I found the Lost Villages muesum a very informative site. I was privileged to be one of the many who funded and erected the Memorial to the men and women of British North America's. To them who went before us, who served during the American Civil War 40,000+. We salute you! I suggest that all Canadians should make the trek to the Village to Honour them.

Please take a minute to look over all these interesting photos from our history along the St. Lawrence Seaway. So much history here. The Lost Villages Museum is located in Ault Park on Fran Laflamme Drive, 3km east of Long Sault, Ontario. The museum site consists of ten heritage buildings, moved and restored to Ault Park from The Lost Villages and surrounding townships by the members of The Lost Villages Historical Society. Both the interiors and exteriors of the buildings have been restored, and they have been assembled in a village-like setting at Ault Park. The buildings commemorate the inundation of lands to the south of the museum complex on July 1, 1958.

Except for artwork on display, much was typical. I grew up in the 50's and was familiar with the history of the area and the type of buildings

What a neat spot! The buildings themselves are fantastic and very interesting to visit and go through, especially the schoolhouse and the old house. Two of the buildings are locked and require the site worker to come in with you as their is lots of old stuff in them. The only reason I am giving it 3 stars is because the girl who was working there wasn't great. She looked like she hated working there. She wasn't very friendly or talkative at all. You would think that working here you would know a bit about the history of the buildings and you'd be more friendly. All in all, a neat place to visit but the employee was very off-putting.

Free place to visit with the kids, neat to checkout all the stuff and look inside the various buildings. The history of the changing landscape is the main focus (man made flooding). They have special events such as Art in the Park where there are local venders and food/drinks/music available too. Large grassy area and access to a nearby biking trail here too.

Great place to check out and learn the history on the flooding of the St. Lawrence. It’s such beautiful spot to go to in the fall, very well taken care of and has a nice long walking path right there.

This is a worthwhile look and what village life might have looked like before the surrounding area was flooded as a result of the construction of the St. Laurence Seaway. Of particular interest is the restored 100+ year old home. There are many artifacts here donated by families of the area. There is a room dedicated to the impact of the Order of Freemasons. I was unaware of their origin and history. It is very worth a visit.

This place is amazing, since coming from Europe I know well this place would work for less than a week and half of the items were missing. Worth too see how a doctor lived 210 years ago, actually even today his house is pretty big.

Kevin O'Shea

Nice place. Self-guided tour, but we bumped into some local folks who told us a lot about the history. Nice day. I’d say it wouldn’t take more than an hour or two to explore if all the buildings are open.

Back in 1958, Canada and USA had to improve the way ships travelled up the St. Lawrence River due to the many rapids. The city of Cornwall built a power generation plant/dam which flooded the St. Lawrence River basin and many hamlets and villages were flooded. Why did we not learn this in school? The Lost Villages Museum has a few of the original buildings that were saved and much memorabilia to see and learn from. There's a house, library, school, driving shed, church and train station. There's also a store that sells books, post cards, CDs about this time and ice cream and drinks. This is all free to boot. Thurs is a place you need to discover yourself. The Long Sault Parkway is also close at hand and is worth the drive. There's camping, swimming and fishing as well and the causeway linking the islands is only 11 kms long. Get out of the house and see what there is to explore.

Beautiful place for a wedding in the church at the Lost Villages Museum. It's a little small, but makes for an intimate wedding for a small group of family and friends. Cute historical buildings, cool place to check out. We three girls (W3G) and company have a trade show a few times through the year there. I believe they have one coming up Sunday, October 17, 2021.
