I walk past here every day as I live close by. I haven't had the opportunity to visit but want to

Ewalt Schultz

Unlike many historical venues, original pieces are rare or entirely absent. Quite the opposite here! The house is near fully restored. What makes this home an outstanding experience is the personal tour personnel, namely Nonni. You learn not just the facts about the home, but all the local history and all the residents of this home. Our tourguide also spoke of the uniqueness of the artifacts and restoration. Hats off to our marvelous tourguide and the staff for leaving so much intact.

Great little history tour, better than dundern castle in my opinion, especially if you get a personal tour instead of a group tour, me and my wife got lucky and it was just us and the guide (who was even related to a member of the family that lived there) it's fun and long enough that it feels worth paying but short enough that it doesn't drag on, also if you have a library card it's free so that's a bonus, no bagels to be seen so that's a stinger but hey you cant win them all I guess.

Original home from 1800's with all the original contents from the famous family who lived there.

Really well informed and.entertaining guides take you through a changing selection of local historical stories: different stories every time we visit. Tea, cookies, lemonade and live period music served in the perennial gardens 12 to 2pm on Wednesdays throughout summer.

My husband and I enjoyed a very thorough and information packed two hours with a lovely docent named Nonni. She brought the family of three generations of folks to life with great humor and detail. The house was exquisite and very maintained. They are currently completely restoring the library,a but personallywe saw ictures of how it looked in it's heyday. Nonni also called the nearby Presbyterian Church that the family supported through their long tenure in the neighborhood, so we went over and toured that jmagnificent building as well. Both venues are a must see when visiting Hamilton, Ontario.

Hung out in the garden area, very pretty and lovely. Beware of couples giving oral in the daytime though...

Interesting stories inside this beautiful former home of the McQuesten family. Thomas Baker McQuesten was responsible for many of the signature parks in Hamilton as well as modernizing highway design as minister of transportation (highways) in the provincial government in the 1930s. He also was a key figure in creating the Royal Botanical gardens and helped bring McMaster University to the city from Toronto. Tour guides are very knowledgeable and the beautiful garden is host to various events and a popular site for photos. Free admission with a Hamilton Public Library card. The museum is next to Hamilton city hall and the historic Durand neighbourhood.

I went on a tour when I was just a kid... Either as a school trip or possibly in 'Brownies' lol but it stuck with me enough that I returned when I was 23 to take my wedding photos here! My wedding was in August 2006 and they turned out beautifully. A definite hidden gem in Hamilton.

Informative and well maintained museum. Great staff sharing fascinating history about Hamilton and surrounding area. Well worth the visit, both inside the historic home and the gardens.

Tharmiga R

A stunning place, with amazing history. Our tour guide was really really engaging, and what stood out from all the other tours was that, she really made sure you knew about these people and what happened in this house. You walked out of there feeling like you knew them in some way. Everything here from the tooth brush, pins to even the smallest faintest details are all very well preserved! You really see history as it once was back in 1850's. Music is played to set the tone and the basement was quite a surprise for sure! If you ever get the chance to visit Hamilton! Make this your first site visit!

Really lovely house; looks especially beautiful in Christmas. It's a different experience than Dundurn castle; more intimate in size and feeling and very interesting how it was in the hands of the same family for over a hundred years.

My daughter attended the whitehern historic house on Thursday June 25th. I was a volunteer and would like to make a few comments. I feel like for a jk and SK class the tour guides should have a bit more patience for the kids. It was a lot of telling them to be quiet and a lot of telling them not to touch this and not to touch that. Our group was never told were the bathrooms were and I feel like there was no schedule for snacks, lunch ect. At one point we told our tour guide that we had to have a snack and had to have lunch since these are kids and they need to have these things. We also couldn't eat or drink anywhere but outside which is understandable in the house. But why not have a snack were the washrooms and craft area was??? To conclude what I really want to bring to someone's attention is that at the end of the tour before we parted on the bus a few of the kids had to go to the washroom. I couldn't believe that the doors were locked. These are little kids here. The parents and teachers couldn't believe that the staff couldn't wait til we all left to lock them!!!!!! I feel like this place is not kid friendly and for that matter I would never recommend it for a school trip. Thanks for your time.

We've our tour of this very interesting home . It is a place frozen in time. Everything in it is original and used/handled by the family. The story of incredible industry and exceptional tragedy was quite gripping. It was very worthwhile and our guide who has been guiding here for 15 years (sorry can't remember her name) is terrific and knowledgeable and acredit to this historical effort.

This is an excellent place to see history of Hamilton and what shaped our city. Even 5 yr old Granddaughter found the information and buildings very interesting. Well worth a summer afternoon. Can also book room for parties. I believe the tree in front of Whitehern is a Black Willow. I hope this helps.

Situated at the start of a great chain of PokeStops for Lure Modules, plus the gardens are very pretty.

This is a lovely gracious home to visit. A tour is included as soon as you walk in the door. The uniqueness about this home is that all the furnishings are original. The owner that lived in this house was very successful and his achievements are many. You learn about his three wives and children. Also he was insistent that upon his death the home would be donated to the city as a museum. Definitely worth a visit.
