Drop by to check out the tiny museum and gift shop. Small but tastefully setup. Artwork and pictures and stories throughout the building make for an interesting self-tour.
Awesome place with cultural significance
Great location with a wealth of knowledge and activities for the community to partake in and learn.
I go regularly here for their events.
Beautiful garden outside, enjoyable visit, good to learn more of Japanese-Canadian culture
I've been here twice for a friends wedding and baby shower. If you wondered around and look around the walls they have some interesting and informative history about the Japanese community in Canada especially here in Vancouver. So the next time you come spend some time reading the writings on the wall ????
We come here with the little one to hang out, not to some particular class or program. Place is nice, quiet and friendly. When there's an event, like some food fest or book sale, there's entry fee, LOTs of ppl but usually nothing too exciting.
Great place, some wonderful information. Nice parking underground
A beautiful place for photos may it be engagement to a wedding. Costs are very reasonable too. Real fish in the water too. Small parking lot underground.
spacious place
Love this culture place, great event venue as well, good location
I went there to donate blood. The air condition was very good.
Interesting.
Great Japanese culture!
nikkei matsuri 2016! It was good !!! nice place~
I do Karate here. Nikkei Karate is great, and the center is beautiful - great dojo and gyms, and a really cool Japanese memorial/history area on the top floor.
Not so much to see
Love going here for the farmers market. You gotta come see
Such a cool place, we'll definitely go back to future events! Very attractive building, well organized (attended Tanabata Children's Festival and Flea Market), clean bathrooms (always a bonus;), and they run many activities out of here.
Lovely place with many events. Always a good vibe :)
Nothing really special
Artistic Modern Architecture. This low rise building conveys a Scandinavian feel with its curved and linear shapes within its structure and blends well within the neighboring area. The vaulted ceiling and tall windows allows natural light to illuminate the interior during sunny weather. Excellent venue for hosting various kinds of community events. Light coloured wood interiors with a long corridor at the front entry and multiple rooms of varying sizes available for rentals.
Great events and programs.
Excellent venue for our Coin, Stamp and Collectables Fair. The staff there are very helpful and organized. There's plenty of space and easy access. Thank you from the North Shore Numismatic Society.
Came here for the Japanese festival. They had food trucks and activities inside and a small grocery store connected to the complex. It's nice to just check out when there's events there.
Lovely space and garden. Check out The Suitcase Project. Extremely realavant to our current times.
(Translated) Excellent place. (Original) Excelente lugar.
Love the o genki restaurant which is open to the public
Nice room for conferences and events. Enough space for a fair. Beware they don't allow heating your food on their microwaves.
The martial gym that happens every Tuesday afternoon to night is the best for children and adults. I would recommend that anyone who wants to learn about self defense should go and learn from Mario Lam
(Translated) It is a base for transmitting Japanese culture. I'm thinking of donating books because I want to enhance the book corner. (Original) 日本の文化発信の拠点です。図書コーナーをもっと充実してあげたいので、図書の寄贈を考えています。
I didn't visit the museum, so this is about the cultural centre. A great spot for families - lots of rooms for recreational lessons for children. They have a japanese language program here too. There's also a japanese market next to it (I didn't get to visit but would love to next time). The garden outside is small but very peaceful and serene (it really feels like a different place from the city surrounding it). The whole place gives off a very warm and nostalgic feel.
It's a cool little place that is always hosting some event. Nice little grass area and pond with goldfish. The goldfish could really use some attention tho. The water is in terrible condition and the water line is well below the filter! If any staff see this I would be glad to help as I live a block away and have experience with ponds and looking after fish.
Very nice place
A well maintained Japanese museum. Regular festivities/event and an old bookstore that opens 4 days a week. Good place to visit on weekends.
Very cool small museum. Always have events throughout spring and summer. Keep an eye out for special events
Great facility! Perfect for renting space for activities/meeting rooms. Lots of great community activities and festivals take place here.
Cultural center with lots of traditional activities and a large stage
Its great place for us to learn and getting idea about Japanies history. Everything looks great and well decorated. Its a best opportunity for us i mean Canadian people. Thanks always guys!
Lovely museum for fantastic cosplay shooting.
Good location many activities on the weekends
So lucky to have access to this complex
Not the most exciting place but it is pretty cool
A nice quiet place to enjoy a taste of Japanese culture.
Great place to visit. It hosts many fair and festival including Japanese Festival. It gives great opportunity for Canadian to learn about Japanese Canadian history, Japanese culture and food. There were live performances, clothes, books and food for the festival. It was very enjoyable. I wish the COVID-19 will be over soon, so we can enjoy many events at the museum again.
Indonesia festival
Well run job fair
Nice place to visit.
This has often Japanese events it festival here. Suzuya, the Japanese convenience store is near here. An Japanese restaurant is also near here. We can eat ”teisyoku” there.
The Nikkei National Museum was a good visit. It was a nice look into cultural Japanese/ Japanese Canadian history. All in all, a good informative museum with some Japanese cultural artifacts.
Not much to see sometimes there are events which of the are usually charge money to enter
Variety of cultural events and fun activities like swap meets and Japanese used book sale, mochi rice festival Dec 29 and special performances. The Museum though small always has thought provoking exhibitions.
Great events and community to be found here!
Overpriced admission
Good
Worked here on Election Day ,September 20, 2021. Large , neat and accessible auditorium.Basement and street parking.Garden with koi fish infront.
My kid loves the playgroup in this place.
This is the main Japanese cultural Center of Vancouver lower mainland, providing Japanese language schooling of all ages, Japanese heritage related activities from karate, judo, Japanese dancing, cooking and annual festivals. Our family feel so fortunate to live so close to the Nikkei Center. I feel my children will be more enriched because of this.
Great place
Small, but it's under construction at the moment.
Very helpful receptionist
Nice mix of cultural events throughout the year
A nice facility for mid size gatherings. Underground parking lot closes at 9 pm
Interesting museum. Went during labor day event though and while festive was very crowded.
Great place to visit and learn about the history and culture of the Japanese Canadian experience. I enjoyed the museum display as well.
Amazing facility
History is well preserved in the museum dedicated to the Japanese Canadians. Ground floor is designed for sports related activities and meetings. Upstairs you can learn about the Japanese heritage since 1877 until those days. It is sad to know that thousand of innocent people were held into custody in those internment camps during the 2nd WW. But let’s leave the past in the past. This venue is beautiful and well maintained. There is also a Japanese language school upstairs to preserve the culture within this community. Worth a visit!
Its nice, but it is not a big place
Nice place.
Like their convenient store.
Small Japanese garden. The suitcase project exhibit. Historical photos with content explained. Gift shop.
Learn about the lives of Japanese Canadians. There are displays of old letters and documents. Interesting =o
great facility. love to go there for blood donation appointment.
Enjoyable place - Reasonable price - Clean Place - Good place to visit on weekends & learn more of Japanese culture.
While far more lively during regular days filled with inviting and very well-planned multi-day activities suitable for everyone throughout the seasons, the cultural center continues to fully serve the community in as many ways as possible. Being a consistent temporary Blood Drive destination of the Canadian Blood Services, the large open space with multiple doors allow for easy social distancing. Underground parking is well-lit and accessible.
The blood donation clinic runs every 8 weeks there
Was there for Japanese fest. Super fun!
There's so much to do. Check the site for activities and planning. Definitely recommend the spring festival.
Spacious hall and good facilities. Limited underground parking but there is street parking.
Canadian Japanese
The museum there is very clean and interesting, The Matsuri there is very enjoyable and exciting.
The exhibit was very educational, and the hosts were kind, however to call this a national museum seems an overstatement.
Nikkei place does a wonderful job of presenting Nikkei culture to the community with their various programs and annual festival
I love what Nikkei stands for and achieves for the Canadian Japanese community. I've volunteered here, attended their fundraisers, a kimono fashion show, taken Japanese language classes and karate here.
Our family has always enjoyed coming here for special events, such as craft fairs before Christmas.
Beautiful, informative displays. The museum section I think is free for students (or super cheap.)
Fun place to see some Japanese culture thingy. Got a restaurant that's budget for anyone, not just the seniors there There is also a little Japanese convenient store for Japanese grocery.
Unique and interesting
Almost every spring ( March, April ) and fall (September) I go this place perform the singing. It's Japanese Cultural Centre, so of course everything are related to Japanese.
Good food lots to see and do for children of all ages. But they need a better system for some of the food vendors. Some of them you don't if your in the pick up line or ordering line.
It's a very small museum, but does demonstrate the Japanese coming to Canada and what types of things happened to them. The venue ballroom is quite nice but serving staff was dressed quite informally which kind of clashed with well dressed patrons.
Great programs. Clean spacious facility.
Beautiful & well curated Japanese-Canadian cultural center & museum on gorgeous, understated grounds. Worth a visit if in this part of Burnaby.
Great place. Lots of Japanese events held here. You can also rent rooms for party or meetings.
They don't allow for much setup and takedown time and want to charge high rates for a few extra minutes.
They have a nice gift shop inside.
Nice cultural centre with many activities to sign up for. The annual Nikkei Matsuri is so fun and so cultural, and not marred by corporate sponsorship.
Japanese culture festival was good
This is a great facility to connect with events and history particularly related to the Japanese experience in this area. Lots of research and information going on about the internment of Japanese during WWII and other locally relevant background. Around major holidays in the Japanese calendar the Centre holds events with Arts, crafts, activities and awesome for vendors. The used book fair held a few times a year is a good place to get Japanese language books, movies and some CDs. The only drawback is that while it is a large facility it would be great to have more space for the large events, particularly to house food vendors: there are some really great food options that show up, but I think the number possible at each event is quite limited. Not really a criticism, I just would love more of these vendors to get to show off the more authentic and wide variety of Japanese foods that many people may not have experienced. If you see an event on, go check it out!
Beautiful architecture and cultural programming.
Enjoy the festivals
Beautiful place. Love to learn about the history of the Japanese people in BC, and their hardships. If we forget this bloodstain on our past we will be doomed to repeat it.
The best place for family events.
Great cultural experience. Lots of activities for the kids. Not stroller friendly. You are required to check in your stroller for an additional fee if you plan to enter the building.
They have the best festivals all year round.
Great place, great space and beautiful landscape
The current Asahi baseball exhibit is ????
(Translated) I went for the first time when His Majesty the Emperor came I was supposed to come at 2 o'clock, but I waited There were many events and I participated in the craft exhibition (Original) 天皇陛下が来られた時、初めて行きました 2時に来られる予定が5時でしたがお待ちしました 催し物も多くあってクラフト展には私も参加しました
A clean community centre with lots of interesting children's activities. We had a children's party and the event rooms are spacious
It's a typical gloomy raining day in November; however, my eyes were brightened once I stepped into here. I have been here many times; there is a Japanese restaurant and a Japanese grocery store that are my local favorite. I know it's beautiful in Spring time because of the cherry tree and the Crescent road. But today, in the rain, I discovered its elegance and beauty again!
Always something interesting going on here. Particularly enjoy the seasonal fairs with excellent food options and a variety of crafts. The small grocery store has a surprising variety of imported Japanese products.
(Translated) Place to increase your knowledge (Original) Local para aumentar seu conhecimento
Beautiful museum with a rich history of the Japanese Canadian community in BC. It has a cute small Japanese store to buy authentic Japanese souvenirs. In front, there is a beautiful garden to take a stroll. Inside there is an amazing aikido dojo with tatami.
Quite beautiful
Very cool space and well thought out exhibits! Learned a ton.
Worth a visit if you are interested in the history of Japanese Canadians or to participate in various activities organised for Japanese Canadians. There is "Nikkei Place Seniors" next door which has "Hi Genki" a good place for Japanese (home style) cooking. The National Museum brings to life the cultural history of the community and there is usually an exhibition on at any one time (including the ongoing Taiken exhibit). Staff are exceptionally helpful.
Nice place for a casual lunch. Authentic Japanese family style.
It has free parking and lots programs and activities
Great flea market for Tanabata
Wonderful place where comminity member meet and programs provide a rich look into the Japanese Canadian community.
The Japanese festival was cool to visit! They have a really nice lunch there on a daily basis. It's worth visiting at least once.
The awesome community center for all your Japanese Cultural needs! Tons of activities, learning Japanese classes, book sale and fun cooking classes! A stone throw away from Hi-Genki a delicious restaurant too! It is a place to hang out for sure :)
Good. My friend's workplace.
Lots of different events being held here with primarily Japanese focused. Last time i came here it was a very busy very delicious Indonesian festival that happens once a year. Bring an empty tummy and lots of smiles to what is always family friendly, lots to see and lots to eat events packed into this deceptively small cultural center.
A genuine piece of Japan.
perfect size for my grad ceremony. Easy stainless entry from parking
Really great cultural centre that honors Japanese Canadians heritage and celebrates Japanese culture. They hold many educational classes and regularly hold events such as their annual craft and bake fair. Upstairs on the second level there are many displays to read up that shows the history of Japanese that lived here in BC. Everyone working or volunteering there are kind and will help you out of needed. Dont forget to visit Suzuya Japanese market! The store is small but has alot of great food items from Japan. Highly recommend it.
Great talent show here every year.
Food was ok, not special
Stopped by during the annual Labour Day weekend Nikkei Matsuri (summer festival). COVID notwithstanding, the team did a fine job and I look forward to next year. The museum is focused on the experiences of pre-WW2 Japanese Canadians and holds a good selection of photos and artifacts. Would be interesting to see the museum extend further ahead in time to document the community beyond 1950.
Awesome venue. Japanese cultural centre. Gift shop had lots of gifts and the customer service was good. They also have a grocery store which has many Japanese food items
There are some interesting facts here. It's a very small museum, but does demonstrate the Japanese coming to Canada and what types of things happened to them.
Large community hall with kitchen, foyer, restrooms and a museum.
Love their Japanese garden
Like it
Wonderful,exciting and delicious cultural event
It's about Japanese history in Vancouvet
If you have an interest in knowing how the Japanese community impacted BC's history, the Nikkei museum and cultural centre is worth the visit.
Badminton Wednesdays
Museum is nothing to see and charge $5 is too much. You can walk around on second floor without charge. It will takes about 30 min total to see everything.
Great place to learn about Japanese culture
(Translated) Nothing to see (Original) 没什么东西看
Great place, interesting Japanese cultural events and programs.
very enlightening
Epic style
Very nice building offering tours and classes. Learn about Discrimination and Japanese Canadian internment during WW2.
I went during the festival, as i do every year, its always great for such a small festival. The rain put a damper on things but it didn't stop the community from making do with what they have. They had some used Japanese books upstairs for very very cheap and some even free, it is such a great welcoming community. I recommend everyone to check it out.
Such a beautiful place to visit!! ???? Everything looks and feels amazing and the people are super friendly????????
The place are clean and tide, which nice for family to have econ. price on Japanese ????foods
Great place in the neighbourhood offering cultural exchanges and history of Japanese Canadians.
Clean well maintained
Japanese museum and they rent the place for events like: Trade Shows, Weddings etc.
They were playing chroket' on the front lawn, but , I wasn't there for fun-Job Fair
Awesome place for badminton ????
Interesting place
I've seen a few Ghibli studios movies here... One tube in the gym, the other time in a smaller classroom. The gym gives a more big screen theater experience, but smells faintly like a boy's locker room. The classroom was a much smaller screen.... But no smell. There's also a lot of other events through the year worth checking out (bake sale, book sale, festivals).
nice place and park. The building seems huge and well maintained.
Attending the exhibition here was an awesome experience. Nice collection of items here are. Happy to visit.
Small, has local events, and a permanent exhibit. A cute little Japanese grocery is attached.
The annual Christmas craft and bake festival is lots of fun. Lots of handmade Japanese style stuffs
The museum is a great way to learn about local Japanes history
I absolutely love this place, being a Japanese Canadian it's great to learn about my culture!
(Translated) Great O Hanami event! (Original) Great O Hanami event!

A lot of awesome history to be seen here, especially about the dark times of Canada’s past during World War II.
lovely garden outside, enjoyable visit, good to learn more of Japanese-Canadian culture
Good place to go and learn about the history of the Japanese Canadian.
Beautiful place lots of tradition..
Great place for learning anything about Japan and its culture.
nice place
It's awsome

longest 6 hours of my life
The exhibit they did on the internment of the Japanese Canadians in Hastings park was extremely well done and made the experience of the Japanese Canadians at that time and place very tangible. Well done to everyone there that made that exhibit. It was remarkable.
Lots of events throughout the year
This is the place to know about Japanese Canadian.
Clean and quiet
Place is nice, quiet and friendly. Good artwork, pictures and stories throughout the building. Easy entry from parking.

Has good history of the Canadian Japanese
Beautiful garden. Be sure to check out Hi Genki Japanese restaurant next door. Hidden gem for home cooking.
We had our wedding at Nikkei this past weekend and Karah and her staff were so professional in handling all our requests and making sure the Centre was set up to what we needed. This was in spite of a power outage the previous day and not knowing if it was going to happen. Karah was easy to get a hold of by email and was always prompt with replies. The facilities were great and the Ellipse Lobby provided a perfect setting for our wedding ceremony. We couldn't have asked for a better venue or better people to work with!
(Translated) Very interesting, the only drawback is that there are too many people and the table is a little less. (Original) 非常有意思,唯一的缺点是人太多,餐桌有些少了。

I had an amazing experience here!
Always interesting plants, food, clothing & crafts! Thank you to all the workers & volunteers.
Well...if you haven't tried this place, this place taste like Japan. Food is absolutely original and delicious
Wonderful place to visit. Good but small museum. Has a large hall that can be rented for events. Lots of cultural/Japanese events and get togethers happen here.
Nice and clean building. Parking access is easy
Our club uses their Exhibit Hall to host our Coins, Stamps and Collectable Fair. The staff members are very helpful and friendly. The Hall is spacious and bright and the facility provides all the tables and chairs which they will set up and take down after our show. The facility also has limited free underground parking and is also close to public transit. I would highly recommend this facility.
Great place to go!!
Its always a fun place
Good place good parking. Friendly staff. Building is old. Elevator is very slow.
Book sale was very nice!
Good
Lots of variety of activities for kids & adults alike. Nice & clean facilities - a good place to bring the whole family when there are special events!
Very nice place
Always hosting small events
Love this place.
This place is well maintained and had various programs for all ages.
(Translated) This is where Japanese events are held. (Original) 일본식 행사가 열리는 곳.
Great location for the Farmers Market!
The curator was very helpful in identifying artifacts and purpose. The Centre was going through a move and therefore I was not able to see their artifacts.

Typically Busy but all in all a good place to take your kids to know about the japanese culture.
Great Japanese Centre.
Very nice exhibits
great kimono exhibition
Great place, awesome people
Love the festival we go every year
Tea festival event was amaisibg
The Home | Safe art exibit was great! I really enjoyed Kellan Hatanaka's art. Very interesting works that conveyed an amazing message! I was really impressed!
Their Matsuri is a great fun. You get a real sense of Japanese community. Also you can hear traditional musical performance!
Great place to have a party!!!!
some Japanese Canadians histstory and event, second hand books/comics in Japanese language, outside many cherry blossoms and one Japanese candy&food store.
There are programs for every age besides the museum.
We held the Celebration of Life for my brother at the Nikkei Cultural Centre. The event was held in the lobby. The space is so bright, expansive, and architecturally beautiful. We had over a hundred people attending and everything went so smoothly. The Auxiliary group looked after the food from Fujiya as well as the beverages, they did a great job. The gardens outside was a lovely place to stroll and for the children to play. There is even underground parking, and the museum/shop was open. The location was a tribute to my brother, and I am sure he appreciated all the effort. Thanks from the family to the Nikkei Centre.
I feel very disappointed about this place. It seems they have a lot of Japanese stuff but actually it is changed. Not Japanese not Canadian. There are also two guys called J**e and M**ato with terrible attitude to service the new students. Anyway, I hate this place.
Love the Nikkei Centre for its preservation of Japanese art and culture..
Great place for people who want to learn something new!
As the co-program director of a local NPO and cultural preservation center, we've worked with Nikkei on several different occasions and the experiences were highly pleasant every time. Without exceptions, Nikkei staffs are always helpful and extremely detailed oriented. They offer a wide range of programs and events that promote Japanese culture and history, and they're widely involved in local community affairs. I always look forward to the opportunity of working with Nikkei with great delight =)
Really nice wedding hall. I've catered weddings here. Well equipped, spacious kitchen.
(Translated) O.k. (Original) O.k.
There is so much to see and learn about the history of Japanese Canadians in Canada. None of the way they were treated was found in any history books that we studied in high school.
Plenty of programs to satisfy your cultural hunger. Staff and volunteers have always been friendly and welcoming.
(Translated) The Japanese festival on Saturday was very crowded, but the food stalls could be purchased in about 15-20 minutes. I think the secondhand book sale is a great bargain if you have what you are looking for. There is an admission fee inside the building. (Original) 土曜日の日系祭りはとても混んでいたが、屋台は15-20分ほどで購入できました。古本のセールはお目当てのものがあればとてもお買い得だと思います。館内は入場料がいります。
One of the best festivals the Lower Mainland has to offer. Something for all she's from toddlers on up. More types and outlets for food than events 5-6 times this size. The only drawback is that the physical size of the event is limited. This one is a must see.
The venue ball room is quit nice but serving staff was dressed quite informally which kind of clashed with well dressed patrons.
I wish I could find more Japanese culture or exhibits there but couldn't, but happy to find a few Japanese classrooms in the 2nd floor.
beautiful
It has been a good experience for me, and I hope to visit again sometime! The Nikkei National Museum & Cultural Centre is a gem tucked away in Burnaby, British Columbia. It is dedicated to preserving and representing Japanese Canadian culture, as well as exploring other cultures and arts. The museum’s mission statement emphasizes the idea of “opening minds through learning and discovery” – a goal that it achieves by creating an interactive space that invites visitors into various perspectives of Canada’s diverse history.
Nice place to have simple dinner. The party room is good for kids b-day party as well
(Translated) The quiet environment is a good place to learn about Japanese culture. (Original) 环境清静 是了解日本文化的一个好去处。
I am a kid and my mom brought me there and it was so fun.
Very well maintained and well managed Cultural Centre.
A must see in Burnaby.
Some areas are currently closed for renovations.
