Great experience, knowledgeable guides
I went on a carriage tour for my birthday, I took the 45 minute Heritage tour and it was very fun & I learned a lot about the history of my city, one thing I did not like was sometimes the carriage driver was not talking loud enough but that is my only complaint. The horse we had was very sweet and caring & loved to cuddle I forget this horses name I think it was Spot. It was one of the best birthdays I have had in a while. I also got a stuffy and it is very good quality. I was having too much fun to take pictures of the ride:) Thanks Tally-Ho for a wonderful birthday and a good history lesson on my city
Super fun, they have been around a long time
The carriage ride would have been fun, but it was definitely a more spendy than I thought it should be.
Please stop bringing tourists through residential areas. I'm a living human being, not a curiosity in a museum on display to be gawked at any moment of my personal home life routine.
Horses do not belong near traffic and pedestrians.
Amazing time and they treat their horses amazingly! You could tell they knew their horses personally and that they are cared for and loved.
Had a very special and unforgettable family ride/tour the city with Timber. The kids loved it and still talk about how much fun they had. Definitely worth it!
Tourist trap, horses are not treated well. Expensive and not worth it.
Took my wife on the romance package earlier this year. Had a blast and got to learn more about our city. The animals are treated very well. I saw no signs otherwise and were happy to be on the move.
Sophie and her horse Major were great!! Sophie was very knowledgeable and made the tour very interesting. Major was so beautiful and well behaved. We couldn't have asked for a better couple of tour guides!! Would highly recommend this company and specifically Sophie and Major as a team!!
A must do for sure!
(Translated) What a great experience riding horses in the beautiful city of Victoria, thank you Keira and Tony for giving me a wonderful memory with my wife (Original)
Our driver was great! Sarge, our horse, was fantastic! Loved beacon hill park!! I wouldn’t change a thing. We took the 45 min tour and it was well worth the money.
We made the reservation three days ago, and we have planned everything. When we arrived, and we got the email that they cancelled our appointment without calling and saying anything?
In July 2018 we had the wonderful opportunity to visit Victoria BC again! As during the past two visit (1992 & 2005) a carriage ride in the downtown area was a must. Leah, with Tally-Ho gave us a very delightful and informative tour. This is a very enjoyable ride for anyone who enjoys the slow pace of a horse and carriage. Leah, thanks for a great time!
Maybe for a date, or for kids but there are so many cheaper and more interesting ways to explore the city.
We had a lovely trip with Tally Ho. There were a couple hiccups with the booking and some logistics that were beyond their control. The staff did go above and beyond in making sure that we were happy and that meant a lot. I would recommend. Great family experience.
So cool
Ignore the activist slanders and the Karens on here. They are slanderous untruthful hate speech and not a legitimate review of any business or animal treatment. These are Clydesdale horses that were born for and love to work. They are not overworked in the slightest but doing nice casual walks with attention and care from their owners and customers as well. They are fitted with shoes designed for what they are doing. Those calling for them to be in a field doing nothing are not even slightly interested in the animals health or happiness, they are just looking for recognition of themselves. Had a great relaxing 90 min tour with reasonable pricing and a very friendly, knowledgeable host/driver. Highly recommend if you're looking for a fun but relaxing tour around Victoria.
Lea was an excellent tour guide. Really enjoyed it.
Went for a Christmas eve ride and it was lovely. Quite expensive but all carriage rides are, we did the 30 minute ride and learned a fair bit about the city thanks to our guide.
Horses should be out in fields not amongst city streets. Rude and aggressive staff.
This is a top-notch company that takes customer service seriously and adds so much value to the colour and diversity of the whole region. The drivers are courteous, informative, and well-trained. The horses are pampered and loved as the family members they are. They are fulfilled and happy when they get to work and are allowed to do what they are bred for.
Loved it
I've seen the same horses working all day long although the business claims their horses are on shorter shifts. Also have seen them working during the super high temperatures and hot sun. Really disappointed and will never support this business. There is a lack of transparency and they put profit over the animals' wellbeing.
Delightful experience . The young lady who showed us the tour was full of knowledge and super sweet. A total must do when visiting Victoria.
Horses do not belong on city streets. Owner lied to public on multiple occasions and not to be trusted. No oversight for this self regulated industry. Please boycott.
A gift for my family from out of town. They LOVED the experience, it was the highlight of their trip to Victoria !
Picnic tour was absolutely awesome. Highly recommend for anyone of any age. Gordon was the name of our carriage horse. He was gorgeous, well cared for, and obviously loved his job. What a love bug! The two gals (driver and guide) we had were entertaining and knowledgeable. The boxed lunch was to die for. The staff and cider at the Seaside Brewery were excellent. We almost needed another carriage to bring our cider purchases home.
(Translated) Although the taste is heavy, it is very interesting! (Original)
Great tour! Our guide Randy was so friendly and unreal!
I had an amazing time. Kayla was super friendly and kept the ride full of laughter and tid-bits of knowledge about the city that I didn't know about. I definitely recommend both her and Tally-Ho, especially to anyone new to the city. :)
Amazing experience, will definitely do this again.
Horse-drawn carriage tours slowly clop-clop-clopping through residential neighbourhoods such as ours in James Bay is beyond invasive. What the hell is there in these neighbourhoods to see or interest tourists who pay big money for this? I'm sick of walking to or from home on errands to see carriage after carriage rolling down the street. You need to find somewhere else to go. I live here. If I wanted to be an exhibit, I'd go stand in the BC museum.
It's a beautiful experience , should have a tour of beautiful Victoria
Amazing tour First the owner went out of her way to make a few of my special requests happen I needed a certain pick up spot and drop off. Then last minute I had to change the time of our tour. We had a party of 3 plus a small dog Thank you. Our carriage was SPOTLESS Our charming guide was great. Very relaxing interesting tour. I would recommend.
On our honeymoon in Victoria this week we had the extreme pleasure of taking a carriage ride with Brianne (sorry if I mis spelled) and Spot, it was an incredible trip and a lovely way to see the sights. I would recommend a tour to anyone.
Not worth it.
The people that take care of you are friendly!
Very enjoyable and informative. Our driver Tyler was knowledgeable and professional. Would highly recommend.
(Translated) We loved the tour and wished we had taken a longer one (which we found a bit expensive). Our guide asked us if we wanted to have information about the city or if we would prefer her to be silent. The tour was very interesting and our guide knows the city and its history well. Be careful, you do not pass in front of the Empress hotel because the hyper center is prohibited. I think we have been photographed over 30 times by tourists (like us) and we put on our best smile and practiced our Queen of England hand sign (small wrist rotation). In fact, this company was the first in Victoria and at the time when cars were only beginning to appear, it served as a "taxi" in a horse-drawn carriage. I found that there was a great bond between our guide and his horse. She spoke to him softly. The horses seem to be treated well (even if we do make them work anyway). This is not the case with all companies! We paid CAD 138.60 for a 45 minute ride buying on the Victoria Clipper boat. The “normal” price is 165 CAD for 45 minutes. You pay for the carriage, so whether it's for two or four, it's the same price. You have to add a tip.
Such a great company, you can tell everyone really cares about the job and the horses and really look after them!
Easy to set up and find. Keep in mind if you are coming off a cruise ship and haven’t booked through the cruise you will need time for transportation to their spot. It was a $10 cab ride. You can walk from the pier but it is a 20 minute walk. The tour was wonderful - beautiful scenery, smooth ride and a truly informative guide! Would do again!
(Translated) My husband and I visited Victoria. We did a carriage ride with Carole and Sampson. Beautiful city, made even more memorable by Carole telling us the story in French of his best. We really appreciated the extra effort. Thank you, thank you a thousand times thank you for Strasbourg. On our next visit, we will look for Carole and Sampson.
Beautiful horses, incredible service, brilliant stories. One in a life time experience, you don’t want to miss out if you are visiting Victoria !
Had a great hour long tour with Ila and of course Major the Clidesdale. The entire experience was to say the least great. Everyone from the owner to the staff, made sure that we had an enjoyable ride.
We took a carriage ride for my daughter's birthday and found the experience to be a bit off putting. We asked if we could organize a ride that dropped us off at a location in Beacon Hill Park and the manager said "what do you think this is, a Taxi". We decided on the James Bay route and our driver seemed annoyed when we asked her a question and once the ride was over she made it seem like a big inconvenience for my children to pet the horse, even though we had tipped her quite well. We enjoyed the ride and scenery but the customer service was poor and we wouldn't consider taking a ride with them again in the future.
I cannot say anything positive about this company. Unprofessional employees, lack of oversight for employees and horses while operating in busy downtown Victoria streets, and owner makes unfounded claims to media about those who disagree with using animals for entertainment. This company is not in alignment with 2020 values, ethics, and progressiveness.
Had an Amazing 60 minute tour through Beacon hill park! Tara our driver was friendly and knowledgeable about the tour, and I could tell she loved her work! Clay was our horse and he was nothing short of exceptional as well! Bring a bottle of wine, sit back relax and enjoy the beautiful mountain/ocean views! Highly recommend to do this while in Victoria!
A wonderful educational carriage ride to Sea Cider where we enjoyed a full tasting and gourmet picnic box from Truffles Catering. Although born on the Island and been back for over 30 years there was so much local history That we were unaware of presented by our very competent driver. The horses are treated like royalty and well looked after. They were well rested between their trips and grooming was impeccable. As a horse rider myself I can say to all those persistent protesters that do not believe large horses like these should not be worked that they should do their research a lot better. Many of the horses are rescues and the exercise they get doing this is healthy for them. Others end up as dog food in foreign countries or neglected. Please anyone who reads the review that wants people to boycott these animals and the amazing local owners, do your own thinking and ask to visit. You will see the love and excitement of these gentle giants. Thanks for a wonderful trip Sue and Kerry
Tally Ho and Sea Cider Picnic My sister and I had the best time on our Tally Ho Picnic. The Truffles Catering picnic was so delicious! We loved the whole experience and hope to do it again!
Friendly staff, fun ride. More people took pictures of us then we took of them.
Very bad experience. The tour took only 7 minutes. Horses are smelly and old. The horse driver was rude and snub and wearing a stupid hat. She didn’t speak or turn her head to us at all, and I thought it suppose to be an informative tour. Not worth the money I paid at all. The funny thing is that in front of the passenger seat, they put a sign saying “if you like the tour tip the driver”! Yeh.. right! Time to close this company and end its crooked practice.
Super cool views at night too
Our cruise was only in Port for 4 hours so we took the carriage ride. Tara was knowledgeable, friendly, and informative. The ride was smooth and Tucker is a cool horse. If you're thinking about a carriage ride in the lovely city of Victoria, I recommend this company.
Fantastic experience ! At first glance about 25 years ago the horses looked slightly downtrodden . That was NOT the case !They were just bored . Those horses wanted to haul horse a**! And it was easy to see that this is what the horses are bred for and happiest doing . They love to work . I've been fortunate enough to visit the farm where they are kept , and a more professional , capable, loving , caring horse-looker-afters (sic) I've never met ! Kudo's Tally-Ho ! And remember folks , those horses are happiest when they get to take a group of joyful people out in a one-horse open sleigh ! Or two horse , or ... you get the idea ;) Peace
Amazing family run company! The tours are beautiful and guides always do a fantastic job, the horses are absolutely stunning and well taken care of! I’ve been lucky enough to see the farm and how well they’re treated, they are truly one big family! Keep up the great work! Cant wait for my next carriage ride!
Ashley was absolutely amazing and we had the best time with tucker our furry friend! Ashley was friendly and very informative with her tour guidance all along our trip! Thanks Ashley will see you soon!
My daughter and I took the tour through the park and she loved it. The driver was friendly and shared fun anecdotes about a number of sites. The horse seemed comfortable, and the driver gave care to signal to traffic and communicate with the horse. I don't ordinarily give reviews, but it seemed to me the carriage tour companies are getting beat up with reviews by people with an axe to grind. In NO way did the horses seem stressed or mistreated. I mean, give me a break... a Clydesdale can pull upwards of 8,000 pounds - if anything, hauling a little carriage and passengers around just bores them.
Great Experience and excellent service! We reserved 3 carriages for a short tour with our wedding party and could not be happier with the service provided. They picked up at our hotel and took us on a nice scenic tour. The drivers were friendly and knowledgeable and they even allowed our dog on the carriage with us. The ride itself was quite relaxed and was a very enjoyable way to tour a bit of Victoria. Highly recommended
Wonderful Covid friendly family activity! Staff were friendly, knowledgeable and respected Covid safety measures. Our family has now added this as an annual family holiday event. Spectacular for all ages!
Had an amazing tour, all the staff were so kind and outgoing, and you can tell the horses are well taking care of. I recommend Tally-Ho to anyone who wants a nice calm adventure.
I don't agree with the way that these horses are treated.
We were a party of three for an 80th birthday and took the new tour from Saanichton to Sea Cider and back. Both the other people had never been in a buggy or carriage before and were delighted with it. We love the slow, sometimes jerky movements and the lovely clip-clop. The tour was wonderful, taking great care to keep out of motorists way and coming back through a low-traffic route. We had about and hour and a half for a delicious picnic lunch at Sea Cider. They provided a vegetarian option as well as apple juice (not like you buy in the store) for non-drinkers. Yes, the price is high, but consider they are doing extra cleaning and care per covid requirements. They have staff, and the up-keep of the horses and carriages. The "girls" were lovely, very cute and gave us just enough information and were open to questions. I cannot say enough about the horses, we had handsome Jerry. They are beautifully groomed, well fed, sleek, and very well looked after. To those people who think that horses should apparently only be for show, what would we have done in years past? If we stop this kind of tour, these horses are very expensive to keep and would likely go to the knackers yard and wind up on some Frenchman's dinner plate. As an added bonus, the "yard apples" are great for roses! This a lovely, lovely experience you must do once in your life.
We took the tour it is imformative and relaxing..a bit expensive but so is everything in Victoria. Our driver was knowledgeable and very pleasant. A great way to see downtown.
Tucker, the horse was awesome! Friendly and learned a lot about history.
(Translated) A very nice girl, Victoria knows a lot about the history of her city, and she shared with us very interesting cases. Special thanks to Tommy Horse))) (Original)
Horses among traffic? Not very nice. Staff were aggressive, defensive and rude when questioned about the health of the horses.
We were recently visiting Victoria. We decided to take a tour of the city with tally-ho tours. We chose a tour of the city. We were taken through a neighbourhood that didn't resemble the important buildings of Victoria. When I complained about it the lady told me that we were taken to see the ocean. We were just deceived. I am just writing the review in order for people to demand what they are paying for. I am aware business is slow due to lack of visitors but what they did was totally wrong.
We went for a 45 minute tour of James Bay, and got dropped off at the restaurant where we were going for dinner. It wasn't one of their usual routes but they made it work for us! The carriage driver was great, and of course so was Sargent, the Clydesdale!
Great little excursion around town. Carriage drivers are perfect tour guides, pointing out sites of interest. Horses are very well trained. Love it!
Had a nice little ride today and the gal who did our tour was spectacular! Very nice, cheerful and even gave us some fun facts about the area!
We should probably stop forcing these creatures to work for our entertainment, especially on busy urban streets.
Took my mother-in-law for the tour through James Bay. What a great way to see the historical village. We thoroughly enjoyed it. Staff was great and very knowledgeable.
Went on a Tally-Ho and Sea Cider Picnic experiences and had the most amazing time! I have been on many Tally-Ho carriage rides but this one was my favorite! I enjoy the downtown tours but as a local and a country girl this was so much better. Love the fact that you partnered with other local businesses to provide this amazing experience. Please do this every year, I would do this over and over again!! Our driver Ashley and footer Kennedy were informative, fun, entertaining and lovely young ladies and Spot was awesome. Thank you for making my birthday so special!????
Very professional workers on the front line of Victoria’s guest services. Horses look fantastic and are undeniably loved.
Friendly and welcoming staff provide not just a ride, but an entire experience. The horses are clearly well cared for and love what they do. I highly advise a tour with this company
