REVIEWS OF Callaghan's Rapids Conservation Area IN Belleville

Love this place! If there are other people, it's a little cramped, but other than that its a very enjoyable place to go chill! The water is fast moving so I don't recommend bringing children. But based on the depth, if you were to bring water shoes, you might even be able to cross the whole river! 10/10 please add it to your list of places to check out even just once :)

Angelo Garcia

Unbelievable place very easy to find but what choice are you going to take there are several trails and you can take any choice but only one leads to the Rapids. I had a wonderful experience with my sons and my wife walking through the nature trails and going through the Rapids the water is shallow there's a lot of rocks and when you get to the falls that are lost to see and lots to do. this is a very pristine area well-preserved away from a lot of Tourism and one can only imagine how much fun and how serine and calm and tranquil this area is, it is indeed a great outing for any ages special for families and especially with kids that want to Splash in the water and have fun I highly recommended it.

Casey Grenier

I don't really want everybody to know how beautiful it is because I want it all for myself all for myself but if I have to share it is a very beautiful place and please be respectful and clean up after yourself . This is the great outdoors not your house so please be respectful because it's a privilege these areas are open for the public.

Callaghan's Rapids is worth taking the time to explore. There are marshy areas so waterproof hiking boots are a must.

Nice for a quick stop if you are in the area, river and rapids are beautiful. It's safe to sit and cool off in the water, it's very shallow all the way through. Must be careful near the one small waterfall/rapids there is a bit of a current and some small deep spots. A few small trails that lead from the parking area to different spots along the water. Definitely worth stopping by.

Stefan P

Not a lot going on here. Short walk from the parking lot to the rapids. Hardly any water during my summer visit. Not ideal for swimming. Watch out for the potholes in the parking lot.

Comfy place. Water is clear and shallow - great to just sit in and relax. We saw lots of cool frogs, snakes, and minnows. Was decently busy when we went during the weekday, but most people were respectful and kept to their own little area. Highly recommend!

Unexpectedly had a lot of fun here! The water was shallow, warm, clear and clean! It is a great swimming spot for kids and toddlers, and adults can comfortably walk across and along the rapids.

bumpkin2001

It was a fun area for the kids to play. Today the water was high because of the rain but still fun to be in. It was harder to cross today with young children. Still a fun refreshing spot to cool off in warm weather

Mark Swiatkowski

Jeff Csordas

Great place to kick back and relax. Small parking lot. Short walk through the bush to the river. Shallow water and smooth rocky bottom that is very easy to walk in. You could walk a long way in the water. Take a lawn chair and some drinks and sit in the river with your feet in the water.

Ilmir Taychinov (R1ml)

Try not to think about how long it will take to walk back to your car as you float down the river

Beautiful to see and hear the river and walk the limestone trail. Saw partridges and a buck, but there were many loud all-terrain vehicles, and coffee mugs and beer cans. Disappointing, as they are prohibited, and took away from the peace and beauty of the place.

Great place to explore.

Took two boys aged 13 and 10. They really enjoyed it. The Falls are not very high and the water not very deep or cold so you can go swimming and splashing around in the Falls. They want to go back. The only downside is no place for camping or fires.

One of the best place to take your kids play in the creek, shallow water on the rock bed

Saquib Shaikh

Nagula Rajaratnam

Not that great spot! Stinky pathway/walkway to the river area and way too shallow for swimming.

Sarah B

Very cool spot to spend an afternoon walking through the river and exploring. The water was warm, clear, shallow and the current was only strong in certain areas near the waterfalls. We had fun looking for frogs, crayfish and snakes. Definitely recommend bringing water shoes as some of the rocks can be pretty sharp and rough to walk on barefoot.

Dave Maloney

My bicycle tire picked up an electrical staple on the trail near the parking lot.

Tamara Walsh

Love living across from here

Rebecca Andrews

Love this place. We take our sons here. However we are dismayed at the condition. We took out 2 garbage bags of haserdous garbage . Also someone has dumped household garbage on the right side of the parking lot in excess of 10 plus bags and it's so much we cant clean it ourselves. Why on earth people think this is ok I don't know. We will be reporting this today. Also camping and atv use in excess also. Beautiful place and I hope it's not closed because of people being careless. Just an FYI while gathering garbage we picked up a 10 inch knife just laying a stone through from the falls up on the bank. It's Shiney so new this summer. Our kids are 4 and 5 can you imagine if they found it or worse fell on it. Disgusted we are !

Have an old photograph of my sister and I sitting under the falls from 20 years ago. So nice!! If you want a day trip highly recommend

Beautiful for swimmi g and picnic.

Marc Dufresne

Very quiet and beautiful conservation area, lots of water areas to walk

Floyd Ferguson

Awesome place to take a day trip. Recommend loading up your family and going. Walk over the rapids during low tide season. Check out the water falls amd caves. The family will have an amazing time.

Patricia Ingley

This beautiful place is right in our very own back yard! Shallow running water with a rock base. Small waterfalls further down. Love it!

Darwin Rambo

Awesome for kids and dogs but, be aware of the strong current in some places.

Carly Riley

Kelly Cairns

It is a lovely place, the actual trail area is quite small but sitting by the water is very enjoyable.

Lauren Cassell

Awesome area. You can walk in the Rapids for a good length.

Callaghan's Rapids is a wonderful place for a picnic. There are a limited amount of picnic benches. Which means they may already be occupied by the time you get there, but no worries. Bring your own chairs and/or beach towels and spread out on one of the many rocks along the river bank or a rock island. The river is shallow and has a main pool that is deep enough for adults and children to comfortably swim in. The pool is created by a wall (about 4ft high) when you're close to the wall the current pushes you towards it, which is a lot of fun. Just be careful the wall is rough and the pressure can be a lot to handle.

Deanna

Beautiful and secluded

Joanne Mumby

Callaghan's Rapids is peaceful yet rugid. It is enjoyable but it is to be respected. A spot of natural beauty. At the top end there is an iron bridge, was a rail line at one time now part of an ATV trail. And at the bottom some various sized falls. This spot jas it all for nature lovers. There are a couple spots for camp fires but you are surrounded by woods. No overnight camping allowed. Do not disrespect it by leaving and dropping garbage, that really annoys the locals.

Dan Harvey

Very beautiful place, water not that deep. You can walk across in many spots. Took lots of pictures.

What a beautiful little gem in Campbellford, Northern Ontario. Our family went for a visit and found some gorgeous, albeit calm, rapids full of life. We saw frogs, crayfish, minnows, birds - and one GIANT snapping turtle. Its a great place to relax and hang out. Easily accessible from the free parking area after a short trail walk. The rapids and surrounding areas are very shallow, so you can bring your little ones into the water safely and with confidence. I love to fish, but most of the area is not very conducive to fishing as the water is so shallow, however there is a deeper area towards the end of the last waterfall, but hard to access by shore.
