So beautiful! Especially in the fall. Easy walk. Cool tunnels! Love the history and picturing how different it was back then to now.
Beautiful & family friendly hike through a small part of B.C. history.
I really enjoyed the natural beauty and incredible history surrounding these tunnels. It was a nice relaxing and easy walk.
Amazing place to visit
So beautiful! Just amazing views and really nice walk. The trail is super clean, just really dusty, great for families, but if you have a stroller it can be a little bit awkward to push at points. You are aloud to bring dogs-this is awesome. There are also a lot of places to stop and sit if you need, and garbage cans :)
Different and pretty. Coquihalla Canyon Provincial Park, or Othello Tunnels near Hope, BC , is focused on the canyon of the Coquihalla River and a decommissioned railway grade, now a walking trail, leading eventually to Coquihalla Pass. Originally part of the Kettle Valley Railway, five tunnels and a series of bridges follow a relatively straight line through the gorge, which is lined with sheer, flat rock cliffs.
Impressive and beautiful place
I have experienced a different world while walking through the tunnels....I highly recommend to visit this place.
Beautiful park and walk. Easy for all ages.
Google maps says the tunnel is closed. But, it's closed at the further end, so u can walk through tunnels till the further end and return. It will be dark inside the tunnel. Better to carry a flashlight for safety. Also there will be water seeping inside the tunnel, but it's not pouring.
Even more beautiful then I imagined!
Cool and dark tunnels
Nice short trail through old tunnels, beautiful river and rocks around
Quick trip from Vancouver... great place..loved it
Absolutely beautiful place. The Othello tunnels trail is stunning. Very glad I decided to go!
Very beautiful
Very nice hike great views
Loved the walk-through tunnels and the surrounding area. A beautiful day made the views that much more spectacular. Some areas in the tunnel get dark, others have water dripping down and loose gravel so you shouldn't try to cycle thru. Take time to learn about the amazing history of this place. Definitely coming back with the family as it is a pretty flat walk not too long at all. Would highly recommend it for all ages, you need to see it at least once.
Fabulous hiking trails, lots of history here!
Great place for hiking
An amazing tourist attraction with breathtaking natural views and man-made wonder. There are several huge tunnels that used to host railroad. Canyons with rapid current. Free parking and free admission. But go as early as possible to secure a parking space for whole day activities. Make sure to bring a flashlight as some tunnel are long and peach dark.
Best place to visit . Tunnels are really the best part to see . Along with this , the river makes the scene awesome.
Very cool! Tunnels are cool
Rambo First Blood was filmed here years ago. The canyon and woods, a short drive from Hope which was also used for the film. Crystal clear water and a long set of tunnels for the old railroad that once passed thru herr. Easy hike and great canyon views
Best place to spend time in hope area...
Great place to walk, check out history.
Beautiful location. Nice hike othello tunnels are a must see
Stunning views, great trail to walk. Lots of exciting things to see. Bring your family, friends and dogs. Tunnels are a sight to see. There's a spot you can walk down and see the rapids up close. There a bridges overlooking some amazing sights. Outhouses on site as well.
Great park and the Othello tunnels are epic.
The Othello tunnels is a short walk through a very scenic canyon. This is an old railroad grade trail very friendly even to those who can't do a more stenuous route. The river is awesome, and the old tunnels are a sight worth seeing ,walking through them takes you back in history. The tunnels are dark but short enough that they can be navigated even if you do not have a flashlight although carrying one is highly recommended.
A lovely trail with tunnels. Fun for kids.
Great hike for families and kids. An easy level terrain with beautiful wilderness and spectacular views. The tunnels from the old train route are neat to walk through and provide just enough spookiness for some fun. The path is really easy and no major inclines. The parking lot does fill up and there are only the outhouses at the beginning. Overall a great place to hike
About a 3 km walk to the tunnels from the parking lot, along the railroad grade, wide trail. The tunnels are fantastic! Don't miss this if you have a chance. The River gorge bridges between tunnels are also beautiful and an amazing feat of engineering back at the turn of the century.
Tons to see. Lots of good exercise love this place. Even when you can't access the tunnels
Beautiful place, easy to walk and the canyon is incredible!
Gorgeous vistas and easy ealk
Amazing history. Incredible scenery. Great way to unplug.
Very pretty. The tunnels are accessible as an easy walk, but there is an optional hike. Not a difficult hike, but make sure you wear proper shoes! The hike is not as pretty as the tunnels.
Big giant tunnel you can walk into. This place is only open during summer.
Went to see Othello tunnels. Was an awesome walk.
Really beautiful for traveling
The Othello Tunnels were very nice. Trail was very wide and maintained, canyon was beautiful. We were there during the middle of the week and there were quite a few people. Still plenty of parking available. Just know that with more people means more people standing on the bridges trying to take the perfect selfie and others standing in the middle of the bridge waiting for their turn at the rail.
So fun for the kids. And then a swim in Kawkawa Lake
This was my first time walking in tunnels! The sign said to bring a flashlight but even though we forgot it wasnt completely dark so we could still find our way. Also watch out for the drips inside the tunnels. It wasnt too much but if you want to avoid drips wear a hoodie in the tunnels. Overall had lots of fun on this casual walking trail!
Beautiful place with tunnels and waterfalls. Went to a little hike at the end before coming back. The place is quite crowded with family and visitors though.
Not to be missed! Well worth the short side trip. Beautiful river and scenery all the while you are walking through this series of railway tunnels built in the early 1900s. Mind blowing experience.
Astonishing views, enigmatic tunnels, majestic mountains. It was so beautiful and fairytale-like place. Instead of planned 2 hours we spent almost half a day there. Highly recommend. Don't forget a flashlight or something similar
Good place to visit during summer.
It is just splendid & too beautiful to admired.
Gorgeous, well kept trails that take you through old railway tunnels. We went on the hottest day of the year, and really enjoyed the coolness the tunnels provided!
Great place to walk around.
Cool to walk an old rail road bed.
A must see for the water and canyons. Have a youtube video of this great place.
Hometown of Rambo: First Blood. Its a small town with a lot of beautiful views and lots of activities.
A great place to visit with kids! The tunnels are fantastic and the canyon is just gorgeous. An easy, stroller-friendly walk (though some of the bridges are narrow). Bring your phone and/or a flashlight.
We enjoyed the tunnels; they were fun and the area is gorgeous. The canyon is mossy with blue water flowing. The first tunnel (4 tunnels total) was surprisingly long. And it is crazy how vertical the rock walls are. They go straight up. It's cool to think of the engineering they had back in the early 1900's to build these.
Other than the fact that is was super busy and crowded it was absolutely beautiful. Really nice and peaceful walk and so much to see and explore. Kids had a great time.
Loved learning of the history of the tunnels and railway. You get a better idea of what it took to build these lines through the mountains.
Amazing pace to go for a day trip
Our family always has fun here. The parking is usually good but sometimes in summer it can be super busy. Unique history walking down the old train tracks.
A must stop for any road trip going through Hope.
It makes me happy every time I go here.
Love this place. Theres cool tunnels. Amazing river running threw it all. I'm going back in the summer to see more.
The amount of times I have driven by Hope in my lifetime and never stopped here is just silly. Finally make the easy detour heading from Vancouver to Kamloops. An hour well spent discovering the history and engineering marvel of the Othello Tunnels. Great stop to shake out the legs on a west coast road trip.
Great place for a day outing and a bit of exploring. Some nice train tunnels to walk through.
The scenery and views are so insanely gorgeous. The tunnels are reall newt too.
Interesting stop to make if traveling the Coquihalla. Short walk in the woods then through the four tunnels. Bring a flashlight if you don't like the dark.
Quiet and peaceful. Bring you portable BBQ and stay the day.
Lovely afternoon walk through the tunnels. Loved sitting by the river in the sunshine. Parking can be difficult, arriving mid afternoon the car park was full. We hit a spot after about 10 mins.
A beautiful place to spend a morning. This is where man meets nature. The tunnels are built along side the canyon and rushing river making it a sight and sound experience. Some part of the tunnels are literally dripping wet, and shrouded in complete darkness, but there's always a light at the end of the tunnel ????
Very unique place close to hope. Is a must if you are in the area.
Love the park! Only downside is the tourists/ locals who don't know what trash cans are for and leave trash, I end up bringing a bag to collect water bottles ect that I find discarded on the trails and path.
Excellent beauty of nature.
Amazing tourist place! So fun! Great place to go to with children. But make sure to go to the bathroom before you come as the bathrooms are not very clean.
Beautiful short hike.
Beautiful! Very nice walk. The tunnels are so historic. The nature is so amazing.
Amazing park and unique experience walking through the tunnels. Well worth stopping to see.
A really interesting experience, at how hard people worked so we could have what we have today.
Amazing trail and absolutely stunning tunnels!!!! I would recommend everyone stop here at least once!!!! If you're brave enough there is plenty to explore all around the bridges!!!! There's even a few nice places to swim!!!
Great for all ages.
Very cool place a bit of the BC Railroad history.
Drove and took a nice ride by the woods had a nice peaceful time. Beautiful scenery and fresh air. Will come very soon.
The Park is easily accessible from the highway - it was very crowded when we got there on a weekend in July - but the crowd thins out if you continue hiking into the lush forest trails past the tunnels. The canyon views are breathtaking. Recommended hike.
Water view, great, and there is a secret down hill trail to the water, at the last tunnel entry.
Awesome place!
Beautiful place! Originally came to get a couple pictures for my community website but ended up taking like 100 just because it was so amazing to see everything. The rushing waters between the massive rock walls, the dark tunnels with something majestic about them when your eyes adjusted, the waterfalls and all the nature and greenery you could imagine. It was a nice walk up and back the views were well worth it. Got some amazing shots!!
Awesome place to take a quick break when driving the highway. Also, you can say you visited the place where they filmed the iconic and classic First Blood! #Rambokicksass
Absolutely love the tunnels. My girls love it too. ????
Beautiful river Rapids with transformed railway bridges that cross the gorge numerous times amongst decommissioned railway tunnels. Spectacular view points. Stroller and wheelchair accessible
Went here for the Othello tunnels. It was a cool short trek. Worth stopping by if you're near or if it's on the way. There were some more difficult trails that we didn't get to check out.
Very nice BC park. Easy trails if you just want to see the tunnels, otherwise it's a decent 3km loop with some challenging climbs.
Love this place so go somewhere else plz ????
We are have great time there.
A truly underrated gem!
Good short walk. Interesting area.
Very beautiful and relaxing place
Nice place, beautiful views
Good nature walks
Cool place to visit
Amazing place to visit. If you are in Canada and haven’t seen it yet, means you are not in Canada. This is really beautiful
This is an awesome walking path. Definitely recommend it if you are in the area. It is a nice short hike.
A beautiful place to visit. However, it is too fas from GVA.
It's no longer a park it has been decommissioned for many years.its now over grown and has been abused and used and dumping grounds for pigs who can't spend the 20$ in dump fees.only time it gets visited is when we go in and try to clean it up for the highway maintenance....once was a very nice day use area
On a warm sunny day it is so refreshing to walk the gentle incline of the Kettle Valley railway trail , through the dark and cool tunnels carved through solid bedrock , and along side of the Nicolum river's rushing roiling waters
Nice place, good for hiking.
Very cool piece of Canadian history. Gates are closed until later this spring though.
Beautiful Scenery just over an hour's drive from Vancouver
Been driving my for years, and never stopped as we buzzed by the highway. This time, we took the kids and dog for a walk through the Othello Tunnels, a dip in the Coquihalla River, and lunch at the parking lot. The tunnels, which cut through the canyon, and bridges connecting them were an interesting site. The area was pet friendly, with both dogs on and off leash. It's busy! Keep that in mind, as campers (designated sites near by) and transient visitors on their road trip do stop in.
peace of mind in nature's lap ..
Amazing. Tunnels were so surreal, gorges were amazing, trail was a little challenging but worth it if you have 2 to 3 hours to kill. Love the moss on the trees, so pretty.
Love this place. The trail is pretty straight forward just a long walk but very nice and neat path
Cool place to go for a walk. The rushing water below the Othello Tunnels in mesmerizing to look at. The way the water has formed the rocks is beautiful.
Merritt esso is Open
Moderate difficulty. The tunnels are easy and beautiful, but the hike on the loop is pretty steep. If it’s wet it’s slippery. Wear proper hiking shoes! Loved this hike it was about an hour 45 to do the whole thing. Amazing views very quiet and no cell service in the bush.
Great spot to enjoy an easy hike in the outdoors and see some cool history too.
Another area in BC to see. simply amazing
Beautiful but the tunnels were closed for winter that was disapointing
Absolutely gorgeous. The tunnels are short and easy to walk for anyone and the surrounding wilderness and cliffs are breathtaking. Definitely worth a stop. You will want to bring shoes though. The tunnel floors are gravelly and a bit uneven. You wouldn't want to stub your toe. Note that after the stretch of tunnels end is a walking trail that goes all the way to Hope. There are no more tunnels after that first group.
Simply spectacular.
A great place to visit. It can be a nice easy stroll. The paths are wide so it's ideal for families, groups, or just keeping your distance. Such a beautiful spot to visit AND a bit of history as well!!
It's a great place to go for a walk on a hot day. The rock tunnels really help a guy cool off. Very interesting engineering feat too! Intelligent determination. Take the suggested flashlight if you have one.
The tunnels are really something to see. It’s a really nice walk threw the tunnels with a hiking trail at the end, that goes back to the parking stalls. The hike is very easy.
Beautiful place. Great access, wonderful views
Amazing stop on the way to Vancouver. Great quick walk through the tunnels. Parking was the only downside on a busy weekend.
What a beautiful place to visit with stunning views. This reminds me a lot about Hua-Lian and the east coast of Taiwan, where I used to visit as a kid. Can't believe I've only discovered this place after decades in BC. I would highly recommend!
What an amazing place. Beautiful, true nature and power with the river beside he trails. 100% worth the visit if your within 2 hers drive. Park is well kept and clean. Well done staff
A fun family walk back in time. The historic tunnels, the river and the rock formations of the canyon is awesome. Should come early as parking is limited. Kawkawa lake is a good location to stop, rest and unpack your food for a hungry stomach.
Well renowned for a stunning 5-tunnel trail, this is definitely an amazing attraction worth visitors' go-and-back for one hour or so to enjoy water roaring and rushing through Coquihalla River's narrowest section and the awesome granite tunnels. Even the trail from parking lot to the tunnels is quite relaxing and therapeutic.
Always a joy, these are taken in very hard to get places, half the adventure is getting there.
A best place to spend time with family surrounded by nature!
Fabulous place! It's completely worth the trip.
The Hope-Nicola loop is a beautiful hike, not too challenging that ends at the Othello tunnels.
This place is so peaceful, but needs to have little food arcades so that people can enjoy hot meals too.
Awesome walk and fun to take the kids. Beautiful. Bathrooms there at the start only. Parking gets full cause its popular.
Easy to get to, clean and supplied outhouses. Of course it's beautiful and lunch on the picnic benches was the cherry on top.
The tunnel and river were beautiful. Great place for a walk or run. The entrance have non-flush toilets.
This park is a nice, even trail suitable for strollers, wheelchairs, and walkers. For those wanting to see and experience the tunnels it will be disappointing. Due to hazards the tunnels are blocked off with a huge gate. The walk to the entrance of the tunnels is still a nice one that takes you along the river.
Beautiful
Park use is year round but the tunnels are open seasonally. Check the website carefully. Tunnels open in May15, 2020. So unless you want to jump the fence you won't be walking through the tunnels until spring.
Great place to visit.
Amazing place to visit.
Absolutely stunning . Very busy at weekends in summer. Avoid long weekends due to crowds. Family friendly , dog friendly.
Beautiful stop. Interesting history.
Great little park just outside hope. Easy walk and the tunnels and trestles are amazing. Make sure you park properly as on the weekends the tow truck lives there.
This place is great, Amazing views, a must place to go
Nice park with enough parking spaces. The trail was good. Walking through the tunnels was a good experience.
Easy walk, I recommend carrying a flash light or using your flash on phone, it gets quite dark in the tunnels. it was pretty busy when we got there I'd say get there early morning if you want to enjoy the scenes without many people
Easy hike into the tunnels
Wow, a great view!! Amazing work they made!!!
Coquihalla Canyon Provincial Park ⛰Othello Tunnels Coquihalla Canyon Provincial Park, popularly called the Othello Tunnels is a provincial park located near Hope, British Columbia focused on the canyon of the Coquihalla River and a decommissioned railway grade, now a walking trail, leading eventually to Coquihalla Pass. Originally part of the Kettle Valley Railway, five tunnels and a series of bridges follow a relatively straight line through the gorge, which is lined with sheer, flat rock cliffs. In the early 90's, the Canadian Pacific Railway decided to connect the Kootenays with the southern coast of British Columbia, and it was decided that the best option was a route through the Coquihalla Gorge. Nowadays, the path has been restored as part of the Kettle Valley Railway Trail and no longer has any railway tracks. It is known for its gradual change in elevation. The location of the Othello tunnels near the convergence of several historic trails--the Hudson's Bay Company brigade trail, the Dewdney Trail and the Hope-Nicola Valley Trail--has both historical and recreational importance. These early trails assisted in the opening up of the province for settlement and resource extraction beginning in the late 1840s. The Hope-Nicola Trail is now a popular hiking route. The tunnels are the most important visitor attraction in the Hope area, representing both an economic and interpretive opportunity for the town of Hope. A destination for local and regional outdoors groups, the tunnels, park and trails are valued for the recreational opportunities they provide local citizens and tourists for viewing, walking, picnicking, photography and fishing. The site is also important for its extensive use by the film industry (the most well-known film being 'First Blood') and for the establishment of visitor facilities by the Hope Chamber of Commerce through a Canada Works Grant prior to the area being designated a recreation area. ⚠️TUNNELS & TRAIL Please Respect & Help to Preserve this Historical and Ecologically Sensitive Area by: - Using Garbage Containers - Staying on Trails - Reduce Noise Keep your Pets Restrained. Amazing place to visit! Breathtaking! The history behind these tunnels is amazing!
Visited the Othello Tunnels, not too crowded and Parking was easy to find
The sheer height of the walls as it's profound man made walls create a sense that your in another world. It feels like im in a video game and looking at impossibly made structures. I love this spot for photos and would come back again
Amazing scenery. Great walk. My kids loved it. My youngest who has CF even did the hike!
Good
Great mild hike for all ages shapes and sizes. Phenomenal views and great history lesson
I find the construct very impressive and well maintained. I wasn't expecting the river beside it to be raging with white water and the view of the water itself was impressive. The temperature inside the tunnel dropped 5 degrees celsius relative to the outside ambient temperature. We were there during 28 degree weather and when I went inside I had to put on my wind breaker. Very cool inside the tunnels. Also very dark, made for an interesting sensory deprivation experience. Overall, I would go here again as part of my day trip. I wouldn't make this the focal point of a long drive because the experience is short. We came here as part of our trip to hell's gate, which made it worth while.
I can't believe it took me so long to find out about this place! Everything is beautiful! The water, the mountains, the rocks, cliffs, and of course the Othello Tunnels!
Great walk, nice breeze.would go again
Great place to bring the famjam
Such an amazing place. Highly highly recommend
This place exudes history and is spectacular in the natural beauty that is still here too. Takes you back in time to walk through the historical tunnels, and they do a good job explaining the difficulties of building this engineering marvel.
"McCulloch's Wonder" This place was awesome. Was plenty of parking in the shoulder season. Great historical railroad significance here. Can't help marvel at what they accomplished back at the turn of the century. Highly recommend. Was a very easy 10-15 min walk to the beginning of the tunnels from the parking lot.
Everything was Awesome to see...the only problem is there worst washrooms .....if you are going to visit it...I advise to go washroom in some gas station before visiting it.
There was a guy playing the flute in one if the tunnels. A fun time.
Hiking place
Love it ❤ amazing
The Othello tunnels are worth a stop if you are coming back or heading to the interior. Great history lesson and amazing scenery. It's a short flat walk and you won't be disappointed.
Excellent park for hang out
The nature at its best. If I did not have more commitments towards life; I would have lived within the park. I am so impressed.
Great park + Tunnles, just nog very many benches for the elderly, and the bathrooms could use some more upkeep
Beautiful river. Short walk but never River falls.
Beautiful scenery as well as an important part of Western history. U just feel different kind of relaxation walking through one of the best nature and man made wonders. So much greenery and the freshness of the air. The sound of the river bouncing off the canyon just makes the best no instrument music ever. I can literally spend all day there jus exploring woods and water and just listen to the water and nature's sounds. Simply just love it!!!
Great stop off in Hope if you're driving through the area. The walk is only about 1km so it was the perfect stop to stretch our legs and checkout a BC gem. The tunnels are well maintained and kept and it's not very busy on the weekdays. The area has lots of parking and very clean bathrooms and for the most part people are great at keeping the area clean and devoid of trash. Definitely check it out as it's beautiful and serene!
Good for walking and the views are breathtakingly amazing
Breathtaking walk through the canyons and tunnels. One of a kind experience.
I love you First Blood food places
Loved the unique tunnels and the fast gushing water underneath. Not crowded and provided many opportunities to relax and take a long walk. Many places available to sit along the way.
Good place to explore the history. Weekends are busy, only a few parking spot left when arrived around 9am.
Really good place to stop for a rest and walk around a bit. Beautiful Canyon and cool tunnels to walk around in. A few signs describing the history of the area as well. Pit toilets only, with no hand sanitizer, but they were being cleaned when I was there.
Its well worth the visit
Easy hike. Go half way (through the tunnels and head back.) Or continue on and finish the loop. The tunnel portion is packed gravel and loose gravel. You can take a large wheel stroller. There are some uneven ground in the tunnels but doable. Tooka three year old who enjoyed going through using a small flashlight. Beautiful views mixed with some history. If you p ly have 1-2 hours this is a nice stop.
An absolute must see for the few months its open. Two trails to choose from, the easy, all flat walk to and through the tunnels and back, or the long 5km loop. How anyone could think these are less than 5 stars is beyond me. Only 11 minutes drive out of Hope BC from our location, its easily the easiest choice for getting back to nature.
The tunnels are closed end of Oct to mid May, but are an amazing feat of engineering in a stunning backdrop when opened. Recommended going mid week during the summer to beat the crowds.
Such a beautiful creation..had a great time with the whole fam.
It's really worth to visit place. Breathtaking
It's a fairly short walk. My family and I enjoy the walk and there are very pretty views. There are picnic tables in the parking lot which is nice.
Beautiful scenery...enjoyable walk.
The gate is closed, but when I took a picture of inside, it's very weird that it shows a shadow of people in there...is this really happend?
Nice hike from end to end on this trail. Follows the old Kettle Valley Railway route and although much is on a grade, it isn't too steep. The trail travels through a rock cut and parallels the Coquihalla river for most of the route. The east end has several old train tunnels and bridges over roaring water and is quite spectacular.
A very beautiful walk. Walking through those long tunnels is amazing with spectacular views between sections!
It is worth watching but not with small kids because roads are not paved and you have to walk about 1.5-2 km to see all three tunnels. If you ate going to see then take your runner or any comfortable shoes with you . Views are awesome .
The Othello Tunnel is very spectacular, leaves you in awe of the work people have done in the past. The Hope-Nicola Valley trail is a good 3km hike. Most people visit this place for the tunnels, so it's a quiet hike for this trail.
So beautiful in every season. A must see through out the year
Beautiful drive just make sure you gas up haha!
Absolutely beautiful
Great little day trip from vancouver. Go early to avoid crowds
This place is spectacular. This has to be one of the most beautiful trails I have ever done. Spectacular views, amazing tunnels, a beautiful river and a incredible boreal forest. The walk to the tunnels is super easy. The only downside about this place is that it can get EXTREMELY crowded. Keep your children in sight.
The heights were rather scary..
Great place to spend a fun day with family. Trail is easy flat walk. Kids love going through tunnels. Park was quite busy on long weekend but we still managed to find parking space. Will recommend it to everyone.
Good place to see but no signal.
Breath taking!!!!
Nice place to visit. Very poor directions on road
Always a nice walk for both young and old alike.
Love the signage, the tunnels are surreal. I disliked the number of flashlights in the tunnels, as it took away from the special exp of being in near total darkness in the middle of the day. Also, on the way back there was a boulder that wasn't there on the way through. A bit scary.
Great little trail
Good historical place
This place has 4 tunnels which was built in 1914.
A great place to take the whole family. It's an easy walk. No big hills. At least for the tunnel portion.
Beautiful park with paths layed out though tunnels and bridges. The views are outstanding with a large river passing through it. It is known for the famous Othello train tunnels which you can visit. Walking through these can be quite dark so make sure you have good shoes on. Public washrooms are available at the car park.
Fun and easy walk with the family. The tunnels are cool to see, we brought flashlights for the kids. Google maps tried to take us on quite the drive but we just followed road signs
Very pretty, and the views on the trail is spectacular. Go early to get parking. Very busy there
Great hike up the back side of the othello tunnels. Learned something new about the history of the KVR. Beautiful views
Such a beautiful place to explore! The Othello tunnels are pretty amazing as well. Love it!
Super cool stop over on the highway. Free entry which was a plus! Beautiful area with picnic tables and plenty of parking. Trail was well maintained and easy enough for people of all ages. Walking through the tunnels were super cool! Quite dark and possibly wet gravel and dripping water from above. I would reccomend for anyone to come here and see this beautiful place!
It's a man made marvelous. I was jaw dropped to see the beauty of nature, beautiful mighty river flowing , and those dark ,mysterious tunnels. It's a part of history which remind us how man conquered those high mountains against all the odds. It's a must visit place for all who enjoy a long walk surrounding with nature's beauty.
Great our door space with plenty of room for everyone. Othello tunnels extremely interesting to walk through, reasonable one hour or so trail for average people. Fantastic view to the valley and river below.
It’s fully open right now, cool place to visit.
The walk, the view, and the absolute spectacle of the tunnels and the canyon is amazing! It looks like someone from Disney came out and fabricated the tunnels and scenery around it. If you're driving along the Coquihalla and have time to stop, definitely do.
This park contains the Othello Tunnels and the beginning of the Kettle Valley Trail. It has some nice hiking, biking and walks. Expect parking to be difficult, but the hike is nice. The main trail is wide and strong, it's the old railway tracks, after all. It is good to walk along even when it's busy, and nicely built for bikes where there are fewer tourists. We hiked one of the smaller trails, up and around the small mountain in the middle of the park. It was a little steep in places, but it was a nice hike. You are spending the whole time in the forest - there are no big open lookouts that you can see for miles from. It is a nice forest, though, and the shade helps in the summer. I'd suggest eating in the parking lot as there are no tables on the trails and no garbage cans. --You will have to carry out all of your garbage from the trails, too, don't leave it behind!!!-- There are some outhouses where the trail meets the parking lot. They were pretty clean and not stinky; nicely maintained.
Great park showcasing the railroad history in British Columbia. Really cool tunnels to walk through. Bring a flashlight to ensure you can see where your walking as the ground is a little uneven in the tunnels. Very cool views of the river and canyon. Very short walk from the parking lot. Definitely worth a visit. Can get very busy on a hot summer day though.
A beautiful place to visit. My family enjoyed at this place alot.
It's nature so close to home
The kids enjoyed the tunnels very much but we arrived at 11 am and had to park well down the road from the parking lot and walked in. This was no big deal but when we went to leave at about 1 pm it took a half hour to get out with all the traffic pouring in including tour busses that just wouldn't fit.
Always a terrific place to go for a walk. I highly recommend a visit here - but not during a long weekend (where it seems to turn into a gong show).
Beautiful site. Always love going here. It was busy but was fairly spaced out between groups. Parking was a challenge, but still ok. It would be nice if there was a sign for the pathways after the tunnels. Would help to decide the length you want to go and if something is there you want to see.
One of my favourite stops either to Vancouver or from or just for the heck of it. Be sure to read all of the signs explaining the history; the accomplishments and the losses. Take a light jacket some runners and continue past the tunnels for a bit of a hike/walk and don't forget your lunch!
Beautiful stunning and easy walk. A must see if your in the area or driving through. Good place to stretch the legs. Good and Accessible for all ages. The tunnels are large and wide but some may want to turn on their cell phone or flash lights as they walk through to avoid stepping on uneven ground. Also caution should be taken near the water as it is quite powerful.
Short walk. Well worth the time. Amazing scenery
Beautiful nature
Nice easy hike.
Really interesting scenery between the tunnels and the river . A couple of moderate level hiking trails. All in all a nice place to spend a day
Fantastic place with lovely naturescene. Also a historic reminder. Are your a bitten geocacher so is here some nice caches to seek after. ???? Went here summer 2017 with my fiance and som Canadian friends. #letsguide
Good place to visit and stroll with families and dogs.
Just loved this walk, really want to return again & again. Maybe walk for several hours along this beautiful, easy grade, railway trail. Would be a great trail for a novice who wants mountain bike or cross bike. Riding a horse along the trail itself would be amazing, though I'd probably take a alternate route from the parking lot to bypass the tunnels & bridge's. Exploring the tunnels, bridges & gorge was exhilarating. We walked blindly through the tunnels, a flashlight or headlamp would be a advisable for those who have coordination issues like me. Definitely worth the effort to visit.
Awsome
Nice hike with beautiful views of the water.
Beautiful place.
Beautiful area to walk and relax the Tunnels and the River were amazing
It was pretty amazing to see the tunnels. Def a gem visit.
This place is awesome!!
A very nice park, so cool inside the tunnel and so great to listen the waterfalls's huge sound surrounded by huge rocks, you can forget all your worries and unhappy inside there.
Absolutely worth checking out
It was a great experience.
Absolutely beautiful!!!
Beautiful place ! Check out the Othello tunnels if you're in the area.
Wow. What a great little surprise. Easy walk choice of turning back after 1 km or going the full 3km. Beautiful scenery, well maintained. Picnic tables in the parking area to enjoy a snack. Only challenge is finding parking if you get there later in the day.
Great park and nice bathrooms
Nice park.
Gorgeous views, has something for someone at any level of skill, from simple walks to full scrambles.
We got some water...some tunnels and hey ..bridges too
Sheer natural beauty of this spot is worth the visit as are the tunnels. Road in is rough and steep and although we made in a 30ft motorhome, might be a challenge pulling a larger trailer. Sign advising that car thieves at work in the parking lot was rather odd - but we enjoyed our visit.
Was nice and clean, definitely get there earlier to get parking. If you can get there during the week it is slower
Beautiful place. Nice to visit with family and friends. Free. Busy on weekends. Parking not too bad. Great experience.
The tunnels are unique in being so close together. Nice walk through a part of history. Short and easy trail from the parking lot. We went early Saturday morning and had the trail to ourselves. Don't forget some sort of flashlight. Parts are pretty dark without a light. Nice views of the river also.
So beautiful! Can't wait to go in the summer
Such a neat and easy little walk for the family!
This is an amazing and impressive place with a mix of natural and man-made wonders. The tunnels are an amazing and impressive engineering feat, and are a testament to one of the most impressive railways ever built. The Kettle Valley Railway. The only reason why I give this provincial park 4 stars, not five, is that there is not nearly enough parking for the amount of visitors and often you have to wait for a parking spot to become available with the lot full and people parked where permitted all the way along the road leading to the park.
Beautiful scenery! Watch the signs though! We ended up going on a 2.5 hour hike that we thought was going to take .5 to 1 hour & ended up coming out of the bush in the dark. The tunnels are to the left of the toilets!
Just Google photos of here
Great place to go walking outdoors. Beautiful trail through the old train tunnels along the river.
Nice easy walk. Good escape on a hot day!
The canyon is worth a visit.
Very cool place to go hike.
While this is somewhat off of the beaten path, the tunnels are obviously popular for hikers, walkers and cyclists. A big bonus on a 39C day was the access to the cool water of the adjacent river.
Beautiful running stream and surrounded mountain and greenery
Great place to hike
Kid friendly trail and great views...
Nice
Beautiful place! Loved the quick hike to the tunnels. Sad that the gates were closed, but due to falling rock hazards. So you can't control nature! We enjoyed what we could from it.
Beautiful but crowded. No picnic only few benches.
Very nice we loved it.
If you need to get over your fear of dark places, these tunnels will aid you in overcoming those fears. If you need to get over your fears of heights over water, these bridges will dissolve your worries. Experience the wonder of these man made tunnels. You can feel the ancient historical spirits as you wander through the area. A beautiful but short walk with history. Amazing views of the river. Clean facilities.
First time visiting this place, nice walk and the tunnels and surrounding area is amazing.
Very good place to stroll with your family and friends.
Remember Rambo First Blood movie Sylvester Stallone I think in the 80's. Part of the movie was filmed here in Hope.,B.C. It has different sections of Tunnels & Railways. Gorge is stunning views the best time to see the raging water is in June or spring time when rain & ice melts. I've been here a few times but still my favorite stop. It's not far from the highway follow Othello Rd. only 2 minutes.
It is very nice walk and learn more history about it.
First time going there. Went in the tubules and on the bridges. Got to see the fish jumping up the water falls and Rapids. Was so amazing. And if you like to hike. I'd say it's pretty awesome hike in a short form.
Othello mines, its a cool place, be awsome if it wasnt closed, yah i know the web sight says closed since november, but you never know, its definitly closed, ... however .. going around or over the gate, which you should not do, .. will find you at a bigger better gate, wait till spring .. or even summer to go, nice small walk to the tunnels, picnic areas ... it was still a good trip, ill go back when its open
Such a pretty outing! Great day trip from Vancouver
Beautiful and peaceful place to go with your family.
Great place to stretch your legs on the way in or out of Vancouver area.
Othello Tunnels was great
Wow! Made by The Creator, decorated by men and women of the past century. A place to contemplate and appreciate Mother Nature. It is not wheelchair accessible all the way. There's however small initial entrance trail where wheelchair users may advance to. It could be great to have at least a paved side walk to the first viewpoint for wheelchair users. Perhaps tracks for visually impaired persons (to hear the river and feel nature). Thank you.
Great spot for a walk....
The Othello Tunnels were really crowded even at 4 pm but once we started the Nicola-Hope trail the crowds thinned out. The trail is steep and rocky but can be done in about 2 hours.
It’s a great place and enjoyable experienced with family and friends.
Beautiful and exciting walk. Great historical landmark that is a bc must see. Easy to get to off the highway and easy walk that majority of people will find manageable
Always a fantastic walk
We really had a great time
