception at the Great Hall was wonderful. Catering was absolutely first class, both the food and the servers.
The fort was closed but the view was wonderful. It has its charm and history that was interesting. There is free parking so even if you're going for a simple walk. I recommend.
Must see. Great for all ages.
Really nice place to visit.
What a cool place! Excellent demonstrations (gun and canon). Clean and well organized! We had a great few hours there.
Nice place to learn some history
Amazing place....must visit if you love historic places!! $76 ticket price for a family of 4. (Aug 2021)
Went to Fort Fright with the kids! Awesome experience! Lots of laughs & screams!! ????
Really enjoyed it. It's a self guided tour but there are staff there dressed in original uniforms that soldiers and wives of soldiers would wear. They allow you to take photos and give information on what there is to see. Some great views from the second floor. You can also see in the actual rooms around the compound and with covid, it's a group by group policy. Not all people were following but just be prepared with your mask. Great views!!
Decent place. Not incredible, kinda lame after an hour. One time is enough but do recommend
A historic site for people to know the military history of the city. Super interesting and informative if you're into North America history of wars. Lower Fort doesn't require a admission to walk in. The view from there is nice day in the river and lake.
Absolutely terrible. No body hardly there, gift shops poorly equipped. Not worth it in this ccvid year
The history, the beauty, the view and everything!!
We saw,Pumkinferno. Well organized and very entertaining.
Good for picnic with family on a sunny day. Excellent vintage point over Kingston. Cannon show at noon. Very nice maintained.
Breath taking views and amazing connection to the past.
Always a great time going to this gem of history
It is very interesting historic site of old Canada.
The staff was very friendly and our guide was extremely knowledgeable. We learned a lot about military life.
Everything was good. However, ticket too expensive, $17 each for age 5 and up. $60 for family of 3 for just walking around and look at stuff.
This place is an absolute joke. Due to some miscommunication within my family we booked too many tickets which some members were unable to attend. We asked for a cancellation/refund THE SAME DAY AS BOOKING. Which was also 10 days prior to the scheduled attendance. They told us to pound salt and that they don't offer refunds. What a scam. I use to like to take the family there. Never again nor would I encourage anyone else to support them.
Pumpkin inferno very nice but very basic maybe will add to displays in future
Really enjoyed Pumpkin Inferno
Bistro best nachos Battery burger to diefor
We had such an amazing experience here! We were not sure what to expect as it was a last minute decision. The staff are so talented - totally in character. The place is huge. There is lots to do and see. We went through the museum of the building which was very interesting. Then we were able to watch some reenactments including the canons and guns. I highly recommend checking this out! They have a new restaurant as well that is right on the water. We did not get to eat there as we had to leave early. They also have little shops to check out!
Friendly staff and informative tour, definitely much better when you hook a tour compared to stumbling around trying to figure stuff out yourself
Excellent show!
Wow! So much history. Definitely worthwhile for everyone. Well done exhibits and summaries.
Another amazing show at the Fort!
We love this place. The history, the buildings, the staff.. all amazing!! Grandkids loved it!!
Fort Henry is always an excellent place to visit they put on live show fireworks... the history is unbelievable a must stop if you're in Kingston Canada
Very interesting place to visit. Covid keeps the number down inside too! Nice to have 1 group per room at a time so you can see everything. Good job!
We enjoyed our visit to the fort, spending around two hours to see all of the sites & learn a bit of history. You will need your mask when you go to the indoor parts. We were most impressed with the staff - they're incredibly helpful & passionate about providing history to visitors.
Phenomenal historic landmark! Great guides and very educational.
Nice view,Interesting place
An amazing historical site! Loved seeing how the fort worked. Also the staff are all very friendly and helpful. They have found a good balance of staying in character but also being approachable. Due to covid it isn't fully open but what is open is great. Still recommend checking this out even during the pandemic.
Pretty cool flyover. I remember it being a little bit more exciting. For 15 a person you'd think thered be a little more...well more.
Pumpkinferno was great! So many cool things to see.
Nice place to visit if you are interested in history and military.
The tour is great and the view is amazing ????
It was a great visit. It was not busy. There were people through out the Park to answer questions and with information to share. Enjoyed the Beavertails at the end. I really enjoyed the visit to Fort Henry.
Great historical spot to visit
Amazing views easy to get to. Easy parking Close to downtown Kingston. Reasonable cost.
Went for pumpkinferno it was awesome
What a great place!
It's fun and educational. They have a sunset ceremony that's a must see with a fireworks ending.
Its a nice fort with a lot of history. Due to COVID they had demonstrations and socially distant tours. Must visit if you are in town.
Attended a micro-wedding at Fort Henry. Beautiful spot for the ceremony! Because of COVID, the reception was at the Battery Bistro and the generous portions were delicious!
Thus is Canadian classic to be visited.
We were dressed warm and enjoyed a 1.5hour walk through the display. There was a lot of innovative things that they did. All of our kids 3-11 loved doing this and all 8 adults. It would have been nice to have some place to go to the bathroom throughout the walk, instead of having to walk all the way back to the entrance. The centre square display was so much fun, and the light screen had the kids laughing for quite sometime. The winter wizard was really cool to talk with.
Was a very cool place to visit. Expected to stay for about an hour or two but we were there for about 4 hours. No regrets at all. Watched demonstrations where cannons and rifles were being fired and heard about the role women played while living and working in the fort. Was interesting to hear about how integral music and drumming were to marching and the mental health of the soldiers. When we passed people who were in period garb they enquired how our visit was going and if they could answer any questions. We explored all of the rooms and enjoyed seeing places like the bakery, classroom and the soldiers quarters. We appreciated the time spent to provide information and create displays that share stories of indigenous people and those that lived in internment camps. It is important to make sure that all voices are heard when sharing a complex and intricate part of history. Was a great way to spend our day and we recommend it to anyone interested in Canadian history, the military or anyone in the area. Definitely a must see.
Such a fun place to visit with kids. Hope to get back soon!
Cool place we were there at night for the Halloween stuff .it was really well done
Once of life experiences!!. Definitely recommend if you are visiting Kingston!!
A must see when visiting the Kingston area. Whether your local or not, the shows they put on are amazing. Also have special events for all the seasons. Must check their website for more details.
Great family spot!
Went to the YGK Craft Beer festival. Plenty of local breweries there to try something out and different types for all lovers. It was set up on the hill looking over the water so great view with good music playing. Touch crowded in the beer tents to maneuver around and see what they had though.
Wonderful experience. Reenactments great. Guides very lively, knowledgeable and enjoyable.
Superb place to visit in Kingston. Very scenic all around providing a great view of the city and the waterfront. Its way more interesting than it sounds. Loved the cinnamon pie from the bakery.
Amazing experience and a wonderful guide to walk us through. A definite must do!
Went for a tour last night and our tour guide Connor was amazing. He went into alot of details concerning the history of Old Fort Henry and he made sure everyone followed the safety rules....wearing our masks, keeping our distance etc...Would definitely go back and hope Connor is our guide again.
Wonderful scenic fort.
It was a nice time I had here, it was nice to know how soldiers were living in that time, how there lives were. It was a nice show that we watch cannon and guns firing . The entrance fee was 20$ CAD.
I always learn something new each time I visit
Nice place to visit. It's not like a Big fort but still pretty good place considering we do not huge have historical buildings in Canada. It has rooms, dresses, furniture and weapons of that era on display. There is employes(girls & boys) of the fort dressed in uniforms of that era they also give information about the history of the fort. They are very friendly and informative, and happy to pose for camera. There is also stunning lake view from the Fort.
We enjoyed the information and self tour
Was here for their Halloween and Christmas themed events... So impressive really enjoyed. Going in summer to see the Fort your.
Relaxing andca great place to walk my dog
Wonderful view. We saw the military tattoo here and loved the whole experience.
Solid historical landmark in Kingston, the first capital of Canada. Good to learn about the history of the area. The staff are a little on the screamy side...actual military doesn't scream that much.
Beautiful place and good eat in bistro
We live in Kingston so Fort Henry is not new to us bus this was the first time I saw the sunset ceremony. It was amazing. The marching bands, the storytelling and the war reenactment was great.
Went to the pumpkin Ferro? Was well done and I love how they used the fort.
Interesting history but previously it was worth it just to see the Guard, not so now. Uniforms and equipment seriously in need of care and or replacement.
Cool place to when you're in the area. Friendly staff who guide you to the different aspects of the historical site. The cannon and rifle/musket firing demonstration was the coolest and loudest part. The staff also do a very brief but informative presentation to give you a feel of what is was like back in the day when British soldiers were here.
Wonderful fort. Take a guided tour.
PumpkInferno was great!
Spent time there recently at the Pumpkin Inferno festival over halloween. Was very well done. Included the opportunity to visit the parade square with warming fires, "country couches" and many cut-out set pieces for spooky pictures.
The kids had fun watchinv the reenactements. My kids are older, but the canon and riffles being fired scared a lot of the younger ones.
We went shortly after their reopening from the province-wide lockdown. Location was easy to find and there are ample parking spaces. The way leading up to the front gate is very picturesque. There weren't many people there since it was a weekday after the re-opening so we were able to get a front seat to the demonstrations. The self-guided tours let you walk around and you can get a great view of the area. Really enjoyed being able to see how it was during the 19th century fort. The public washrooms were fully upgraded and meticulously kept. The staff were friendly and very engaging. We took a walk outside the walls of the fort and I would highly recommend to do that on a nice day.
Walked up here and totally worth the climb for the gorgeous views and sunset. Very peaceful and quiet in the evening.
The only interesting thing on our visit there was the rifle demonstration. They could possibly reduce the entry fee until all activities are open inside the fort.
Very interesting historical site for learning about Canada's heritage.
It was extremely beautiful winter wonderland
We visited Fort Henry because we thought our children would enjoy it. I would not recommend visiting during the pandemic as it is quite a subdued atmosphere and the interpreters/ employees are asked to enforce covid protocol. Unfortunately, this enforcement was done in a manner that was bordering on rude at times. We felt that the admission price was much too high for what was not an enjoyable experience for us. The baked goods were very good though and the kids enjoyed the canon demonstration. Just not worth the price of admission currently.
It's amazing to see some of history's most important pieces here. See the actual uniforms, canons, and military history. A perfect outing for families.
Great place great reenactment. Well worth going for sure 2 hours 1hour for the reenactment 1hour for looking around
Special events were great, enchanted forest
Should have been kept more authentic - without the asphalt and modern floors. If there is a cafe, it should have been made in the old soldier's cantine and offer unique experience eating there. etc.
A well preserved and interesting site, rich with history and activities for the family.
The place is well maintained and preserve. A good place to reconnect from the past. Very educational and the staffs are friendly and well informed.
very nice to c..
Just great to spend time with the family
History comes alive and learn about Canada in a world class experience.
It was great! Visited an event called "Lumina Borealis" had great time with friends and family.
Website has a contact link. No response after 3 days. Website says only advance tickets allowed. Had to wait while 3 walkup families were processed by the single person working the booth. The fort itself is fine but clearly the website is not maintained
Lots of history and very well layed out for Covid regulations.
A really entertaining night! The host was amazing and the stories were well researched. We went there in late October so it was dark, making the experience all the more creepy. We were inside and our host was telling us about the Corp. room and the chair. As we were leaving the room, the large metal door slammed right in our face. These doors are really heavy. They would not have faked this as we could have been hurt if we had been walking a little faster. Our host said that was only the second time it happened to him, and he wasn’t too happy to have to do another tour after ours.
Love Fort Henry... I always look forward to an opportunity to attend an event there or do a tour and they have Beaver Tails
Presentation by the student volunteers is very enjoying. Some professionals some professionals also make the demonstration that's fantastic. Anyone and everyone who can manage time should visit this fort.
Its a decent historical sight to visit, alot of the places are closed
The fort is a great place to spend an afternoon or an evening. The views of the city and the lake itself are breath taking. The staff is friendly and dressed in the clothes of the period. There's a live cannon and a rifle firing that are fun to watch. There are many rooms to check out how the soldiers lived when the fort was active. There's free parking and places to eat, including a patio with lake view. It takes about 2hrs to see the full place.
Fort is well preserved, and very clean. The characters and the rifle/ cannon demonstrations were great. Overall, a very good experience and well worth the admission fee.
Pumkinferno was amazing, great for the whole family, and safely set up for covid.
The light show was fantastic. Family friendly and enjoyable for adult groups also.
Extremely great view
Last visit was just a quick walk around. But when I went to fort fright last year I had a blast and will be going again this year.
Really nice place to visit with your family! They have a nice tour, they make food according to the time for guests to try and buy. There’s a really cool soldier marching and band display. Also if you are a teacher you get in for free and if not then your admission is also good for the upper Canada village which is a about an hour away I think and super cool
To enter to this place, there is a fee. $13 per head. I find it is expensive not much to see.more for tourists and small children. K
Good piece of history
A decent historical place with much to explore such as showcase of old guns, prisons, barracks and it also has a cannon show at evenings.
Great shows and the staff was fantastic
History of fort Henry is so interesting
Took the kids there. They loved it! I enjoyed it myself.
Haunted tour, fonal one of the night. Quite creepy and had a great guide named"Tiz". Highly recommended. We did the Haunted walk from the Prince George Hotel to several downtown sites the night before. Guide was "Enya"??? She did a fantastic job,was very friendly, and we conversed alot while we were walking the tour. Also highly recommended
The interactive display of Lumina Borealis is AMAZING!! Go through at your own pace with hot cocoa/cider, warming and charging huts available along the way. The vast turns let you feel virtually alone in discovery, keep you in awe of what's to come, and the music is enchantingly matched to each section...accessible for all to enjoy regardless of age or ability. Visit again and again; you're sure to see something new! DO NOT MISS THIS!!
I went to the tour during the day. And the Wednesday night sunset show. It is a must see. Get a K Pass and see all the great sites of Kingston!
I went with my wife and two daughters. It was slightly raining but this didn't dampened the fun. The period actors were on point and cheerful. We all had a great and really enjoyed learning about the fort. It was really cool to explore the open fort, passages, rooms, and nooks. The fresh pretzel and pull apart bread from the bakery was delicious too. It's definitely worth the time and money to visit the fort.
Always love going to Fort Henry. Amazing sites and great for knoledge based fort.
Excellent visit, very interesting. Friendly staff!
