Awesome experience!
We had Lot of fun and they had piglets which were super cute. The museum had so much interesting stuff ????????????????
Great fun for my Grandson . Majestic Clydesdale and a fun train ride
It's a well preserved fort/community that reveals what life was like during the late 19th century in the Cranbrook region. Worth visiting if you're interested and have never visited any other sites like this.
Wow what an amazing place to visit so much history
It was very interesting... But if handicapped a little rough
Neat spot, beautiful views, say hi to the tinsmith, he is Awesome!
Not everything opened.
Not as exciting as I remembered. Can no longer go INTO the school and other buildings. We got to look through mesh fence into the buildings. Lots of stuff was locked up or roped off .. Meh
Great tour. Must do.
Great place!!! Amazing employees, very friendly and helpful. Was exceptionally happy with Samantha at the front building, what an incredible young lady!!
History preserved in my view close as possible to original. Friendly and knowledgable staff.
(Translated) Well worth the effort. A museum village has been created from the old Fort Steele. (Original) Zeer de moeite waard. Van het oude Fort Steele is een museum dorp gemaakt.
The kids enijoyed participating in a real old west town.
Loved it, it was amazing.
We stayed in the barracks with 50 kids. It was fun and comfortable. Staff were knowledgeable and friendly. The grounds were beautiful and well kept. Dinner was buffet style and lacking in cheese for the pasta but otherwise more than adequate. Will defiantly return.
An authentic heritage town built in 1898, so much to see and do. My boy loved the pony ride.
Had a blast for spooktacular, our daughter loved it, was alot of fun for us parents as well, good job guys!!
Cute but not worth admission
It is a fun day trip for the family. Lots to learn and interact with. Only complaint was the photos... we were planning to do them as a family however we weren't told appointments were needed so we missed out on something we really wanted to do.
Amazing getaway ! Vintage gold rush town! Animals! Oh my !
What a marvelous place to visit. My family as part of a larger group spent 3 days and two nights at Fort Steele Heritage Town, and we had a truly wonderful time. Our kids were able to participate in a number of lessons and activities, home-steading, gold panning, animal husbandry, old-time schoolhouse, tinsmithing, blacksmithing, leather working, wagon rides, cooking food with a wood stove, a Mountie program, and just being able to be kids. The actors are very professional and fun, the shops have many neat items, and the buildings are rich with history. Nestled in the Rockies, on a clear day you will be able to see some of the most beautiful mountains on earth. I highly recommend Fort Steele, and will be revisiting it again.
Awsome people
Was so awesome. Can just imagine how amazing it is when covid isn't a thing.
My grandson took home gold, we loved the place.
Great to visit this place as many buildings here are in their original locations. Staff are great and lots of activities to participate in as well.
Train rides are solid af.
Fort Steele is a lovely place to visit and discover historical wonders. If you're visiting Cranbrook in the summer, this is the place to go. With train rides, wagon rides, animal displays, a resteraunt, a theater, and an icecream shop, this is a Polaroid destination for families and friends. The magnificent Clydesdales are a particular favourite of mine, although the spring farm babies are a close second. ???? In the off-season Fort Steele is still pleasant, but visit during summer for the real experience. Don't forget to climb the water tower for a stunning view of the Kootenay River!
Always enjoyed it as a kid. Still enjoyable as an adult.
A great place to spend the day in the summer between the theatre shows and the train ride and all the history is just amazing
Well organized with staff in traditional garb. We went there years ago and they have added to the place.
Nice gifts.
Kids love this place! We make the trip every couple years!
It is beautiful and friendly ❤
It was nicely planned, however not much was available due to COVID. Also it’s quite small considering it’s size. Staff at the train was super friendly and I was able to learn a ton about the train. I think it would be better with guides and with shops open. Not super worth it, but not a no no either
We love the realistic period street acting that gives a perspective of how life was in the late 1800s. Clean little town with friendly helpful staff.
Most of the complex was clear see but we got to ride the train and walk through the town. Bakery was open and was amazing!
Fantastic, family friendly, wholesome fun for everyone. Been the same since I was a young boy. I could spend days there looking through the buildings and exploring the streets. Please, if you're in the area, stop and spend an afternoon.
What you would expect from a heritage town
Awesome place with amazing food
I had SO much fun at this place! There was a lot to see & I loved their food. I ate two cinnamon rolls, something I’m not entirely proud of.
(Translated) Cool and Big! Worth a trip (Original) Cool und Groß! Einen Ausflug wert
Great place to step back in time. Our 7 year old loved it and was fascinated the whole day!
They were closed to our surprise it said 4:30 but were closed before 4. Not happy maybe try tomorrow fingers crossed.
"Must go" place at least once. There also nice special events, like "night in the town", fathers day, etc. Good food in historical venues, old-style bakery and ice cream.
Very nice place to visit, with old fashioned food, buildings, old museums, etc. My only complaint was some of the prices, I get it for their original stuff but, $5 for a tin of Altoids, normally that's $2 I could see if they asked $3 or $3.50 but I think $5 is pushing it. With that said, the old scenery and the whole experience makes up for it though.
Lovely little town, but I dislike the history that it honours. Steele effectively enforced a decision to remove aboriginal Canadians off their land because it was useful to the settlers. Terrible piece of history.
We visited this town during No season. So, there is no activities. But the town is wonderful place to see late eighteen century.
The staff were very nice and friendly and there is so much to look at, everything is so well presented! My daughter loved the horses and sheep most of all!
Best heritage town in the West! Great displays, everything is well maintained, and the character actors are great.
What a cute little historic village. Tons of restored buildings and people dressed in historic garb wandering around. Their dressmaker actually makes dresses and clothes to order which was super cool. The blacksmith looked like he knew what was going on, too. I was surprised at the price as it didn't include everything and all said and done it was pretty pricey. The train ride was neat, but went through an empty field and back. I was expecting a lot more from it. Maybe a tea service, or some actors doing a hold up? All in all, we spent 6 hours there and loved it. We were able to bring our dogs in as most of the park is dog friendly (not the train or the restaurant).
Fort Steele is always fun! Spooktacular was fantastic this year!
I love the large number of buildings to visit, plus they have a newly opened bar on site!
Amazing. We rode the train and took in all the history. The animals were we'll taken care of and the staff was informative and extremely friendly.
Interesting and authentic
I love the train, just like heritage park in Calgary, a wee bit pricey thoe.
One of the best places I have visited in a long time
Absolutely beautiful......stayed overnight at the Windsor hotel nice and relaxing
township great history. theatre not worth it. train ride great and long too. didnt hear the street people so don't know about that. school house a high light esp. for kids. same with cage ride. 1. train ride. 2 school house. 3. old town. 4. cage ride. in order of bests. thanks for a great day. there were 7 on our group fro. 4 yrs to 60 some yrs.
I thought I would spend a short period of time here, but I ended spending a few hours exploring the buildings and having an excellent lunch at the International Hotel. The tour was also entertaining and informative. I went in the Fall and apparently it's even more interesting in the Summer months.
It was quaint
Friendly staff and interesting town. I love the authentic shops too!
I had no idea how cool this heritage park would be but was blown away with what we found. On assignment to capture some images for the region we made a stop at Fort Steele. The town is a step back in time with incredible detailed and well preserved history from staff dressed in character clothing and jobs around town to the collection of antiques. The location along the banks of the Kootenay river on a plateau looking across the valley is scenic. Especially with Fisher Peak and the Steeples towering in the distance overlooking the Fort. Access is very easy right off the highway only minutes from Cranbrook. The kids will also love all the farm animals throughout the property. Of course the ice cream in the gift shop and main building cafe is a treat to end your visit.
Tons of things to do around the site! Great looking back in history and great for events too!
Awesome. Adventure. Friendly
(Translated) Variety of lovingly furnished and furnished buildings (Original) Vielfalt an liebevoll her-und eingerichteten Gebäuden
Great fun and learning opportunity at the same time. Spent the night in the hotel, wonderful experience.
I used to go here every year as a kid, and decided this year to take my kids to experience it. It was NOT as I remembered. Many of the buildings that used to be staffed with actors were no longer accessible, and shops consolidated into less buildings. The Steam Train ride was still awesome and what was there was interesting, but definitely not the experience I was expecting after having so many fond memories of the attraction from my younger years.
Great Halloween festival.
What an amazing piece of history nestled within the Rockies!!
I love this place any time of the year!
Fun times in the old west! Even with reduced events it’s still a great spot. Fun history and great little preserved town. Train is fun and the horses are friendly
Great place to go for the complete family, exploring history in real life! The best attraction is taking old western styled pictures, with a big group its lots of fun and definitely worth the price!
great place to learn the history of the valley
(Translated) Very interesting visit ... full of discovery on a history that remains recent (Original) Visite très intéressante... pleine de découverte sur une histoire qui reste récente
Awesome place. I really enjoyed myself.
An amazing, educational experience!
Fall fair and historical park was awesome.
Fort steele is amazing!! Even in the winter it is really cool. Although the city isn't "alive" with actors and people, it was still incredibly cool. Without the people you can kind of go at your own pace and really experience it. The bakery was open and we got to go on a cool tour of the ovens and behind the scenes. I highly recommend visiting in winter or summer!
Totally and completely amazing. It was just days before Halloween and being off season admission was by donation. The staff member at the entrance was superb and welcomed us to enter at our will and enjoy what was to be seen. Even though no activities were taking place it was a great couple hours spent and thoroughly enjoyed the museum along with the walk around all the buildings.
Great times! Very friendly and knowledgeable staff! Definitely family-friendly!
Love this bit of history ????????
(Translated) Lets enter the atmosphere of the past of this region with old restored building. (Original) Permet d'entrer dans l'ambiance du passé de cette région avec d'ancien bâtiment restauré.
Fantastic history. Interactive staff really gives you a feel for the times. Great family outing.
Thanks again for hosting Cops for Kids
Fyi -I went during the off season. Not everything is fully open. Otherwise, stellar! Lots of space to wander. Some buildings open and not busy at all. The buildings are fascinating. Animals were still around and doing there thing. A good place to look back at what was.
A friendly informative historical place. Lot's of fun.
I found this to be a grand place to break up a road trip. Staff walking around in period cloths and little bits of historical goodies all over. The people making the different shops and places know their history. Draft horses, sheep, barn cats and a donkey all call this home. If your bringing the dog with on your road trip you don’t need to leave them in the car. Dogs are welcome in the park. Even little bowls of dog water are in the park.
This place was awesome. Great day trip from Fairmont hotsprings / Invermere. Super "cast" of people playing the part! It was pretty hot and dry but the eats in the "general store" were good. Definitely worth a trip if you are vacationing in the area. They we stopped at the tiny movie theatre to cool off and catch a movie. Really glad we picked this place.
Worth the price of admission, lots to see. Would have gave 5 stars if everything was open to view.
To not in summer
Always worth a visit but not cheap!
100 percent worth a stop. My old grumble was I wish I could have bought that mug! The beer was good and I love sitting there at 430 after spending all day in the park. The lady who gave us the horse wagon ride was lovely and nice. The theater was a lot of fun. The train was a hoot. Fun spot to stop
Love taking the kids here! Can not wait for summer when there are more things open!
Bought the yearly membership came back 3 times while we were staying in a local campground.
Great visit.
Educational and entertaining
Great family fun
Great place to stop with the family... highlight was the train ride.
Absolutely love it here, if I had one gripe though it would be the hours. This place would be great if they were open late, walking around the streets at night would be awesome.
Really great place to feel the heritage vibe.
Fun place to take the kids or if your just interested in history. We stayed at the Windor Hotel which was an amazing experience. I felt so welcomed and included. What an amazing and friendly group of people. The baker is such a busy outgoing woman who plans weddings and bakes for the whole place. We picked up some handmade chemises from the Dressmakers. All in all it was a wonderful visit, we will be returning.
Lovely old history with people who care!
Great place for kids and visitors to the area. Look out for the special events. Try the theatre out is great fun
Very good recreation of the town. Lots of volunteers from the local community
Fun place for a family visit. The summer prices are a little high, save some cash and visit in the fall if you can. The bakery makes some tasty stuff.
Great environment and super friendly staff, live plays and acts during summer months and plenty of animals to be around. Enjoy a wagon or sleigh ride depending on the time of year. Bakery is excellent as they have the best cinnamon buns around. Go for special events and enjoy fireworks and live music.
Nice place to visit. We were here during covid, so may not have been the full experience. Still nice to walk around and look.
So much to see. We came a little before everything got officially opened but it was still great to walk around and visit history. After Father's Day is when everything opens up. The staff and volunteers were very friendly and knowledgeable. We got to see baby goats, so cute.
Fun but super pricey and none of the staff stayed in character. Not nearly as awesome as I remember it growing up.
Quaint little town to visit whether you're going to learn about the history of the area, experience olden days, or just go for a walk and check out the animals. The staff are all really knowledgeable and great to talk with as well. Would recommend anyone visit and check it out.
These best ghost town
Disappointing, very run down and there was a lot that weren't open.
Great place
Very well done, don't drive by with out a stop. Great staff and displays.
I stayed at the Windsor right at the end of the season , and I still got treated like gold. Very enjoyable. Ken
It is a really fun and cool place
We visited June 3, it seems as if things are just opening up. Train rides were nice not operational yet and alot of shops were still closed. Staff were very friendly as you would expect. Lots of fun for our little one and us to see some old BC history. Dogs are very welcome to come. There are signs posted where the pets cannot be. The 1st challenge with pets is paying for entry. Send somone in to pay and get them to let you in the exit gate as pets are not allowed in the main building because there is a Cafe. Other than that, there are water bowls set up all over and staff love to interact with your pet as well.
If you want to see some Canadian and British Columbia heritage this is the place to go. For those that are visiting Canada or BC you must stop here and see a legit functioning heritage town. The stage show was fun and the bits they do throughout the park are fun to stop and listen in. Lots to see. Take a train ride, take a hay ride.
(Translated) Fort Steele is a beautiful village where you can learn a lot about the history of Fort steele. The staff is very enthusiastic and would like to show you / do everything. Next to Fort Steele is a train platform. An old steam locomotive runs here, you can ride this train to see some extra things. So Fort Steele is definitely recommended if you are in the area.
If you like historical stuff and seeing artifacts and relics, it's worth doing! Be aware they do charge separately for train rides. We really enjoyed seeing the old buildings, some crumbling down (purposely being allowed to return to the ground), the horses, and having an ice cream and a beer.
It is pretty awesome to be able to explore, hands on and interactive, with all this history! Also, check out the Masonic Lodge for a treat!
Great place to see how people lived back in the day- friendly staff and volunteers. Very interesting.
It was like stepping back in time. It was fun for the entire family.
Great place to spend the day. Kids loved it and the staff was great especially the girl on the horse carriage. We had a great talk. Love it no matter how many times I have been there
Love the old life style way of living
Haven't been in 30 years, neat to go again
Frontier heritage town that is the epitome of family friendly. Just wander round and enjoy the atmosphere or dig deep into history with lots of information. Great food and many events throughout the year with wandering minstrels, easter egg hunts, theatre and concerts. Best of all are the wonderful volunteers and staff in period costume. They'll happily chat about the mountains, history or life in the 1870's. Very kid friendly, pets too. Picnic spots abound. Sorry if this sounds like a commercial, but my family and I love Fort Steele!
Very extensive, well done slice of history
Very friendly staff, beautiful horses, and interesting scenery.
Awesome! Arrived 1/2hr before they closed. They let us stay for 1 1/2hrs.
My visit was off season but still very much worth the visit. I will definitely come back next summer.
What a treasure!! We arrived in the afternoon close to closing time but managed to make our way thru the extensive park. The guide book was $1 and a wealth of information. A well set up and maintain historical site located just above the river. For a $7 entry a super value and recommended.
Plenty of signage! Friendly staff! Fun animals to see! Well cared for gardens
A very cool place to take a nice stroll to see things of yesterday years
Great little heritage spot.
Great place to take the family.
Love the historic town. The staff is very friendly. A mix of old collapsed buildings with restored structures. Some great photo ops. In this time of increased sensitivity to Aboriginal issues, I feel, more could be done to respond in a positive way to these sensitive issues. I do have hope for the future in this historically significant area. Very pleased to have visited.
Loved it. Well worth a detour
not a bad experience but got over charged at the door and they refused to refund my extra child charge. over all a fun day !
This is a working town from the era next to a Mounted Patrol barracks. It's as authentic as these types of attractions can be. They have bread and sandwiches for sale in the bakery and tin items for sale at the tinsmith, with other similar shops. They also have a nice gift shop. The houses that are open have period furnishings and there is lots of informational displays. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit. Be aware though that it requires a lot of walking with few places to rest in the shade. It's possible to push a wheel chair or stroller but the roads are dirt and there's not always a sidewalk. To find out which buildings are accessible you would need to look at the website or contact them directly. In summary, I highly recommend a visit.
Excellent experience.
Didn't have time to tour the old town but had a nice lunch (chili) in their cafe. Mmmmm, good.
It was nice to visit and explore. Unfortunately we missed a lot of buildings due to them not being open during the slow season/weekdays. The bread from the bakery was delicious!
(Translated) A great place to learn about the history of this area (Original) Ein toller Ort um die Geschichte dieser Gegend kennenzulernen
Nice heritage town near Wasa Lake. The bakery and candy store are a must!
A wonderful experience, provides learning for any age and a important look in to the past.
Interesting place to visit, make sure to ride the train
What a wonderful heritage town! A lot of fun! The actors put on little mini-performances a different places in town throughout the day, as though "moments in the life of"; it's very entertaining. Pretty good food. You can really spend a while day there wandering, watching and interacting. Thank you!
Incredibly beautiful location, great history, and good food. Worth a visit.
Great place to visit and see some historic buildings and get the history of the town. A bit pricey and only bottled water available, but we did get complimentary cups of water at the working hotel. Lots of opportunities for good photos.
Must stop and see this old town in action. It's a must see stop on any road trip.
The place is huge and staff friendly
Great place to bring the family to learn some local history.
Cool!!! Like stepping back in time!!!
Awesome place to learn about some of the local history in the Cranbrook/Kimberley history. The steam locomotive train ride is a must. Watch for the eagles fishing in the river.
Great heritage, usually something going on. The bakery is chalk full of delicious treats.
Easter egg hunt is great fun for kids.
Gossip tour was awesome
Classic history told from the point of view of the winners of history !
Interesting things to see.
Everyone should go!
Great place to stop and enjoy a step back on time to 1890.
Interesting old West fort near Cranbrook BC. Take some time and take in some of the interesting shows that they offer.
Wish we had of had more time. Takes a while to really soak it all in. Great people and history. Live instructional and free tour information. Entry is by donation. But it's worth a few bucks to help keep history.
Gorgeous horses, great hospitality
Great experience. Makes realized that modern world wasn't always that modern
(Translated) Interesting (Original) Interessant
This was an absolute love from the first site! This heritage town is full of details, full of history. The ticket to enter the town was only I think 7 dollars per adult, but once you step into the town, you feel the spirit of those 1900s everywhere - the tiny streets, the buildings, the businesses (horseshoeing business or dentist for $1-2 dollars per tooth). Amazing work behind keeping this town the way it is. We spent there about an hour just exploring the town, and the for additional fee we had a train ride. Definitely worth checking out if you are in the area.
Interactive and fun, lots to do.
Great character staff. They make it fun
Nice place to go
Funny place to spend an afternoon
Wonderful place and we'll worth a visit.
Heard so much about it
Good to learn the history from the fort Steele' heritage
Great place . Was amazed that the place was as big and informative as it was. The price was dirt cheap. The man working in the shop was such a great soul. He gave great info about the area as well as history. Absolutely worth the stop. The live animals were a great addition to the exhibits. The train ride was the best experience..the views from the train are worth the extra price at the gate.
Always worth the visit
Excellent experience
These guys are awesome! Specially Billy! We stayed at the windsor and had a blast. Thanks for the great experience.
Lots of history, excellent actors and lot's to see
Great place to get started on learning about local history, and have fun doing so. The train will be a highlight of anyone's visit, but the wagon rides are a close second. The live theatre is also very entertaining. Lots of holiday events and seasonal activities to keep the family coming back several times every year.
Beautiful setting and loved the train
Husband loved the fact there was a pub
Loved the history and the town. It was great that it is also dog friendly.
(Translated) Only had coffee in the cafe. (Original) Alleen koffie gedronken in 't café.
Always great
Expensive
I worked there and my co-workers brought in a hurt humming bird to the cafe! There are BIRDS in areas of food service It's disgusting! Do not go here/ eat here if you value your health
Pretty cool, step back in time. Good price to.
This is always a great place to stop and explore. Check out the play at the Wild Horse Theater, go for a covered wagon ride, or take a trip on the historic steam train. Love how the cast of the play dress up and walk around town to give you that feel of what it was like so long ago. Dont forget to get some amazing baked goodies at the bakery and stop by the general store to get some yummy candy too!
Nicely curated, many different structures restored and original.
Amazing!!! Love Nugget Norm!
Family friendly.
Nice destination to relax, wander aimlessly checking out historical information.
(Translated) Very nice historical settlement (Original) Sehr schöne historische Siedlung
We can across Fort Steele Heritage town by fluke as we were heading to Cranbrook to meet up with some friends. It's well worth the stop! The town is full interesting facts. The trian ride pretty awesome and the view point the train stops at gives a great view of the Kootenay river system! The staff was enthusiastic and energetic!
Was closed today because of a concert. Too Bad...
Lots to see and do for the family great fun
Dog friendly!!! There are a few buildings you cant take your pet into. Other than that it's an awesome place. I havent been in 15 years and it hasn't really changed much. Being as it is a historic town that makes sense! Was a great day trip with the family while on holidays and we are looking forward to our next visit in a few years!
Always a fun day out at ft Steele. Love the bakery
This is a very cool place. It is great they were able to keep part of the old town preserved. The museim is very nice as well.
So much fun
Love this place! So much to see and the food is great!
A lot to see and do for the whole family. Staff are in era-accurate clothing and character, very knowledgeable and helpful. A fun time for the family.
Amazing place place to visit. The bakery is where it's at for food as well.
Nice park, very nice wagon ride. The buffet was not good ????
Way bigger and more interesting than we thought. Had a toddler and a teen with us and both had fun.
Friendly people and very informative.
Once again great show great food and nice to see and talk to the many people who work there
Awesome place, fabulous little village. You can now stay at the Windsor Hotel. Best Cinnamon buns ever. Spooktacular was a great time!
This is a good place to stop even if you don't have kids. If you like history this is a nice pit stop. We spent about 2 hrs here on the way to Nelson from Fairmont hot springs. They have food as well. Worth the stop.
Quiet due to Covid restrictions, but a very economic price to compensate for the lack of live displays
Very nice we enjoyed it a lot
Good place to learn about a history of the area.
Our over all visit was 5/5. I was with the strathcona ceremonial mounted troop 5 of us stayed in the Windsor hotel. It felt like home away from home. Very clean, quiet and comfortable. I would also like to give all the staff a 5 star rating.
Me and my girlfriend came on the off season, and we stayed overnight at the Windsor hotel, and because it was the off season, there was no one else who was staying, so we got the whole place (and 'ghost' town) to ourselves! We had such a memorable time there and will definitely be back! Highly recommended????????
Awesome place to spend at least a few hours. We ended up spending 4 hours and eating lunch there. Well preserved historical site. Turned out to be more fun and engaging than we expected. Worth the stop and glad we did.
Love this place I go every year!!
Was not as much fun as I remembered but as a Sunday late August was not busy so... Did take a wagon ride and the train all the kids loved that... definitely would go back. Just maybe plan for not Sunday 3arkuer so not rushed and hopefully some event happening.
A well done period setting village and a must see for all that travel this route.
Wonderful!
Expensive but Great place
Loved it
Great place to take the kids. Get a season pass to support the great local gem.
Most informative and lots of history told in a fun and interactive way. Entry price was very affordable and the BBQ lunch was both delicious and reasonably priced. Spent more hours there than we intented as it was so good.
An old fort kept in historic shape. Special events throughout the year which are a treat to visit with the kids. Thank you for the events!
Quite interesting historic town but it is not must-see. It might be more interesting when all attractions are open. I would appreciate more informative signs e.g. there is no information about many machines.
Wonderful cinnamon buns, great staff, fasinating
The sleigh ride around town was awesome! Driver and horses were amazing, and it wasn't too long for my little which was great!
Excellent place to spend the day. See actors in the streets and artisans in their shops and ride the old locomotive - highly recommend It!
Fort Steele Heritage Town has a real steam engine that you can ride on - worth it for all those train aficionados. There is a little heritage hotel you can experience the real meal deal at and stay overnight WITHIN the heritage town. Check it out!
Always an amazing visit. We are season pass holders and visit often. The staff are very courteous and friendly. We never get tires of visiting Fort Steele.
Lots of great history here
A great spot to go learn more about the area's hiarory as well as what life was like in the 1800s in BC.
Neat place to visit
Beautiful spot.
Quite nice historic town for affordable price. Museum and many attractions are closed (because of COVID).
Tour with Myrna ????
Great day out , extremely friendly staff. Definitely worth a visit , even with the limitations Covid has created at Fort Stee.l
Living history
Pretty cool little place. I hope they stay at it - always adding new reasons to visit
Lots of history. Very cool.
Super fun!
(Translated) Beautiful afternoon experienced in Fort Steele. Fantastic guide who brought the past to life. Allow sufficient time. (Original) Mooie namiddag beleefd in Fort Steele. Fantastische gids die het verleden tot leven bracht. Voorzie voldoende tijd.
Almost nothing open due to Covid. But still have to pay full price to get in.
Great experience, take the train and see the sights!
Its was $50 for a family to visit so we didn't. Gravel parking lot. Didn't go in due to price
Needs creativity, not many things open to see, no people dressed in characters my grandson was board. The only2 things he got excited about was the train and hay ride.
A trip back in time. Great entertainment in the theatre and on the street. Leather worker, blacksmith and panning for gold.
Fun day out anytime of year.
Graydon gave us a tour, it was very informative and he is a very pleasant young man.
Very interesting. Well worth the stop.
Was very interesting, sunny and warm. Drove an hour to get there. Was well worth it
Just an absolutely fabulous place for people of all ages. The steam train ride was a highlight and had to do it twice with my 4 year old but the rest of the town and activities were great also. The theatre show was fun and not too long that the kids got squirmy. This place is a jewel in the province and I will recommend it to many people.
Love going to the town but I wish there was more places open and more animals
Like stepping back in time
Great family place
Lovely place to take a family. Much to see and soon you can sleep in the hotel on the grounds.
Enjoyed the tour. The guide was quite informative re the history.
Nice heritage town.
We have gone here 5 times and every time we missed the train ride!
Drama, Gardens, Animals. H Clysdale horse and Carriage ride and Steam Train tour followed by tour of town and shops. Educational and Delicious with Historical enjoyment.
This is one very interesting place with lots of things to see and do. I love going there. The steam train rides, the stage coach rides. The bakery. The restaurant authentic food.
Most of the buildings were closed due to winter coming. Bakery was open so we stopped for coffee and cin buns
Too expensive entrance fee.
Cool place to check out would definitely reccomend!

Ein gemütliches Restaurant und einen kleinen Andenkenshop.
Awesome place to great history of the Cranbrook area
Greatest sleigh ride.. live music playing and wood burning stove to keep us comfy all while browsing the merchantile store.
Wow talk about stepping back in time. This is a real jam to visit, the maps they give you of the grounds is just great. The entrance has an Amazing Gift Shop, for specialty items made by the blacksmith there and lots of other goodies and collectibles to find. Make sure you have good shoes for there is so much to see and you need to walk. Takes about over and hour to see it all, read about what you are seeing from that time period. This Place will not Disappoint Young or Old, it has a bit for all to enjoy. So glad we stopped and stretched our legs on our road trip to Alberta. Will definitely be back.
So way COOL!
Great piece of history
Love this place. Always nice to visit
Strange
Great place lots of walking around so much to do.
I love this place, highly recommend it
Staff were friendly. Enjoyed the train ride, the live show at the theatre, and the blacksmith demonstration.
(Translated) Lovingly prepared village was 120 years ago. Built according to the originals. If you like history, you will like this place too. (Original) Liebevoll hergerichtetes Dorf wle vor 120 Jahren. Den Originalen nach gebaut. Wer Geschichte mag, dem gefällt auch dieser Ort.
Charming place with genuine period pieces
Wow great place. Wish I had more time to view it's all. What I seen was straight out of the 1800s. It takes you back to that era. I will go back and see it all one day. I recommend it highly.
So much fun
It was just awesome the way it was set up and told the history. I would highly recommend if you go by it. to make sure you stop
Enjoyed the historic, experience it just closed to early.
Was a wonderful experience. I have learned about the way things were. Had an awesome time interacting with the animals.
Can't wait to visit again when all is back to pre covid!
Things are quite spread out. So alot of walking in between. Wagon ride was great. Ice cream store was a wonderful find on a super hot day.
A bit odd for my liking - they only want to take cash & the little stores were strange. The kids were confused about the theme, my wife & I thought it was a bit prehistoric omish polygamy mixed with the dust & horse droppings scented of yesteryear. Wouldn't go back, but it may be fun for the old or inexperienced traveling folk.
We went on the last day in September when the train was running. I was disappointed that riding the train was an additional cost for my family. I think it should have been included with the admission fee. Also, very few buildings were open. Only the ones that had a cost associated with them like the bakery and general store. In Alberta where we live, places like Fort Edmonton and the Ukrainian cultural heritage village have much more bang for your buck with many interpreters and buildings open and accessable. Train ride, wagon ride included. We did enjoy the train and the animals most.
Not a bad place to check out on vacation
Fall Fair is always fun for kids, usually lots of craft persons booths with goods for sale.
Visited during covid 19 so not sure what its like ordinarily. Some workers in period dress but it was generally a boring place with not much to do save for the overpriced wagon ride and train ride.
Entrance fee used to be by donation, had all kinds of activities . I don't know if it's due to the covid-19, or cutbacks ,but now they charge you and there is less to do most of the attractions or the buildings are closed under lock and key.Family was very disappointted
Historic and try the cinnamon buns
Stayed in the hotel had a Christmas dinner at the other hotel and watched a movie in the theater the guy that runs the hotel was amazing it was a great time highly suggest this. It was the best Christmas party ever
Exciting to know my forefathers were hete.
What a gem of a place. Great place to visit for all. Particularly loved the general store, hardware store, museum and blacksmith. Easy to walk around and very casual. Highly recommend
While it's changed since I was a child, it remains a fascinating representation of history, from the train, to the theatre, to the street performers.
Very creative place with lots to do, the staff there really do an excellent job from the time you arrive to the time you leave, They dress and act the part amazingly, the old steam train ride is pleasant and amazing views of the mountains river. Have been a few times and sure I will be back a few more, Good job to every one working there ????
Wagon ride. Theater show. Great fun and great way to learn history. Lots to do.
Hit hard by covid so it's not staffed up with as many activities, but still full of great exhibits and townlife. Go on the weekend to get the train. Bonus points for being pet freindly.
Very therapeutic???? I just stopped there to see if the Clydesdales were around and they were. I'm not sure of his name, but this one guy came over and spent time with me, we had a good chat and he leaned down and gave me a wonderful cheek to cheek hug. He took the weight off my shoulders???? very grateful for them. I could of stayed there with them forever????????
I put off reviewing this place because it was so great, I didn't want to mess up my review. Hands down, the coolest thing I've booked and been to as an adult. My husband and I were driving from Portland, OR to New York and wanted to check out the Canadian route. When we found out we could stay over night in the park, it was a no brainer. We got there at 3:45pm, checked in and then had free reign to walk the grounds after the park was closed. The staff made us feel incredibly welcomed. The blacksmith, Cam (or Cal, I should have written it down) gave us a behind the scenes look at the smithy - both the historic one and the on-site more modern one. The site is historically impressive - a full on town from the late 1800s. Actually staying where people during the Gold Rush laid their heads was so cool. If you are looking for something wholly unique - I know that we had a one of a kind experience and you will too!
Excellent heritage town
Very good not even all open but enjoyed it great place to stop
Great for family
