Today I brought my car in to have my AC recharged (as I do every summer) as the system has a small leak. Before coming in, I was told that the cost to fix my AC would range anywhere between $80-130. As I said previously, I have this procedure done to my car every summer (although at different locations) so I know it should cost around 80 dollars, but I didn’t mind paying a bit more should it be on the high end ($130). So part way through my appointment, the man working at the desk came out and informed me that there is a small leak in my system (which I already knew) and that they’re currently looking for it. Although I should have stopped him at this point and asked for a quote on the inspection, I figured this process accounted for the range in pricing, and that worst case it would cost 130 like stated previously. In truth, at this point the mechanic should have stopped and asked ME if I’d like to proceed and give ME a quote on the work he instead just went ahead and did on my car. You know...like any honest and fair mechanic would. Instead, they lured me to their shop with their fake low pricing and instead charged me $209 for an $80 job. I asked for the price breakdown and why I wasn’t charged within the quote I was given over the phone, and basically I was told that the extra 80 dollars was for the leak inspection (which they never even found by the way). Moral of the story, these people aren’t up front about pricing and will gouge you for services you don’t even need. If someone comes in asking for a simple procedure, do that procedure and nothing more. And if you believe the car REALLY needs something else done, ask first. And be transparent about the pricing and give them an honest quote beforehand. Save your time and your money and find an establishment that doesn’t make a profit off of deceit.
