After a really frustrating few weeks, and having taken our vehicle into this shop once with no results on fixing the problem, (caused by a different service shop) the mechanic we dealt with in our second visit was wonderfully amenable. He worked really hard to diagnose our problem, fixed a couple of other small issues, and considered the expense of our last visit when it came time to settle up. We highly recommend this business, they have great follow through and service.

Four years back, I took my vehicle in after it sounded like there was an issue with the brakes. They quickly gave me a quote for around $900 after a momentary look, believing the cause was my parking brake. A different store solved the problem with one of the shoes for far less. If the same team is there now, as they were before, I would recommend avoiding this place. Who reads Google Reviews anyway though?

Very limited mechanical knowledge, poor in-house communication. Have had multiple disappointing interactions, would not recommend. Brought in car knowing what the issue was, 10 minutes before my appointment that i waited 5 days for i was told a bunch of other stuff was wrong and it was a whole day job. Took it home and did what i suggested they try, fixed the problem completely in an hour in my driveway, no other problems. These people didn't know that it was already in for inspection and was tip top. This is the kinda stuff people are terrified to deal with, why mechanics have such a shifty name now.

Charged 3 hours to replace a wheel bearing. There's no way it could have taken that long, it's like a 30 minute job if you know what you're doing and have the right tools. No complaints about the actual work though, they got the job done well, just definitely over-charged for it. I was quoted 2 hours as well, so pretty unhappy I was charged for 3. I would have been happy if I was charged the quoted time even though it should have only taken <1h.

DO NOT GO HERE. They are crooks. I had to get an out of province inspection completed to switch to BC insurance. I didn't think it would be a problem since I have a 2008. Not that old.. Budget quoted me $2300. I then to my vehicle to a RELIABLE mechanic and showed him everything Budget said was wrong. They did the inspection for $140 and said my vehicle was completely fine and half the things they listed weren't even part of a safety inspection. They said they were clearly trying to rip me off since I'm a female.

Took vehicle in for brake check because sounded like pads was rubbing got slapped with 2000$ bill for hub assembly, suspension coil bushings and sway link bar with a wheel alignment. Drove it next day after work and has worse noises then before and pulls hard to the right. Took vehicle back in Friday to get a hub assembly put on drives side since the employer told me it was the driver's side last time and saw that it got placed on passagers side. Only supposed to be a hour to fix. Called them 2hrs later and was told the part didn't need replacing so they decided to pull my transfer case and drive shaft a long with other stuff. Employer said they went out of their way to find what was going on and should changer my review. 1 day later found out my E brake was disconnected after whatever they did. 3 days later I took my suv to a GM service, within 30mins they showed me that my driver's CV axle was loose. Fixed it. Guess what no noise. Never going back to Budget brake and muffler. Should of guessed with the newspaper blocking the windows so you can't watch them work it would be a money grabbing place.

These guys are awesome! Not only are they friendly but they make you feel at home. Matt & Carlos were amazing to deal with. Matt communicated effectively and made sure to always get work authorized first. Carlos’s extensive knowledge on mechanics & the ability to show you the repair is beyond any other experience at other shops. He isn’t just able to explain it but is able to make sure you understand it so you fully know what is being done. You definitely feel like they are taking care of you and not doing work that wasn’t needed. Especially as a female, it’s even more important to not feel like you are being “taken advantage of”. We took our xterra for a trans fluid change, valve cover gasket replacement and check up. The guys noticed our clutch was on its way out. They got it ordered and installed for us but there was some issues when we left with it. When we took it back they worked to fix the problem and as an apology for us having issues, they fixed a braking issue and changed the other valve cover gasket ($1000 worth of work as a courtesy) who does that???? The clutch was still giving us problems and we were all baffled. I had important plans which required a 4X4, Ryan put me in a rental, took my xterra to a transmission specialist and realized it was a faulty clutch. He replaced the entire clutch again and got it back to me in perfect condition. And wow, I’m impressed. I have never felt so taken care of, I gotta say, I was worried when we got it back and it wasn’t working right. But these guys WORKED IT OUT AND THEN SOME!!!!!!!!! Never going anywhere else with my vehicles. Hands down, best service I’ve ever had. EVER, amazing, these guys don’t stop until it’s right ❤️ Thank you so much Ryan, you’re the best

Went in with an exhaust leak right at a badly burned-looking and worn-exterior flex pipe (see bottom unit in pic) . These great guys discovered that was not the source of the leak but rather just the adjacent gaskets and a bad bolt, just $16 worth of gaskets plus labour. Credit to their great service in saying leave the flex pipe alone for now, it won't last forever but it is not leaking yet! Thanks guys!!!

I first used their services 7 years ago. My muffler had broken off the exhaust pipe. They welded it and gave it back to me with no charge at all. They simply asked me to return if I ever needed a muffler. I returned with a newer vehicle for a general service as I plan of driving across country and didn't want to deal with any breakdowns. They replaced my aging amber signal lights and gave me a service report. They again charged me nothing. I can't say enough about their generosity. The inspection took at least an hour. Please consider them for your business.

I was hearing an awful scraping noise on my brakes and was happy when they were able to get me in right away. They test drove the vehicle and called me to let me know that I needed new front brake pads. Total cost $400. When my wife picked me up from work, the first thing I noticed was that the scraping noise was still there. I brought the vehicle back to them. The owner test drove the vehicle and told my wife that he didn't hear anything (odd), but if the sound persisted to bring it back in a month and they'd look at it again. We took a trip to Southern Alberta and the sound just got worse and worse. How could they not hear anything?!? I called the owner and he seemed suprised that the sound was still there but we both agreed that for safety I should take it to get looked at in Southern Alberta. That's exactly what I did. I found a Brake shop who promptly called me to say that my REAR brakes were the ones causing the problem. They replaced them and POOF no more scraping sound. I contacted the owner of Budget in Vernon who was willing to do NOTHING. I drove to Southern Alberta from Vernon with no back brakes for Pete's Sake!!! How unsafe is that?!? I recently returned from Southern Alberta and approached the owner today. He pretended he didn't know me. Who else called you from Lethbridge Alberta with brake problems buddy??? Don't play dumb! He was unwilling to help me out, told me that they wouldn't have replaced the brakes if they didn't need it. HOW DID THEY NOT NOTICE ANY PROBLEMS WITH MY REAR BRAKES??? Long and short? This place is awful. If you want really unsafe, unprofessional work and deal with a bunch of people that play dumb with your vehicle, take it hear. Otherwise BEWARE!

Had a bad problem with my muffler that I had been putting off for months - the pipe was pretty much broken behind the silencer, so I always sounded terrible going down the street (actually drove across Canada with it). Thought it was going to be such a pain and an expensive problem to fix. Brought it to these guys and they took a look. I knew the problem, and they told it to me straight. Expected a huge bill - said everything would be $85 and had it welded and fixed in an hour. Really recommend these guys.

You gave him an estimate that was over $500 higher than anywhere else.The break pads were put in wrong, and the callipers were not cleaned at all. This is completely unprofessional, and unacceptable. Great customer service , unfortunately during my brake inspection they completely missed that my brake booster was broken. They in fact told me my brakes were fine, and that " that's just the way your car brakes" .... Brakes still malfunctioning I took the car to another mechanic ... they found my booster at fault, problem now fixed. That could have been an accident ... so I won't be trusting them in the future .. they've lost our family business.

I took my HHR in to get looked at by Budget Brake and Muffler (Douglas and Bay) and they suggested a way to fix my muffler that saved me hundreds of dollars. (The other muffler shop that I had just came from had not mentioned that another solution was available.) Instead of having to pay over nine hundred dollars, Budget Brake and Muffler was able to weld on a special new section that was available and manufactured for that purpose. My bill was thus reduced down to $243.00. (I should mention that all the pollution control device pieces were kept in excellent working order) I commend them for their honesty and ingenuity. I would recommend them to my friends. Please feel free to call me if you want to verify this review.

I don't know about other people's experiences but I'm just warning potential customers of this place to beware, they'll rip you off if they can. Maybe you'll have better luck with your issues than I did, but when I came in i spent 200 dollars and got nothing done basically. Waste of time in my opinion better not to go to a franchise.

Rolled in to Vernon for supplies to continue our epic 3 week camping trip only to find we had blowen the front engine gasket. Called in for an appointment and got one for 4pm. Went to drop the truck off at 1pm as I had nothing else to do. And the work was finished by 330. This alone would be great but as I left town and headed back out for adventure I blew my fan belt. I called on Devon and his crew once more and he had a tow truck on its way to pick us up. If you need a service shop that has customer service that goes to 11 these guys have you covered.

I had an issue with exaust rattle and went to budget to get some of the parts replaced. The staff there were friendly and knowledgeable. The service was performed quickly and done very well. Best part of it was that I went in expecting to pay $150-175 (what I was quoted by other places) and when I got the final bill I was only charged half of that for custom Fab work and labor, I was very happy with that plus I was sent away with a $10 coupon for my next visit. I would definitely recommend going here if you are having any issues with your vehicle.

After going to almost every business in town , budget was able to take on the very simple yet annoying project without complaints .. all I needed done was weld a crack on the exhaust and fix one hanger . Most places wouldn't look at it cause the car is very low and wouldn't make it onto most hoists without blocks, brought it to budget and they had it done in no time at all . They were able to accommodate me coming in the same day I called, and fixed the problem. I would highly recommend Budget Brake and Muffler after my first experience with them. I brought in my Type R to have the resonator removed and they took no time at all removing and replacing it. Harley is extremely friendly and the mechanic was too (didn't get his name). You can tell if a place is legit or not pretty easily by just how people talk/act and I could immediately tell this place was going to be no problem whatsoever.

Don't know how anyone could give em any less then 5 stars. Details below! Went in for brakes and rotors, super friendly staff but not in that weird over friendly way, just solid nice humans. Told me how long It would take and I kid you not had it down to the minute it was amazing. Explained everything, showed me everything which I always appreciate. Few weeks later, car starts making a weird noise (something has come loose, can't for the life of me figure it out myself). Give them my super bad vague description, they ponder a couple possibilities and take it for a drive. My horn had fallen off, we all had a good chuckle, they fixed it for 30 mins work, could have charged more for having to take it for a drive for sure. BONUS POINTS: figured out why the car was making another mildly irritating noise that has been going on for as long as I've had the thing (let me know I didn't really have to worry about it unless it gets more annoying) thus answering a question that's been bugging me for about two years, the dealer was not able to identify the source of this noise. 5 stars without a doubt.

Good service, no attempts to up-sell. I brought in my import van the other day. The pipe leading into the muffler had rusted off. As my van is an import, it is easy to try and tell me that the parts have to be ordered in or that it will cost a lot of extra money to fix. Lee and his faithful crew of automotive aristocrats rise to the occaission consistently and with the utmost precision on proffessionalism. I went in for an inspection and with some concerns hoping for a diagnosis. I got more than I bargained for and infact was in what could have been a twenty five hundred pound accident waiting to not just happen but "explode" very unceramoniously. A break line on the verge of rupture. Upon further inspection, a few other moderately costly but fare repairs were in need of immediate attention. I decided to tackle the crucial items on the spot and upon the go ahead the guys " really went ahead. 4 to 5 hrs man labour in around 2-and it was the group of 3 and 4 that jumped on it like gang busters to make it happen. Before I had the time for a short jaunt and make my way back my phone rang and the deed was done. Thank you to Matt- found my break line and kept it to show me- to Lee for being an awesome guy and the rest of the crew for knocking it out the park on a regular basis. I highly recommend and also " note to selves" they don't just do breaks and mufflers!!

Brought a bone stock vehicle to these guys and was treated like a street racer, to the point of failing the vehicle for systems that do not fail here in British Columbia (I am also a licensed inspector just not working professionally in the industry due to zero standards across shops, techs, and auditors). They decided to fail the vehicle for miniscule reasons like tire pressure monitoring lamp on. Geez, I got a flat tire repaired there too, maybe related? But to illustrate the inept technician, they did not find the failed control arm I had left unrepaired, for them to find so I would not have failures made up due to inexperienced and insecure technicians. Don't bring your vehicle to this place for anything beyond oilchanges or a quick muffler swap. Backwater and hillbilly is the order of the day here

Took my plow truck in for some front brake work they fixed it temporarily we dropped it off around 230 pm ish and picked it up at close. They billed me for 8 hrs labour almost for one tech when it was 3 hrs max. To boot the truck got parked for a year first time out had problems they installed the wrong parts as well. At minimum they covered the repair under warranty with some additional charges.

This was my third(and last) oil change with at this establishment! When I got home oil was leaking out of drain plug and oil filter. after tightening those I went for a ride and oil was now leaking from filler plug on transfer case, I got under again and the filler plug was about half a turn from falling off! I now have 4 stains on my driveway and their solution is to send me some advice on how I might clean it! Very shoddy service!

I was amazed at how fast they diagnosed and repaired my electrical issue on my 2017 f350. I was very leery as to who to take my truck to. I called a few shops and talked with them and explained what was going on. ( I do have some electrical experience so I knew it would most likely be a broken wire. The worst thing to figure out.) I had places telling me that it would be a computer or that my dash would need to come out. I didn’t agree with them. I talked to Carlos and he agreed that it sounded like a broken wire and then told me about all the different tools he has for diagnosing electrical issues and all his electrical background. Made me feel super comfortable leaving my truck with him. I had to go out of town for work for a couple days and they were able to fit me in and have my truck fixed by the time I got back. These guys went above and beyond to fix a problem with a fuel pump that they had installed for the PREVIOUS owner of my car. The pump was under warrantee still so they were able to get a replacement for me and install it (and then retighten it a couple weeks later) even though they had no obligation to do so. Given that I was not the owner at the time of the first repair I was more than impressed that they took care of all this at no cost to me. This was a couple years ago now and there have been no problems since then. When I do need something repaired again I will definitely be going back to the downtown Budget Brake and Muffler!

Several weeks ago, I took my car which had an exhaust leak to a muffler and brake shop here in Victoria. They found a leak in the exhaust pipe but replaced it with a larger size, 2 1/4 inch pipe as they claimed Walker no longer made the 2 inch pipe for my vehicle. They said it wouldn’t be a problem, but it was. Resulted in annoying exhaust noise and drone. Was driving me nuts! Even after they installed 2 different mufflers there was no improvement. I then took the car to my garage for their opinion. Sounded ok to them. But wasn’t ok as I had to listen to it! By chance,I went to Budget Brake and Muffler on Douglas Street. Ryan checked it out. Found 2 exhaust system leaks which disappointingly weren’t detected by my garage. He located and installed a 2 inch exhaust pipe and now the car runs quiet like it’s supposed to. I got a quote to have the exhaust on my truck replaced, really simple from the headers back and out the side. Was told it would be 700 max. 3 months later I decided to get it done, now they told me 1000. I told the guy I wanted it quieter than it currently is. Paid the bill and picked it up after work. It's much louder! I called the next day to find out why and he said I told him I wanted it louder. I asked him what we can do about making this right and he told me for the price of 2 new mufflers and labour he would be happy to change them. I also measured the pipe they used and was overcharged. The guy wasn't professional at all and didn't seem to care about customer satisfaction what so ever. I will definitely not be going back and will be informing everyone I know to stay away!

This was hands down the best experience I've had with a mechanic. They replaced my brakes, rotors, and tie rod, and pricing was about half of what I'd been quoted in the kootenays. They did a rad job, tracked down parts that were likely super hard to track down (I drive a 1991 Ford Tempo) and even did some extra adjustments. Plus, the are charming af. AMAZING PEOPLE AMAZING MECHANICS!!! Ryan and Holly were amazing to deal with. 100% props to this area. Went in for a AC failure (leak) on my van, they did a leak check and pressure check with refule of ac + a leak fix for small leaks for 150$. Very fair rates. Then it turned out to not fix the issue so I brought it back and no only did they comp my 150$ that I spent towards fixing the issue, but they provided me with a 4-5 hour diagnositc for free as they couldn't find the AC issue, so they took it to an AC specalist through them, to save me money because they get a better rate, and rear AC condensor + labour = 590$ out the door. From a different shop in Victoria, I was given a list of "urgent" work that needed to be done on my car immediately for safety reasons to the tune of $6500. I wanted a 2nd opinion and searched google for reviews. Budget Brake & Muffler rated highly, and I decided to give them a try. I am SOOOOO glad I did. As a person who knows nothing about cars, and having a more-expensive type of car (that was purchased used at a very low cost!), I am often a target for mechanics who see dollar signs when they see me walk in the door. Budget Brake & Muffler took the time to really listen to my concerns and situation, and then presented me with options on ways to proceed. The total cost ... $138.71. WAY less than was suggested at the other place. BB&M was quick, efficient, listened, took the time to explain things to me, and truly was budget-friendly. While I was waiting, I heard them working with other customers as well. I've never been so impressed - not only with an auto shop, but in general. The customer service was absolutely outstanding. I recently moved to Kelowna from NB and needed to get an interprovincial inspection done, these people tried to ding me 2 grand for 1000 dollars worth of work, I will never go back or recommend this horrible little shop to anyone, nitpicking seems to be their specialty, telling me my oil was extra black when I had just done an oil change 2 months and less than 5000 Kms ago. When I saw the quote I immediately took my car to a better shop, I lost 150$ for the inspection and left feeling very unsatisfied. I will never go back to this place and will definitely provide recommendations to other garages when asked about my experience here. I would have been better off throwing 150$ in the garbage than wasting my time at this garage. I also found the guy at the counter rude to deal with... Save yourself the trouble and go somewhere else.

Had a 4 wheel brake job done. They squeal horribly. I was then told by the counter man that I had a massive engine oil leak. They would need to shampoo the engine ($50) to find the cause, probably the power steering pump ($371). However, after having the car inspected at a certified vehicle inspection center, they could find no sign of an oil leak. The car has never put a drop of oil on the driveway! Draw your own conclusion, and be warned. 2.: weeks later: I was doubtfull when the counterman said to wait 2 weeks for the brakes to seat. I was WRONG! They now work great, just as the shop predicted,

I had a muffler replaced last year. They took a tire off and never tightened the lugs. 2 days later the tire worked it's way loose and nearly came off. 10 months later the muffler was completely destroyed inside. The baffles had completely broken off inside. $349 repair job that didn't last a year. I just got a new muffler elsewhere from an independent shop for cheaper with a guarantee that if falls apart they'll replace it. I had called and asked about the cost to replace a catalytic converter. They were just as expensive as everywhere else. The only budget part of Budget brake and muffler is the parts they use and the workmanship. Will never go back.

My daughter's Kia Rondo died on the highway with both of my girls in the car. Due to negligence from the local dealership, the catalytic converter had died rendering the car useless. The dealership wanted her to pay $2700 to replace it. Even the dealership suggested Ryan's shop to find a more economical solution. He was very kind on the phone. We had to tow the car from the dealership to Budget Brake and Muffler. On a busy Saturday, and within an hour of the car arriving at the shop, Ryan called and said he could fix the problem. It was done the following Monday at the exact price quoted (less than a third of what the dealership wanted). I knew I had a problem with my muffler so I went to budget break and muffler because I expected by the name even though it had bad reviews that they would be the best place. I went in and there were friendly and nice... They checked it out and told me that I would need a brand new resonator pipe, a new muffler and all the bolts and brackets to hold it on and quoted me over $700... I told him that it was more than I expected and I would have to think about it. I went over to Auto Place and told them the problem they took a look at it and told me that in no way would I need to replace and it was only a small weld job! They quoted me around $100 and it turned out to be $80. Would not recommend Budget Brake and Muffler as they seem to lie to get you to spend more... They ended up lying themselves out of a customer...

Brought my vehicle in because there was a grinding noise coming from the rear right wheel, which I worried was a seized caliper. By the time I arrived the grinding noise had stop but they did an inspection anyway and confirmed that there was no issue and that I must have just picked up a rock that eventually worked itself out. No charge for the inspection and I was in and out of there in 15mins. Honest service which I really appreciate, these guys understand the value of a long-term customer.
