So it’s the “worlds largest burl”. When you go to this place you think why is this place in the over flow parking lot. No big to do about??. Usual touristy trappings doesn’t exit here. Why doesn’t Port McNeil make it a “something” it’s so so rare. It’s tough to explain.

A wonderful feat of nature weighing in at 20 tons tucked away in quaint Port McNeill.

The burl is unique as is something really special as a logging town. If you are into natural oddities this is an awesome sight to see. The burl doesn't have too much around it as it is located in the community hall parking lot, but it has a covering and small plaque talking about it. The museum when it is open again is a great place to see more about the logging history.

Pretty cool if you ask me. Huge burl. Donated to Port McNeill in 2005 by WFP. Found on a 525 year old Sitka spruce tree. Approx 20+ tons.

The Burl is pretty impressive. There are no signs guiding us there and when we found it it was simply by a baseball diamond. The writing of its history is easy to miss in a 8" x 10" frame. I think the burl deserves a bit more.

This Burl is the Largest known burl found so and i was just notified that it is 525 years old, wow that is History for you. Just imagine if the Burl could talk, What would it have to say? Went through a whole lot of Wars and fires, people, it's truly amazing. Merry Christmas Everyone and a Happy New Year.

Very cool quick stop. There is a nice little playground nearby if you need to burn off some kids' energy. I would recommend this one over the other one a few kilometers away that also comes up on Google Maps.

Fun tourist trap item to say that you have seen, without all the tourist trap store stuff, in fact there really is nothing else around except the town. Tucked away off a small road with little to bring your attention to it. If a car was parked in front of it you may miss it. I do not know who the lovely lady was that was posing for her friends, but I needed a size reference in the photo. Thanks. This thing is big. Found it on the way to the Broughton Strait Camping area.
