Love the Heritage Village, go on a weekend and you’ll get a taste of the 1914 recipes. Well curated. Indoor portion has great interior design, and also very informative.
During summer days, the historical village offers fun activities every half hour. Their costumed interpreters are very knowledgeable and relate very well to my kids. Often, the interpreters invite the kids to participate in an activity they are doing. The museum is great too. My five year old likes that there are toy stations throughout, while my ten year old loves the fashion history exhibit. They also have a craft area, play train set, and small restaurant that are great when the kids need a break or I need a coffee!
Every time great event there! And now electronic car charger was there.
Museum & Doon heritage Villages
Fantastic place to learn about local history. Clean, friendly staff and a beautiful building.
This is a great facility. The main museum has some great artifacts and information about Waterloo Region and Southern Ontario. My favourite is the display about when electricity came to the region. They have done a good job of selecting just the right artifacts and images to bring you back in time to the excitement of the era. You can also see a range of technology going back a number of decades. In the rotating exhibit room you can see a new exhibit every couple of months. They are generally well done. But four things that make this place really stand out: 1) Every time we have gone, there are a number of tables in the main hall that feature crafts for kids. 2) The demonstrations in the theatre are great and often interactive. 3) The pioneer village is not to be missed, especially the train station and blacksmith (walking through this area is beautiful and relaxing, and really gives you a sense of what it would be like to be in the region in the 1800s). 4) The membership provides an outstanding value if you plan to take the family more than a couple of times. You get entrance not only to the Regional Museum but some other select Region-managed museums around town.
do you have littlefoot and his friends from the land before time in your wonderful fantastic museum.
The 1914 historic village is a treasure. The staff and volunteers are so great and the village is such a fascinating look at life in the region in 1914.
Visited the place couple weeks ago. All buildings closed. Main building opened only first floor, but second floor closed
Enjoyed the exhibit today.
Great place to bring the kids and to explore our Regions history.
Great place well designed
Congratulations! Immigration Partnership for Ten years working Settle , Work and Below immigrants I. Our loving KW COMMUNITY! Remarkable work!
Had a blast at this awesome Museum, the multiple Museum staff were so helpful and made all the exhibits come to life and fun to explore. Great place to spend some time with friends family or even just learning on your own
This is a super fabulous place to take a step back in time. We had a wonderful visit even during COVID.
Beautiful modern building with fascinating exhibits. If you are a KW local it is a must-see. The temperary exhibit on changing Kitchener's name from Berlin is cool!
One of the beautiful spot in the whole WATERLOO. Don’t forget to walk in the the pioneer park as well, it’s just across the street.
Great museum.. Kids love to visit here
Finished our long weekend off here with the family. We had a blast going through the village and the museum. The price is great. The kids loved it and I had fun. I was very impressed that they had stuff to keep the kids busy, eye spy games and toys, through out the museum. Would recommend this place to others.
Great for all ages great family trip.
If you want to learn the history of the Waterloo region, then it's the best place you can go. Good and informative stuff as well.
I always have a great time here. I recommend getting here early because from 9 to 11 or later they are very empty and you can get personal tours of everything from the people in costume. Often times the houses have a treat or some interesting beverage to try when you visit. They have a horse and buggy ride and a myriad of other activities throughout the day to attend. There is an indoor section to enjoy but the outdoor town is where it's at. If you have kids I highly recommend it but it can also be enjoyed as an interesting and unique date activity.
My family loves visiting this museum. I purchase the membership every year as it's worth it! The best time to visit us from Spring to Fall as the village is also open during this time. But we still visit during the winter to participate in activities and see the temporary exhibits which are always fantastic and enjoyable for the whole family! Also, free parking is great! I gave 4 stars instead of 5 as I wish there was more to do during/see the winter months.
We loved the exhibits here and could not look at everything in the three hours we spent there. Both the museum and the village were very well designed and have lots to look at. The demonstrations in the village were also very enjoyable. We plan to come back to have another look.
Fantastic regional museum, featuring exhibits on local history. Enjoyed the transportation gallery! Nice facility, engaging staff, tremendous amount of information on exhibits.
Attending play Forgiven /Forgotten, excellent!
Great place
First time visiting - they had great crafts and hands on activities for the kids including Lego motor and programming kits, which the kids loved. They had a space exhibit in town with some pretty amazing experiment displays for testing out different space experiences including weightlessness, propulsion, and pressure. Adults enjoyed the Waterloo history pieces, which was neat for both visitors and residents to see. So many businesses started and ended here, the city just keeps on rolling with the punches. Would recommend, making sure you time your visit with an interesting exhibit or with a good activity schedule.
Amazing place and something new to learn
Great museum the first Toyota Corolla ever sold in Canada is in this museum.
Love the activities for kids. My boys LOVE the train!! We love the seasonal activities!
Great value nice village great steam machines!
Our grandkids loved it . There were great informative display for the grandkids. They loved the pioneer village. The train engine was their favorites part.
A great museum. The main building was very nice, but it was the outside town , barns and buildings that made it really fun. The people were all in periods dress, well informed and very friendly. We loved our visit.
Fun lantern walk that sells out within 24 hours. Tasting, touring, singing....fun!
Main building special exhibit open as well as three buildings in Pioneer Village
This museum is fairly new and a rather large museum. We easily spent an hour in the heritage village and over a couple hours in the museum indoors. The exhibits are well organized and nicely presented showcasing the town's history and development. Staff was super friendly and was kind enough to explain highlights of the exhibits. We easily spent 4 hours enjoying the village and museum exhibits. Highly recommended.
Pretty awesome place for the whole family. Go in the morning because you'll need all day to see it all!
It takes you back in time! The two horses giving the ride around the area are so big, healthy and strong! The museum is really well organized too. Theres so much to learn in this place and it is really interesting especially for the kids, and even for people like me who are kids at heart. :) We were lucky to see a show wherein people reenact how people from before used to live and they perform duties the old way.
Interesting fun and games...kids learnt a lot about birds of prey and overall good experience. Will be back soon.
A wonderful simulation of the beautiful past
Very nice place and quiet spacious.
I love this place! They have great exhibits and events throughout the year. The Village is also impressive with knowledgeable costumed interpreters, animals to visit and lots of great buildings to explore. I just saw the newest exhibit, Going Places: Past Present Future and it's incredible. Definitely worth the visit.
Was under the impression there would be more ceilings on display. Still an entertaining and productive way to spend an afternoon.
There for Canada Day, free family admission and as a musician in The 1914 Band..indoors in air conditioning..good for everyone! Happy, excellent, appreciative audience, great music, "LIVE"!! Good to keep up with events happening there.Always a wonderful experience. Interesting and unusual things to see in the gift shop too. Free parking. Wheelchair accessible.
Fantastic way to learn about the history of our area. Even with the changes due to COVID, it was a great experience both inside the museum and the outdoor portion in the village. Will definitely be back!
Really fun for families, great learning experience for all ages. Best to bring food and have a picnic at the site.
It is a nice reconstructed village from 1914. Worth visiting.:)
Average size size museum detailing local history. Staff were friendly and eager to share their knowledge. Attached heritage village includes people in period costumes acting in character.Reasonable admission for what's offered. Picnic areas available between the parking and village. Great place to spend a few hours exploring.
The place is nice but, the two ladies at the front desk they weren't nice and, keep them ignoring us even though the museum wasn't busy. The stuff was unpleasant and, seems disturbed by our asking questions. I hope next time, they have better disposition for public because the museum and the history was great!
