Beautifully landscaped and the perfect spot to enjoy your lunch while on break from work or to take the kids to the interactive water feature in the summer. Security guards and Calgary Police patrol the site so it feels like a safe place to hang out

Beautiful park used as a Victorian garden then turned the oldest library in Alberta , I believe in 1823. Alexander Calhoun was the head librarian for 36 years. A new library was built on 14th St SW near River Park and was named after him in the 1980s . It still stands today and has been renamed. Look for it just south of the Firehall .The Central Memorial library has a beautiful solitary soldier at its entrance in memoriam to those lost in War. Another on horseback lines to the back of the elegant sandstone mansion. The park is well cultivated with flower gardens and indigenous conifers and there are always some Geese, squirrels, magpies crows and even hares protected and happy on the grounds. There is also a beautiful and historical artwork in bronze on the path leading to the southeast corner . It gives a brief history of the park and library. The library is more traditional in feel with a quiet reserved feel . Well lit with welcoming elegant furnishings and lighting. It's like being in a fancy 19th century home. The lay out of the books is well thought out with staff picks laid out in an enticing and interesting manner. They always seem to have the latest in both fiction and non fiction. The children's section is small but ripe and fruitful for little minds. This particular library though in my opinion is more suited for those seeking a quieter atmosphere than that of some of the sister locations. Laptops can be signed out with an an active library card . The main desk is always well staffed with librarians and staff and they are always happy to help.There is security stationed at the front entrance although it is in a very safe area and although reassuring to see, I would never expect to see any trouble in this park or library . I recommend checking out the art displays and taking a leisurely tour of this Grande Dame of the literary world.

Great place for a stroll or to go into the library and explore the worlds opened by books. In winter however it seems the city gave up cleaning the paths, so when it thaws and freezes it's an involuntary skating rink with obstacles

This park has it all. There are fountains for display, as well as a water lane for children to play in, plus a great restaurant and a library as well. Lots of room here to play around on a summer day, or even sit down at one of the park tables to enjoy a meal.

CMP is a really nice park with fountains that is given lots of care and attention by the city which makes it look great during summer with all the flowers. The problem is that there can be a lot of litter left overnight (cans, bottles, etc). There are plenty of trash cans in the park.

Central Memorial Park is a beautiful urban oasis amid the high rises just south of downtown. Lovely fountains add to the peace of this place. The park contains statues dedicated to the Boer War and the Central Cenotaph. The highlight, of course, is Calgary Public Library Memorial Park Library Branch where there always something going on from lectures to Food Bank distribution pop-ups.

The food in these location in not good. I bought a banana slice bread I did not realise that have mould around the bread. Infact, the customer service is awful, I paid with my debit card and when I checked my bank balance I saw that they have been charge 4.99 dollars more. I did not see how they did. It was a skinny guy who attend me. The Chinese lady also she never greet with smily face. I will never go again there.

It used to be one of the most beautiful parks in the city until they opened a safe injection place at the Sheldon Chumir hospital across street. It is now taken up by drug addicts, homeless people, drunks. I do not recommend to take children to the water park there, the homeless fight and we have seen glass on the ground. There is a public bathroom that has become a second injection place too. It is just so sad, families lost this public space. It got so bad to the point that either the City or who knows who put security guards in day hours. But if they are not around, it becomes drug La La land quickly

Please be cautious while visiting this park, ive seen a lot of people injecting drugs there, they were not violent, but they were definitely unpredictable. Beautiful park next to downtown core, but just does not feel safe. There are security guards walking around the park, but still place is not family friendly.

Very nice green space. Has criss-crossing gravel paths for walking. Has a library on the one end. Used to have a cafe at the other end. Has fountain in the middle. Steel benches spread out through the park. Great place to sit and read or just sit and talk. Library has round tables and chairs close by as well. Squirrels run around too.

I absolutely am in love with this park! As I have many things to be done very close by, I just can't go without a few minutes at central memorial park. Winter or summer ( of course weather pending). Summer 2 large water fountains to sit at . Also ,for lack of words, a mini water 'park' for the kids (and the determined puppy here and there lol). It is a spot on Southside that water shoots up from ground. Not large but not overly small either. Benches all around to sit, if u prefer lots of green to relax on. Summertime this park is amazingly kept up and the beautifully maintained flowers radiating colorful beauty, grass always taken care of. Now with the new restuarant on park property, I am anxious to check it out. Bottom line awesome place to sit and chill and just zone down from work , appointments whatever brings to area! Also considering this a Calgary park honoring those who have served so that we are able to have the freedom we do today. Beautiful statues in park. And a monument also stands tall. Remembrance day (Nov 11) celebrations are held here. If visiting calgary , A MUST SEE!

The Bryant Park of Calgary. I always make a point to pass through here on my way eastward / downtown. Many fond memories going to events here hosted by the Beltline Community Association, now Sidewalk Citizen? Amazing. People go on and on about how terrible the Safe Injection site is .. but as a local who lived and worked around this park for the past 6 years I only saw positive change... lately with COVID it seems to have become quite dismal but there is still a beauty here.. a real potential.. its the space.. its the people... I understand that the shapes are part of the original Mawson plan.. but I wondered if they could become embedded into a continuous seamless plane for accessibility , greater flexibility - while still honouring the Mawson plan which I know the City of Calgary was very adamant about.. I wonder what was there before Calgary existed...... Anyways I digress - what do I know!? Better get into the library to study or ask the locals.

My favourite park. A perfect place to have coffee or grab a sandwich and watch the fountains and soak up the colour of the numerous flowers that bloom here. It is peace in the middle of the chaos that is downtown. A gorgeous library flanks one end and gas torches encircle the other end. The park is cute and well maintained. Usually people just cutting through during the winter, but in the summer it's quite lively and a nice place to hang out. It's a great location between 17th ave and the train line. There's also a small library on one end of the park too. Ceremonies for Remembrance day are held here every year. The sound of sirens is pretty ubiquitous here because it's downtown and next to an urgent care centre.

This is a really nice park, but I believe it's near the safe injection site now, so it's not uncommon to see needles laying around. I've seen security a few times which is good and they hold local events here and there's often food trucks around. I just wouldn't go here after dark.

I love this park. So beautifully landscaped and tended year round. Great little restaurant in the SW corner. The library is a historic sandstone building, complemented by statues and the cenotaph. I love it so much I married my wife there.

This was the first time I made the park a destination. It's a beautiful and serene place to spend an hour or two. Flowers, shrubs, decorative grasses, lawns, two fountains, and memorial statuary. I love the constant change in the garden. The staff are tremendous, friendly and hard working. The homeless use it as a retreat from what must be a lonely life. Harmless and who's eyes light up when you say hi as you pass.

One of my favourite parks in the downtown core! Great for all ages! The water feature is a fabulous splash area for babies all the way up to school aged and is often not busy at all! The gardens are well maintained and there is a public washroom, restaurant and library on the site.

Not like million dollar park where the sprinklers come on and soak you at a certain time at night...when the sprinklers come on here it's normally like a special occasion or something.. I think they normally had them running throughout summer but not sure if they still do this or if it's just down for covid.

Lovely English style garden park with the oldest sandstone library in Alberta (circa 1902). The library was built by the Andrew Carnegie Library foundation just after the turn of the 20th century. (See Wikipedia for more info.) He built libraries around the world where none existed to bring free education to everyone. This beautiful park was donated in perpetuity to Calgary and later became the first provincial WWI (and later wars) commemorative memorials. It's twin 1905 fountains (modeled after ones In London, Eng) had their underground construction completed but nothing after that. Likely they were never completed likely due the lack of funds which could not be later funded due to looming WWI costs. The underground pipes for the fountains had been laid but we're later covered over. (The downtown Glenbow Museum has marvelous pictures of it under construction then.) The fountain structures were finally dug up, the original design reconstructed and the two fountains were turned on some 95 years after they were started. Well worth the visit during warmer weather as it is beautiful to watch their choreographed 'dance'. Although the park is only one square block it is a gorgeous respite amid the concrete and steel of the edge of downtown Calgary. It was an idyllic space until the fed & prov gov'ts decided to locate a drug consumption site just across the street from this once-treasured gem in Calgary in 2017. In the process it and the once peaceful, thriving Beltline residential and small local business neighborhood have become a nightmare of drug addicts, shooting up drugs, leaving used needles, human excrement, and condoms everywhere and anywhere - and the obvious to anyone who thought about the consequences - invasion of drug dealers. They can be found there any time of the day but mostly at night. The addicts and dealers roam the neighborhood during the evenings and overnight breaking into cars, businesses, and residences to steal and trash anything they can to feed their addiction. So, once, I would have given this beauty of a park 5 stars. Not now! The park is still worth seeing. The beautiful small library building is an architectural gem. See it before the gov't's actions further destroy it and the neighborhood, all just so they can shout with false pride, how caring they are (they aren't!). But see it only during the day! If there is a public event going on there then feel free to bring children but watch the ground carefully for used needles and a LOT of excrement, animal and so-called human! A real problem and a damn shame - thank the government for both. Your tax dollars put to use?

Love spending the day in this park! There are fountains, statues, many benches, and hundreds of gorgeous flowers! It's so relaxing to sit and listen to the fountains and read a book. And if you don't have one the library is in the same park located in a gorgeous old building. There is also a restaurant and public washrooms for your comfort.

Located in the heart of the city, obviously it's not peaceful as the normal parks. But anyhow comparing it to big city standards it's quiet. Few benches to sit around and enjoy evening breezes.

Park looks nice and all. Only downside is the safe injection site which brings in all the vulnerable people to the area by the sheldon chumir. Having the site there near the park ruins the feel of the park as sometimes needles get left everywhere which is a hazard to kids that play around the park.

Its a beautiful park but the liberal town council has essentially defunded the police making it difficult for law enforcement to clear out the homeless people i routinely see sitting in groups sharing heroine needles. Too bad.
