Auto mechanics often have a reputation for taking advantage of people and that is thanks people like Mark at Kipping Tire.
I was in a crunch and needed my rear brakes changed asap so I brought it to the nearest garage and boy do I regret that decision!
Our agreement was that they'd call me in the morning to give me a quote before doing anything on my vehicle and instead they went ahead and disassembled the entire rear braking system. I was quoted $830 for (aftermarket) rear drum brakes on a 13 year old Ford!!! Mark attempted to take advantage of me and was trying to change parts that didn't need replacing (like backing plates and a perfectly functioning wheel cylinder)
When I heard the price I asked for my car back and was willing to pay the $98 charge for the disassembly (which I did not ask for to begin with) but he essentially held my car hostage, threatening to call the police for taking an "unsafe" vehicle, which was only that way because he had taken it apart without my consent.
I had no choice, at that point, but to allow them to do the job, which they purposely took over 4 hours to complete, and after we went over the parts that truly needed changing, suddenly the price became $560 ($270 less than he initially tried to gauge me for!)
If I was as naive as the rest of his clientele, I would have taken his word on the repairs and overpaid on an already overpriced brake-job.
Needless to say, I advise you to take your business elsewhere because they are not honest people at Kipping Tire.
