The other day, the starter in my car stopped working and I was really stressed that I wouldn't be able to get it into a mechanic for about 3-4 weeks given that it is tire season. Regardless, I called Peter MacNeil's Automotive and was able to get it towed over. They told me it would take about a week or two just to have it looked at because they were very busy. The next day I got an unexpected call from the shop and said they were not only able to have it looked at but to have it fixed within two days! Sure enough, two days later I went in and with a warm welcome they were able to tell me what was wrong with my starter and what had caused the issue to begin with. I am very grateful that there is such a professional and trustworthy shop like Peter MacNeil's Automotive in our community! Highly recommended!!

TLDR; We highly recommend this place to everyone who needs their car serviced. My father owns his own auto shop and has been doing it to 50 years. So when I moved away from home finding an automotive shop that you can trust proved extremely difficult because we kept having issues with different shops. All of our friends highly recommended Peter's so we figured we would give them a try for replacing our lower ball joints and we were very happy with our experience. They have very competitive pricing and so a high quality job. It feels really good to have finally found a quality automotive shop that isn't my father's. Now we come here for everything because of the service and quality.

Peter MacNeil Automotive is not a place to receive top quality parts or service but a place to receive discount parts and discount service at the same price you'd pay at your manufacturers dealership. Peter MacNeil is a part of the TechNet group of service providers that swear loyalty to the Advance Auto Parts and Carquest line of discount auto parts. They pay a monthly fee for big discounts on parts, employee benefits and warrantees for work done to vehicles. This means that they will ONLY install Carquest parts on your vehicle in order to protect their business, which also means that Peter MacNeil is NOT an independent shop. They will not install customer supplied parts regardless of liability waivers and make claims that it's for your safety, when in fact it's for their safety. I recently wanted to find an alternate shop to install parts and came to them with a full brake job; pads and rotors all around. They quoted me $970+tax and my dealership quoted me the same price for OEM parts and higher labour fees. Peter MacNeil charges $80/hr and wheel work like is charged out at .75hrs per wheel which equals 3hrs of labour. So $970 - labour is $730 for parts. I'd contacted Carquest previously to source parts and since they no longer provide other 3rd party parts and only sell their own brand, I priced the parts myself (without any discount) and they were only $601.06+tax for the exact same parts I was quoted by Peter's. They are marking up their discount, plus padding the costs by 20% for parts that rarely, if ever, meet OEM standards. For people like me who do a lot of their own work and want to find an independent shop to form a relationship with, Peter MacNeil is a slap in the face. For him to take on the identity of an independent shop owner but is directly tied to a discount auto parts brand, who won't install higher quality parts supplied by customers and charges the same overall that your dealer would charge without the knowledge and experience that comes with dealer technicians is actually pretty ridiculous and exposes that Peter cares more about making money off slanging parts for Carquest than providing a quality and cheaper alternative. On their website, they clearly make the claim that their level of quality comes at a price. “The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten” You wouldn't expect a plumber to refuse to install the toilet you purchased for your new house or an electrician to not install the panel you bought to upgrade your house, would you? If an installer can't diagnose a faulty part or a business can'tlimit their liability, can you really trust them with either? I should also note that I found a 3rd party parts kit for $453, which in some ways exceed OEM quality, and my dealership is more than happy to install them because we have a great relationship and they know I understand the risks and benefits. Business is about relationships and Peter seems to care more about his relationship with Carquest and than his customers.
