Good exhibit density, with factual writeups on the history of Fort Smith and environs. There is a little gift shop that is well worth patronizing. Just the thing for the day after PaddleFest.

In smaller communities, there are OK museums, and there are exceptional ones. This one is exceptional. So glad we took the ice road here in February 2020 while we could!!

Small Museum but Full of Great Local Information and Artifacts. Liked the Gift Shop as Well For it's Local Handmade Swag. Worth It!

We spent a fascinating two hours here. Partway through our visit, an employee asked if we wanted a guided tour. She was so knowledgeable! We ended up hearing a wealth of interesting information, and thoroughly enjoyed her company. The exhibits are well-done, with informative yet brief descriptions that are big & bright enough to easily read. You are allowed to touch some items, like the super-soft beaver pelt. Our visit to the museum was similar to our whole Fort Smith stay - friendly, helpful people and lots of interesting things to explore. There’s no admission fee either, although we gladly donated after our visit.

Awesome tour! The museum is even better than I expected, and the guide was so informative. Also they have a book soon to be published, which we ordered of course. Our first visit to Fort Smith was no disappointment, we will be back.

If you're ever in Fort Smith on a weekday, you have to visit! Admission is free, and they have excellent permanent and rotating exhibits. For wildlife lovers, the mounted birds and mammals are a great chance to get to know the local fauna before you go looking in the wild.
