Interesting historic site. Good to visit.
We came here for the Easter thing but we came away learning about fish and the cannery. It’s a relatively small museum but it’s neat. My ONLY suggestion and REQUEST is if you have loose candies maybe use a ziplock bag instead of these cheap bags where glitter can be imprinted on the loose candies. I feel it isn’t as sanitary because the bags aren’t really sealed.
Very unique goods and nice staff
I have lived on the lower mainland for years. I have been to Steveston some any times and walked by the Cannery museum. What a great historical place! Very educational, well done, informative. I highly recommend watching the introductory video. Well worth it!
Interesting place to see a bit of history.
Really cool building! Learned a fair share of how they canned fish.. can o my imagine how much this place stank when it was in operations.. anyways really cool to see
Rlly fascinating but boring sometimes
Very friendly staff and very informative
Awesome, really neat place and experience of important history! The staff was really really really nice and went out of their way to give us a great experience! Thank you Tara! We had the opportunity to see the canning line demonstration which was a bonus. Highly recommended for anyone interested in history.
This was a surprising gem. We loved the machinery and architecture and our 3 year old was captivated by all the fish and displays. Sadly though I assumed since it was indoors this would be a good place to go on a winter weekend. But the building is not heated and I was so cold I couldn’t really enjoy it as much as I’d like. Wish I knew before we came.
Visited the Cannery with my child's school field trip this morning. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable. The team at the Cannery made learning fun! The kids (and adults) were totally engaged with well organized presentation. Fantastic job! Must visit if you haven't already.
The great history of Gulf of Georgia Cannery
A place for education for salmon and nice tour guides
Excellent museum with vivid historical photos and well preserved industrial canning equipment from the last century. Nothing quite like it
School field trip. Well laid out museum with lots of interactive displays and a good blend of hands on, plus photos and replicas. A nice way to spend a couple hours in Steveston.
You can smell it as soon as you enter this building. It is "historic". It is Bilingual here. English and French, of cos.
Excellent museum... very interesting and informative. Staff very enthusiastic. $11 admission very fair.
enjoyed this place a lot and daniel was a very knowledgeable and helpful guide. so cool to have all these massive machines around you and the film at the end helped to tie everything together. i left having learnt a lot of new things and also with some smoked salmon and a raccoon plushie from the gift shop
A really interesting old factory and the guide was fun. You can learn how they worked back in the day
Very cool place!
Always a great time at the cannery! Have loved going here since i was little. Fun and engaging for all ages!
Really cool museum. Very informational. Not overly interactive, but has lots to look at and learn.
The Georgia Cannery Museum shows the well-preserved history of Steveston in one little exhibition. The industrial motors, pipes, and wheels opened our eyes to the heavily mechanized salmon industry way back in the 1920s. This is a great place to take pictures with NO FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY (prime lenses are fine) for your next adventure in Steveston :).
Very interesting historic site. The stories and building have been so well preserved. My family and I spent over an hour at the site and we all found it interesting. I appreciated that the past wasn't white washed and that the social history of the cannery was an important part of the story telling.
This was unplanned visit, and it went amazing. The museum is definitely worth visiting, you learn so much about the history and fishing. The kids ahve their all booklet so they have many things to do. I must say that every single member of the staff was nice and helpful and full of knowledge. We will definitely come back again!
We came here this past weekend and it was our first time. The staff was very helpful, friendly and informative. They gave us informations about the history of the museum, the layout and explained everything we needed to know. The museum is spacious and nicely decorated with lots of Christmas trees which museum visitors can vote for which Christmas tree we liked the best. The gift store has some nice stuff, my daughter bought a pillow and since it’s over 20$ we got a free salmon.
Cool museum, really informative and interesting BUT why was it so cold inside?! They don't heat the place so if you go in winter, you'll need to bundle up... Especially since you're just standing around looking at things, it's hard to keep warm.
It's a wonderful place for learning the history and how the fish can is been made. The staff are cute and warm heart. Gave us a unforgettable tour
A very interesting place! At first glance, it might not seem like much, but if you're into machines and history, this is a must go. The exhibits are exactly as they were when running, and the staff are very much informed and are willing to guide you through the place.
A gem of a place to visit. Stevenston area is very cool to see in the summer, with the river breeze, and many eateries and restaurants o choose from. The cannery was neat to see, if I recall it wasn't very expensive to go in and check out the museum. It's not big, but for $5 it was worth it. They sell souvenirs, and they also have a farmer's market ????
Excellent place to learn about the process of industrializing salmon and herring. Beautiful displays and super friendly staff. This is a place not to be missed when visiting charming Steveston Village.
It great place for history lovers.
One of the best museum I have ever been to. So much to see. You have to take several lefts and rights to be able catch it all. The staff is eager to tell you the history of the Cannery and the bay. The price of entry is affordable and if you are under 18 you get in free. I'll definitely be back soon.
Built in 1894. Historically, one of the province's largest canneries. Opened during COVID-19 pandemic period with directional signage and reduced capacity. Free parking.
Unfortunately this place was closed due to COVID and we were not able to get inside to take the tour. From what we saw outside it looks like it would be very interesting. Hopefully in the future we will be able to return and see the inside.
Wonderful celebration.
Great historic site to take your kids to learn about Steveston Village's fishing history. Nice gift shop inside the place. Photos © Sanjib Dutta
We have been here several times. Enjoy goung there with the grandkids
We had fun there.. with pirates
Love this place. I've come here a few times over the years and it always impresses me with the detail and unique history in this area. If you are looking to explore outside the usual Vancouver sights this is one not to be missed. Dress warm in the winter as it's not heated outside the gift shop! But don't let that hold you back from enjoying the exhibits.
History of Steveston lives here.
This National Historic Site is an amazing place. There is so much to see and look at, and you get a great combination of history and education. This is a must go place if you have never been.
A small museum that provides a vast view of how vancouver canning industry merge with social and political issues
Fantastic exhibits!
I had a great time wandering around the Cannery. It reminds me of the old cannery in Monterey California that I went to back in the late 60s. I'm glad to see some history is being preserved.
Alot to learn about the West Coast Fishing. History and present.
Learn the history of the largest salmon canning facility in BC of the early 1900's.
Great way to learn about some local Richmond fishing history
We visited the cannery on Canada 150 special offer period. Even tourist are free entry. The museum has great explanation to introduce Canadian early immigration and fishery history. The old production line is also clear demonstrated.
Wonderful little piece of Steveston history and lots of stuff for little ones to do and explore!
Fantastic museum that details a really interesting era in history. I can't recommend it enough. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, too!
Loved the all the handmade products there.
Went for a craft fair, it wasn’t very good but the gift shop had lots of lovely things for purchase and I did! Staff was extremely friendly and outgoing. The views around the cannery are just amazing! Spent a few hours at Steveston. It’s one of my favourite places
Go in the summer time . Really cold in the winter.
Great educational spot to learn about fishing and some history and cannery stuff
Great place to visit.
Very interesting history .
This was such an educational experience. There is a 15min movie that you can watch to give some details on the history. You just have to ask one of the staff to play it for you.
If you really interested in fishing and canning history of Vancouver! It's good place to visit! I study food science~ the food processing line is great!
Very educational. Great exhibits. Knowledgeable and friendly staff.
Very cool place to visit! Highly recommend
This was another big surprise. Many years back in our younger days, some of us visited this, either dragged by parents or part of a school trip. Something certainly has changed! There is quite a bit to see here now, very educational and I think worth the price of admission. Could definitely spend quite a bit of time here. Is it worth a return trip? Hmmm... maybe not unless they change the displays. Not if you've spent a few hours here perusing everything. But everyone should go at least once. Thumbs up on this one, I mean even the kids in our group liked it.
Who would have thought that a museum on the history of BC canning would have been interesting?!! -It was simple, but I found it super interesting. Detailed descriptions of how innovative people were in the early 1900's and did not have electricity, and how they used canning as a means of keeping their delicious salmon fresh! The museum also goes into detail of the struggles that the people faced on a daily basis. Loved it. Highly recommended!
Lots to see Loads of info. Staff were friendly and informative
Great experience. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable about the history of the cannery. The gift shop was great and the price was super reasonable.
It is very good museum to learn the history of Richmond.
I have lived in Vancouver for two decades and visited Steveston many times. Never thought of going into this place. Finally decided to visit today and I'm glad I did! The exhibits are well laid out and informative. The short film shown in the beginning told some interesting stories. I took my time, read everything and learned lots! And the staff were very welcoming, friendly and knowledgeable! Such a great experience! Highly recommend!
Very good. All of the staff were very pleasant. Always with a smile, very knowledgeable.,even near closing they told us to take our time. No pressure rushing people out door. We lost a small piece from my sons helmet and they let us back in to take a look. Thank you! Great management and staff. It is people like everyone of you that make us want to come back. Thankyou again. We'll be back again soon.
This is well worth an hour long visit. The real machinery from the cannery has been preserved and helpful signs and staff exlain what used to happen with canning fish. One of Vancouver area best attractions.
Great place to bring the family for the day. There are a lot of cool old things and machines to see and learn about from the museum. The guides are great and very knowledgeable about the history of this place. My kid had fun. Just heads up, there is no heat inside the museum, its as cold as the temperature outside. Came here winter time.
