Amazing atmosphere. Great gallery
Wonderful addition to the city of Hamilton, a wide variety of exhibits and art, free Friday evening.
It's good and no regrets for visiting once.
Beautiful!
Good for Sunday classical concerts
I love arts
Awesome venue for an event and tons of incredible art!
Great unique creative Art Gallery
loved exploring this as a kid
Great place to spend an afternoon. Had an awesome tour by a lovely docent.
I attended a wedding at the gallery. It's an exceptional space for events. The access to the outdoors, the globe firepit, the incredible lighting created an atmosphere that's hard to beat. We had access to the gallery exhibits. It's a beautiful and varied display, well worth seeing. The gallery has an onsite chef and the meal was exquisite, from the lovely & very tasty apps to the cannoli table in lieu of a wedding cake. Highly recommended
They have great programs/activities for kids.
Horrible modern art
the staff were really kind!
No very much to see but good for a short visit
Friendly staff, good art, reasonably priced. Everything you want in an art gallery.
Unique and surprising collections
I have definitely missed the arts during the pandemic. Wonderful to see the Art Gallery open - and better still FREE during the month of August. First time here and really enjoyed the contemporary and Canadian art. Even Hamilton artists are featured. Not many people were here which made it very safe and comfortable. Of course, masks are required.
Very reasonable ticket price at 8 for student, not very big but still need half day to finish if you look closely. A nice place for relaxing on those busy school days.
Not bad for small city, need more attention to the people's wants and needs of this city, not the vagrant type, the over 40 eclectic sort
The "Bus" exhibit is very cool and the gallery is kinda small but well organized, clean and many different artists, gift store is also small but good products. You can purchase paintings there also!
Wonderful venue for hosting a private party!
I liked the poetry and pictures area
Beautiful gallery. Very well laid out, the staff is also wonderful and very helpful. With March break they had fun programs for the kids going on today which was nice to see. The gift shop is extremely cute and their area for lunch is perfect, the woman who runs it is so kind and sweet and makes the best sandwiches. Very clean and has a fun vibe, I loved how they were showing a film today, very informative.
What a beautiful experience! ????There's so much to see at this place your first visit can solely be focused on the permanent exhibit which will take over an hour to go through the additional exhibits have a fee and a well worth it! You can do the additional exhibits on later visits if you want to pace yourself and enjoy each piece. The sculpture section in the permanent exhibit is so cool! Children friendly, and super clean so wear your masks! ????
beautiful peaces, open and modern space.
Its all in the name its a place to get your art on ????????????
AGH is a wonderful, clean and carefully curated gallery. The staff are very friendly and welcoming and the art selections themselves were phenomenal.
The paintings collection there is amazing in middle of busy city like that. I will come back soon.
New members but long time visitors. Had a great welcome tour and was amazed at the depth of the catalogue
I wanna go inside
Several great exhibits for Fall 2016-2017. Yuri Dojc "Last Folio" a must see selection of awesome photographs documenting the crumbling buildings and artifacts of Jewish life and communities destroyed in the Holocaust. An excellent short documentary playing in a separate gallery. The full documentary pas part of the AGH's Film Festival. Beyond the Crease is a selection of Ken Danby's paintings and studies never shown together in one place. There are paintings loaned from the Smithsonian along with many private collectors gathers for this unique exhibit. Danby was know for his Sport and Landscape work. This show opens visitors' eyes and minds to a world beyond. UnBuilt Hamilton is a unique spotlight of projects planned that never were built or other design selected for the city of Hamilton. Another interesting exhibit is Framing History a selection of photographs from the Hamilton Spectator documenting Photo-Journalism Living Room: Subject, Object, Verb is a fun interactive space.
Great gallery. I love the van.
Always a family favorite and great for date night events!!!
Fabulous
A great venue to get married!
I haven't seen the art exhibit in years but frequent the gift shop several times a year for gifts - they have a unique selection in the gift shop, which I like (I like giving unique gifts)
Our local gallery is a gem. Easy to see it all within a few hours without sacrificing exhibits. Not a large gallery, but it attracts and mounts impressive exhibits as well as bigger museums and galleries might. Excellent events and programming, and frankly the gift shop is a great place for unique gifts.
Great exhibit of old photos of Hamilton.
Really good experience
A Must See Gallery for all Hamiltonians as well as Visitors to our beautiful city!
The staff is very rude. From the front desk to the "guards" rolling in the corridors like helicopters trying to literally bully you. My family also felt racist vibes from them to a point we left after 25 mins because we felt uncomfortable. The artwork itself is just OK, the guide was very uninspiring so imo overall, not worth your time or money. Also remember there are lots of homeless people all around the gallery.
One of few cultural buildings worth visiting if you are in the downtown Hamilton core.
Good art to be seen I recommend going I'm giving four stars because there was only one art piece that blowed my mind but others were okay.
Excellent exhibits
Great exhibitions and also a nice event space.
I love bringing my family here on free Fridays.
Excellent gallery for art works by all types of artists. Exhibits are rotated regularly. Makes for a good quiet time to enjoy real art works.
Hidden treasure and a stone throw away from Toronto.
Nice new building, good art.
It was so Fun to have a school field trip their. Everyone was nice and fun. I also learned a lot of cool facts
Not a very large collection.
We were there for a wedding reception. Walked through the gallery before the reception. Wonderful variety of art, really enjoyed looking at all the different exhibits.
Nice gallery.
Beautiful!
Loved it! Good variety ????
A hidden gem in Hamilton's downtown!
Always a great experience. The kids always love Kim's exhibits. This time there was also Poppa Wilson, an artist that decided to start creating art at the young age of 81 (great art for kids, and creative use of old house parts), Chun Hua Catherine Dong a Chinese artist that has some exquisitely designed sleeping bags(?), and some cool portraits(?).
Beautiful art exhibits! Loved the Maud Lewis and Poppa Wilson exhibits! Really well maintained and well organized! Also Kim Adams, Bruegel-Bosch bus exhibit is a must watch!
Very cool art Gallery. This two are my favorite. There is also a Volunteer tour in the Gallery which is pretty useful to learn the background of photos and artists. Worth to go!
Enjoyed my recent visit to the art gallery of Hamilton. Lots of parking near by. Gallery was very clean and calm. During my visit there was an illuminating exhibition on origami including many interactive opportunities. Will be coming back in the future. Great location and very accessible. Many places to visit near by as well. I enjoyed the sculpture garden outdoors too.
Always interesting exhibits and events. Very impressive permanent collection.
Was okay to pass some time, I'm not an art critic, some stuff I thought was cool, other stuff, not so much.
Well worth the trip to Hamilton for this. Great exhibits and the Vivian Maier exhibit was wonderful. It was pleasantly empty when we went which was great as someone visiting (compare that to other museums where people are clamouring to take selfies with the art) but it tells me that as a museum it is really underappreciated. We'll definitely be back in the future.
Really cool place, specially for students
A really great gallery, smallish but full of stuff. TBH the free section was better than the exhibition we paid for but that could have just been a bad exhibition, I'll still visit future ones.
Nice, intimate gallery. Very nice interior space - clean and elegant! Nice gift shop!
Plenty of parking but hard to find entrance.
Good
Nice place. I liked the large painting with the two women at the grass.
Beautiful building, excellent collection and special exhibits, also a lovely gift shop, and a good variety of appealing art in art rental
Excellent connection and free admission for Mac students. Nice place to spend some time.
Great multi-floor art exposition venue right in Hamilton's downtown core. The gallery brings together in a creative way a diversity of art themes work from artists all over the world. The lighting & big rooms create a nice environment for an enjoyable art experience.
Very much what an art gallery should be.
Great art exhibitions!
Great gallery with a variety of interesting exhibits for different age groups.
The Milli Gould exhibit was awesome.
Really great small collection and very often not busy. Very easy to get to. The rooftop garden is great as well and sometimes has live music
Great
Overall nice place to spend some time!
So wonderful to visit
Beautiful part of Hamilton
Loved it! One of the top places to shop for unique beautiful gifts. Something for everyone. Lovely cafe, friendly staff, and the art was a great mix of contemporary, modern and classic pieces. Well worth a visit - or two!!! Check out the cafe as well. Yummy cookies!
Love the exhibits they have on and also.their permanent collection on the second floor is worth seeing a few times a year. The gallery shop is also Interesting place for gift giving and very fairly priced. The gallery also has programs for kids and an art room for them to play in.
Beautiful space. Went through with my daughter sleeping and it was so lovely. The historic collection is free to view and they are happy to let you take photos ( I believe without flash.) They have this amazing setup where the gallery walls have little booklets that identify the painting and give you all the info without you having to bend hanging over the wall.
Went to see the Burtynsky exhibit and it was wonderful. Never been to this gallery & really enjoyed the other exhibits as well. Looking forward to visiting again.
The wait staff at this wedding venue were excellent. The ceremony space was beautifully lit with the massive windows and a lot of variety, options for portraits in the area.
This is a small but wonderful museum packed with interesting, beautiful, and inspiring works of art.
There's nothing I adore more than art. The AGH is a lovely gallery located in downtown Hamilton, and is certainly worth the visit. Parking is convenient and easy. The gallery has changing exhibitions going on throughout the year, and it's always a pleasure to stop by and take a look. They also have a lovely cafe located inside the gallery incase you need a snack break!
Very welcoming to kids. The galleries are all well prepared.
Wonderful art gallery. Parking is easy and accessable either under jackson square or in the city parking both of which do charge however street parking is not out of the question if its a nice day andnyou are up for a short walk. The second floor is a free exhibit which is a wonderful and i never get bored of it. They also have rotating exhibits that are also amazing. It is a quiet atmosphere that leaves pleanty of space to sit and admire the art through the exhibit. Definitely one of my favorite places in the city.
I love it
They always introduce something new each month.
Lovely...
Very nice, well kept. It is a nice atmosphere and has a very rich selection of art, all made by very talented people.
A Friday night pop-up concert by Union and Kay was a fantastic adjunct to our gallery visits. They played originals and covers.
Great gallery!
This place blows.
It was small but we loved it. It was also free.
A restful place
Fabulous shop!!!
McMaster Students get free entry which is awesome. I loved this gallery and I would totally recommend going for a nice evening out.
Beautiful artwork experience ????
Beautiful art gallery! Well curated. Right now they have a cool exhibition about Canadian Indie Comics. A must see
Did a wedding here and the servers were absolutely amazing! However some of the art is honestly disturbing and grotesque which was a turn off for many guests. Also the busy street deterred us from wanting to book anything here asa protest …
Really love this museum, it offers so much culture and history. The pricing is somewhat high but for good reason, which you will find out shortly after entering the facility. They have great programs for adults and children, including a child part of the museum. I suggest a membership if you plan to go more than a few times in the year as it may be more affordable.
Nice place to visit. Works of dedicated lovers of art are rare to find in this digital era. Hats off to the artists and this gallery who promotes their works.
Trash
If you're going to the AGH you have to see the bus in person ever time I see it I wish I could shrink down and walk around it
Art gallery
This art is bad
Great experience! Went there when they are on free tickets until August 31st, 2021. There are many of art donations! …
Beautiful building and great variety of art to occupy a visit of 2-3 hours
World class collection in the heart of downtown.
Loved this place, and I was delighted to see live art after so long Covid19 restrictions period. Entrance was free that day, so we could visit the entire gallery for free. I especially liked the Catherine Dong exhibit. Staff at the reception was extremely friendly and welcoming. The gift store is also a must to visit. I would go back anytime, and highly recommend.
Beautiful place, wonderful staff. Well worth a visit at least twice!!!
Nicely curated gallery in the heart of downtown Hamilton. Parking is convenient and a decent little cafe inside. The collection is fairly extensive and I've seen some interesting installations in the past year or so. The highlight for the kids is the VM microbus on permanent display. My son loves it making the AGH a perfect destination on PA days.
I used to go to the AGH with my school every other week, they taught us an incredible amount about the different types of art and let us contribute our own art pieces at the end of the year. It’s one of the main things the made me interested in art. Definitely would recommend it to anyone, and especially those with little ones
Wonderful art and very interesting sculptures.
Poor exhibits. Only a few worthy paintings.
Nice place
Great venue for a wedding.
I didn't really go in BUT the coffee shop there is nice and the souvenir shop is to die for. From what I got to see, it was all pretty chill and I would spend a whole morning in the coffee shop by the souvenir shop.
Paintings and stuff.
Performed at a wedding here and it was BEAUTIFUL! Lovely team and a great place to have an event.
Great permanent gallery with some of my favourite Group of Seven pieces. Exhibitions are sometimes hard to catch though unless you visit often
It's was OK but they were in between exhibits at the time.
This is a really amazing art gallery and I really enjoyed visiting. The exhibits were very nice and descriptions were very informative. I enjoyed the Indigenous sculptures and artwork immensely. The original paintings throughout from Canada were very nice to see and the themes / groupings were appropriate. My favourite was the Volkswagen Van with all the movie and pop culture figurines and movie characters. There were lots of super heroes/villians and even Star Wars was incorporated. The gift shop was really nice with lots of artwork and prints. I really enjoyed my visit and would happily visit again. I was Solo and able to go through all the exhibitions in an afternoon.
Only went here once on a school trip and me being a boring old 5th grader i found it lame but I really wanna come back to this place one day and do a better search then what I did when I was in 5th grade i'll let you know how that goes with an update to this thread
One of my happy places! Large space to house various collections. Love visiting to see the new exhibitions that cycle through. Staff and volunteers are always friendly and helpful. Space is well kept and clean.
Enjoyed afternoon wandering around
Great gallery. Friendly staff.
Really well built and beautiful Art Gallery right in the centre of Hamilton's spectacular downtown core.
Wonderful place
(Translated) It is a museum that is not small as you might expect, it is ideal to spend a couple of hours discovering the works of art that are exhibited there, some of them world famous. There is a cafe inside and a gift shop. The entrance fee is not expensive, and there are also special prices for students.
Not my thing
Excellence
Down town Hamilton
Great!
There was an exhibition about Water and I found it completely engrossing and well laid out, really expressed to me just how important water is to the Canadians and their sense of self. Very pertinent too that the plight of the First Nations and the poor quality water they have features prominently.
Magnificient art pieces ! Worth visiting !
Unfortunately I don't have any photos of this amazing experience. My first time being there was a bit unconventional as I was there on set for the day. However, in being able to participate in filming various scenes in many of the showrooms, I was able to see A LOT of art. A lot of very different and unique art. The Art Gallery of Hamilton is 100% date night approved!!
I like that this museum is really creative with its exhibitions, not afraid to be modern and bold. Yet it has a few classical masterpieces as well.
Nice collection of Norval Morisseau (sp?). And, of course, the Westie.
I loved Hamilton Art Galery!
Impressive art gallery. Great exhibits and nice size. They also host private events. Well maintained venue, easily accessible.
(Translated) Beautiful, kind, high-quality coordination and great works. (Original) 아름답고 친절하고 수준있는 코디네이션과 훌륭한 작품들.
Wonderful array of constantly changing exits. Enjoy every visit. Volunteers and staff are helpful and friendly.
Amazing gallery
I really enjoy visiting the art gallery. It's beautiful!
This was an amazing time. Each participant was presented with a drink coupon. The drink options were wine or non-alcoholic drinks. This painting started with a black canvas with delicately drawn lines to guide the proportions of the piece. We had guidance from the artist hosting the event and from the printout of the original painting. I will definitely continue to go to uncorked events at the AGH and I highly recommend it to everyone.
Really cool paintings and awesome staff
It has an intinerant exhibition which is fine, only that it occupies half the museum, the permanent exhibitions are very poor, they need more paintings, more art, and more Canadian painters in the permanent exhibition
Great place, great art!
Absolutely fantastic! Lots of fun exhibits to explore. Before paying for admission, ask to see the second floor gallery. It's free to the public. They also have free entry to the full gallery (possibly with exception to some special exhibits) on the first Friday of the month. Enjoy!
enjoyable afternoon spent
So we missed ''The World is an Apple: The Still Lifes of Paul Cézanne''" But we were pleased that AGH is free when they transition big exhibitions. Other cultural institutions should follow this model. We paid full price to visit the Guggenheim though its corkscrew gallery was closed for renovations. There are so many significant Canadian and European Contemporary and Classical works of art to discover and enjoy. We especially enjoyed Toussignant, Dore and Tissot, though many artist deserve to be viewed again and again (not you Michael Snow), and felt observed in the portrait gallery... We would gladly return just to see Kim Adams: Bruegel-Bosch Bus installation. We look forward to visiting the sculpture garden when the snow melts.
A gallery punching above its size. Fantastic permanent collection and a proper rotation of local, national, and international artists and themes. Small and intimate but consummately a professional gallery. Recommended highly
This time was to visit Maud Lewis exhibit. Always great displays, clean and friendly staff.
Small gallery but loved the Vivian Maier exhibit.
Visited for the first time recently. Attended a meeting in a lovely room surrounded by art. After the meeting we had a guided tour of the Vivian Maier photography exhibit. I didn’t realize what a local treasure this art gallery is nor did I know about its long and impressive history in Canada. Truly impressive and I look forward to returning soon. Nice gift shop too!
Loved the Maude Lewis and Tom Tompson exhibits
Great gallery with nice pieces. I went for high tea with my grandmother and had a great time. 6 different kinds of tea and a delicious spread of food. I just wish there was some background music playing because it is held in a fairly trafficked hallway.
Love the Napoleon exhibit!
It is a small but very well organized Gallery. The origami exhibit was absolutely fantastic.
Great collection and temporary exhibits. Great lessons for classes of all ages.
Interesting but expensive
It's a lovely art gallery
Great gallery and not too busy. Free on the first friday of each month.
Beautiful art pieces and great venue
Such an interesting building with a gallery I had to see in person, Vivian Maier Street Photographer. Great display of local artist works as well. Something for everyone here and the staff was very helpful and friendly as well!
This is a great place to visit to see Canadian artist. it has a good selection of old and modern art. The galleries were well layer out and are accessible to the disabled.
In the heart of what can be a rather dirty, busy downtown core is this gem of a location that provides peace, quiet and creative contemplation. Love stopping here whenever we are in downtown Hamilton.
Great atmosphere, some timeless pieces of art. Loved the Bruegel-Bosch-Bus. Free admission for students with student card is a big bonus.
Beautiful, we saw the Michael Snow exhibit and walked around and looked at all they had there, parking was 6 dollars for about 2.5 hours. Lovely date spot.
We had a good visit. Most of the art on display is modern with quite a range of styles and media. Danute and I ended up talking about our reactions to a lot of the work. _Man With A Line_ was the piece that I really liked and _Horse on the Track_ was Danute's. Definitely worth the time.
Fair enough place for art lovers.
Always interesting shows - loved milli fashions
great art and the place is unique
AGH is a wonderful spot to spend a quiet afternoon contemplating art. The Milli collection was fabulous as is the permanent collection. A respite from the busy world and truly soul nurturing
(Translated) If you love art, you can't miss it. friendly staff and clean (Original) 당신이 예술을 사랑한다면 지나칠수 없을것입니다. 친절한 직원과 깨끗함
Attended a family wedding here. It was beautifully done, to the nines. Great atmosphere, staff, food, set up. My neice and now nephew in law couldn't have chosen a nicer venue for their perfect day.
Not too big in a good way. Consistently well curated shows. Clean washrooms!
Beautiful and modern. Small but interesting collection. Great feature exhibits. Be sure to make time to take kids to the 3rd floor exhibit as a delightful surprise awaits.
Always worth revisiting the permanent collection
Amazing!
A riveting experience with a multitudes of interactive exhibits.
Bunch of Racist workers kept following us everywhere. I wasn’t even seeing art but it was more like seeing the security all the time. Unprofessional approach. The art is alright.. some stuff os non sense like they just put there to fill the rooms.
A great art gallery with lots of exhibition space with many artists on display. There is a large banquet space which offers great catering options.
Beautiful place. Went for a wedding. One of the best venues I've been to for an event like that
Lovely place to spend an afternoon. Great art pieces.
I liked the facility. I attended a private function when the Gallery was closed. Nice layout and lots of space. I only gave it a 4 star rating because the night Guards were stone faced and offered no assistance to find the room. They are representing the Gallery while they are there. Might want to address that.
Lovely origami exhibit plus local Hamilton art and a quiet sculpture garden too
Beautiful exhibits and centred around students in university, has less prestigious paintings than the Monet at the McMaster art museum but definetly also incorporates indigenous lifestyle into their pieces and exhibits
Friendly staff, good art, reasonably priced. Would go again.
It was so wonderful to finally walk in the AGH galleries again, I almost cried. Loved Michael Snows exhibition, as well as Dreams. AGH has done an amazing job with sanitizing stations and distancing. Thank you!! ❤
A fine cultural institution and community hub. Fun events and whimsical exhibits.
Great place for conferences and events.
Having been both a tourist and an event assistant, I can tell you that they really care about art and about representing the cultural diversity of Hamilton. It's always a treat, and I'm grateful that my daughter's school frequents the AGH for field trips. They are an invaluable asset to the City.
Loved it
We visited the Art Gallery of Hamilton last winter. It was a spur of the moment thing, It was bitterly cold outside and we were walking down King St, trying to avoid the Rambler races between the people with the flags attached to their bumpers and the old ladies from the Legion. We ducked in a doorway and found ourselves outside the gallery. It was late Saturday, they were only open for another hour or so, so we decided to do a quick tour of the free area. What a surprise! A lot of phalic African art and there was a nude model posing for noted amateur painter Dalton McGinty. Inside a smaller gallery someone had strung up Christmas lights over a bust of Samson. Not sure what that meant, but it was interesting. There was also a spoken word display with a chap on a megaphone whispering London bus schedules from 1974. The whole place was rather quiet and we had a lot of time to inspect the exhibits. I stood in front of one for a long time pondering it's meaning in the modern world when it dawned on me that I was, in fact, staring at a fire hose and extinguisher. We left the gallery and meandered through the gift shop, eventually buying a replica, full size verision of "The Raft Of The Medusa". It now forms a load bearing wall of our loft apartment. All in all, a fantastic place that really makes you think about modern art and how useless it all is.
Art!!!
Love art
(Translated) Very beautiful and interesting, especially the floor dedicated to female art ..... Not to be missed (Original) Molto bella ed interessante, soprattutto il.piano dedicato all'arte al femminile.....Da non perdere
It's an awesome experience, but it is a small gallery.
Diamond in the rough.
I loved the displays @ the art ???? gallery of hamilton. I have never been there before so it was quite the experience to see it.
A great way to spend you day for a cheap fee. If you love art like me then definerly check this place out. I also think that is very touristy.
small gallery but to kill an afternoon there are few better options
Attended a wedding there. Very nice setting.
My brother-in-law and sister-in-law had their engagement party here. It was quite lovely and we have really good service. The staff was wonderful, and the space is excellent for someone who is creative. My sister-in-law definitely is and used it quite well, making it look very elegant and beautiful!
Easily accessible from City Hall. Amazing art collection
(Translated) Pleasantly surprised ! (Original) agréablement surprise !
Great museum. Smaller art gallery with great works of art. Good for a half day visit.
A great venue for a wedding! The sculpture garden is a perfect outdoor area and the adjacent indoor room has great lighting and ambiance that makes for a great reception. Plus there is some awesome art to see!
Nice galleries. Small and manageable. Interesting Canadian Art.
Fantastic collection of art
Fantastic wedding venue
Always time well spent.
Very nice. We spent an hour there and saw everything.
I love the vibe in each room. my favourite piece is the old Volkswagen with all the figures. So much cooler in person!
Fantastic experience. Our guide was a little too quiet though. I'd recommend going and exploring on your own.
A beautiful and well curated gallery. Thoroughly enjoyed my visit, the staff was very friendly and helpful and the exhibitions were interesting and engaging.
Amazing Exhibits
A great local gem. When you need your art fix, AGH never let's you down!
Such a wonderful gallery, always something new and old!
I just love the AGH. As a recent transplant to Hamilton, I went with friends to see the Milli exhibition and decided to join the gallery. Am taking a clay building course and thoroughly enjoying it. Very accessible and some great pieces in the collection.
Love this place!
You need time to appreciate all the beautiful art ❤️
Loved the current collection, always a great escape
Very beautiful. Lots to see. The gallery has. a broad range of contemporary and classic art - with a good amount of great photography. we will return.
Easily one of the best art galleries in the country.
Free nights on Fridays. I believe all, but perhaps check first. It's great for a quick visit.
Great Art Gallery . Amazing decoration.
It’s pretty good
Nice and quiet place to enjoy art
Good collection but a staff member was pretty rude to me and it admittedly made for an unwelcoming atmosphere. However, the rest of the staff shouldn’t be generalized as such as I didn’t have much of an interaction with them. It was my first time back there in years so I was looking forward to an enjoyable time, wasn’t really expecting the slight unprofessionalism I was greeted with from the mentioned.
The wedding was amazing, very beautiful people with very good service
A bit outdated and stale air
Great time on family day. Kids had fun
Great place for a wedding
Excellent collection I highly recommend visiting! As an art historian I am very impressed with the caliber of this collection.
Awesome exhibits, great kids' programs.
I love the space
Well worth a visit if you're in the area.
Wonderful exhibits
Very interesting place free admission for Aug
Elana d is very unprofessional. Claiming she works here.
beautiful gallery

Everyone should go and see the bus!
A fine cultural institution and community hub.
Magnificent building
The art there was nice to look at. Strong security systems. Students in some schools are with free admission. Check their official site for details
Must see. Hidden gem in the city of Hamilton.
Lots to see and enjoy!!????????
Lovely!
Visited during the annual family picnic and it was amazing. Kids enjoyed the art tables set up for self-portrait, family portrait or city scapes. Kids were enjoyed to leave their art for the collaborative city portrait. Bbq and snacks were provided at this FREE event.
Beautiful and modern. Small but interesting collection. Great feature exhibits. Be sure to make time to take kids to the 3rd floor exhibit as a delightful surprise awaits.
They never answer their phones, return emails within a reasonable time.
Open for Easter! (Good Friday / Easter Monday) Tickets are $10 (Students/seniors are $8, kids 6-17 are $4 and kids under 5 are FREE!) They have complimentary exhibit tours every Wed, Sat/Sun, & stat holiday at 1pm. Really love the museum! They are closed to the general public on Mon/Tues's but they are available for booked group tours / events. It's a bright, beautiful and inspiring place to be! The art pieces are magnificent and a description here wouldn't do justice. Must see for yourself. I highly recommend checking it out. There is also a children's area so it's a great day out for the family.
Absolutely a wonderful arts and culture liebensrum. Top notch community interactive engagement with varying representative groups. When I first moved here in September 2021, I sought a sanctuary space away from my 10 day street life experience. I found my space for solace, and sustenance at the Hamilton Art Gallery. I riveted and resonated with Breaking the Vault. This exhibit is quite remarkable in that youth poets from Hamilton created works based on their selections from the gallery's permanent collection. Their poems interpret the pieces and reify them. by making them new again. Bravo to all in this community for a stellar collaborative effort! Great modeling of what can be accomplished with eyes towards the future.
Very enjoyable
A great place to spend a weekend and be amazed artistically!
New to Hamilton- loved the gallery! Beautiful space with thoughtful curation.
AWSOME
I've seen better shows. The Canadian collection and sculptures are the best.
Free for McMaster University students with Student ID any day of the week. Otherwise the prices aren't staggering. Cool place for kids and the curious intellects. You will have gained a new perspective on something you had seen in the Gallery for sure. 10/10
Beautiful gallery. Went to see Alex Coleville Horse and Train, enjoyed so much more. The Milli Gould exhibit was awesome. Definitely take a look at the menu at the little restaurant. The Quinoa and Salmon dish was unique and absolutely amazing. Kudos to the chef!
Beautiful artwork. Had dinner in the atirum. Great food!
Good exhibitions. A bit difficult to navigate in.
What a wonderful surprise! The Origami Exhibit was wonderful.
Some great temporary exhibits
Me and my girlfriend attend the art gallery this week. It was my first time going and my girlfriend's second. We attend the free public area, I'm not quite sure of the actual name of it unfortunately. I absolutely enjoyed all the pieces of art and other works on display. However form the time we arrived and went up the the second floor and left the building we where stocked by G4S security. As we went up the elevator the G4S guard walked up the stairs and met us up on the floor, he proceeded to follow us through out the gallery as myself and my girlfriend walked through and looked and the various pieces of art on display. As someone with an extensive background bin the security industry as a security guard and a loss provention officer I know when I am being watched. This experience was extremely frustrating and very unprofessional I found it extremely hard to enjoy my visit well being stocked and watched from around corners.
Good location, too few artifacts on display
Always interesting place to go.
Great art work nice place to visit for art lovers

Attended an event and had a chance to wander through the gallery and was impressed by the collections!
Just the right size art gallery, not too big or small with a wide survey of Canadian and international art. Especially fond of the VW bus which is a work in progress since 1997. Housed in a 1970's style building it also features the Irving Zucker outdoor sculpture garden. Pleasant bistro with vegan options in addition to freshly made snacks and entrees that can change throughout the day. Gift shop. Friendly welcome from the volunteer staff and tours can be arranged. Special exhibits throughout the year. My only complaint is connected with the underground municipal parking garage which is dimly lit and the elevator leading to the art gallery is in need of service upgrades with floor indicator lights burnt out. Rates are reasonable. Complex is connected to government offices, a performing arts centre and convention centre. Open Wednesday - Sunday.
Like being inside a snow globe
Great place & amazing collection - highly recommend
Great tour, interesting exhibit. Getting ready for new exhibit. Very quiet, safe experience during Covid. Friendly Staff. Free admission in collaboration with HPL
Finished in like an hour, nothing blew me away. I've seen lots of art in my life and about half of the galleries were very, very subjective.
Great art gallery, offers both a paid and free section which is nice. Overall, happy with the esperience. They have a good homage piece to Hieronymous Bosch and also a great piece of Annie Pootoogook's.
Maybe I'm just not sophisticated enough to understand art but how can you put gravy on a steak...?
Love this gallery so much. I’ve been coming since I was little, and it never fails to amaze me. The Norval Morisseau exhibit was fantastic, but the van will always be my favourite installation.
Art gallery is free Thursdays
The gallery was very nice. However the galleta personal at the Frost del where unfrendly as a resulto it diminish our excitement of the visit
Always a Royal visit to visit & volunteering there! Lovely coffee shop & gift shop too!
Best place to take kids and adolescents to see art and have fun. Currently there is an amazing photo/video exhibition.
Lovely place. Great atmosphere !!! Always an amazing experience!!!
This is a great art gallery. Maybe not as big as the AGO or the McMichael but it is well worth the visit. They have a nice selection of paintings, sculptures and other exhibits.
wheelchair access..great works
Enjoyed your and bonus Milli collection
Nice smaller public gallery. Interesting exhibits. Helpful staff.
A fine cultural institution and community hub. Fun events and whimsical exhibits. Reasonably priced gift store. Very reasonable membership rates.
Lots of things to see. We went to a wedding and it was a great venue. Art was free for us and we walked through. Small but that is all there is in Hamilton.
This is a small but wonderful museum packed with interesting, beautiful, and inspiring works of art. I come here for inspiration and also to just appreciate the local & international art pieces. It's a bright modern building with multiple floors and there is a section that if you have kids they would enjoy and appreciate it.
Always enjoy going here
Wery nays.
Very nice place. Its kind of small at the moment but the pieces of art are very beautiful.
Our family loves the Hamilton art Gallery.
I love the assortment of art work.
A really good vivian maier expo. It is a nice sized museum. To spend an hour or two. There is a nice little cafe inside and an interesting gift shop. The price was reasonable. There have been some interesting other shows over the years. There is an ongoing art project that has to be seen to be believed. Basically a vw microbus covered with toys and model trains.
It has great art to see
Love it here always new exhibits
I like this art gallery. They have a nice permanent collection. They rotate their collection so it changes regularly. On the main floor they have excellent shows/exhibits that are very interesting to see and are sometimes only at and exclusive to the Art Gallery of Hamilton. Once they"re gone that's it. Very often these shows never make it to Toronto. So the smart Toronto set miss out. Visit AGH & Hamilton. Very very nice museum shop. You'll like it.
Took the family there, the VW bus was a hit with the kids, we enjoyed the works of Emily Carr and the Group of Seven, small gallery laid out well. Why the blue square painting is mixed in with landscapes is the only thing that perplexed us!
The gift shop is loaded with original art. Perfect place to go gift shopping or purchase a annual pass.
the staff are friendly the summer camp was below expection. the studio and the program are not designed for all ages..i wished there was a high chair for him. we were the only ones there...but our son enjoyed him self :) Kaity was so kind and patient with our 18 months baby. she modified the program activities to match his age which was awesome advise...go there when it is raining so you will have big group of ppl :) the program runs every Sat with different theme each week.
I hope it has nude hehe
Attended an outdoor wedding here. Lovely venue!
Good collection and activities for children
It has a anwealthy collection highlighting local talent
Went to a wedding here and we were so thoroughly impressed by the entire day start to finish. The venue is amazing.
Beautiful!
Cool and interesting place. Highly recommend it
We went to see the Maude Lewis exhibit. It was a well rounded display of her life and work. There were also several other very nice exhibits of art and of course the ever evolving volkswagon van with a myriad of figures and dioramas. Always worth a visit to see.
you have to pay for admission
Nice place for some enjoyment.such as paper arts, life performance. And you can buy drinks and snack here.
Quite lovely experience. It was a nice atmosphere and has a very rich selection of art.
Excellent Michael Snow exhibit. Thanks, AGH for an excellent afternoon.
Always fun and interesting
A must see. Beautiful way to spend a day!
Awesome
Impressive art gallery. Great exhibits and nice size.
Overall Friendly staff
There are always some free exhibits to see, or on certain holidays access to the entire gallery is free. Also a good place to check out local artists and even purchase some of their original art work.
Terrific permanent collection.
lots of amazing photos about 1950s life and more
Once a month the gallery hosts Free Fridays; entrance to the gallery, main exhibits and a free tour are all made available to the public. On some Fridays there are additional events, like on Jan 3 when, in addition to special exhibits there was a special musical event going on. The building is architecturally interesting, consists of both indoor and outdoor spaces and even has special areas for young visitors. The room which serves as the gallery's archive showcases the long and rich history between the city and it's ever growing collection. Incorporating several different types of media this room holds value for visitors of all ages and can easily take up to more than 10 min, just for a quick scan of the room. In addition to the numerous exhibit spaces of impressive scales, the gallery offers lockers, a cloak room, a gift shop and a small eatery. The gift shop is full of unique and desirable items, objects, jewellery, art and even offers a gift registry. The cafe offers hot soups, sandwiches, drinks, coffee, tea, comfy chairs and snacks. The building is accessible, offers elevators and has drinking fountains for resting periods. We had a great time during our visit. 2 hours was not enough for us, and we can't wait to get back; perhaps we will see you on a Free Friday.
Never been there
Friend brought us when we were visiting from out of town. Permanent collection if free to public and a surprisingly nice experience. A hidden gem in Hamiltion for non locals.
Very friendly staff
Knowledgeable staff. Interesting exhibits. Felt very cozy and friendly. I enjoyed my visit very much.
Interesting, always a source of imagination action and creativity...
Such a great place to go. Highly informative and interesting. I definitely recommend.
Origami show was beautiful.
Always a nice experience to see the artwork here. Especially the first Friday of each month as it’s is free.
Great art
A gem not often on the to do list in Hamilton. It is well worth the visit.
Educational! Very fun to go on a 3-4h date and talk about art
