Beautiful piece of preserved natural land. Only about 20 minutes out of Grande Prairie so it is not too far away. Lots of unique plant life and some unique terrain not often found in the prairies. There are nice campsites too.

Great place to take the family for an adventure. Even better place to watch your kids try to struggle up the steep slopes. This is always good for a laugh as they slip back down and scream for help. Even better is taking the short steep route yourself then saying "What took you so long!?" to anyone who went around and up the gradual incline. Dads needs to get those timeless jokes in anywhere we can. It's the little victories that count.

Chris Monteith

Kleskun Hill Provincial Natural Area is an unexpected park in northwestern Alberta, Canada, east of Grande Prairie. This natural area is home to one of Alberta's northernmost badlands. Cacti grow here and this population is one of the northernmost wild cactus populations in the world. Despite being this far north, the barren south facing exposures allow Brittle Prickly Pear Cacti (Opuntia Fragilis) to grow here. They are the most cold tolerant type of cactus in the world and this allows them to survive here in northern Alberta. This unexpected pocket of badlands sticks up out of the prairie grasslands and aspen parkland plains of the area. The views from up top are spectacular and the plant life unique in this little oddity of the Peace Country region.
