One of the places you really need to visit to understand how was Montreal a les poque. I found chateau Ramezay very interested place to take a look at it either with family or friends . Recommend

Cyndy Yang

Great place that showed the entire Montreal or QCs evolvement in history. An interactive and fun way to learn. Only one star deducted for not taking advantage of using the upper floors to showcase all the owners furniture, lifestyle and all other display.

Prince Emerald

History shared in an automated way, self paced

Ferdous Faridi

Nice little museum, worth the visit. Set aside an hour and make this part of your trip.

When travelling in Montreal, everyone should allocate enough time to visit this beautiful museum. You'll be transported to Québec in the 18th century. Awesome.

Very nice museum, right in Old Montreal, steps from the Old Port. The main floor has a lot of artifacts from the when Mr. Ramezay would have been alive, including some really old legal tender from before the Bank of Canada issued legal tender. For me though, the real beauty was in a few of the first rooms you enter. The detailed wood panelling on the walls were hand carved! I'm a bit confused about their origins though as they were brought into Château Ramezay at a later date, so possibly not original. In any case, very beautiful rooms. On the basement level the walls and ceilings had a very different look and feel, and almost seemed more like what I'd expect from that era. The basement is also staged like what it would have been like at that time, so you can imagine yourself there at that time, and what it might have been like. We went during the pandemic, on a Sunday morning, and we had the place to ourselves as well, so that was wonderful. If you're going to visit, I'd highly suggest a Sunday morning if you want the place to yourself... Well, at least during the pandemic where foot traffic is likely to be less. We visited a bit early in the year, so the gardens behind the château aren't blooming yet, however the gardens are free to visit any time for anyone, no tickets required, so we'll go back in a month or so to check them out. All in all, nice château and museum, and the tickets are cheap, so I'd say worth the visit!

Amazing place! Beatiful and friendly customer service!

Absolutely love scent exposition, you could smell the scent of flowers that were sent by dad from battlefield in Europe to his daughter in Montreal. Heartbreaking story about the war, love and hope. Chateau by itself as a source and spirit of old life in Montreal.

Normand Tellier

Well explained, very nice, text was a bit small and low so it was awkward to read, but otherwise amazing

Lakshay Jethi

Nice museum and a place to host parties weddings and events. Great staff

kyle ouellette

Would have been better but COVID restrictions have made it difficult to enjoy events like this.

Sepideh S

We visited this museum in our trip to Montreal. The reception personnel were friendly and helpful. The museum itself worth visiting. It took less than an hour for us to see all the rooms, the architecture for a residential place looked nice. There is a tiny garden behind the building as well.

Nice historical place

It is very entertaining and fun to know a little history, it is a good place to bring children. you can hear a bit of history in some languages, the governor's house is very beautiful and takes you for a moment to the past showing you objects from before! I think it is very good that they show us the history of Montreal! highly recommended

Incredible amount of Aboriginal, French and British history packed into this Château! I spent hours looking through every room and taking in the history of the place. There are many items that’ll take you far back in time!

Kim S

Very cool museum! There's a really neat vault in the basement to explore and beautiful woodwork throughout the house. There's also a beautiful garden out back to explore.

Rakesh Thorat

Really nice place worth the visit for the things exhibited

Ryan Campbell

This was an amazing place, lots of history. The price of 12 dollars was much worth it. I wish we could of seen the upstairs portion of the house.

The whole place takes about 45 minutes to 1 hour to go through properly. Each room is very unique and provides a lot of history to learn. There is a creepy ghost feel I have to admit. Price for adults was under 10 bucks. Worth a quick stop.

Michael Yim

A lot of history on display from this establishment. Well laid out and managed, a must to visit.

Alexander McMaster

Interesting historical site worth a visit if you are a tourist in Montreal. On a holiday to Montreal from the UK we visited this property and would highly recommend, it gave a really good insight into both the properties history and that of Montreal as a whole.

Sascha Bragard

Interesting museum on the history of Montreal. By the way: beautiful garden.

Shreya Pawar

We had an activity pass which included one of these so we visited..its good if u are interested in Montreal's history!

Ulaş Bağcı

interesting place to visit, you learn many things about Montreal, however considering the size of the Musee, entry price can be lowered. Also, when we enter we were told that garden should be visited as well, but then when we were finishing the tour, we were told that garden is closed for some private event...that is a minus. was it so so exciting? no, it was an OK experience.

Stephanie

The staff were all dressed the part and were helpful in both French and English. A great spot to check out for a short bit of history. The garden out back is beautiful.

Anoja Muthucumaru

Small. A great place to learn about the history of Canada.

Jerry P

A quaint little museum with a lot of history. A hands-on museum with lots of interesting exhibits that showed the history of Montreal through the eyes of the various people that resided in this house.

Janice Chau

I enjoyed by visit - I love historical sites and there were a lot of interesting artifacts on the main floor. Conveniently near the metro and Old Port.

Georges Younes

Definitely one of the must-see places in Old Montreal. Château Ramezay has one of the most whimsical gardens in the city. Make sure to walk around the grounds on both sites of this historical site. Don't miss the back garden. If you're visiting in winter, you will miss most of the magic since the garden will be covered with snow.

Da S

Interesting bit of history. Staff are nice and knowledgeable. I had to run to an errand and they let me come back later that day for free. I learned a lot and still remember it more than a year later!

Ekaterina E

Nice small museum to hide from nasty weather, a must see in old town

Rana

It was a nice experience to visit château Ramezay . For the kids they will have like a guide explains in simple word the content of each room.

The château Ramezay muséum is the old house of the governor. We were curious about Montreal history. We arrived at 3pm on a Monday and got the start of a free tour, this was great. There is a section at the bottom reconstituting the different rooms of the house and how people lived at the time. There is also a nice garden at the back with all the local vegies!

Mac Armstrong

A very good museum about the early life of the Upper Class in New France, housed out of Chateau Ramezay, the original Governor's House in Montreal. Here you'll learn about the lifestyle of those living in New France, and take in a number of artifacts from the era, and up to the present day, showing how Montreal changed over time. On the second floor was a bread-making workshop, where visitors can try their hand at making bread in the traditional manner of the settlers, and even taste it after it is finished baking. Kids will have fun with this activity, and a number of other areas feature kid-friendly content. Definitely worth a visit!

Yizu Lulu Yeh

Saw only the garden of the chateau. Nicely arranged plants but not very grand in size.

Dimitri Bikas

Great historical place to learn about Canada

G Aquino

Definitely swing by if you have two hours to spare and are interested in the early and post-colonial history of Montreal. The artifacts and exhibits take you back to the city's founding and highlight the most important events in its history. The building itself is historic, starting out as the home of a former governor (after which the museum is named) and later converted to a wartime headquarters and then a university facility. For a building that is more than 300 years old, it looks remarkably intact and well maintained. Before leaving, be sure to check out the beautiful garden at the back of the museum. The museum charges an admission fee ($11 when we visited). There are restrooms and a small gift shop on site.

Kevin L

A wonderful preserved site with great paintings.

Ryan Saturley

A really nice exhibit inside a history-filled house. The guided tour was really informative... But doesn't cover the entire history or every room. They allow you to circle back after your tour to examine what was passed or items not seen while on tour. Staff was really friendly. Recommended for you history buffs, but others may enjoy this as well.

Paul T.

Great place to really understand how Montreal was in the early days of the colony and how it shaped the present.
