Sadly a lot of Port Dalhousie near the lake is flooded. The lighthouse has sand bags around it but unfortunately they didn't stop the water from flooding the lighthouse. ????

A quiet place for a tranquil walk. Simply sitting on the bench gazing into Lake Ontario calms me down. Besides, the lighthouses live up this pier.

Perfect for walking and fishing. Beautiful beach in summer and great fishing on fall through spring.

This lighthouse on the EAST side of the Port Dalhousie waterway is accessible by car and walkway along the Waterfront Route. The marina and yacht club restaurant is also located on the east side. A lovely spot for sunset views and relaxing on one of several benches. As of April 2020, fencing on the East side prevents cars from the usual parking spaces or a good view. Construction makes it worse, before it gets better! Being patient here...soon the construction will be complete!

2 decently kept historical lighthouses on Lake Ontario. Enjoy my view of them from Lakeside Park :)

It's a pretty lighthouse but too bad people have sprayed graffiti all over the base of it. Hopefully this gets cleaned up. Lovmvely spot to watch sunsets.

5 a.m. on Aug. 12, 1898, the lighthouse was struck by lightning, caught fire and burned to the ground. The lightning struck the centre of the tower, smashing the large revolving lamp, igniting the oil and saturating the wooden structure. Capt. David Hunter, the lighthouse keeper, had just gone home for breakfast and escaped injury. When the fire was burning fiercely, the steamer Lakeside passed out of the harbour and paused for a moment to try and quench the flames. However, Capt. Wigle thought of the immense quantity of oil stored in the structure and considered it advisable, for the safety of his passengers, to continue on his course. Several tugs in the harbour also allowed the fire to proceed, fearing an explosion of the oil tank. Fortunately, there was no explosion, since the tank was split open by the lightning, and so the oil burned until it was consumed. The Department of Marine and Fisheries began construction of the present lighthouse in October 1898. The lighthouse was automated in 1968 and in 1988 it was decommissioned by Transport Canada at the close of the boating season. Ownership of the lighthouse was transferred to the City of St. Catharines in 1997 and the lighthouse was designated a historical building under the Ontario Heritage Act. The Friends of the Port Dalhousie Lighthouse restored the structure in 2000-2002.

It's sad that we are losing so much due to the rising waters. I was there the other day and noticed the sand bags out but they wont stop it if the water raises much higher. Its completely blocked off with fences due to safety hazards and the ever rising waters

I love the area, I especially love taking my dog Ziggy there for a walk. I love walking along the water with my boyfriend and our dog. It helps to take my mind off of whatever is bothering me. Just a little edition due to COVID, you must provide ID to verify that you are a resident of St. Catharines. People from out of town are not permitted onto the property until further notice.
