REVIEWS OF Mackenzie King Estate IN Gatineau

September 20, 2020 Enshrined in history is the William Lyon Mackenzie King Estate! This Estate is beautiful. The trails that surround the Estate add to the rich history of which it was built upon. Home to Canada’s longest serving Prime Minister, you’ll love learning about its history, while breathing in the fresh air. The trails bring you to beautiful lookouts overlooking parts of Quebec’s expansive landscape. With such a short drive to downtown Ottawa, the Mackenzie King Estate is a true gem for repeat excursions. Other than the parking not being paved, I have zero criticisms of this pristine beauty!

Redemption Song

Great place to snowshoeing, hiking or skiing. Beautiful indeed. Place to go as a couple, solo or as family with pets too. I guess the cafe is open only during summer.

Tasneem A

Had to pay parking fee (about $13 for a day), but was nice to walk around for 30min - 1hr

Gajan Ganeshavadivel

The estate is a great place for a walk. The museum is really nice, the old houses of King are well-preserved and information is laid out in an interesting manner (electronic interactive displays and plaques with succinct explanations and nuggets from King's personal and political life, which hold the reader's interest).

Nice relaxing place for a walk! ????????

Visited in the winter time, open during a provincial lockdown.many trails to hike lots of streams and a water fall ended with a beautiful view about 250m overlooking Gatineau.

A great destination for a sunny weekend. Amazing flowers and landscaping, a tea room with a light menu, a small cafe with ice cream and coffee, live music on occasion, public washrooms, old ruins to explore, great walking trails through the forest, and during spring, a waterfall! We visit with the family at least once per year, and always have a blast. Parking must be paid for, and the snacks will cost you dearly, but it's a great place to have a picnic and spend the whole day.

Wonderful to visit the retreat of our longest serving Prime Minister! Was majestic in the Fall. No cost to enter except $13 parking fee. Spend between 1 to 2 hours.

Leon M. Bilen

Lovely spot to visit in autumn. The colors are vibrant and the grounds have a peaceful and quiet vibe when visited late in the afternoon.

Seems like French have stolen all stones and walls from Ottawa and made a park out of it.

It's pretty good trek have two different paths.. One say fall. The fall is not great but trek to that is good have beautiful path. Is good for kids as well. Playing all around and you can get amazing shoots as well

Fadia D

Paths were well maintained during the winter months. Easy path, great for kids.

Great gardens, a lot of grass for the children to run free. Cafe is closed because of covid so bring food and drink. There are picnique tables as well. The waterfall is a 1,5 km walk from parking

Watty McGiGaWattz

Amazing place, I wish I had guided your there!

JD Projects

Beautiful place. We took the short trail to the waterfall with a toddler, everyone had a great time. The trail is good for all terrain stroller (we took the Thule Cheetah), although closer to the waterfall it's rocky and a bit steep, our stroller worked fine but a carrier would have worked better.

The Mackenzie King Estates is a majestic place to go for a family fall hike. There are many areas to explore. The info plaques throughout the grounds educate visitors on the life and death of Canada's longest serving prime minister. I would suggest that you wear shoes with good traction as the paths can get a little slippery with leaves covering wet rocks and tree roots. There are some areas such as the waterfall trail which have rock steps that aren't very stroller friendly.

Dee J

Good trail. The Waterfall trail though is a little bit disappointing because when we went there, there was less water on the falls.. not really that appealing but it was just a short hike so it was not really a big deal. Overall, good views during fall.

Steve Payne

This place was magical the first time I went as there are a few places to discover. I will say that I think after one visit, you’ll have been able to see it all so it won’t be as exciting the next.

Denis Jr Richard

Simply beautiful! Plan an entire afternoon or a short visit, either way you will not be disappointed! Has absolutely beautiful colors in the fall! If you plan to visit the waterfall make sure to bring appropriate hiking gear it is a steep climb down the final stretch to the waterfall!

*** CYCLING REVIEW*** If - like me - you were a little nervous about attempting Champlain lookout by bike, I can't recommend this place enough. It's about 2/3rds of the way up to Champlain lookout from downtown Ottawa, making it a nice pit-stop if you're looking to take a break before finishing the climb or a nice final destination if you either aren't interested in Champlain Lookout or would prefer to try it another time. Either way, there are tons of bike racks where you can store your bike, beautiful grounds to walk around on, and lots of history to take in. Cyclists in particular may appreciate the public washrooms and places to fill up your water bottles. There's also a nice outdoor café where you can recharge before either beginning the descent or continuing on to Champlain lookout. The route from the Gatineau park entrance includes a lot of hills. They can be long and steep, so I would not recommend this to beginner cyclists. I would consider it an intermediate-level climb. Cyclists should be comfortable with hills and familiar with their bike's gear change

Beautiful place. The garden is lovely

Arsh Aneja

Stunning park. Lots of land to explore. Beautiful ruins. The park is very clean and very well maintained. Great place to relax, spend a day taking pictures and enjoying nature.

HY LEE

Great place to explore. Follow the paths or walk the grounds- lots to see!

Rose louis

My new favorite hike in Gatineau parc. Just beautiful and full of history. Love it. Definitely will return.

flightkid200

Always a beautiful spot to visit and photograph. Make sure to leave enough time to see both areas of the property. We spent over 2 hours there and only saw one area. I guess we will have to go back!

Scott Buckingham

I've been visiting that place for more than 30 years and it never gets old. I even got my wedding pictures taken over there. Overall beautiful place for all sorts of events, be sure to stop by the tea house :)

Eric S. Periard

Definitely worth the stop. Lots of history. The house guest house and gardens are absolutely beautiful. The ruins of sort were really cool. The history behind them is even more interesting. We did the hike down to Mckenzie King Waterfalls. They are nice but nothing too crazy.

Casey Thorhauge

Beautiful gardens well maintained. An old style country home with ruins throughout the well maintained gardens. Home once belonged to Canada's Prime Minister. Easy walk around the grounds for all to enjoy. Winston Churchill visited so should you!

Gary Hood

It rained a lot and there were many mosquitos but that didn't deter me. I wanted to see the sights and the sights were lovely.

Uthpala M

We had our maternity shoot done here. Fall colors are at peak this weekend. Nice photogenic places to take pictures.

Marcela MA

Went there a while back, great place to bring your dog. Beautiful grounds full of colorful gardens. I went and used AllTrails app and was able to follow along the trail with little to no assistance. This place is very calming and great for your mental health. If your looking for a nice nature walk with your significant other; this is a really good first date spot.

Khushnaz K

Beautiful place with easy, lovely and short trails. Very informative of Mackenzie King's life at the estate and the ruins are picturesque. Family oriented place that gets busy but worth the see.

Maeve Hazel

This is a beautiful historic estate in Gatineau Park, with interpretive signage along walking trails, and we’ll-maintained hard gardens and historic buildings. A café and washrooms are located on site.

sarah-leanne deslippe

A day of beauty, history and serenity. Friendly staff and selection with eating area. It is a great place for walking or just sitting and enjoying nature.

Debbie Wright

Very nice place

Vivek Jain

Very nice grounds. Not overcrowded. Nice historical buildings to walk through. Easily walkable. Lots of trails. Nice calming walk to falls too. We ate lunch at the resto there. Well presented food, average price (18$ average for a meal). They had afternoon tea menu too (drinks and desserts). Overall, nice place to visit for a calm afternoon. But on weekends, parking is flat rate of $12 ($6 if u visit after 3pm). Enjoy!

Nicole

Very nice park for walking, nice fall colours. Parking was bit of an issue so we had to walk an extra 1.5 kms or so from where we were able to park the car. Weather was great.

Amirah Sarwar

One of the best places in Gatineau Park IMO. A must see.

К S

Nice little stop in Gatineau park, interesting history to the place. The walks to the little waterfall and lake are very nice of you have time.
