A classmate of my daughter suddenly died at the age of 12. The school did nothing to help the students except for having a councillor on hand for a few days. When it came time for grad the students wanted to finally get a chance to memorialize her. It was forbidden. Several parents called the board and asked for a group meeting about this. The meeting was denied and the board felt it was appropriate to not memorialize this child. Their policy states that if a child is memorialized it may cause another child to be sad and they wouldn't have councillors available at grad. In the end the students and the community memorialized her at grad anyway despite the fact that it wasn't allowed. It was a horrible experience dealing with this for all of those involved.
