Good rest point to give you enough time to charge your EV and marvel at the power of nature. When you read what is written on the plaques here, let it sink in. The land slide was massive which buried the highway..... The new profile of the valley is much higher than it was not very long ago. Thanks for Parks Canada for making this the spot it is. I always like to stop here and realize how small and insignificant we are in the bigger picture.
Lovely to see and walk across, however need to be careful when get further along due to the rocks/ boulders being rather unsteady in places. But if you can make it all the way to the mountain side you can see the crashed airplane
It's an amazing sight and one hell of a boulder field... very little else there. There are three EV charging stations and very basic toilets... No Rogers cell service, that's for sure, only roaming.
Worth the 10 min detour from Hope....the power of nature. Wow
Great area to contemplate life. Good history, washrooms available as well as a charging station for your car.
If you are on the area and not from these parts... worth stopping and appreciating the magnitude of this slide and the fact that fewer people were not hurt. Viewing the collapse of a whole mountain from the most dangerous position/perspective is pretty darned cool.
Amazing to think that 47 million cubic meters came crashing down displacing a lake over the mountain across from it . The site was 3 1/2 km , the rest area is nice , washrooms ok , 3 electrical car chargers free of charge air for tire checks.
Very impressive to see what the force of nature can do to mankind. There are interpretive signs to explain how it all went down. Restrooms are available to the public as well.
Good place to stay for the night in q camper. Quiet.
Interesting scenery worth to stop and ha e alook.
A beautiful place with a very sad history. The views are spectacular, the washrooms are great, with EV charging stations, picnic areas and disposal and recycle bins.
Nice n quite place to get close to nature. Electric charger for EVs available with clean washrooms.
Nice rest stop further off the highway. The slide is an awesome view!
I love the hope slide
If you live in British Columbia you should definitely check out a piece of this incredible history. Literally a half of a mountain side caved in and wiped out the highway and killed people as well. :( Incredible to see it in person.
Always a peaceful, somber place to visit the power of nature... and pay respects...
worth a visit, historical site with a view
Nice rest stop. Beautiful views. RV friendly turn around.
A nice piece of history that many forget is even there. There are bathrooms but seem a little under cared for, for instance there was feces all over the men's room as of the 27th of August 2021. The view is amazing. There are now charging stations for electric vehicles and room for large vehicles, motorhomes or trailers passing through and looking for an interesting rest stop.
Nice place to rest and have food. Washrooms, electric vehicle charging stations are also available here. This is the remains of the second largest landslide in Canada occurred in 1965 killing 4 people. The whole landslide is really massive in size.
The view is grand. Free EV charging station is a big plus. I’m rating a 3 because too much graffiti is peppered throughout the rocks. It’s unfortunate, people really should stop ruining natural beauty.
You've got to see this place. It has a real end of the world feel.
Sweeping views and fresh mountain air.
Very informative. Worth the stop
a monumental, epic and historical view to see
Tragic but fascinating history
Great place to stretch a leg and get some history about the area.
Historical site of the Hope slide. Well maintained rest area with plugins for electric cars. Quiet picnic area with great be views of the slide and scenery of the park.
Very nice place EV owners for rest and charging their EV car
Great place to stop and see the Hope Slide. Ample parking, bathrooms, etc.
since 1965 pretty much unchanged. historic site. Washrooms are disgusting
Good place to visit if you are in town for a bit of history lesson.
As far as slides go.. this one is extra bumpy. Takes way too long to actually slide down. I've seen better slides in playgrounds. Way more effective and about the same price. I'll come back again this time maybe I'll focus on the amazing crumbled mountain instead of yelling wooooooooo as I slide over jagged rocks. Hope slide.. it's not you.. it's me.
Nice stop on the Crows nest.
Such a beautiful place with so much history!
Very beautiful especially in the winter
Quite an amazing sight to see, and also a good rest area with chargers for your vehicle.
Beautiful place. You have to see it without the cloud. Lol
Beautiful view
Good place to stop by and take some photos
Free charging site for EV cars, two 50W chargers and one L2 charger also free, toilets are drop toilets but overall clean and the space, opening and just a quick timeout for any drive it’s awesome.
Very interesting, beautiful view and relaxing ????
If you are passing by this area this is a must visit or a must stop, we have been here twice now and the view its gorgeous but at the same time sad because of what happened here. Make sure to bring a camera or your phone to take photos.
Nice viewpoint, I like to stop here everytime I pass by.. however I tried to come up here late at night to hopefully see the meteor shower and realized they keep all the led lights on all night, so it's super bright, not a good spot to see stars at night
Such an interesting tragic event that caused this place to exist. Currently also a place to DCFC quick charge an EV which was great for us! Had several conversations with ICE drivers who were curious about electric vehicles and how the charging works. Perfect spot for a stretch of the legs and a boost for the car.
One of the best rest areas I have ever seen! Slide is quite impressive as well.
You have to see it in person to understand the scope. It was amazing. Boulders the size of cars! Huge swath of the mountain just slid down.
A couple free level 3 fast chargers in a super scenic spot where you can easily spend 15 minutes or longer. Bathrooms as well, and no cell service.
Epic. Great place to hike around in the summer
Unbelievable spot with those tragic but interesting history. Great spot to stop for a lunch or drink if you are into nature and the destruction it can cause
This site is interesting if you are interested in natural disasters. Nice view point with plenty of parking and history of the slide. We visited on July 2019
Interesting history, washrooms leave something to be desired.
Great place to stop at along side the highway. Amazing views all around.
I’m road tripping with my husband and we decided to spend the night there. Campfires are not allowed but if you are staying in a van or trailer you can. There is no phone reception and it has toilets. Great option if it’s getting dark and you need to park somewhere to sleep, it’s beautiful waking up there!
The Hope Slide is a 'must' stop if you're in the vicinity. The viewpoint is well-marked, easily accessible and has restrooms and EV charging stations.
this was super cool to see i’ve lived in hope for few months now and yesterday was my first time to go off roading and see the hope slide yah , it’s a must if ur comin thro here .
Good spot to stretch your legs and charge your car on your long road trip
It’s amazing.
Always stop here on the way home, nice place to take a break before getting on the racetrack back to the city. A big rest stop with pit toilets, lots of parking, a view and interesting history.
I love coming here. Really let's you feel the power of the mountains. One mi ute it is peaceful and serene, the next moment half of the mountain is covering the highway. The devastation is awe inspiring and the extent of the waste is almost unbelievable. Come, climb on some rubble, see the power of nature in its purest, rawest form.
Love going there.beautifull.go have a good look..
Nice and a respectful place for a resting place for those there
Such an incredible sobering sight seeing the tons of rocks that slid from the mountain side and filled the valley up in 1965, 4 people lost their lives.
Beautiful little pull out spot to use the washroom or charge your electric vehicle. Great views and a nice little spot for a Rocky walk
Huge slide, worth checking out if in the area, but no amenities available except a picnic table.
Nice view. Big space to park a few RVs. 3 EV charging stations on site. 3 diaster happened in this place in 1940s. Be sure to check out the history of this place on the memorial plate before you leave.
Beautiful rest stop
It’s amazing looking at the mountain side and 60 years later still see the damage left behind. After a lifetime trees are finally growing in the area. But the mass of boulders strewn and piled for 3 kilometres is mind boggling. There’s 2 souls at eternal rest there as they were never found. 4 people total lost their lives that day. It shows the immense power of Mother Nature.
Amazing a peace of natural history in B.C, slightly erie, but also epic.
Not so much loved it, it was more like a feeling of awe and sadness. The overwhelming power and the unfortunate destruction leaves an awareness of your self and your immortality. Also it had it's own kind of peace.
One of my favorite places been there dozens of times
We can charge up the wife's Prius and take in a great view
She should clean all the ditches around there at the brake check is awful
Amazing and haunting place. Even on a bright cheery day.
Washrooms. tables and charging station for Electric Vehicules???? this is a must stop ????
This is a great place to just get away from everything. Beautiful place, despite the tragic history of the spot. Very peaceful Beautiful breath taking views.
Pleasant rest stop. It's to bad people have to ruin it by painting graffiti all over the place.
Beautiful spot to take a break from the drive and take in the view. There's also porta potty style washrooms.
In the morning hours of January 9, 1965 in the Cascade Mountains about 10 miles SW of Hope AB, occurred Canada's second largest ever, landslide. The volume of rock involved in the landslide has been estimated at 16.5 million tons. Prior to the landslide, a small avalanche had forced five people to stop a few miles southeast of Hope, on a stretch of the Hope-Princeton Highway, also known as Alberta Hwy. 3. They were directly under the path of the slide. Two earthquakes were said to have been recorded in the general area of the slide. One quake occurred at 3:56 am and the second at 6:58 am. These have been shown to be too small to have caused the enormous landslide. The slide completely displaced the water and mud in what was Outram Lake, with incredible force, throwing it against the opposite side of the valley, wiping out all vegetation and trees down to the bare rock, then splashed back up the original, and now bare, slope before settling. The valley is forever changed and two bodies remain entombed in the rock. I've retold the story here, so that visitors will know when they get there that this is a burial site and treat it with the respect it deserves. A view point on Highway 3 allows tourists to view the scar. We found it a very solemn and almost revered place. It is easily found along Highway 3, even without directions, as the scar is enormous and the rock is completely bare, even yet.
Great view, public bathrooms, bit colder because you're up so high
