REVIEWS OF Whyte Museum of the Canadian Rockies IN Banff

Sam So

Interesting musuem of landscapes painting reminding me of the group of 7

Cynthia Olsen

A treat for visitors to Banff that helps complete the picture of who was instrumental in developing the area. Amazing art gallery, artifacts on mountain climbing and rescue, area development, early settlers. 2 early homes on the premises, not open to the public, scheduled tours might be available or arranged.

Nathaniel Le Chalifoux

A very enjoyable little museum. If you pace yourself you could spend 1.5 hours here looking around.

Denise Mahé

Love going here whenever I visit. So informative and interesting. Lovely staff. I like their online store as well. I just wish everything on there was available to buy, not just certain pieces. ????

Paul Stead

A great place to visit and learn about the local history of Banff and area.

MJ Seager

Interesting little museum with lots of history of Banff and the Rockies. I really enjoyed the photos of early explorers who created the hiking trails in the area and built lodges like Skoki. We visited while the bridle display was on which I really enjoyed. A lot of artwork mixed with the history of humans and horses in the area. There is also a lovely walk behind the museum along the river. The gift shop has all kinds of stuff.

S.P. Dudley

Great local museum showing the culture of the area.

Ruth-Anne Marley

This museum is an absolute treasure.

Chris Botterill

If you're into art, particularly paintings of landscapes and scenery you have to make sure you check this place out. It's also a great place to visit if you want to know some history about Banff and it's people. This particular museum focuses more on the family the museum namesake is named after but after leaving you can still feel it's historical value.

I F

Loved it. Very nice place, with very frienfly staff.

Jared Fedorchuk

Great museum with lots of unknown facts about the history of Banff.

Jay Gould

Love the Whyte! The CMH Heli and tasteful displays of historic Banff and the national parks is so informative and interesting. Excellent gift shop with fabulous posters and creative items from local artists, great for Christmas and birthday gifts!

Abimes Concept

Very nice museum, I like the story and people of Canadien Rockies, also flore and faune, particulary information for the Grizzly bear. How you must doing if you meet a big Grizzly... ;)

M. Jafari

it is good place to get western heritage quickly

Daniel Kocsis

Amazing museum that has lots of various wild life both inside and out of the building. Lots of educational value for anyone visiting the mountains for the first time. Gotta make sure to stop here with friends or family when its open to see how many different animals live in the mountains!

Robert Chernish

awesome. got my local discount, and enjoyed the classy paintings from the group of seven and modern mask exhibit

sonal agarwal

It's a small museum, okay place. $10 entrance fees. You can skip it if not very fond of museum. If have nothing else to do, can visit it once.

Scott Lawrence

Spectacular homage to two ambassadors of the Rockies, whose legacy has been to ensure recognition and dissemination of the lore and knowledge associated with the peoples and cultures of this exceptional landscape.

led zee

Walking distance from downtown Banff. Nice exhibit about the history of the region and art Tickets are $10 and they have student discount. No water is allowed inside (I was told to not carry my water bottle) the museum and no water fountain. Bow river trail runs right behind the museum.

Meghana Raja

Very interesting museum on the history of the area and the exploration of the Canadian Rockies. The temporary art exhibit called "Unbridled" was also very cool to see! The pieces were very unique to the area and a real treat to see. I had a great time at this museum.

Zeke News

The new exhibition "Unbridled" is definitely worth a visit. The mixed media through the decades was well displayed. The other exhibits at the Whyte Museum are excellent too.

Bradley Bam

Very interesting visit. Not really for kids under 6.

Letícia Marcorin

Very interactive. Lots of videos and audios to contextualize the pieces

H- Y-L

Renowned, but as yet unvisited...they closed Dec 29 to Jan? But didn't update their hours online. So, we drove in specifically to visit, only to see the handwritten sign on the door. :(

Rysia Andrade

Both the art gallery and the heritage displays were excellent. The "women of the Rockies" display was my favourite. The gift shop had a great book selection.

Camelot Radloff

It's a little cramped

Joe Can

A good find. information museum with lots of relevant information about Banff. But what blew me away was the edgy art exhibition that happened to be there the day we visited. Kudos Whyte Museum!

Christine McCabe

There was some banging and construction happening somewhere that affected the ambiance. But the exhibits were beautifully laid out, and well lit. Also, best gift shop in the city.

Bob Bonstead

Definitely a worthwhile place to visit. Interesting paintings by the husband and wife who funded the construction of the building. Other artists paintings also for comparisons. Nice museum store with many good selections. Good representations of mountain climbing and heliskiing history.

DAVID STUART ALEXANDER MACKIE

The best and most important Museum dedicated to preserving Mountain Heritage, in the Western Canadian Rocky Mountains in Banff Alberta. Wow. It is the best. And all the archives of mountain photos, art & films +++++ DSAM

Caroline Cunningham

Small museum, but well presented. Lots of info about the history of the area without being boring. Good gallery and shop too. Excellent value.

Jose E

Good place to go when visiting Banff. 10 dollars entrance adults and under 12 free entrance. Not too big. But many interesting things to see about the history of the region. Outside for free you can walk around and see some historic houses moved to the museum. Recommended. The bison dump on a frame from 1800's was something to see LOL. And in the way in you may see a couple of regular visitors from the wild. (See pictures)

Will Stein

This is also a well done museum. The exhibits are very well done. They are informative and offer a lot of information. The art exhibit is small and includes some Japanese art which was interesting to see. Entry fee is reasonable and there are free lockers for your coats and bags. Plan an hour + to see the entire exhibit. Dont miss the recordings as they are really interesting and humorous. On a side street so you have to look for it a block from the river.

Zobair Shibli

Excellent place. Very well behaved staffs. If you have a kid, this place is a must to go. Lots of historical thinhs to learn and especially the art collection is awesome!

Amelia Capell

The care and thought put into the exhibits is amazing and it's always a joy to walk through

Nancy DaDalt

Looking forward to having this important piece of Banff and Banff National Park reopened. Thanks to the team for the private tour (members) and the insights gained. Can't wait to go back and take a couple of hours to really absorb all the new items and the Catherine Robb Whyte exhibit, MANSIONS TO MOUNTAINS. The main gallery has been renovated and there is more space for the sought after Fireside Chats and other engaging sessions important and fun for the community and visitors alike. Don't miss this important cultural feature of Banff.

WREN

Interesting history of Whyte family in Banff.

Gabriel Felx

Nice museum at the heart of banff. Really nice to see the story of the region. One of the few must stop of the city if you like that kind of activities. There is a lot of free parking arround and it's really close to the main street of the city.

Obe Wan Ed

More Art gallery than museum. Worth a stop for art and some local history.

Elizabeth Chong

I thought it had a superb mix of multimedia and traditional exhibits. The Library and Photo Archive was tucked away but well worth spending some time going through the many albums.
