I went there for wheel alignment only because my school (mechanic) does not have alignment equipment. However, they sold additional job to change wheel bearing. I double checked with my teacher (CPA class 1 mechanic) and the part is in decent condition. In the end they charged me $30+tax of "fraud" inspection fee.

I've been coming to Merson Auto for 7 years now simply because their high standards, customer service, and quality of work help create an atmosphere that greatly reduces the anxieties and feelings of vulnerability many car owners encounter. The customer service has been positively consistent over the years with employees that always greet me in a friendly manner. They are knowledgeable, eager, and willing to answer any questions. Conveniently, they have a lobby where you can stay and lounge while waiting for your car. Additionally, there are multiple magazines, and wifi to help pass the time. Merson has always prioritized safety. Chad, who is the mechanic who has communicated with me over the years is always very helpful and describes what's happening in a simple to understand way. Simply put, if it doesn't pose any threat to the safety of their customer or if it isn't a vital component of the car that needs to be repaired in order to get from point A to point B, Chad will explain what the problem is, if it will need to be repaired anytime in the near future, and he'll usually have an estimate on what it would cost to do the optional repair. This example of honesty has been a rare find. I've been to garages in the past where I was told I needed a certain repair done on my car only to find out years later through Merson Auto that they were not necessary. My first experience, I brought my car in for what I imagined would be a simple oil change. I was sitting in the lobby and about five minutes in, Chad walked in to have me come take a look at my car in the garage. I was informed that I had a major problem concerning the strut towers. There was excessive amounts of rust and holes in both strut towers. They had been purposely covered with excessive amounts of rust proofing with the intention of covering up the damage as much as possible. Chad, explained to me that my car which I had recently purchased at a used car dealer several months earlier was essentially scrap (never had I been so embarrassed. At the time, my inexperience with cars and impatience of wanting my very own car so bad led me to make an impulsive purchase). That was not something I wanted to hear and I could see that the other mechanic's along with Chad sympathized with my situation and gave me the best advice they could. He explained to me that my car was scrap unless I could find a body shop that would be willing to weld the strut towers right away. He explained that this was a major safety concern and was even reluctant to let me drive the car out of there because he feared for my well being. Thankfully, he was able to refer me to a body shop just down the street and I was able to salvage the car. What was even more bothersome however, is that a few months prior, I had been to another garage for an oil change and new tires. Unlike Merson, however, they didn't bother to notify me about the rusty strut towers. Understandably, experiences like this caused me to have a great amount of distrust and resentment for those who offer services in this line of work. However, Merson's integrity and honesty has helped me build a lot of trust with them since those past experiences. My most recent experience came this week. I dropped my car off and within two hours Chad called me with a quick estimate. I was caught off guard by how extensive the problems were and went over my situation with Chad who helped me come to a decision. In the end, it was a costly repair that could've been worse but the team of mechanics working on my car managed to save some parts. When I returned to collect my car, I saw Chad in the garage. Although he was busy, he happily gave me five minutes of his time to answer my questions. After our talk, I left feeling confident that I had made the right choice and I am very satisfied with the work that was done. Hopefully, I have been able to provide a better understanding of how Merson operates. I definitely recommend Merson. They offer a very unique and positive experience.

From my experience I can tell you that they are extremely proactive and diligent about finding and letting you know about upcoming issues with your vehicle. But what I appreciate the most is how honest they are about what’s urgent and important, and what can wait, so you can prioritize the work on your car. Side note: I’ve been there 3 times since COVID started. From what I can see they are taking all the appropriate measures to keep their staff and customers safe.

Great place, great service, great expertise. Been taking my cars there for 15 years. Tried a few other places, keep going back to Merson for their reliability. These guys are specialists, they do tires, wheels, alignment all day long, every day, so they do it way better than a general mechanic.

I agree that this place does over charge and the staff in the front are not the friendliest but the guys in the back are pretty nice and helpful. I only had two tires mounted on my rims and balanced with one tire to plug and it cost me over $80. Thankfully I take care of most of my own mechanical work because I would hate to see how much these guys would charge for a basic break or suspension job. Most people are better off buying tools and learning about their own car(s). Japanese cars are mechanically friendly so that is all I will ever own until I buy my new Porsche 911 GT2 :)

This was a very positive experience. My car was test-driven by the mechanic while I was in the car which gave an opportunity to ask questions. The mechanic gave his expert opinion which turned out to be correct...a bad front-right wheel bearing. I usually fear not using the dealer for my high-performance car, but have dealt with Merson in the past and decided to give it a try. There was an estimate prepared, which I held onto in case the repair exceeded the estimate. The car was left there and the work was done on-time (as promised) the next day, and exactly for the amount on the estimate. My sense is that I also saved money over using the dealer...my gut says about $500-$700.This really counts for me, and I feel the service was the same or better than the dealer. I really like Merson. I have bought all my tires there in the past, and now will trust them for future mechanical work. They have earned my business. ... Andy

December 29, 2014 Our Nissan Altima quit as we went under the overpass on Girouard heading up to St. Jacques. I chugged around through a green arrow and came to a very dead stop in the entrance to Merson. My husband and I are over 70 and live on a farm one hour from Montreal. We had been having breakfast with our daughter. For some reason I thought Merson was a motorcycle mechanic. While my husband considered phoning CAA I entered the shop. I am consistently impressed with the service at Merson. As someone who does not know what's going on "under the hood", I find they have been informative and honest, and the quotes are always fair or under what the dealership has quoted. I hadn't always known it was a family business (the original Mr. and Mrs. Merson have now retired and their daughter and her husband run it). However this becomes clear when you notice that everyone you deal with -- from the owners to the mechanics -- is courteous and friendly. It's obvious customer service is a value that runs in the family... and entire company.

I've been going to Merson for the at least 15 years, I've gone through 4 cars but I always go back, WHY, because I trust them, recently I had a braking issue with my Subaru Outback and the floor manager (Charly) took me in on short notice, took a look at front disk brakes that had locked, they cleaned it, but released there was more to it possibly ABS/Bouster and suggested I go to a Subaru dealer because it required special eqjuipment they didn't have. They spent about 2 hours of work and Charly didn't charge (about $125) because they couldn't fix it, now that's being honest and that's why I trust them and keep going back Josef M.

Had my 4 summer tires balanced and installed for my truck there for about 100$. Got on the highway and started skipping really badly, the truck was almost losing control over 80 km/h, clearly the job wasn't done properly. Called them back and was told it could be a whole bunch of things, not necessarily that they weren't balance properly, but they would do me a favor and check it, but only in one week because there were 65 clients ahead of me and my safety apparently wasn't a priority. So I went to Pneus Ouellette in Longueil next door to where I was at the time I called and they charged me 60$ tax included to re-balance the tires properly this time and guess what problem solved. Looks like the problem was the mechanics and the customer service at Merson Automotive. First and last time at this place, if they cant even balance tires properly, with no accountability for their own work, imagine how they are gonna do fixing your brakes.

Many people recommended me to go to there instead of my car dealership to fix some parts in my car. I now understand why - the service was outstanding, they explained to me everything that was going on, showed me what they were doing and fixed everything for 1/3 of the price! For the past three days, the orange TPMS had been coming on after driving about 10 minutes. So not a low tire, but a problem with the system, either transmitter or receiver, most probably. I was thinking of trying the trick of dropping the pressure in each tire one by one to 20 PSI to pinpoint which corner was defective, but I just took it in to Merson where I got my new Michelin LTX M/S2s installed in the spring, including new TPMS sensors, because a) they have a scanner and b) I figure it was still under warranty. Scanner got no reading from the front right wheel, so they pulled it and found the clip had broken and the sensor was just free-rolling around inside the tire. These things happen, I was told. They did step up and replaced it without additional charge. Hats off to Merson Automotive for standing behind their work and making good. I now recommend them to family and friends.

Went in to swap out my summer wheels and tires for winter set up. Noted some of my summer wheels were damaged. Brought it up to the garage manager and he stated it was from curb rash. I told him it was not from curb rash and showed him photos of my wheels prior to the appointment which I do as precaution. He refused to take responsibility and walked away. I also went to an independent wheel repair shop for a quote. The owner confirmed that the damages shown are not from curb rash but rather from someone dropping the wheel on the frontside of it. UPDATE: I added a photo of a public Facebook conversation I had which the owners have deleted. This is an example of how professional they treat their customers

Worst garage I’ve ever been to. They couldn’t find the problem with slow leaking tires. Only thing is that I’ve never had any issues with the tires until they changed all 4 TPMS Sensors. Since then 2 tires have slow leaks out of 4. I went back several times all for them to tell sorry there’s nothing wrong. But I’m having to pump air in the tires every second day? This isn't normal. I bought a $150 digital compressor to make sure the dashboard is reading the same PSI from the actual tires and everything was good there. Conclusion, there’s a slow leaks with 2 tires. I went back again a 3rd time and still they told me we can’t find the problem. Then they asked me what would like for us to do more? Like all of a sudden had years of experience fixing cars. I told them to buff the rims and seal the tires which they insisted they had already done. So they did it. Funny enough I’ve had no issues since. I had to troubleshoot and suggest to them how to fix the tires while they call themselves experts. And while they couldn’t admit where they might have done something wrong. They kept telling me, sir you could have hit a pot hole. I live 10min away and am very cautious driving a luxury car. This was a complete waste of time and money. I’ve never felt this insulted. And so for $90 to do a job you should’ve done the first time around Merson, this review is going public. What Merson can improve on is their honesty, integrity, service level and giving a customer the benefit of the doubt. Just saying.

These guys tried to convince me that my brakes needed to be replaced, even called me to follow up a week later. I brought my car to a trusted mechanic who told me I had a good 70% left on my brakes. I'm very unimpressed to say the least. Good price on tires to be fair. Still won't be going back.

'Been meaning to leave this review for some time, now. A few years back they cracked my windshield during a routine repair and REFUSED to take responsibility for it. Head mechanic came up with every theory and excuse possible, and even pried up the trim around the windshield to look for the phantom rust that "may have caused it". None to be found. The flunky mechanic who took my car for a test drive WHILE I WAS SITTING IN THE PASSENGER SEAT BESIDE HIM studying every detail about how he handled my car absolutely lied out of his mouth, and while smiling at me claimed that he saw the crack before I came in, as though I wouldn't have noticed a 9 inch slash in my windshield RIGHT IN FRONT OF MY EYES on the driver's side. The three of us went to Mark himself, who was completely indifferent to the matter and barely said a word, nor looked at me. Mark absolutely refused any responsibility. In the end I had to bargain with them that I'd accept a free oil change while my insurance took care of replacing the windshield (after verifying that my premium wouldn't increase). I've never been back since, nor will I. I always go to my dealer, now. Might cost a bit more, but the courteous service I receive from them is worth every penny. Yep, Merson is great until something goes wrong. Then they become the shady, small town, country bumpkin mechanic that has you over a barrel when you're in trouble. So long, and good riddance to you.

In 2015 our Honda Pilot decided to break down across the street from Merson. Merson looked after us quickly and installed a reconditioned alternator. At the end of 2016 the alternator broke down again. I called Merson to let them know not expecting anything as it had been some time. Chad said he was going to call the company who supplied the alternator as he felt it should have lasted longer and Celso agreed. To our pleasant surprise they called back to tell us that we will get reimbursed completely for the part on behalf of the company. We were very happy with the level of service especially since it's not typical of garages. Thank you Merson for respecting our time and money. You provided a positive experience and when we move back to the city will use your garage for our regular servicing.

I have mixed feelings about them. As a first time car owner I heard the radio ads and chose to try them out. Every time I came in extra work had to be done on the car. After a while facing this you being to wonder how many of these repairs really have to be done. I wouldn't mind the expense, but the fact you can't see them work on the car is a red flag, unlike other shops. At one point I had my car's horn replaced, and they tried to hit me up for extras and I turned them down. No extra work done, so far so good. On the way home I noticed my exterior lights weren't working. Had to double back so they could reconnect them. They did it for free, but you'd think they'd double check stuff like this before releasing the car to the customer.

Recently went for a routine oil change and check up. During that visit I was informed that my 10 year old Acura MDX and the oil pan plug had reached its lifespan limit and would no longer hold and not leak. While I learned afterward that this is a normal possibility after so many years of oil changes, I had no idea just how expensive the repair could be with most dealers and garages as they normally would propose to replace the oil pan with an expensive labor charge as it is complicated. But not at Merson! Charly to the rescue with his talented team of mechanics who make up the real magic and difference here! Charly (that is the correct spelling) came out to see me and proposed a retapping of the oil pan plug hole and a replacement plug kit , a solution they researched and did successfully with other clients. This turned out to be a wonderful solution at a minimal cost, which Charly always rises to the challenge to save clients money. So this is why I continue to go there for more than 30 years, and you should too as their honesty and credibility for managing your vehicle maintenance as well as the costs is tops! Just ask to meet Charly!

Don't be fooled by Terry DiMonte's ads on CHOM. He gets paid well for them and I wouldn't be surprised if he gets free labour at this shop. After all, he is a Montreal celebrity. Non-regulars and normal people like you and me won't get a high level of service here. I gave this place 2 chances since it's close to home, but extremely disappointed and was met with really bad, borderline rude and arrogant service. I went in for an alignment . They made a big deal when I asked for the before and after alignment printout so I could see how far out of spec my car was. At first they flat out refused and made it seem like it was an unusual request. After the alignment was done, I saw from the printout that the new alignment was much worse than before. It was even more out of spec with all the settings being in the red (green is within spec). I mentioned this while paying the bill and the clerk tried to make me believe that's what the alignment is supposed to be. He tried to make me feel like an idiot in front of all the other clients there. Not everyone who isn't a mechanic is clueless when it comes to cars. He called the manager over who basically repeated the same thing even more arrogantly and walked away. I understand they must get frustrated at some difficult clients they get, but I am one of the most reasonable people to deal with. Driving back home, my car, which was driving perfectly straight before the alignment, was now pulling to one side significantly. Brought it to another alignment shop and it was fixed with no additional parts required and no problems encountered. Despite this experience, I brought my wife's car to fix a small oil leak. Three visits, $2500 later and many new parts, car still leaks oil and they can't figure out why. Brought it to another shop, oil leak fixed in 1 hour and only one part needed that cost $35. I've always heard good things about them, but all the good reviews are from people who have been coming here for 10+ plus years regularly and probably don't realize when they're getting ripped off. Lesson learned, will avoid this shop in the future and not recommend them to anyone.

Priced out inexpensive tires at Canadian Tire but could only get an appointment in November. Took my chances and drove directly to Merson's (after always passing it by and hearing ads on CHOM). A very nice gentleman took my info and I told him what I was looking for and then he lowered the price of his tires to match Cdn Tire's (when I mentioned what they were charging) - plus I got a mail-in rebate! They also put the tires on the same day and it only took an hour. You can cross the street and shop at Loblaw's or they have comfy seats on which to wait. I was impressed with the service and prices and would highly recommend this place.

I used to have my tires changed and stored here after having rave reviews by a friend. During my time as a customer there I had two extremely bad experiences. Typically as I was there they would alwasy try and sell me on some additional maintenance that my car needed, was told my brakes would have to be fixed as they were completely worn out, took it back in to my dealer and they informed me that I had at least another year of life on the pads. Routinely I would hear the sales staff selling maintenance jobs to customers in the waiting room. On one occasion every single person in the waiting room needed a new hub, suddenly everyone's bearings had started to seize up. I just couldn't believe the gall of this shop. However, the worst experience was when I went in one spring to have winter tires taken off and summer ones put on. They brought out one of my tires that had a 9inch screw in it and told me that this was how it was taken off car in the fall. Oddly, no one at that time mentioned anything to me about a gigantic screw sticking out of my tire, nor had I noticed that driving into the shop. When I confronted them I was assured this was how my tire was brought in and I would obviously have to two new tires so they would be the same on each axle. I challenged them on this and demanded they replace at their cost it as this was obviously a scam. They refused and when I escalated the situation the management was very rude. I ended up having to buy one tire and drive away, with all my tires in the trunk. That was the last time I dealt with this company. Avoid them at all times, do not accept anything they tell you about maintenance issues on your car.

I'm very skeptical when it comes to fixing anything on the car (and I'm sure I'm not the only one in this situation) because usually, when going to service the car, I feel like a sheep going into the wolves den... Well, this feeling doesn't apply to Merson, where I wend last September and got the feeling I might have found a trustworthy garage. Hence, I called them Friday evening because of problems with my brakes and they invited me to come Saturday morning (roughly 12 hours later) at 7:30AM! I was 110% sure it will cost me a fortune because most probably I will require all 4 wheels to be fixed, as it happened a couple years ago at the Nissan dealership when my truck was still under warranty (actually brakes are not covered under any warranty because they are considered consumables). Believe it or not: they (at Merson) told me that front brakes are still good for a while (50% life) and only the rear disks and pads need to be replaced + the exact cost I will incur... Rhetorical question: who else at a garage does that??? Long-story-short: I'm Merson's customer from now on, and that for both cars in my household!!! PS: I would give them more stars but unfortunately 5 is the limit...

Glad everyone had such a great experience. I had a horrible experience. Not in my tires being changed, but in how an accident on their grounds was handled. While I was waiting for my tires to be changed a staff drove into my parked car and broke my rear bumper of my brand new Hyundai Santa Fe. The manager said they would repair or replace the bumper. He rented a car for me next door and the next day I was called to say my car was ready. I came to pick it up. It looked fine. Three weeks ago I noticed black duct tape hanging from my bumper. I pulled it off and saw the same cracked bumper from the accident. Merson or the body shop they sent my car to had put on three pieces of black overlapping duct tape on the damage. I never noticed till the underside of the tape got loose from dirt. I went back to see the manager and he was insulted that I blamed him for not repairing the damage as he said he would. Unbelievable. I have filed a claim with the consumer protection office. Let’s see if they replace the bumper that they damaged. Bronia Things got resolved to my satisfaction after they received a letter of complaint from the consumers protection office. Merson agreed to take responsibility for the accident and will pay my insurance company. I made a claim and the bumper is ordered. All good.

AVOID, AVOID, AVOID!!! We recently moved to NDG and wanted to find a garage close by for regular maintenance. Merson came to mind thanks to all those radio mentions! We brought the car in for an oïl change and to check the breaks as they seemed to be activing up. We ended up doing a $1,400 break job for which they had to redo after noticing the breaks were squelling! Following this, we noticed a new problem appear (the car is 4 years old) which has yet to be resolved! Fast forward a few weeks, we get a flat tire. Hubby goes to change the tire to put on the spare and realizes the garage did not return the allen keys. We call Merson to inform them of the issue and after freaking out on them for not returning the Allen keys, yesterday they drove over (we live 5 mins away) without the Allen keys but did help remove the over tightened nut so we could install the spare They offered to take and fix the tire for free. In addition they offered to check the bad break job for a SECOND time for free. Upon confirming the appointment the next day, the story changed. They were charging us for fixing the tire on top of charging us for checking the back breaks! And the mechanic who promised all of this admitted to changing his mind! In my books this is BAD BAD BAD business practice! I just wish I had read the reviews and spoken to others before bringing them the car! Seems like they are good for deals on tires and the basic stuff but beyond that they are pretty deficient. I am a big believer in business KARMA!!!
