REVIEWS OF Hell's Gate Airtram IN British Columbia

Such a cool experience. I am so glad we went during the fall. The colors were so beautiful! The airtram was cool (too short imo) I would have loved more time being suspended over the river to take in the scenery but there is a walk-on suspension bridge once you get off the tram so that was cool! It was a neat surprise to participate in the annual Pumpkin Drop too! I missed the target but it was still fun!! Haha Really cool educational historic displays. A little lacking in grandure but still informative and interesting! Gift shop wasnt terrible. The whole experience was really unique and we thoroughly enjoyed it! Covid related; The staff all wore masks, and the airtram is disinfected after every use. Masks were required, and provided if needed. There wasn't a ton of people when we went so psychical distancing was easy enough. Restaurant had a very limited menu, burgers and hot dogs. My friend is a vegetarian so unfortunately there was no food option for her. Not even fries, so that would be the only downside in my opinion. All in all though I still rate it at 5 stars, 10/10 would recommend!

I love visiting the Hell's Gate over and over again. I can never get tired of the beautiful scenery and the sound of the rushing water around you. The gondola ride is fun and informative. The guide on the gondola will give you a quick …

Fun little tourist trap on a dramatic section of the river. Nice exhibit on the challenges of building the train tunnels and fish bypasses on the site paired with homemade fudge! Corny murals and photo opportunities abound!

Christopher Scott

Amazing place with great views and interesting exhibits. Nice gift shops and a basic restaurant but with really good food and nice people.

Janna M

Neat experience but quite pricy at $32/pp! The air tram ride is only a few minutes each way and the tourist trap at the bottom is kind of worn and sad.

Nicole P

Great views and cool experience for the kids to ride the tram and walk over the suspension bridge. A warning that the food, drinks and icecream are very expensive. The suspension bridge floor allows you to see the water below. Cool for some and scary for others. We spent 1.5 hours there.

Henry Xu

Speechless view with lots of history behind it. Human are smart

Suzanne Eason

A fun place to visit for families, was quiet when we went in July. Lower terminal has a nice atmosphere and great views of the Fraser River. Just wish the gondola ride was longer though

W. Llewellyn

Good scenery. Overpriced gondola ride and food. Food was not very good.

Tracy Deigan

Super fun tourist stop. Amazing views and tram operator gave us a history lesson on the way down. Souvenirs are a bit pricey and so is the food but great history displays, kids can pan for gold, great ice cream and fudge and DOGS ARE PERMITTED!

B Pardo

Very fun and great prices online. The season pass is worth it. The other side of the AirTram is very nice. I especially enjoyed how nice and neat the gift shop was. The fudge factory could use a better selection of sweets and the videos in the video room really need to beupdated to captivate today’s audience. otherwise, the visit was really great!

Chad Peterson

Fun time and some good Canadian history.

Josh Hawthorne

We arrived later in the day...and we were the only people there (other than staff)???? The power of the river is incredible - take a wander out on the suspension bridge to see (and hear) it for yourself! The gift shop was the biggest disappointment I think...walking sticks made in China? Really? Nothing really unique or interesting in this shop...if you imagine a mediocre tourist-trap, loaded with low budget magnets and t-shirts and overpriced hoodies, you won't be disappointed

Heinz Zahn

Greate time but buy tickets online cheaper

Andres

Fun activity to include on your road trip. Perhaps even a day activity. They have a a pub with bar and food inside with AC/heat. Could be cozy activity for winter. Check out the museum's and good photo ops.

This place is so incredible! My partner and I vow to visit every year. Absolutely stunning views! Bring a picnic, water, and a cool towel. It has pockets of incredibly humid air. Bring comfy shoes. Very gravely terrain.

We drove to Hells Gate, Air Tram from Maple Ridge yesterday (May 20th), two hours maximum through tunnels and bridges. It was raining all the way then became very pleasant when we entered the Hells Gate area. Somehow our google maps default this location to Boston Bar, BC and we drove passed through it. All for good. Just north of 2 KM’s, we pulled over on the expanded curb and decided to make an U turn. There we saw a beautiful water falls and took few pictures. I think the water falls has water during the rainy season and I will check during summer. May 20th was Victoria Day holiday and surprisingly the place was not crowded. We got in quickly and took the tram down. It was a breath-taking view. The tram Captain Buenon was all smiling and welcoming. Once we went down to the small enclave at the other side of the river, we walked through the red bridge (Very similar design of Golden Gate Bridge, SFO). Believe me, we didn’t want to come out of it. The Fraser river was raging under the bridge and it makes anyone humble in their mind. It delivers 200 million gallons of water per minute. After clicking some pictures and spent sometime watching the river, we came to the gift shop and bought some souvenirs. Too bad, the restaurant didn’t have ‘Hells Gate’ beer in stock on that day. The gift shop has a nice exhibition that explains about Salmon habitat, Fish pathway and contains other historical information. First time, I came to know that Salmons never drink ‘Fresh Water’. They wait until they reach the sea to drink. They also have exhibition about Chinese workers about their hard work towards building rocky mountain rail roads. I just missed to see the haunted stove (next time). We took the tram and went up. Just 12 KM south of Air tram location at Route 1, we stopped at Alexandra Lodge (built in 1858) and took some pictures. Then pulled over into Alexandra Bridge (built in 1861) picnic area, had our lunch then walked through a short trail to reach the bridge (10 minutes of walk). A very beautiful bridge that gives you calm look of Fraser River. Since we live nearby, I can’t provide the lodging details and other amenities. However, the best place to stay is either Boston Bar or Hope BC. Have fun.

Bootiful ! It was a lovely attraction, with some neat little shops and activities, day well spent !

Jeremy Schollie

It was very cool but in a couple exhibits I found information was in two or even three places. So reading the placards, you were rereading the same things. Also the food there, well didn't get to try it because we weren't going to pay $20 for a burger combo or $10 for soup... Very amazing views and an amazing piece of history

Renan Tarras

It was super a cool experience if you get the chance you definitely gotta check it out!

Pedro van der Meer

Nice place to combine a break of the journey from Revelstoke to Lake Louise. Impressive construction in the narrow and deep pass of the river allowing salmon to still swim up to the river.

Rodney Nelson

Well worth the price for viewing the legendary Hell's gate. Amazing story of salmon conservation and a nice small information museum. Kids can even pan for some gold.

Sharath Kumar

When you travel east bound, there's a pull out a few metres before the hell's gate entrance on the opposite side. That pullout leads to a parking lot for travellers coming from the West. Unfortunately there is no sign of the parking lot on …

Rick Haifuknew

Only gave it a 4 because half the shops were closed because of Coronavirus

Peter Sun

Brought family here for a short day trip and totally worth it. Talked a lot on the history of Hells Gate, a great place for kid to explore. Washroom is clean and well equiped for baby as well. A must stop by if going northern BC.

Michelle Nicholson

Located on Hwy 1 in the Fraser Canyon north of Hope. There is parking on both sides of the Hwy. Great signs with lots of information about area at bottom of tram ride. Worth the cost of the tickets to cross the river and see the exhibits.

June Daniels

If you are driving out from Vancouver, then YES, the PULLOUT TO THE RIGHT is the entrance to the parking lot. Looks like the roads for emergency braking, since it's a steep incline up, but yeah that's it. You might want to just keep going and do a u-turn down the other way to get into the parking lot on the other side so you don't have to do a u-turn when leaving. No washroom on the top while you're waiting -- if you're desperate to go then it can be quite the wait. Down below, once you cross the bridge over Hell's Gate, there is a chunky gravel path up to a very active railway crossing. The path keeps going, but there isn't any tourist thing there, just the trail that hikers use to come down sans gondola. So if you're mobility challenged, don't push yourself to go up that steep path. There's nothing there, I promise. Finally, the bridge itself has a grate style floor, so you can see the rapids below. Very cool, but the grate holes are large enough for phones to drop through, and the attendant will warn you about it (so they aren't liable if you do drop it in.) It would be a nightmare to try to walk on with thin heels.

Family friendly place to visit. Once you cross over on the airtram, they have a couple of shops, ice cream shop and a restaurant. You can walk over the bridge and go on a short hike as well.

Kharl Prado

Nice place to learn a little history about Simon Fraser and the gold rush as well as salmon spawning runs in BC. Food was surprisingly awesome. Manager and staff were super nice. Got both spooked and intrigued by stories of ghosts haunting the place. Will definitely visit again.

Nicole Barker

The staffs history of the place was awesome. A must see sight when going to BC

Tristan Schulze

Amazing place with great views! I would definitely recommend checking it out!!

Stevie Pee

It's an interesting look at our history, and some amazing achievements at a huge cost

TheBaldEagle

Very clean. Very friendly. Lots of photo opportunities. Rain or shine. Great for an outdoor activity. I was very impressed and the attraction exceeded my expectations. A++ for sure. #hellsgate

Ian Barnaby Nutt

It’s a short but spectacular drop from the road, over the rapids to the little attraction at the other end. The carriages swing around a bit but it should t be to scary for most folks. There’s a suspension bridge to get a better view, cafe, gift shop and a couple of exhibitions. It was very quiet when we visited and imagine it’s less fun if there’s a tour bus or two there.

Jennifer Love

Glad I went as I've always wanted to visit, but won't be back. Really expensive and the waters just weren't as impressive as I had imagined after hearing the stories of how the area got its name.

Chris Stenersen

Great place to visit for some history and some thrill. Great for everyone in th family. It's also dog friendly!!!

karen bushman

It was pretty cool, not scarey at all. Very interesting if you take the time. Note that there are no bathrooms at the top. You have to buy a ticket for the ride to get to the washroom ????☺️

D Scott

It has some very interesting history. The tram ride is great and the views are pretty wild.

Steve Walsh

Amazing fun day to be had at this Canyon exhibit cafe and tourist spot. Loads of free off road parking short but fab aerial tram ride and great photos

Laura G

Gorgeous scenery and amazing history! Very expensive admission which is $30 per person. It’s a small place with nothing to do there for over an hour so why charge so expensive considering the fact that it’s located nowhere close to a big city and people have to drive there through a busy high way and pay the cost of gas on its way. Also, the food there is not the one you would like to run and bite so be ready :) ice cream is ok, but never buy slash there ... overpriced and really bad! I think the admission should be at its maximum $15 for adult because most people come there for 15-20 min and leave ...

Kumar Voleti

Nature at it's best, gandola ride is short but nice experience,

kevork dongigian

I had a great time. The tickets weren’t too expensive and honestly quite affordable, if you’re in BC you should definitely check it out at least once!

Max Ma

on every thanks giving you can bring your own carved pumpkin here and drop it on the tram ride. I'd definitely come again if the opportunity presents.

THS (Sen)

Alteady visited the place 3 times and I just love it

Justin Scott

So worth the drive, nice to learn the history and a great spot to sit and have lunch and a beer. The fudge they sell is out of this world and SO CHEAP.

Muak

An interesting place to go for a visit along with the Alexander bridge. The admission fee is a bit expensive but other than that it is pretty fun with gold panning.

Tiffany Pitts

The Airtram should have been the main attraction here but my kid and I discovered the gold panning exhibit and spent all of our time panning for gold. It was so much fun! My husband tells me the rest of the place was fun and had beautiful scenery. I believe him.

Miles Griffiths

My wife and I had been wanting to do this for years and we're glad we did. There's some exciting history that goes with this attraction. We also learned that you can hike down and catch the tram up at a discounted rate. Though on the way down the operator gives out some facts about the tram and the area.

Dan Loewen

Had a great time! Lots to see and super friendly staff!

Kellie federici

It was a great experience lots of historical information. Too bad the gold panning was shut down due to covid-19

William Piche

Great place to visit right off the Hwy $30 per adult to cross the Fraser River via airtram (there and back) or you have to option to hike. There was a gift shop and restaurant.

sayar samanta

Great place to visit. Must stop here to see the beauty of river, bridge and railway along with the cable car. The scenery was amazing. Located in transit Canada highway. The cable service was too good. Will definitely recommend to all of my friends and others.

Brenda Pantoja

I've been wanting to do since I was a kid. They're taking the right precautions for Covid. Probably would be a super cool adventure as a kid, but it was definitely a good time. Their 'Award Winning' video is a must watch: Included are talking salmon and terrible CGI

charles L

Worth the stop , but pricy 65$ for a couple...

Chris Motiu

Great place to visit. Highly recommended.

Darren Dyck

Great view of the canyon on the gondola, but not much on the far side except a couple of typical tourist shops. Just south of the tram in the lower parking lot is a trail that you can walk down to the canyon bridge and cross the river to the shops for free. The trail is actually a service road and is fairly steep so coming back up can be a bit of a challenge if you're not in reasonable shape. There are also fish ladders at the bottom, and although you can see them, they are not directly accessible to the public.

Robert Hamilton

Don't drive by without stopping here. We spent about 2 hours here and it was absolutely wonderful. Take a ride down to the bottom of the river valley. You will learn alot of history about not only how the railway screws things up today but how they have done it in the past as well.

Amanpreet Randhawa

Very friendly staff. Its a good one time experience. A lot of history to learn.

Mindy Letendre

Amazing views and reasonable prices. 3 of us (2 adults 1 youth) went for a little over 2 hours and spent ;including ticket costs) just over $200

Bonnie Young

Amazing the force the water has as it rages down the Mighty Fraser. Interesting facts about the Fraser River back in the 1800's are available at the end of the 2 minute tram ride

Andre Dumais

A tad expensive for the value. Specially if travelling with a large group. You can hike down and take the tram back for half the price. I'm do that next time. They did not have enough staff running the place when we visited. We gave up on ice cream because they had one staff and a dozen patrons. Nice place to visit

Darlene Buttazoni

Wow! Beautiful view of canyon and great story. The tram ride was smooth and efficient. Thank you for the tour!

Infinerdy

It was a nice drive up Hwy 1. The ride itself was short but it takes you down to a small but interesting set of buildings that house an exhibition, a few shops and a restaurant. The attraction was not as crowded as in years past, due to …

Operating Hours: Monday to Sunday: 10 A.M. - 5.P.M.

A Sull

Gorgeous place to visit on your way somewhere or even just as a day trip! Lots of interesting things to see although one of the museum's was closed the day we went. Could easily spend 4-5 hours there. Also, buy the fudge. All the fudge. I only purchased 3 flavours and can't justify the cost of the ticket to go get more!

karthik krish

Short and steep tram ride across Fraser River.

Stephanie Hilton

Tried to go to Hell’s Gate today , they required passports even though they don’t fall under any of the PHO categories. Didn’t care what I had to say sadly. I know a lot of these businesses are operating under fear of punishment by the government but it’s pretty crazy when businesses who don’t come even close to any of the categories requiring passports are starting to make up their own rules, it’s medical discrimination. They told me that they were a private business and could do whatever they wanted and I should call work safe to make a complaint if I was unhappy. The thing is although they are private they are open to the public, but only if you are vaccinated. This is wrong on so many levels. please educate yourselves

Sandra Karr

Very peaceful drive to the location - not too many vehicles on the highway - and sufficient parking. Spectacular views all round! Airtram ride was very cool and views exceeded expectations. We were on site for a number of hours and it never got too crowded so pretty amazing for anyone who wants photos.

Nessa

This was a beautiful and fun place to visit. There were activities for kids, food, and a walk along the bridge if you want to. The Airtram was a smooth ride and the staff was very friendly! We highly recommend this place!

Colton Barker

The pure history and original purpose for its existence deserves 5 stars on its own. The view is breathtaking, the history is eye opening and borderline uncomprehendable. The fudge is amazing! Despite not a whole lot to do, you can still easily find yourself there for 2-3 hours. 137% recommend to those looking for an experience where nature meets man. Online booking was so easy, definitely the way to go. Enjoy!
