REVIEWS OF F. W. R. Dickson Wilderness Area IN Cambridge

Avery Kloss

Nice trail, with parts that are well kept, but beyond the footbridge it’s not well maintained and is in desperate need of some signage so you don’t end up on one of the many dead end paths. Beautiful, but needs some love.

Matthew Ford

Carolyn Ward

I was happy to see that they are rebuilding the walkways.

Samuel Streeter

Love the nature trail and I am so glad they redid the bridge structures as they were becoming quite hazardous.

Hein Low

Great trail accessible all year. Avoid icy days.

Jordan T

This was a very pleasant experience. The boardwalks were beautiful but along the middle of the trail it became very overgrown with plant life. I loved it but some may unhappy with it.

sandeep maddukuri

Nice place for bird watching and hiking. Quite trails. Best to begin the trail early morning.

Cody Freriks

Contrary to everybody calling this trail not very well maintained I think it’s fantastic. Much more of a nature trailer compared to something that is constantly groomed. Very easy to find you way around. Could use a walkway/bridge over the swamp at the front of the trail to the left. But understand it’s probably due to funding. Overall fantastic place to take a hike!

Trails can be challenging. Watch for ticks in the summer in the tall grass.

Fred Haywood (Fritz)

Nice place for a hike

Jen Boehm

Lots of very tame squirrels and raccoons. A nice boardwalk and pond, but because of the marsh there's tons of mosquitoes. Wear bug spray!

Orblocator L

Walkway is blocked off. Ripped up and under construction.

Unique wetlands area full of local wildlife even in early spring. My daughter really enjoyed the chipmunks and birds who will eatnl from your hand (if you are patient)

Ian Rolls-Carson

Trail was lovely, some nice views of the marshlands.

Henry Sikkema

Beautiful and small with new board walks.

mike winkler

A few logs crossing the path but didnt slow me down. Lots of bugs. Bring repellent with you.

John B

Has potential but is in bad repair Aug 2021. Trails look like they need deep maintenance as they appear to be 4 wheeler ruts only. Boardwalk was destroyed in some places making this a swamp walk for a bit.

Lucy Zhang

This is a place there are stories

Larissa Beadman

Gav “Cognition” Jones

Great walk with the family and dog. Lots of birds and bird feeders on the boardwalk. Leave your hand out and wait for a bird to land on it. The trail is easy to navigate and a breeze to walk

Aaron Mann

Quiet, Seren, lots of animals

Steph Van De Ven

Fav family place for a hike !

A D'Silva

Beautiful wilderness area with a board walk on the wetlands.

Bren Irwin

Very nice little hike. The loop trail was just shy of 2.5km. It featured two board walk sections and the rest was mostly dirt paths. Plenty of parking. Nice spot.

Sandra Allen

Beautiful place.

R Harrison

Very nice trail. Some parts are let go a bit a need attention but still a good hike and beautiful surroundings

Grant Silverthorn

Great trail system, if short. The boardwalk has recently been rebuilt, and trails are in pretty good shape, not overrun by tourists like alot of the other local trails.

Kate Berezina

Nice loop trail. It will take about one hour 30 minutes to complete the route.

Robert Crawford

Excellent hiking trail.

Dragonair Rage

I love how pretty it is and it's a great hike.

Jim Deal

Dawson Chaps

Great little trail with lots of shade for hot days (and bugs). Could be signed better (a few paths that look like the right one were not) and the bridge needs a repair (only one end is marked as closed), but great to explore if you have the time. Lots of chipmunks and turtles too!

One of the boardwalks is in disrepair and it was extremely icy but I'm sure it's probably nice in better weather. Chickadees are feed frequently so make sure to bring seeds and they will land on your hand

Paul Robinson

Great hiking trail with various ecosystems to explore.

Another great, local trail to enjoy. We will have to remember to bring some bird seed with us next time. The area reminds me of the Chesney Wilderness trail but not as busy.

Eric Bennett

Brian Couto

Kate Mills

Nice parking area , great loop trail .

My favourite trail in the area. Growing up in Ayr, my grandfather would take me and my sister here most weekends during the summer and fall. Really nice trail with lots of plant and wildlife. Bring some seed as the chickadees will eat off your hand. There used to be a lot of turtles although I have not seen them in years. There are a few places where the trail is narrow, it's not a trail suitable to bring a stroller as there are log steps and lots of steep hills. A few years ago they stopped maintaining the trail altogether, so I was happy to see it's walkable again. They also added a new boardwalk near the entrance. It's not a long trail, takes me and my boyfriend about 30 minutes to walk the entire trail. Also if you hit the old boardwalks be careful as there are some holes and wobbly boards.

Don't waste your time unless you're packing a machete to clear a way for you to walk. Even as a seasoned hiker, I didn't enjoy wading through the tick-infested overgrowth or the close brushes with poisonous plants. I wouldn't recommend this place and won't be coming back.

darren Jones

Improved boardwalk for bird feeding

Not crowded, easy walk, some elevation

Good walk. Some of the trails thin out and get really thick with weeds. Will still do it again in the fall when not so hot.

What a great place to tale a walk. Well done trails and look out points.

Connie Siebert

Amazing relaxing walk! Woodpecker, Goldfinch, Chickadee, Chipmunk, Squirrels, and many hungry mosquitos!???? Will go again, when mosquitos are gone!????

M B

Meg Pill

A beautiful area for birding... bring the kids! FYI taking the trail to Bannister Lake area is quite difficult during icy days. Lots of the ice slopes down towards the water.

Teresa Elliott

Extremely disappointed. What has happened to this beautiful spot?? It looks like most if the board walks were redone and a nice rock landscaping wall built, but it is so over grown and you can barely see a path. I grew up going here with my parents when I was younger and I have taken my children here when they were younger. I went to go for a hike with my dog today, I was checking us both constantly through the walk for ticks. There were spots my dog wouldn't go through first, she followed me and I was being hit in the face with over grown everything from the ground. Is this not open anymore or looked after?? Awe so sad...

Crazicraftimom

It's was perfect we loved it but bring bug protection they are fierce

Devon Smith

Nice area with boardwalk little lake and nice trails.

Joanne Sarson

Nice for a short hike 2--3lkm. Well marked paths. A variety of plant life (spring flowering is pretty nice). Boardwalk area with birdfeeders....so bring seed and peanuts for the squirrels.....when we went we saw a pair of swans in a pond and not very fat away a heron

Laura

Not impressed. The entrance looks great and so does the trail to the boardwalk, but after that, the trail thins out to about a foot wide. It's obviously not well maintained beyond the boardwalk. Not suitable for young children or a stroller. Downgraded to one star. We went back this year...even worse than last year.

Adam Buck

Joshua Turner

Great walking trail. Lots of wildlife. Young doe spotting and lookout deck at bannister lake

Kevin Sharpen

Great Hike !

Geoff Dixon

Nice variety of paths. If you visit in spring or summer bring bug spray.

Tony S

Nice little hike, nothing strenuous. On the day we went, the weather conditions in the last week conspired to produce rather icy trails. Some of the hills were quite difficult to maneuver either up or down! There's a nice boardwalk where a lot of people seem to feed the birds. In fact, the chickadees there were tame enough to actually eat right from your hand!
