REVIEWS OF West Montrose Covered Bridge (Kissing Bridge) IN Cambridge

John A. McDonald

The kissing bridge is what the West Montrose covered bridge is commonly referred to as here. It is well worth the visit with parking only half a block away on the south side of the bridge. You often see Mennonite buggies going across this bridge as it is in the middle of Mennonite country.

Samantha F

It's a bridge. That's covered. Not much else to say. Watch for oncoming traffic.

Kornél Kalotai

Beautiful bridge in a gorgeous area! We visited because we'd like to see one of the places where the movie "It" was shot.

Carlos Radic

Enjoy the serenity but respect the people that live in the area. A quick lunch in the park area, some pictures of course. Leave the place like you found it

Karl Morant

Meh, it would seem that the locals don't want us there.

Greg Ferguson

Locals have purchased every scrap of land near and around the bridge. There is no public access to the river at all there. This makes it a challenge to actually see the bridge or walk over it as the active road has no walking areas. A shame as it is such a beautiful old structure and should have a means of public enjoyment.

Brittany Trommelen (Btromm)

Cool landmark to check out! Only covered bridge left in Ontario!

JC

Beautiful covered bridge spanning the Grand River. Lots of beautiful old field stone buildings. Make sure to park in the little information area parking lot. The local residents seem to have had their fill of tourists, plenty of signs make that clear.

Mel Roman

Picturesque - great place for a bike ride. Close to access point for the G2G trail.

David S.G. Min

It might have some historical value. Otherwise, kind of overrated.

Booyaka Stubbs (ExplorewithStubbs.com)

I wish my parents were alive to see and experience this place. I believe it is the last covered bridge in Ontario. It is one way traffic with one car at a time. You can go back through as long as the traffic on the other side has stopped. This is a pretty location but there isn't many view points as the property near the bridge is owned by the people nearby and have it roped off and have no loitering signs posted. This is also a film location, the horror film IT was filmed here as well. There is a little parkette near the bridge for parking but it can hold maybe 10 cars at the most. Nice little day trip, glad I got to see it.

Kathy Loree

Neat to see and experience. Picturesque.

shawkat milton

its really amazing! This architectural design is very different and maybe the only one in Ontario. Realy nice it is and the neighbourhood.

Aaron Wouters

A beautiful picture perfect bridge

Kurosh Fazaei

Go there with your loved ones. ????

Pink (Lea)

Gorgeous bridge. I was warned by a neighbor who lived there not to donate to the ' covered bridge charity box' that is just outside of the bridge and that it actually doesn't go to the bridge but to a person or persons that extort the tourism there to make money. I also noticed if you wanted a picture of you by the bridge on the grass, you were requested to ask the owner and pay....... tacky imho

Peter Kim

Only one Covered Bridge in Ontario. There are free parking space near bridge. But unfortunately we can't access river.

Stefan P

One of the best things to do in the Kitchener Waterloo area. The West Montrose Covered Bridge is the last covered bridge in Ontario. Picturesque with amazing scenery in the area. Quiet and light traffic, especially in the morning, so lots of opportunity for great photos. Heaps of free parking and informative signs for those that want to learn more. Not sure what the big deal with the negative comments are. Don't step on other people's property, two bad if you can't get a better photo!

Robin

Not as long as I expected. A nice short walk.

Tanujit Laha

Good place to visit for few minutes...

Rob Cameron

Great treats at the Lost Acre Store!

Elizabeth Dias

Loved it . It was too cold but we loved it!

Marcie Frewin

Construction on the bridge so can not walk across it right now or get certain photos without construction signs in them. It is a nice thing to see though, especially in fall

Adam B

Amazing bridge with tons of historical value, and pop culture now as well!

Amanda Nothanks

A wonderful piece of history. I don't know why people left such bad reviews, everyone we came into contact with was kind. Would recommend.

Joselyn Schmitt

Saw a sign of a covered bridge will driving on the main road, so we turned off and checked out this covered bridge. Beautiful scenery too

Ryan Ruthart

Cute little stop to see the bridge. There is not much to do other than view the bridge, about 10 minutes is all you need. Unfortunately all of the land around the bridge is private property so you cannot even sit near the bridge and enjoy it. Only those with enough money to afford it are able to enjoy our public treasures. I would love to see this land restored to the people so we all can visit this land mark and hang out. There is a public parking lot near by but you cannot see the bridge from it. While we were there none of the private land owners were using the space but nonetheless we are denied.

Alessandra Farrace Salvino

So beautiful along the banks. Great ice cream at the store just up the road too!

Kevin Harper

Of great historical value. Also try the Maple tarts nearby.

Nas

Nice preserved bridge, private lands around it though. I couldn't venture close to the river, fences and private property signs around it. I would still recommend a stop if you're in the area. We stopped from our visit to Elora.

Edward Johnston

1824 they certainly don't make them like this anymore

Jeff B

A nice piece of history. A must visit when your in the area. Definitely worth stopping and taking a few pictures.

Stela Baban

Beautiful place to visit, the sightseeing is gorgeous. Lots of visitors

Gayle Labuz

A neat little site to visit as a detour on the way to another destination. You really don't need more than 10 minutes here. The bridge is pretty and offers a nice opportunity for a few photos. It's cool if you happen to be there when a Mennonite cart is crossing the bridge. The clip clop of horses hooves will make you feel as though you have stepped back in time. Watch for traffic if crossing on foot or bike. Stop in at the little general store, run by local Mennonites. The fresh baked goods are excellent. We're big fans of the sugar cookies!

phraseography

Yes it's just a covered bridge but once you see it in person it's more... not sure how to describe it's rustic beauty. It's one lane so be careful driving across it and there is a small parking area on one side.

Harneet Singh

Historic spot. The last covered bridge in Ontario. Good day trip from Toronto to experience the countryside or a quick outing for folks from Waterloo region. 1. Cars and pedestrians use the same bridge. Only one way traffic at a time so be careful. 2. Parking is free nearby at a picnic spot but not too many spots available. 3. All private houses/land nearby so you can not go near the water.

Mrs. Gagnon

Lovely people, amazing baked goods and a good assortment of bulk baking supplies

Lisa Maldonado

We saw a gorgeous blue heron fly in and land right beside the bridge...and a small animal that might have been a river otter! And of course I got some butter tarts and some excellent buns and gluten-free sausages at the Mennonite store there. Such a beautiful place. It's a wonderful bike ride there from either direction along the G2G trail.

Brian Gonsalves

If you need a reason to get out, experience some history. It's worth the trip to this historic covered bridge.

Jemy Joseph

A cute stop over on a road trip

Kristy S

Super cute historic little road trip to see the Kissing Bridge. Wearing a mask definitely helped as you walked through the bridge to mask the smell of horses. Seeing a horse and buggy ride through the bridge made it feel like we were in a different century. If you walk up the road a little but there is another placard that describes the bridge in more detail. Super safe to drive to different local history spots and learn something about what's in our own backyard!

Eri Mott Nakahara

Picture perfect on a sunny blue sky day, but once you see the covered bridge, that's it. Perhaps the locals know of more places to see around it but other than the bridge, there weren't much around it to see.

Michel Brown

It is a lovely covered bridge. There is a small parking lot and picnic area on one side of the river that has trail maps just down from the bridge. On the other side of the river, there is a small general store that has ice cream and coffee among other items.

Rod Sehnke

A nice piece of history. Well worth the drive which is quite scenic.

Shushana Pat-Dan

Beautiful...a short visit but recommend the place

gervais corriveau

Beautiful scenery, not a lot of parking spots available but it's worth the view.

Taekwondo Time

Probably the most disappointing landmark in Ontario due to the most OBNOXIOUS property owner who has fenced off ALL of the surrounding property and placed "No trespassing" signs every 10 feet, meaning you have to stand on the ROAD to admire the bridge. This is a perfect example of why people should not be allowed to privatize property near water or around historical landmarks. Greed takes over and the possessive nature of people to own and control everything in nature ruins it for everyone else.

Patrick O'Donovan

Pretty little bridge!

Teflon121

Nice covered bridge. Only one in ontario

Thomson Thomas

Very calming and peaceful place. Lots of picnic spots.

Lucy Zhang

The historical site.

Emily Shannon

Nice weekend roadtrip type attraction. Doesn't take long to see it, but there are walking paths in the area and picnik tables in the park. Can get busy so parking can be tricky with only a small parking lot. Local residents do not want vehicles or people on their property and signage lets you know where you can wander while looking at the bridge.

Dayana Ocampo

The only remaining covered bridge in Ontario! Beautiful bridge about 75 paces long, constructed over the Grand River in 1880-1881. Located in the heart of a Mennonite farming community. Hence the quaint well furnished old-fashioned general store nearby and locals driving their horses and buggy rigs. On a romantic note, it is also known as the "Kissing Bridge". Story has it that "local girls learned to be wary when their escort's horse stopped inside the bridge without any command from the driver". On the flipside, some scenes of the movie "It" were filmed around the covered bridge. Some fans of the horror movie who were there taking pictures with a red balloon told me so. Enjoy the pictures...

stewart smith

West Montrose makes a great destination to bike from Elmira along the G2G trail. Lovely green tunnels along the trail. Ice cream at the covered bridge. If you want to get back in the trail to head east, the carry down the steep stairs can be daunting.

Sadruddin Usman

Very enjoyable trip to St Jacob's. Will vist again next year, God Willing.

Abram Martens

This is a beautiful, historical bridge. The surrounding area is very quiet. Perfect for quiet walks, with Lost Acres close by to supply you with ice cream and drinks.

Letitia C

We just did a little walk across but super cool to see this historic site. Fyi bridge will be undergoing construction and closed according to a a sign in 2022/2023.

Tim Taylor

Really cool place for a short stop

succulentfire

Nice relaxing area

Desanges Duguay

Love the West Montrose Cover Bridge. A very peaceful place to visit. It's the oldest Cover Bridge in Ontario. It's call: "The Kissing bridge". People who gets married goes there to take pics. There is an old Mennonite store with good pastries. Let's go there and visit!

Bryan B

Highly overrated, and no one kissed me when I arrived. I waited for a long while, to no avail, for someone give me just a peck on the cheek. Nothing. I'm disappointed, needless to say.

Terry

very well maintained, unique bridge, informative historical sign, great photo op

Henrys' Vlog

Really Beautiful place(bridge too old-a lot of small hole on the wooden wall. but still worth visit ) limited parking[my suggestion is park your car in Letson park(FREE parking.not far at all)and walk back], and if you want to go to the shore(clear water~), walk Rivers Edge Dr (Go East, no too far-check photo :long public shore----my suggestion: bring a kayak ) a lot of Mennonite family live this area(you can see their horse carriage passing by ),make sure say hi( by the way, they do speak English, men are friendly, girl Shy-you can talk to them, be friendly )

Shadow_ bonbon

There's a bunch of construction equipment and signs and pylons blocking the bridge to traffic... so must angles of the bridge you aren't able to take pictures of. Surrounded by private property... you can't roam around to get the best view.

Lynda Reynolds

One of the last of its kind in Ontario!

W.E Samuel Strain

Amazing place will be back !!

ZH W

This is not a place can give a surprise when you take the first look, but after combined blue sky, green grasses, and red bridge, you will sink in a masterpiece

Massimo Francescangeli

Lovely spot. Make sure you kiss your partner or it is bad luck.

Ofer Livni

Beautiful bridge

Christopher Labrador

Lovely area. Last bridge of its kind in Ontario. Wish there was more access to the Grand River.

John Lewis

Beautiful place to unwind or go for a walk in the country.

laurel allen

I didn't know what to expect when my niece said that we should drive to the covered bridge. This beautiful spot is what I experienced.

Erum Ahmed

Beautiful place but with limited parking and no public place to go to the shore.

Michinari Hashimoto

It takes about 90 minutes from Toronto to the Covered Bridge, and you can make the transition from the big city to the tranquility of the countryside. On the side of the bridge is the Lost Acre Variety, where you can buy hot coffee and rustic pastries and breads.

Stacy Rosien

Great road trip stop for a picnic and a visit to one of Canada's historic covered bridges. Take a walk across and grab some homemade piesor some ice cream at the Lost Acre Variety.

Carptarts

Saw IT. Had to go see the bridge that was in the movie. You should go too. This area is beautiful and historic.

Abhijit Panja

Let's travel during Winter to get absolute stunning scenery.

sherri

The Kissing bridge. So unique. The town is beautiful and relaxing. Perfect for photos and a nice walk.

Jordan Van Wyk

It’s a wooden bridge with a roof. Not too exciting. The surrounding land is privately owned so there’s no place for a picnic or even really to get a nice picture. A novelty worth seeing if you have some extra time on your hands

Darryl Chamberlin

The "Kissing Bridge" in West Montrose is the last covered bridge in Ontario. Having come from the Maritimes I have seen a few a these marvels! But apparently this is one of the originals and oldest in the country. This is a must see if visiting Waterloo Region, the town is beautiful and well deserved of such an important landmark in our Canadian history. Hope this gem is around for another 150 years!

James Cullin

Beautiful structure

Kim Lamonday

Worth the drive to see it. We were lucky and saw a horse and carriage cross too.

Tom Bomhof

A beautiful heritage site.

Steve Mohr

Mennonite Roots country at its finest...yes the bridge is repaired and open again...

Cristina Almeida

Taking these small moments and embracing all the beauty the world has to offer is truly a blessing. Hearing the wind through the trees, the leaves crunching underneath your feet and seeing the simple pleasures in life - Visiting the kissing bridge was just that.. such a beautiful wonder Ontario has to offer especially during such a beautiful time of the year. Photography is a passion of mine and having the chance to capture that beautiful bridge was an experience I’ll never forget. @coffeemeetscreativity

kandys manbodh

Beautiful piece of Ontario history

Tracy, Brad and Blaire Bauman

Great place to go with motorcycles.

Shane Graham

Beautiful history bridge!

Melody Pershad

So pretty.

Corey Hallman

Beautiful old covered bridge well maintained

matty P

Im not going to add another picture of the exact same thing, i suppose if you're driving to or from somewhere its not a bad place to atop by but this isnt anything special lets be honest

Brian The Reverend Tholomew Plague

It's okay not much to look at tho

Aux PD

It's some what off of the main trail. It's better to drive here first if heading to the trail itself.

Albert Francis

It was very rustic. Unfortunately no access to the river. All marked private property.

Andrew Yang

Nice and calm, no traffic's. Great view of the nature

Victor Ciubotariu

Nice quick stop if you are in the area.

Bri Guy Douglas

Amazing bridge.

jennifer putman

Beautiful backdrop for family photos.

Jake Walker

Very beautiful but deceiving where the trails are. You have to go about 1 km up the road to get to it. And the bridge is cool in that it's a heritage site but since cars can drive, it doesn't feel safe walking on, especially with a kid.

Barry James Montrose

We visited this bridge for a few reasons 1, I am a Montrose and loved tge fact it's names after my Family name 2, this is the bridge from the recent IT movies and 3, it's beautiful. 100% recommend visiting this place

Michael

Very cool

Ruth Morton

Such a nice area! We parked at the picnic area and then biked along the Kissing Bridge trail before returning for a treat at the Variety Store.

one inamillion

Such a unique and beautiful place

Aarohi Pathak

There is a small area where you can park the car. Hard to find a spot for pictures or to even sit anywhere as the surrounding land by the river creek is bordered off as private property which seems a bit odd. Still a great place to visit. IT movie fans will specially enjoy this location as a scene from the movie was filmed here !

Richard E

Lived in Toronto all my life, had no idea we had a covered bridge here in perfect condition .

Matthew Agro

Awesome little wonder in Southern Ontario. Take a cruise and snap a couple unique pictures

Dave Waddling

Great historic site

Sinloaf B

It’s very nice to go to a chill at

Brian Dixon

Unique bridge originally built in 1880, The only remaining covered bridge in Ontario. Also known as the Kissing Bridge. Make it part of your next drive.

Alan Kwok

Nice bridge to visit if you are in the area of St. Jacob's

Peter Burian

This is the last remaining covered bridge in Ontario. (Some 200 still survive in Canada, mostly in Quebec and New Brunswick.) It's called The Kissing Bridge by locals. Built in 1881 it is maintained regularly and is still in use for pedestrians and cars ... and the occasional Mennonite horse and buggy. The banks of the river here are all private property, and so marked. Please respect that. It's in the small hamlet of West Montrose, off Line 86 near the exit for St. Jacobs, easy to find on Google Maps. There is a small parking lot after you cross the bridge, with space for about 10 cars. If you are in the area, it's worth taking a few minutes to see it; a plaque on site provides specifics about the history of the bridge.

Alessandro Malusà

Possibly one of the most famous historical sites around. I was not particularly impressed.

Raki Anam

Nice, quite area near KW.

XIAOGANG ZHU (Jayden)

A very old bridge with historical representation. The surrounding scenery is beautiful!

Casey

Loved exploring the bridge and learning its rich history!

Glen Heise

Fantastic ...you can drive through it , and the community around it is just as enchanting.

Jonathan Xu

A quaint place to visit on the weekend

Charles Camperdown

Great for a walk in summer. Kissing Bridge is oldest such bridge in Canada. The Kissing Bridge Trailway passing the nearby Leston Park is ideal for cycling, and it connects the deepest rural communities and goes through Mennonite Country all the way to Guelph. You can also have a picture of typical southwestern Ontario in a sense of traditional Mennonite or Amish country. Just be mindful of the private homes in the area and always be kind and respectful.

Rene Letoile

Very cool old bridge, sat under for lunch on a kayaking trip.

Hassan kianmehr

Nice place, especially in evenings.

Adrian Hey

Amazing part of Canadian history

Sherman D'Souza

Nice little bridge. No parking around if you want to take pictures.

John Elkin

Nice and scenic

Dee Kennedy

I am Giving 5 stars to the Bridge but no stars to the people that live in the vicinity that post there property with obnoxious signs to keep off there property! I was under the misguided thoughts that the Grand River had access to the river but the local property owners have put chains and signs to the access points . Don't know who is breaking the law but they call the Police if you put a foot on their lawn and I mean a foot next to the road. I do not recommend visiting this beautiful Covered Bridge due to these obnoxious people!

Jen Walker

Fun fact! Scenes from the movie IT were filmed here. It's a great little spot for film buffs to snap some pics for nostalgia. It's also significant as the last covered bridge in Ontario and one of the oldest in Canada but double check that info. Now this is a small spot to visit. Lots of private property spaces with appropriate signage to let you know. Not a place for big family visits or big day trips. But it's a great little spot for local history buffs and film buffs.

Ken Gee

1st time. nice interesting place to vist. 30 motorcycles sure can make some noise..lol

Rica Coops

Pretty but very busy even if ut is just a few cars per minute...as it is narrow. All properties around it are private so have to stay on the road

Jetlover X

Lovely bridge with an amazing color - loved it!

Jeff Davies

Fantastic quaint bridge in idyllic small village. Great for a stroll. Lots of horse and buggy traffic on Sundays.

fcsquire

Historic bridge that brings back memories of my childhood and visiting it with my family growing up. Unique and beautiful, this bridge is a landmark that's worth seeing for yourself. There are some nearby hiking trails.

Katie Kish

Very interesting old bridge, lovely old wood and construction. Nice to walk on but not a whole lot to see. The stores around it are cute but over priced.

Paul Tuck

A quaint, beautiful stop. Only problem is that river access is limited. There is a parking lot though.

David Haycock

Pretty cool heritage spot. Not far off the beaten path. Could be part of good bike ride. It is on an open road. Be careful when kissing, on the kissing bridge!

Ferdinand Bellavance

This bridge is well built, heavy wood beam, very interesting

Jay Menard

The bridge is beautiful. The people living around the bridge may be a little too grumpy. You're living next to a tourist attraction... You have to expect people. We were extremely considerate and respectful of the land, but being glared at by locals is a little much.

Miranda Cooking Arts & Adventures

A quiet place to hike or cycle. Mennonites past by in their baggies often. There is a convenience store where you can purchase canned and jar items.

Mark Sharkoff

Covered bridges are great . Originally designed so horses and other animals would walk across rivers without getting spooked in my humble opinion.

Kate Cormier

Lovely, well maintained piece of history

Michelle Kelly

Beautiful place

Scarey FX

Very neat bridge to check out.

Doug Maude

Very cool

Matthew Abbott

Gorgeous place to visit

Rochelle Barker

Definitely a spooky vibe when you visit... not because the movie IT but because the troll who lurks and chases innocent passerby's away... beware crossing... #1250.

Steve Brown

Cute place to visit!

Graham Wilson

Pretty. Parking nearby.

Kevin Smith

Nice bridge, though there is no separate walkway for pedestrians, which feels unsafe. Scenic area. Variety of house architecture.

Ken Aarts

A little bit of scenic charm

Jasmeet Singh

A historical landmark in waterloo region. Nice little wooden bridge with historic significance nestled between private and public spaces. One way street when it comes to traffic, always yield to on coming traffic. Park at leston park and then a 2 min walk to the bridge. On a bright day pictures would be amazing. Happened to visit in a rather cold and drizzly day. Still gorgeous views of the bridge and Grand River

Anna Taylor

Adorable town with a gorgeous bridge and minenites in their traditional dress and horse buggies.

Mike Tomlinson

Great old bridge. People around it are a bit crusty about parking, but very much worth a look!

Valerie Cheaney

Worth the drive any season to see, drive, photograph the covered bridge.

j z

Good place to stop by, movie place

Terry Munro

.interesting lace to visit.

Jerry M.

Great picture opportunity with a lot of history in one of very few covered bridges in the province. Like something out of a movie. Definitely check this out and a little gift shop on one side of the bridge with great prices.

Moisses Reinhard

I accidentally found out about this, and so we drove the extra hour from where we were vacationing to check it out. It is open to vehicles, despite an earlier review. We took some nice photos and enjoyed the morning and beauty of the area... and people enjoying the water.

lamisa malik

Nice

Dennis Voß

Nice spot of the old days. With some luck you even can see some Mennonites crossing the bridge with horses. Neighbours don't seem too happy to see visitors.

Jeniffer Vieira

There is parking just before the bridge across from the store. Respect the privacy of the residence nearby and do not trespass. You can walk across the bridge but it is still used by vehicles so pay attention to traffic. It's beautiful for pictures and historical value, since it's the last covered bridge in Ontario. Make sure to visit the Mennonite store before leaving and support the community.

Esther Farr

We biked here from Elmira along the kissing bridge trail. There's a public spot out of the view of the bridge where you can have a picnic. No toilets. Everything around the bridge is private property and very clearly marked as such. It was fun to see and to bike here. Would be nice to have a place to sit closer to the bridge.

jeffrey macneale

Nice to see

Dan Kennedy

We took our classic cars thru the bridge while we were out for a Saturday cruise. It made for a great photo opportunity and my wife and i kissed when i stopped part way thru .. hence the nickname kissing bridge .

K R

Beautiful old bridge, dates back to 1881 when it was built, it is the last one of its kind in Ontario. It is a one way only bridge that no heavy vehicles can cross. There is a parking spot on both sides for people to get out and see it, on one side there is even a picnic area with Johnny on the spot. When in the area stop and see it.

Renate Vdz

Always cool to see out history. Nice area to visit

Lou Choi

Good bridge. No as long as the one in New Brunswick, but good enough. There is also a very adorable cat around.

Christy JWX

Wish there was some kind of trail around! This bridge is close to where I live so it was easy for us to drive and then just go home, however if you are coming from somewhere far it might not be as convenient.

Darrell Parsons

Lorenzo Nigro

I feel I must post a little update We were looking for a place nearby the bridge and most comments said there was nothing ... Wrong Had a beautiful picnic lunch with my wife Once you are over the bridge just drive on little bit further and there is a designated picnic area. Spectacular spot we had a few people stop and take pics but Noone there at all really ... relaxing spot with views of the river and a municipality maintained parkette

Beautiful place! Lost Acre Variety is a must visit!

Jeanette Moreau

love this area very much. stop in at the country store right before the bridge. Delicious home baking and they have a great chicken asparagus pie.

Stephen Vinette

Great historical site, glad we went and looked around !

Amanda Heiser

The bridge is a great site to see! Apparently its the last covered bridge in Ontario. You can get some great shots of the bridge, however the area around the bridge is privately owned and the owners want cash from professional photographers, to step foot on their land. Many signs in the area say, “Private Property!” “Keep Out”, but my favourite is, “Don’t even think of parking here”. I guess the people in the area, don’t like the tourists.

Heather Elsley

Very cool.. beautiful spot. The lost horizon store is open right now too! Great grocer for baking needs ect..

Karen Downie

Such a beautiful little place. Nice location to take pictures!

Wendy Cooper

We brought my cousin Ellen from Alberta. We were trying to take a selfie and a man from Harriston who was visiting his daughter offered to take our picture. His daughter had just moved in to a house beside the bridge. It was amazing!

Brian MacIsaac

Take a short detour to the past. It's not much but it is a nice little bridge on a lovely bit of the Grand river. It only costs a minute or two to check it out. You may even stop at the nearby park or Lost Acre Variety and love it!

Doug Chumley

Very cool place. Also know as the kissing bridge, pucker up!!

Cyndi stead

Awsome place to visit neat to see a covered bridge

Douglas Baird

Cool old bridge with a long history! Still neat to drive through after all these years!

The Reever

Beautiful spot, hard to enjoy more as all property right up to the bridge is privately owned.

Sarah B

A nice area any time of the year for a little walk. Just be cautious of traffic since there aren't any sidewalks though.

Teresa Maki

Nice historic place to visit. Wont find another one anywhere in Ontario as it is the only one still standing. It is also the second oldest bridge in the region, built in 1881

Lorena Martini

Took photos with my Canon. There were a few families walking in the area. First time visiting in the winter.

J Linnerth

Real piece of history, very picturesque area.

Younas

The whole experience of visiting the area/neighborhood is amazing. Beautiful horse carts, smiling faces and Amish neighborhoods, historic houses and gem in itself the covered bridge.

I grew up in Elmira. Except as a baby or young child, I've never been here. Wanted to for years. Definitely worth the stop. Next time, I will take more time to explore and plan to enjoy the icecream offered for sale in the shoppe just north of the bridge.

Make sure to check out lost acre variety where Vera and the bakers produce some excellent quality Mennonite baked goods. Highly recommended.

Pam Tuck

It is still a lovely bridge, but the surrounding are is more developed now so it is not as picturesque and difficult to enjoy the beautiful surroundings.

Tiarah van Woerden

Very special. It's the only covered bridge left in Ontario.

Enika Devine

The last covered bridge in Canada. How can you go wrong? Beautiful location. Nice picnic area

John

Very nice place to get out to. There is limited access though. Private property and no trespassing.

Angela Vieth

Coolest covered, bridge ever! Worth the drive to West Montrose. While you're there check out the Lost Acre Variety store. Anything you need. I picked up fresh Christmas baking and checked out the beautiful handmade quilts. #mennoniteculture #heritage #tourwaterlooregion

Lauren VanderWal

Beautiful bridge that brings out the romantic in everyone! We enjoyed resting in the park nearby, as a visiting violinist serenaded the tourists.

Tandoori Xpress

Great place to visit nice and peaceful but no access to water only 1 variety store which only accepts cash

Chris

Picture perfect place. Only down side is access all around the bridge is private property, so access is limited.

Historic and famous site.

ron hammond

Nice quiet spot

Q & A

A beautiful and historic site. Mysteriously random red balloons appear at the bridge. Did you know that the movie IT was filmed at this bridge.

Stewart Slaymaker

As the only covered bridge left in Ontario, this is your only chance to see a bridge like thus without travelling much further afield. It can be difficult to get a good spot of a photo of the bridge as much of the surrounding land on all sides is fenced off as private property. There is a small park on the south side of the river where you can park though. There isn't much else to see in West Montrose, but the bridge makes for a nice stopover if you're travelling locally.

michelle chiaverotti

A beautiful location and a historic sight. Quite easy to find with the GPS

Craig Murdoch

Worth the visit! Everyone should see this historic bridge.

Steve- YYZ

Nice place for photos but watch out for ornery locals.

Julie Mcqueen

The Bridge is beautiful! There were lots of people! But the residents have fenced of grass areas so taking a great family picture will be hard and residents were not welcoming and one followed people and video taped everyone, made us feel very unwelcomed!

Ali Abu-Ghosh

Very peaceful abd lovely scenery

Alexandra Nicholls

We have had several pictures taken here, and we just love to visit. Unfortunately it's not a public area and the grass by the river is privately owned. Most of the owners have private property signs, and even want a cut of your photographers take! Beautiful place to visit and see, but hard to get photos professionally done unless you trespass, or pay an arm and a leg.

As you may see from the photos, I carefully and craftily snuck up on the actual covered bridge by following a trail. Figured there are enough photos of the bridge, but what about the nearby trails? They deserve photographic love too. The bridge was nice, the history behind and around it was fascinating. The trails were also quite nice. Well marked, and lightly travelled, the latter of which surprised me.

Terry Kozak

What a great piece of history. It's awesome that we are still able visit places like this. Viewing is a little tough but with traffic being very minimal all was good.

Debbie Taylor

I love visiting this bridge. It is so wonderful that this is a treasured part of our history and community.

Melanie Soo

This cute covered"kissing" bridge is a spot you don't want to pass!! If your in the area or looking for a day trip (depending the distance) stop here and enjoy a piece of history. And for those who are looking for the perfect selfie background or the perfect shot for your ride...stop here, you'll be happy!

Jane Frizzell

Love this place. One of Ontario's little wonders. We biked from Guelph (Marden rd) to this bridge and back again. Took us 4 hrs in total. We even had a little picnic once we reached the bridge. Great way to spend a day in nature and exploring. ????

Shanice Bedward

Such a beautiful quaint community. Packed with so much history!
