ONE OF THE BEST MEDITTEREANEAN, middle EASTTT BAKERIES. IVE BEEN TO LIKE EVER.. HAVIN LIVED JN Chicago & TORONTO UNCOMPARABLE.. NEBER FOUND NE THING CLOSE TO THIS.. IT WAS ALWAYS MINE N MA FAMILIES FAVORITE GO TO middle EASTERN BAKERY SPOT SINCE I WAS A KIDDD... HIGHLY RECOMMEND FOR ALL LOCALS N TOURISTS N NICE SELECTION IF SWEETS N FRENCH PASTRIESSS!!
I have been to this place several times with family, it has a wide selection of middle eastern pastries and desserts ???? as well as of baked goods, icecreams, cakes ????,smoothies, coffee and many more. It offers the highest quality of middle eastern pastries for any occasion. French desserts are available too. This place for everyone who has a sweet tooth, kids like it too. Every time I visit this place I overwhelmed with choices , it is tempting to try everything they have in the store! make sure to take a number to secure a spot in the line. Frankly saying, this place has a wide variety of choices. It is spacious, always clean, and has beautiful decoration around. Very neat and organized. All in all, this place is amazing! The food is amazing too! I recommend everyone to try it out!
Great deserts, pastries, and baklava. its quite nice to sit in their and eat what you bought at a table, so why the bad review? you practically need to beg the employees to serve you, instead they serve their friends and family before anyone else while you wait despite waiting much longer, they do not go according to the number system, despite using them.
Review for online order I really appreciated how all of little treats were not too sweet and still crispy after 3-4days of ground shipping. Reason for taking 2 stars off is a strange aftertaste that I couldn’t stand. Only mini roses and baklawa didn’t have the aftertaste. (Mini roses were the best from the mix.) It was a real bummer because I usually love fingers at most :(
There is nothing bad about this place at all, other than the fact that they need to build more bakery stores around here!! And there are too many good desserts to choose from. I make the trip all the way from wyandotte. The prices are dirt cheap and I feel like I'm in heaven anytime I go there. Yes, it is crowded but I can understand why. This place is amazing. Please bring this to more locations in Michigan!
My (Jordanian) family and I have been ordering from Shatila for over 25 years and have LOVED these as if we were overseas. However with a recent order, we're really disappointed. Perhaps they're too popular and they're trying to be faster? We feel the quality and flavor aren't there anymore. The desserts used to be full of flavor and nuts, and now just tastes like crisco and sugar. So sad - wish they would leave well enough alone.
Best arabic ice cream I've ever had ???? ????
Delicious pastries and huge variety of items! I've tried most things at one time or another. My favorite is the chocolate pyramid. Their kunafa is good but not as good as Masri sweets. Their ice cream is delicious and made in house. Pistachio is the best!
Got a piece of lemon cake it was so delicious, with the fresh slice of lemon on top, I've made it a must have when around Dearborn, Warren Ave. Pat yourselves on the back you at Shatila Bakery have won. I'm referring everyone to you.
One of the best middle eastern bakeries in the United States. Workers are so welcoming and they have verity of options.
Came her a couple times on a recent visit. The place was quite busy both times, but service was quick. The coconut ice cream was tasty. All the pastries look very good, but some members of our group said the flavors were just so-so depending on the items ordered. Definitely worth a visit.
The cream filling had a slight sour taste and my stomach hurt after I ate some. Customer service was not great. The girls behind the counter were more interested in chatting amongst themselves than to their customers. The girl that was boxing up my pastries acted like I was inconveniencing her and wanted to finish helping me as soon as possible so that she could go back to chatting with her friends. She either couldn't hear me or ignored me when I asked her question. Stay away from the French pastries....they look good but must sit on the shelf for a long time. The Baklava was very good though, which is what they're known for.
Tons of delicious Middle East sweets and pastries. Super famous for delicious cakes. Best thing is you can sit and eat there. People visit all d time during d whole day. We can celebrate bddays as well.
I always enjoy coming here. The prices on the pastries make for an inexpensive date with my husband (however, the cost of the ice cream and cakes can add up). We often bring visitors from out of town here, and there is always something for everyone, including some sugar-free and vegan options. The smoothies are delicious. In the mood for ice cream? They have it. Baklava is seriously second to none. There are even delicious savory items on the menu, in case you're not in the mood for something sweet. The pastries are truly jaw-dropping works of art and always result in oohs and aaahs from first-time visitors. With so many beautiful options, it can be overwhelming to make a decision! With that said, I feel the need to address some of the complaints I've read in reviews about customer service and their "take a number" system. I recommend that as soon as you enter, take note of how busy they are. If they are not very busy, don't take a number...look at all the display cases, take your time, decide what you want and then ask one of the employees to help you. If they are very busy, take a number right away and then make your decisions. I have always found the employees to be very helpful in answering questions, but you do have to make sure they clearly understand what you are asking for or about, especially when they are busy, as it can be noisy and they are in a hurry to help everyone. I've found them to really try to get your order right, but you have to make an intentional effort to be sure they understand what you are asking, and watch closely to what they grab for you, as the pastries are very close together in the display cases. Also, listen closely for your number to be yelled or keep a close watch on the monitor during busy times, as they rush through them if no one responds right away. Also, whether your party is small or large, it is much less confusing if you all work with the same employee to assist you in your selections (I mean if there is only one person paying). One other word of caution, if you like chocolate but not mocha, make sure you ASK if there is any mocha flavoring before you make your selection. I am personally not a mocha fan, and some of the beautiful, chocolatey-looking sweets are really mocha, so I always ask first if I'm unsure. The chocolate bool is amazing! The dining area is just as beautiful and impressive as the desserts. Overall, this really is a place you must visit at least once. I think you'll be back.
Not situated in the best of neighborhoods and people park do like imbeciles in the parking lot. The overall ambience and quality inside is good but disorganized staff and long wait times are pretty much the norm from what I could see. The ticketing system is a joke and people cut in all the time. However, it was well kept and clean inside and had plenty of tables. The food and quality seems to be what attracts people to this place but honestly a very poorly managed bakery.
Obvious deterioration! Not authentic sweets anymore! You can easily differentiate the commercial from the authentic taste that represents Lebanon. Unfortunately, Turkish sweets and kunafa proof they are the best!
I always have to stop here when I'm in the area. I've been coming here since I was about her age. I took my daughter for the first time and she loved the mango ice cream. Everything they have is delicious! 5/5 stars
You would feel amazed to be here, if you have a sweet tooth like me. A middle eastern sweet shop to offer thousands of various sweets, cakes and pastries and ice cream. To start with, let me tell the procedure. I arrived in the evening and it was very crowded. So you have to collect a token and wait until your number is called. Then you go with the token and tell the server lady what you want. And then you pay. We got a trouble. Being outsider ( non middle eastern I mean), I did not know the name for everything. So we had trouble to tell them what we want ( not to mention the accent difference etc). It was busy hour and we wanted so many different stuffs. After struggling a while, we managed to plate them all. Next, we heard that they were taking only cash ( because their system broke down or something happened I don’t know)!!! Luckily one of us had the cash to save the mission! We bought a lot of sweets ( check images) and the entire order was worth of 26$ only. Now, I was disheartened with the kanafeh. I have had much better elsewhere. This one was dry and not tasty. But rest of the things - Baklava, pistachio baklava, layered busbusa, Turkish delight, and another one ( dunno the name, appears like white foamy subtle flavoured cloud like, topped with nuts and nuts) were simply extraordinary. With so many varieties of sweets, if you feel to have something savoury, they have meat pie/cheese pie/ spinach pie to offer. We ate the meat pie which was the absolute yum. I forgot to buy some for my home. But this is a must visit if you love to eat desserts and sweets and you are around.
Always love the little cakes and sweets my son is very picky and doesn't care for traditional buttercream frosting so this place is perfect..so many options..they are pretty busy all the time so ease be prepared to wait a couple mins
This place is the biggest, cleanest and most organized middle eastern sweets in the city of Dearborn. We have been there many times no issues. However dining area always not as clean as it should be. if you dine in cheap plastic silverware will be provided. It is unhealthy with hot stuff,, come on they should take it to the next level. DURING our visit today we found few hair on the plastic silverware, and chess pie was not fully cooked. Bad
It’s a dream of a place for Arabic sweets, especially Kunafa and Baklava. Love it and used to order it to be shipped from MI to NY. Worth every penny. The ice cream is great too.
I literally drove about 450 kms to visit this place as I heard good feedback from friends and I’ve read high reviews on google reviews. Personally, I found it exceeds my expectations in terms of the customer service experience they and vey welcoming and professional. The kunafa nabulsy isn’t the best but you should try the other middle eastern treats and ice cream.
For khunafa, I had to wait about 15 minutes while there were tens of people at the counter. It was a Monday late afternoon, and there were handful of customers, yet they took for ever to take my order. In my opinion, this long wait time was not necessary. They can easily provide a better service with number of people working on that store. Khunafa was ok, I didn’t like their khatayaya at all, it was not that fresh.
Loved the Shatila experience. After having their famous sweets over the last many years living in Michigan, we were glad to make the trip. We tried a variety of things including the sugarcane juice. I was so excited to see sugarcane juice that I had to have it. It was quite expensive - $5 for the smallest glass which was a bit much but I had to have it for old times sake. Their bakery is bustling and you know they're really that good when you have to stand for 10-15 min for your turn. I knocked off a star because I didn't know the sweets beyond baklava and there's no names or descriptions of the sweets. Plus they have so many customers to serve that it's practically impossible to ask them what each sweet is. So, my suggestion to Shatila is to add the sweet name and a brief description so that I can decide instead of being rushed when it's my turn. At a minimum, have the name displayed so that I can Google and see if I will like it.
This place does a great business! Love the baklava!! Very well organized. Even with a lot of customers the wait isn't too bad. All Covid practices are in place. My favorite Middle Eastern bakery hands down!!
The most amazing sweets shop in the United States. Mediterranean, Mideastern, French and more, plus ice cream, coffee and tea. Shipping available to your location.
This is a must see when you visit Detroit! They have a huge array of Middle Eastern sweets and pastries. Their treats feature nuts, dates, coconut, and honey. If you're not sure what to get, the staff is friendly and makes excellent recommendations. It's a truly unique experience.
Deliciousness. So much sugar but so good. 1 less star for a not so fresh piece of dessert.
I used the website to order Ramadan special baklava with shipping to Alabama. My sister really loved it.
awesome place. mango juice is the best i had in michigan
I like going here because the atmosphere is fun and unique. However the service is fairly poor. I have often had my number called only to have a teenage girl wave me over only to continue her conversation with her coworker and ignore me for a good 5 minutes before and during my order. I have also received stale pastry and sweets here on occasion. Really hit or miss!
This place is amazing! From ethnic treats like baklava and others I don't know the name of to French pastries! The place is always busy and survived the pandemic lockdowns sure in party to a loyal clientele. Portions are perfect where a variety of treats will leave you satisfied, but the price will amaze. It's not "Cheap" but it is when you consider what you are getting! Value is the perfect way to describe it. The place is literally an oasis for desserts and iced creams! Speaking of which, the pistachio ice cream is the best!
Very tasty sweets love driving down here
I love this place! I was looking through the menu and the reviews, but didn't see any dairy free ice cream-like options, so I went there and found that they DO have smoothies and juice!
Customer service is below average. I have been a customer here for a long time and spent a lot of $$, too. Lately I ordered Burma and was disappointed by receiving the wrong order and when they resent my order it was sent regular delivery instead of rushing it to me as a courtesy for screwing up. Furthermore, i had to send a request to make sure that my order is from a fresh batch because i’ve had two shipments that tasted old and tough. NOT HAPPY WITH YOUR CUSTOMER SERVICE AT ALL AND CONTEMPLATING SWITCHING TO SOME OTHER CONVEYOR.
Came here for the first time late at night, where my experience was a mix of positives and negatives. I found the knafe, katayef, and basboosa to be very average, but their baklavas and mafrooke were excellent. It's a huge bakery though with lots of seatings inside.
If you are looking for middle eastern pastries this is the place to go in metro Detroit.
This is a nice place for dessert. The pastries are gorgeous, and reasonably priced. It can get a bit crowded. I would give 5 stars, but during my last visit, the eclairs were stale.
Went here and got some amazing French pastries, Arabic sweets, and these delicious Lebanese meat pies called Sfeeha! They all were 5 star in quality, texture, and taste. If you live in the area or are visiting, this is a must to try! It is family friendly and wheelchair/stroller accessible! Very large and spacious on the inside and decorative with some tables and chairs for dining. They have a huge variety of products including, but not limited to ice cream, Arabic sweets, French pastries, Mini cakes, and a lot more! Do yourself a favor and try this place, trust me, you won't regret it!
They do not have customer service with the customer. I tried to call them today to tell them that the sweets I had bought from them were very poor. When I tried to tell her, she was very offensive in words. It was an experience and it will never be repeated.
The place is beautiful it smells great and appears welcoming however employees (2girls) made snarky looks when asked for something. Also the cake I purchased was extremely dry as though it had been sitting out for a few days and tasted terrible like rotten. Upsetting because I had given it to my 1 & 3 year olds. ????????????
What a wonderful place. I was so impressed with how beautiful everything is displayed and the cleanliness of the store was impeccable. Everything I have ever had taste as great as it looks. Great job to all the workers who make this place special.
Nice people, amazing pastries and ice cream, great service. A little dirty they need more help cleaning. Especially the very busy bathrooms.
Beautiful smells sights and flavours
The icecream and sweets are amazing. They have a lot of icecream choices, from pistachio to cherry. I've also tried some other sweets. They have very sugary stuff to mild. There's something for everyone. It's a good and relaxing place, but often times, it's quite crowded. Avoid going at night if you're looking for a time with less crowd.
We usually stop here whenever we visit Detroit or Dearborn. Its a nice place to visit with family. The place has a nice interior with Palm Trees & lighting. It's usually well kept. The dessert's look beautiful and well made. This place is famous for its Baklava. It looks great and appears to be made out of quality stuff but the taste is not the best It's good but we have had better baklava. The pastries/cakes etc are just average although they all look beautiful. They have a nice Icecream/ juice center. There is outdoor seating section as well and they have decent parking. Overall a good place to stop for some dessert.
I came here with my family and I don't regret it. The icecream and the desserts are amazing high quality and super tasty. :)
Day before the birthday they called and cancelled the cake , they its because of the chef had to travel or something. I had to call 100 different places to find a person who can make a cake. So irresponsible of the store. Also i didnt get a get refund for the cake. I had to call to ask for the refund.
Definitely worth the 5 stars. The service is always good and the restaurant bakery is always clean. This is a handicapped accessible place with handicapped parking available.
Mind boggling variety of sweets, amazing. You get confused as to what you want to order. Difficult to understand what the dish is and staff also not very helpful. Taste is superb. Pastries and cheesecake were also too good. The Turkish coffee pot is also to be tried. Its nice. But the regular coffee and tea were really bad. Ice creams and juices are good too. But one major drawback in this crowded place is the restrooms. Could not enter. This needs proper attention.
The service here is just soooooo slow. 5 people in front of me and half an hour later I finally get my number called. The sweets are good but it should take 30+ mins to grab a cake
We went to this place on July4, me and my friend. We are from Pittsburgh Pa, we go to Dearborn couple times a year to have good food and feel like back home. So we stopped at shatila to order some dessert to take it home, the place is clean, but management is terrible we got number 87 and the screen number was showing number 22. We found out many people don’t take numbers and the employees were serving them first and we had to wait long time to get our order! Employees are very slow and not trained well! We went to the drink and ice cream section to order coffee, the guy who was there was playing with bumps on his face, this is not acceptable in food service because I’m a restaurant manager . Anyway our bad luck he prepared our Turkish coffee and I was shy to ask him to not make it for us , he spit the coffee over the stove and gave us the rest which was coffee crumbs. I feel bad about leaving this review but I swear that’s what we had. I hope the owner read this review and take these issues seriously to solve it
Ordered the mix tray a few times and it tastes amazing !! Each time it's been consistently good and tasted fresh and delicious. I also tried the mamoul madd dates and wow they taste ssooo good and the ratio of dates is perfect because certain other places don't put enough dates and so it will taste dry and flavorless but Shatila puts the perfect amount. I already loved the bucklava mixed tray but now I'm also obsessed with the mamoul!! Give them a try for sure!!
We brought our middle school students here as part of our field trip. Shatila accommodated our students happily and provided the most wonderful desserts for us that the students were still talking about days later. Most businesses fear middle school students. Shatila just rolled with it and treated us with kindness and warmth. It was a lovely experience for our students and I am grateful for their willingness to work with us. I cannot wait to bring my family back here to sample more of their beautiful and delicious treats.
Overall, still the best Mediterranean desserts in Michigan. However, the quality seems to have gone down compared to the last few years. Not as fresh sometimes, so be careful when you're ordering. I actually ask them when they made the tray, or request items from the back (to ensure that it's more "fresh"). Also, many items are not displayed out in front as before, so you need to ask for them by name - it's available in the back. Check out the website for names and pictures of what they offer, the workers are not as helpful once you're in the store. My favorites are the pistachio mamouls which come individually wrapped. Also, I pay extra and always make my own baklava tray, as I do not like cashews and a few of the other "unpopular" pieces they have started adding to the ready made baklava trays. Worth the price difference in my opinion. Enjoy!
Good place for middle eastern sweets. Place was extremely busy so we couldn't sit. Make sure to try their pomegranate juice, we really enjoyed it.
I went into Shatila with recommendations from a friend and was not very familiar with the types of desserts there. Staff was very patient with me as I fumbled through my order and asked silly questions. Everything I purchased was delicious!
Heard about this place from friends. They all said it was amazing and that I needed to go. I had no idea they were this right. Shatila is no small bakery. Its a pretty big dessert shop that is visited frequently by locals. From Mid-Eastern desserts, to french pastries, to ice cream and cakes; this shop a little of everything for anyone's sweet tooth. The prices are also very affordable. You can get piece of cake for between $1 to $2.50. The selection is simply amazing. Do your sweet tooth a favor and visit this local treasure. I know I'll be going here more often.
Got a large platter of baklava to take home with us. Had one piece each and it was exceptionally good. What stops me from giving five stars was the crazy 20 plus minute wait in a very unorganized screaming match of numbers being called I was 26 numbers deep it was so crowded when we got there. This is typical business for a Saturday then they need to add more people behind the counter.
If I could hit zero stars I would. I am so embarrassed and mortified that I even had to take this cake to my 23rd birthday party. I have brought so many different items from here and sent so many people to this place of business and for me to have received my cake this way my feelings are truly hurt and I will NEVER again recommend this place to ANYONE. I’m upset that I paid in FULL up front $95 for the quality of this cake to be so poor. The numbers were all smashed and showed the fingerprints of whomever made them at the bakery. Also you could see the cardboard cut out of the numbers and that is just out right embarrassing. You all need to do better as a business that is truly unacceptable and I deserve a FULL refund.
It was for Christmas I got 2 boxes of baklava and i did the assorted the finger was ok but I got the one with walnut and it was not cooked very good and it tasted like butter. I love shatila’s but this time I was very disappointed that the baklava didn’t taste good and I didn’t take it out to my guest. And now it’s going the garbage but I love cookies.
My first time visiting Shatila Bakery after hearing so much about it from everyone I know that lives in the area. I have to say, I was throughly impressed. Everything was fresh and absolutely delicious. I cannot wait until we visit Dearborn again just to make a special stop back.
They have beautiful cakes and sweets. I would recommend them their cakes are around $30 which is a decent price. I gave them 3 stars because the lady bumped the whole top of my daughter's birthday cake on the upper shelf which disfigured it but in all the cake was good just wasn't worth taking pictures of it because of the disfiguration.
My visit was absolutely ridiculous. I had to wait an hour on a Monday afternoon. They are supposed to go by numbers but then they let people thru for whatever reason and those who don't speak up end up waiting forever.
Whenever we go to Detroit we make it a point we go to this bakery. Being born and raised in the gulf this is a to go place to have the dessert especially baklava. They even have sugar free version for the elderly lol. Love this place. Definitely recommend this place to anyone
Shatila Bakery is #1 in sweet and ice cream. You should try all first then COME to Shatila to realize the difference! How much I eat? I feel nothing wrong with my stomach. It is all healthy and most delicious!
Great spot with a cool cafe in the middle. Dozens of delicious desserts and different types of baklava. Many types of ice cream with unique Arabic flavors as well.
This is really a pretty amazing place. They have an excellent selection of pastries. Their coffee is always very good. And their ice cream is great. It’s a very nice ambience to sit and enjoy a cuppa coffee and a pastry. This is definitely a great place to stop by.
This place offers a variety of delectable Middle Eastern pastries. Their baklava is very delicious!
One of the best and most authentic Arabic sweets bakery in all of the US the kunafa is signature and of course the baklava is a must have, people order sweets from here who are out of state, that’s how good it is.
Love their desserts I went today prepared to wait in line cuz usually there's long line for Christmas and there was nobody there really surprised I know it was Thursday at around 2 o'clock but still very happy I went and made my purchases and got out within 5 minutes. Can freeze all their cookies and they stay perfectly fresh as the day you bought them for up to a month so I am all set for the holidays. No line For the 1st time Almost ever there..... loved it..... Stay safe and happy holidays everybody!!
At one point Shatila was a very anticipated place and visiting here to try their desserts was amazing. However, their variety has been lacking. For the past few years the same items remain without any new ones! It’s time for a change and there should be better options.
Loved the kunafah and fresh squeezed juice ????
Great place to get your sweet fix. I get their baklava tray often to either gift it to someone or to distribute at my office. I really like their Tiramisu, my favorite among their cakes, which quite frankly they have a ton of options for. Really like their pistachio ice cream as well. If you have to try an item is recommend you give kanafa a try. Believe me it's really good. It can get pretty busy and you will need to take a token to wait for your turn. Seating can may be difficult to get during the busy hours as well.
Best sweets place in America.
Well, not what you expect, it's sort of bad, service not so good. Icecream tastes like anything but icecream
We visited this bakery a year ago when we were driving through Detroit. Just recently we've had the opportunity to revisit. The pastries are as delicious as I remember, however keep in mind their customer service has visibly declined. Definitely worth a try at least once.
Best desserts/sweets ever.. excellent customer service ????
This is a great middle eastern bakery with a big surprise, a whole section dedicated to delicious French cakes and pasteries.
In my opinion, and based on years of shopping online with Shatila, this bakery is by far the finest and most trusted. I have shipped products from Shatila to friends and relatives across the United States. Each time I made an order, both business and product surpassed my expectations. Thank you Shatila! You always made my day, and consistently helped me put a smile on the faces of many of my friends and relatives. We love you.
Shatila puts Dearborn on the map. It's a landmark for the area and a must visit spot. Fantastic varieties of sweets, cakes and ice cream. Service is quick and prices are very reasonable. Their mix variety baklava boxes make for a great gift too!
They have the most variety of any dessert place I've ever seen. All good fresh food, friendly people, and extremely fancy containers if you wanna package your order as a gift. Sometimes it gets pretty busy though, but they have a system in place.
Amazing. Worth the trip. Large and quite beautiful bakery with the best baklava we've tasted. They ship it, too! We drove in from Livonia twice this week because everyone gobbled up the baklava so quickly. Outstanding!
Best lady fingers ever! Always delicious. Can barely drive by without stopping in to grab some. Everyone was polite, and quick to help. And the wait wasn't to long to get assistance either.
Ordered a King Cake for Shatila Bakeryv & my Birthday and will definitely be ordering one next year! The cake was delicious and very fresh! Loved the ambiance of the bakery itself and everyone I talked to to ensure a King Cake was reserved for me was very helpful and nice. I'll definitely be back in to try some of the other baked goods.
Honestly, we came and left for the sole reason they not only are they servicing people without masks, but at least 2 employees themselves were not wearing masks. You are a part of the problem, and I will not support a place that isn’t taking this pandemic serious. I am vaccinated and still do my part in protecting those who are vulnerable. To respond to the Owner: 100% true, you had a young gentlemen with a blue cloth around his neck behind the ice cream counter, and another with a black mask completely under his chin putting together a box for a customer. Perhaps, regroup with your workers. I counted at least 4 customers who were serviced without a mask. I took my family and left. If you have cameras I am sure you can see the footage between 8-8:40pm on 5/13/21.
Not sure if it's new management but their staff needs to learn how to communicate better. Cake department ice cream department. Workers had attitudes like they didnt wanna be at work.
I visited this bakery on 3/16/21. I was surprised and happy to see it was ran by all women. It was very clean and well kept. All the staff was super friendly and helpful. Lady at the ice cream section was very friendly and professional. She helped me taste all the ice creams, she was patient with me. Pistachio ice cream is a must try! She also recommended me good restaurants as I was visiting that area for the first time.
It's very expensive. Not worth for what you pay .. Especially who's coming from different states. Thinking about this place .. It's not that thing It's mix between Iraqi and Lebanese. Some Syrian some kind of Indian dessert.. I lost my tongue test when I test that things.
I live down the block from here & honestly it’s the best ever, there ice cream & Pomegranate juice is amazing
there is a terrible customer service, the lady who helped me was very rude, also the lady who answered me on the phone pretending she’s a manager she shouldn’t be dealing with people, nothing but wasted time.... I didnt get her name but she was aged and had small facial features. I was going to order something else but she yelled at me to go pay. And because i got all of the same dessert she charged me for them each individually instead of normal price.
Baklava was literally 120% sugar, no other taste. Don't get anything with a cream filling because it's sour. The only reason I gave it two stars instead of one is because of the atmosphere there and I have yet to try the cakes. Hopefully they won't disappoint me.
Best desserts in town. Lots of staff to keep the lines moving. Something for everyone to enjoy. Clean facility and plenty of parking. Make it a must stop on your trip to Detroit area.
I had a bad experience with the coffee but the dessert is great.
Fantastic place. Very artistic French baked goods at fair prices. They have just as many middle eastern desserts but I'm not qualified to comment on those. But the place is always busy so!
Baklava for the win! Cheap too! The place closes pretty late, but is always busy.
This is one of the best bakeries in the Metro area. Not only can you get the taste of Lebanese sweets but also decedent French pastries and homemade ice cream. I highly recommend the lady fingers or birds nests and the strawberry ice cream!! Definitely a place to try if you haven't yet.
PLEASE STOP USING STYROFOAM PLATES.. even worse, stop microwaving those plates. And when one asks for a glass plate, you are ridiculed by the attendant and her boss. Shame on you Shatila. I have been a customer for 16 years. I just don't want to feed my child microwaved plastic. You owe that to me as a customer. and You need to be more environmentally aware and health conscious. The only reason why I am writing this review is because I care about the state of all the middle eastern stores in the area. Their reputation is our reputation. I want to be able to bring my kids and their kids to these places and feel like they are reflecting the best of what our culture offers. I am always rushed. There must be a friendly and efficient way of getting the volumes of people through. Especially when I have guest whom I'm trying to introduce to my beloved culture. It just seemed that questions were not welcome. The place is loud like a market place, as opposed to a nice bakery/dessert cafe. Additionally, I really don't think the desserts are as authentic as we all want to believe. They are authentic enough for being 7000 miles away from home. But better effort should be made to stay up to date with the quality and methods that are used in Lebanon and Syria. Settling with the status quo is not enough. I will remove / update this review if my next visits to shatila are influenced with improvements. I will take my glass plate with me next time. and see what they have to say about that.
Amazing food love this place. Wish they extend late night hours. We need to leave hooka place early to go here.
Great concept with awesome staff and delicious baked goods. First you draw a number, while you wait to be called on you can look at their wide selection of delicious Middle Eastern deserts and French pastries. Everything is really authentic and delicious. Prices are really good. A whole cake is $35, a French pastries between $1.50 - $2.75. Middle Eastern Pastries differ in price and are pretty affordable. Good bakery!
No doubt, it’s the best dessert down here! I came all the way from Seattle to try it! I really recommend this Bakery.
Shatila is overrated. The sweets are very basic. And so many other better options in the area. They don't add any new items to the menu ever. The service is alright, and the price doesn't match the quality of the food. But it's a good place for a gathering.
This place is amazing, the variety of options to choose from ranges from Middle Eastern deserts, to French pastries all the way to ice cream. It is hard to choose what to pick because there are so many options to choose from. The service was great and there are a lot of places to sit and eat your delicacies.
I have been mail- ordering baklava and filled cookies from Shatila since the 80s. I have never been dissapointed. I would like the people who write negative reviews to explain why they are dissatisfied. Are they competitors? I have Middle Eastern friends who introduced me to this bakery. I have ordered from California and Massachusetts. Sent all over the USA and overseas for over 30 years and could offer zero complaints. I have taken the trays to multiple jobs. Some people do not care for sweets. Baklava is VERY sweet. You are NOT supposed to eat the whole box. They are NOT DONUTS!!
I bought my son's birthday cake here March 23, 2021 and OMG was it beautiful, and soooo delicious but also very affordable I knew I was about to spend $50 or more because of the look but no it was cheaper. I will definitely be here again for more cakes and treats????????????????
Excellence! Plain and simple, the best middle eastern pastries period. They’ve grown and expanded beautifully over the years. The service, quality and impeccable attention to detail keeps getting better. Easy parking, handicap accessibility, fresh smoothies. Put this at the top of your list. If you’re looking to Wow your family or guest. This is it. Reasonably priced. 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Stars!
Fast and friendly. The food is very fresh and always a hit at any gathering
Best Mediterranean bakery ever in Dearborn.. great place to bring kids and wonderful outdoor seatings, when weather permits. Kind staff to help and cleanliness at its best. The location is so good and has lot of parking space for customers. Their sweets are always unique and fresh. There are lot of French pastries also available. Fresh juice bar is inside too.
Great place for Mid-Eastern delicacies. However, I wish they had name tags for every sweet on display. For a new-comer, it becomes overwhelming to decide what to order. You will also get freshly squeezed sugar-cane juice among other things. A must check out place though.
We've always gone to Shatila for special occasions. We ordered from them for both our large engagement party and wedding. For several Eids I've also placed large orders (trays to several different families all across the country). We planned on ordering from them after the birth of our child next month as well. We will not be ordering from them next month or ever again after the terrible customer service experienced this past week. It's unfathomable to me how customer service could possibly be so lacking. There are no apologies and a very rude woman over the phone who my husband dealt with for an entire morning. Instead of calling, she kept having him call back. In the end there was no solution, no apology, and a bad attitude from someone who shouldn't be dealing with people. Nothing but wasted time. This has gotten long. I'll keep it short-- they've lost a couple of loyal customers :(
Good food and service, very busy
Awesome ???? there, the Baklava is really fresh, and delicious ????
Great pastries and they do have vegan cakes as well. Love the fresh fruit juices here. Definitely recommend! Friendly staff suggest pastries and items and they were good. Reasonable prices as well.
A must-visit when in Detroit... take a little side trip to Shatila's. I've been several times, and enjoy the friendly staff and over the top selections of baklava and pastries. Finally I managed to try the ice cream - pretty good. I came alone, but no one inside seemed to care that my skin wasn't as "tanned" as most of the customers. Was helped in selecting a tray of items to take home, mentioned the kind of things I liked and the man behind the counter carefully selected and packed things that were just right for me. I've seen a few negative comments here, if they are microwaving on Styrofoam they should stop, otherwise I love this place.
Great items and service. You’ll find a variety of sweets, from cakes and ice cream to plenty of Arab desserts. They’re not overly sweet either with just the right amount of everything. Only downside is that this place can get very very busy on a regular day, and for any special holidays, it’s unbelievably busy. They move quickly and provide numbers for waiting in line so it is more organized. My advice would be to call the night before and place in a phone order when you know a holiday is taking place. This way, you can walk in, pick up your order and save a lot of time.
Great place for desserts and pastries. They have a widespread selection of middle eastern desserts. Their Baklava is to die for !.They even have freshly pressed sugarcane juice and shakes. The staff is friendly, but I fell the customer service can be a little better. You must visit this place if you are in Detroit !!
This Place is litterly the Best I had Been sooooo good And I meet A lot of nice ppl everyday and the Co workers are Soo nice and I can’t explain how much of gorgeous people they are ….
This place is so good the only disappointment is that I've gone the 1st 30 years without such deliciousness in my life. Everything I have tried has been incredible. I'm quite partial to the cheese filled and sugar glazed treats. The cheesecake and chocolate gummies are amazing too.
Very good service reasonably priced
The place is a definitely must try for sweet tooths . There is a variety of middle eastern sweets, snacks and ice cream. The pastries and cake were really good . The staff are really friendly and helpful. Really love how they perfectly pack your remaining food and give back to you. The place can be more organised with a new system just like as in Chipotle or Subway rather than taking a token and waiting for your number to be called, guess it's more effective and saves time .
So many choices of artisan sweets, it's nearly impossible to decide! Quick service, excellent selection.
Wide selection of cakes, pastries, baklava and ice cream. The place is always buzzing. Great place to sit and eat, people watch. Not all cakes are great, some of them leave an artificial flavor taste. But most are great. Baklava of course is delicious. They serve sugarcane juice!
love this place. can't say enough good things about this local middle eastern bakery. the owner is a super nice fellow and portions are generous for the money. this baklava is not all filo dough and corn syrup...this is the real thing with lots of nuts and fillings. plenty of variety...walnuts, pistachios, date, custard, cheese fillings and a great variety of ethnic sweets. the savory pies this guy makes are amazing too. meat pies and spinach and cheese pies make a great and affordable lunch. this place is worth a visit and after trying it you will be back.
Best dessert I ever had ???????????? !!
If you have sweet tooth then it a paradise for you. Lot of Options to choice and you will be confused as everything looks appetizing . Good Service and Friendly Staff . Free Parking Available.Try the Kinafa for sure.
Had high expectations because it's so famous. Bought a holiday tin - haven't opened it yet as I'm waiting to share with friends. However I also tried their teramisu (misspelled) - it was okay, not great. Also got their Mango Mousse - horrible. Cake was dry and the mousse was like a dessicated foam plastic devoid of flavor. Had to throw it out. I'm sure the bakery is normally very good, but my experience was horrible. Also, the place was overcrowded with no seating available and people reserving tables while their family is elsewhere. I won't recommend this place to anyone.
Michigan's (Dearborn) best Mediterranean Bakery..!!!! If you're in the Metro Detroit area - STOP IN - for a visit and bring your camera....walk out with thee most delicious and beautifully baked pastries, cookies and cakes. (c) David Malhalab (fb)
DO NOT GO HERE DURING THIS PANDEMIC. I’m a medical provider and if you want covid this is where you will get it. They have a sign that asks people to practice social distancing but no one is following it and no employees are enforcing it. When I got there there were 30 people crowded waiting for their number to be called. As I waited it continued to get crowded with over 40 people inside so I stepped outside to get away from the crowd. I called the bakery to complain about the overcrowding and lack of following state protocol. After my call they placed one employee at the door to try to control the flow of people but the lobby still had 40 people. After waiting outside in the rain and finally having my number called after 40 minutes I’m told they don’t have any of what I came for so basically I came here just to be exposed. Also some staff members were wearing their masks under their nose which is the same as not wearing a mask. They should be shut down if they cannot handle the volumes or follow state guidelines.
Love the lady fingers and knafeh with cream. Service is hit or miss depending on who is helping you. Reasonable prices. DON’T FORGET TO PICK NUMBER TO GET HELP WITH YOUR ORDER.
The desserts were amazing, but the coffee wasn’t balanced.
I purchased a cake today for my brothers birthday at shatila.... I come home to cut it and not notice or anyone else when they handed it to me, from the kid who took it out of display or the lady who wrote the birthday sign to find that a disgusting nasty molded fungus raspberry fruit is sitting right on top of the cake!!! They told me it was made fresh today!!! So the person that put those freshly fruit on there “today” did not notice a molded fruit???!!!! The owner of the place could not even offer a refund without the receipt as well even after my family and I ate out of a molded unfresh Cake. He had the decency to ask me for a receipt after I witnessed what they sell customers!!!!! I really hope people look very closely at what they buy from there from now on....I never write reviews but this is disgusting and people need to know as well what kind of place this is! Photos are attached for everyone to see for themselves
Great tasting desserts, with a wide variety of options to choose from. The place is perfect if you have a sweet tooth. Only reason it's not a five star for me is because it's hard to tell what the names of the desserts are and their prices. Really wish they'd have it written somewhere for new comers to help them decide and order. I also noticed this slows down the customer service for everyone.
Purchased sugarcane juice. Definitely not like the ones in Egypt. $7 for 20oz cup. Dine in area is nicely decorated. Stop by for dine in/take out/whole sale orders.
Tasty ???? fresh cakes, pastry and many type of Mediterranean sweets. Good team and service reasonable price for quality. Must go place for foody folks
Nice place........it's my number one it Michigan
Can't get enough of this bakery! Their staff are so helpful and their pastries are pure artistry! Never had anything bad here. Worth the drive and the wait! Sample a few things. You won't be sorry!
Had ordered a birthday cake a week before . The day I had to collect , I called to check if it was ready 3 hrs before , the lady held my call for 45 mins and finally says no order has been placed .called them again and asked them to check and they agreed to deliver it by 12 PM . The cake was not all same which I ordered ... with ok taste . I saw many reviews with similar issues . I think they have improve their process to manage the Birthday orders and improve customer support .
One of the finest middle eastern desert places in all of North America. They have 5 star baklawa and pastries. Equally impressive is their ice cream, which is out of this world (try the pistachio one). They also offer their own branded ice cream tubs which is pretty cool. Plenty of space inside and outside, however the crowds pick up from 4pm until late at night. If you’re in Detroit/Dearborn visiting, Shatila is a must visit.
This is the only place you need to go for the best middle eastern pastries and European cakes! They have every bakery item fully stocked with everything freshly made with the best ingredients. No skimping or compromising like other places use sugar water in place of honey! They use the real ingredients like our families used! They ship around the world and now I see why. My sister in Vegas ordered sweets from here for a wedding 8 years ago. Shipping was a breeze, sweets were fresh and everyone was raving how good they all were. Shatilla still uses all the good stuff and pile the nuts generously on the sweets be it pistachios, walnuts, almonds, cashews! Where to begin and what to pick?? So many good choices between cookies, baklava, candies so on and so on as the counters never seem to end! They even air tight wrapped my sweets so they stayed fresh on our trip back to Chicago! The pistachio cake with whipped cream was like a sweet heavenly cloud! Not too sweet and just right. The girl even had it in a plate and wrapped in the bag! No one does that for you anywhere else I know! They had homemade ice cream too! Nice dining area to sit and enjoy your sweets too. If you are passing Dearborn, you have got to stop in here!
Great people, always busy. They have many things options. I recommend this place for family and friends.
There is an enormous selection of authentic "back home" pastries for sale here. Best of all, they will ship to your location all around the world. Send memories to you're loved ones today!
We've been ordering Mediterranean pastries from Shatila since the early 90s. They've always delivered high quality delicacies -- always delicious!
Beautiful looking food but none of the desserts are labeled or priced clearly so you don't know what you're ordering. I don't see how a customer with a food allergy is supposed to choose accordingly. You don't get what you pay for. I would rather pay more money for real whipped cream and fresh fruits. I ordered what was essentially a giant cake pop (minus the stick). You could taste the plastic wrap or Styrofoam that it was wrapped in while the cake itself had stale nuts. The only good part was the chocolate outer shell which didn't make up for the old taste. Our table was covered with some weird sticky stuff also. Shatila has too large of a selection to focus on quality of food. It's disappointing for a place with so many great reviews.
My first time eating here. Not bad at all. The Turkish coffee was amazing, took a bit of getting used to, but very good. Took home three boxes filled all kinds of goodies. The lady who took our order was very nice too.
The best pastry in Detroit and the Kunafe is the absolute best, bar none. We drove in from Cleveland, just for this desert. Eid Mubarak to all.
Good. Very good. The pastry does not overwhelm with sweetness but is intricate in flavors. In good middle eastern style, deserts are heavily loaded with nuts. This is a spot that is very popular with the locals. Since Lebanon is heavily influenced by the French, you will notice a lot of French styled pastries here also. Have some coffee with your sweets though. Good touch.
Honestly, this is the best Arabic bakery I’ve ever been to in terms of taste, but because of how big the bakery is, it’s hard to work with customer service. Their confusing ticket system doesn’t help either; whenever the bakery’s not busy, there is not enough time to choose an item out of their large pool of food before they call your number, forcing you to go and order an item when you still haven’t made a decision. This makes the ordering process much more confusing and drawn out than it has to be. Honestly it’s worth dealing with these things to get an amazing desert, but it would be much more helpful if the ticket system wasn’t used as often because whenever the bakery isn’t as busy, being forced to used the ticket system makes choosing and ordering an item much more drawn out and confusing than it has to be.
Too many desserts to choose from. What I got was delicious. An amazing bakery.
Craving of sweets? Shatila Bakery & Cafe is the place. Many choices to choose from. This place is also sells birthday cake and wedding cake. Prices are very reasonable. There is an ice cream place at one corner. Sugarless cakes and ice cream are for sell here. Visited this place on March 18, 2021, seating inside is available with limited tables and chairs. Mask and social distancing is a must. Accessible friendly ♿️
I won't say that I'm not going back, but I wouldn't travel far to go there. The baklava is great and the bakery is spacious and relaxing. The knafa is good, but Masri Sweets beats them on knafa taste and it also seems more fresh than Shatila's. The "French" pastries are beautifully decorated but what worth they maintain in beauty, they are lacking in taste. I found the pastries to be dry and taste slightly stale, like they had been previously frozen and thawed. They also have a gross, chemically after taste. I have tried many different varieties and found them all to provide quite the same experience. I went in a few times with different friends from out of town and they have been equally disappointed in the pastries but found the atmosphere to be pleasant. They have ice cream as well, which is pretty good. It is a cute place to hang out with the family or friends if you're local. The ladies behind the counter have been rude and I have also heard this from other friends and associates who have visited. It could be that they're simply too busy and focused, but I don't find their service to be warm or friendly at all. I think they're big enough now that they don't really have to care about these things and may not change, but I would be so happy if they did.
Great service, fresh & tasty sweets.
I made the Mistake to go there today on Mother's Day and it was super crowded , we took a Number and it was 58 and they were serving #8 and for 15 min it didn't move to #9. It took a long time to order. I really dislike that there is only one Restroom, I took my daughter to use the bathroom and in two minutes we were there , they kept knocking on the door after we just told them it was occupied, very Annoying. I like all the different options they have, but be aware that nothing has a price tag so you don't know how much you are paying. The Staff is not that Friendly, for me is like they know how popular the place is and the attitude is like they are doing you the Favor. I live in Royal oak and even though it was fun to go check it out the place , I am not driving back again.
We visited this place because my sister family recommended. But staff rude behavior. Better if they improve customer service.
My family has come here for years. Dessert table for my wedding was from here as well. Every single item is made with 1000% care and mastery. Family says the pastries are exactly like "back home." The French pastries are works of art and incredible. They also have ice cream, like the kind served in Beirut. You can get Turkish coffee by the pot for a larger group of ppl. Love love love coming here and so does my family.
11-27-2020 Update to my previous review - Shatila Bakery reached out to me on Thanksgiving Day to apologies for the incorrect order and said that they would provide me with a replacement. That is excellent customer service. ------------------------------------------------------- I placed an online order and when it arrived it was completely wrong. I called and left a message to speak to someone and my call was never returned. I also emailed a copy of my order and a picture of what I received and never received a reply. 0 customer service.
I cannot fault Shatilas for it's crappy clientele. 90% of the people that frequent this place have ZERO idea on how to actually drive, park, enter or exit the parking lot. As busy as it is inside, a great job is done by the staff and their food and pastries are amazing. Beautiful and delicious.
Shatila has been around for a long time. We used to go when we were kids. We'd drive from Cleveland to Dearborn because that's like Little Lebanon for Lebanese people. Anyway, it was always about the knafe, ice cream and pastries. I haven't been there in forever but made a trip recently and the place is really really nice. The interior design is beautiful and provides a nice place to relax while you enjoy your desserts. I only left with knafe and a couple pastries but they were amazing like I remember. I'll be going back to try out all the things I used to love as a kid.
Best Sweets & Ice cream and Shakes..!! Must try the Mix Shake , Pistachio , Baklava & Khunafa...!!
Wonderful bakery and meeting place for groups. They also have homemade ice cream in many fruit flavors like mango and strawberry. The pastries are fresh and delicious. They offer coffee as well as many drinks like lemonade and so forth. They have several tables and chairs to sit. Their atmosphere is like an Oasis in the desert. Really nice..
Wow my first time trying their cakes and it was my birthday cake . It was delicious and I wanted to thank them for beautiful cake . I loved it! It was so cute and tasty!!
The sweets are good. The place is busy and the process is slow. Expect to wait in line for at least 45 minutes. To that I don't think the sweets are worth the wait.
Very friendly people that work there plenty of Middle Eastern pastries to pick from. They can box up what ever you get if you have a long travel home (which I did) and it was well wrapped. I just went down the line pointing at what looked good and for the couple things I have tried so fare, it's awesome.
It was soooo good, fresh , and yummy
Had a stapler pin in the cake which I almost ate. Showed it to them. First they would not believe it for quite sometime. Then gave an insincere sorry and asked me to take another cake. I am sharing this review so others are careful when they eat their cakes, especially kids. They dint really remediate my problem. I dint want another cake. But I wanted them to take this seriously which they did not. They just dint seem to care.
Beautiful, clean, friendly establishment! Their ice cream was made in heaven, best I've ever tried and I hate things like apricot and pistachios bit when they put it in ice cream I melted! Just hate they didn't allow me to sample something that they had enough of to let me sample but other than great place. Typical Middle Eastern pastries and then some!
Delicious Arabic sweets and pastries. We always make a trip here when visiting Michigan. The apricot ice cream and kanafe jibne bi qahki is the best.
The place is pretty, But the cakes are overprices and taste bad.
Wonderful sweets. Large variety. The kunafa is amazing. They also have new desserts that they never carried before. They also have the best fresh pomegranate juice. A must!
It is win as my best place ever, I always go there when I go to Detroit. They have all what you want from Middle East bakeries and sweets. They really have unique and delicious sweet. I really recommend this place for sweets you can set and eat there are inside and outside tables to set and enjoy
This place is really crossed as they are really popular. I really don't like any of the sweets that they sell. I only like the coffee and chocolate cake that they sell. The Arabic lady at the register is really rude. It's not only the lady at the register, even the other people who help behind the counter are rude. People who are not familiar with Arabic sweets don't know the name of the food and all and they just don't want to help. Just come to this place for cakes. That's it.
Gave us expired cake and were very rude about it definitely wouldn't recommended going there
Simply amazing as it has been my whole life. Great tasty and delicious variety of cakes, treats, baklavas, baklava, ice creams and smoothies. Do try!
I bought 5 different pastries and none of them were fresh ,they're super dry with no distinct flavor between them I got coconut cake , chocolate cream puff , pineapple mousse cake ,neopolitan cake and neither of them had the taste of the flavors .Complete waste of $17
We drive from Chicago to Dearborn just to visit Shatila. The pastries taste fresh everytime we visit.
Amazing flavor and beautiful presentation. Affordable. Very enjoyable atmosphere.
Amazing food, amazing ice cream, amazing time. Even though it was extremely busy, we still got served in a timely manner.
This Bakery is a total experience of delicious pastries ????
Baklava is good not very sweet. Also like there icecreams Khasta pistachio, apricot, pineapple and coconut. Yummmm
The worst customer service that i ever experienced. I have been there for 20 minutes waiting for one of the staff to serve me. They are taking customers by random. They are NOT going either by the ticket numbers or the order of the line.
High quality french and middle eastern baked goods. Don't expect them to be too sweet but the baked goods have great texture, fluffy etc.
Their pistachio and mocha ice creams are absolutely phenomenal, even if you don't like ice cream you must try them. Turkish coffee is really good too. I didn't really enjoy the other ice cream flavors or sweets that much but that's likely because I'm not a huge sweet tooth. There's a huge variety of savory and sweet pastries so if that's your thing you'll definitely find something you love. Everything is made with care, and presentation is top of the line. The environment in the bakery itself is gorgeous, with tons of open space and cute decorations. Service was fast and friendly. Overall this is one of my favorite places in the Detroit area. A must visit if you're passing through and a great place for those who live nearby to visit often.
I ordered the mixed pastry tray and had it delivered to my house via goldbelly. Oh my goodness! These are amazing! Honestly these are superior to any I've had at high end restaurants. Will order again and likely will make these gifts for family.
I have to give a HUGE shoutout to Ahmad!!! He’s so professional, so nice and so helpful always. I get a ton of cakes from Shatila throughout the year, I came in with a vision on how I wanted my sons 1st bday cake and he was polite and was beyond helpful. I am so excited to see how the cake will turn out. What a Great guy, and I’ll definitely be back and will refer all of friends and family!
Very good bakery. The ice cream is very good ????????
I love this place.. I have ordered from them a few times.. they do an awesome job packing their products to ensure a safe arrival. Every thing I've bought has been delicious. Keep up the great work everyone. My only wish is you had a location in Minnesota. One day ... Inshallah.
Chicken pastry was just ok, sweets we're good but expensive than Dearborn Sweets in Greenfield
Love the treats and atmosphere. But gosh the service here is just awful. Bathroom is filthy Talking to the employees is just frustrating, Employee “We don’t have that.” Do you have a replacement? Another size, something similar, a comp? Employee: blank stare Why am I being charged extra? Employee: blank stare.
Not fresh & Not really good bqlawa and knafa it's overnight or two days before & expensive for nothing and doesn't accept EBT so who's used EBT don't go there. the staff are so nice and sweet ; they delicious too ????
Family got this $30 cake for my sister's birthday, and it was absolutely disgusting. It smelled awful, no one really ate any of it, smelled awful nothing like what a cake should be. This was the worst experience I've ever had. I called their store about this cake and management was Outrageously disgusting and hung up on me.
I ordered 2 box of mamoul to give as a gift to my friend . I sent them to the friend house hoping that I gave the gift of new Hijra year and this is what did they find out when they start to try them. I got the photos sent to me by my friend and want to share my bad experience with everybody. When I called to complain the CS representative told me she can’t do anything about my complaint because its too late to complain and she didn’t care and her supervisor doesn’t care too this is not the way to deal with your customer shatila!!!
First time going cheat day great staff and great treats will be back
This place is fantastic! For everyone who has a sweet tooth - it is a paradise of a place! Make sure to get a number first to secure your spot in the line. I honestly haven’t seen such a selection of middle eastern pastries and desserts in my entire life. Frankly, we were overwhelmed with choices and it was very tempting to try everything! They also selll French pastures and desserts. Too bad we stayed in Detroit only for one weekend, otherwise I’d spend my life here. Everything we tried was very delicious! Bakers of this place should represent at the Great British Baking show!
Ordered cake yesterday. It was a waste of money. The cake was filled with cream and cake. It was not like the ice cream cake I usually order. Be aware when ordering. I told them I do not want the cake covered with cream. More cake than ice cream. I wished I ordered from Dairy queen or Cold Stone!!
We are from Texas and Shatila was our first stop. We were so excited to get all our favorite sweets. Waiting in line for about 45 minutes finally it was our turn. The lady who waited on us was so nice. We were checking out and before the cashier could give me my change I asked her if I can add one more thing after spending $180.00 she told me that I had to wait in line. The cashier was very rude. Avoid this place as much as possible!! There are a lot of places in Dearborn that would happy to serve their customers.
I have been to Shatila Bakery four times. The place is usually clean and neat. However employees are mismanaged, give an attitude and are exceptionally impolite. On my last visit I asked for ice-cream in a bigger cup with a lid and the girl behind the counter went off on me. The manager told her to give it to me. While she made it she continued to be hostile and belligerent. This is not the first time for me, but will be the last... of being disappointed over and over again from rude and impolite employees.
Their sweets are incredible! I placed a large, custom order for an event and Ahmad made the process so seamless. The french desserts turned out beautiful, tasted amazing and the service was unmatched.
The place was full of people & you have to take a number to be served. They have beautiful & delicious french & middle eastern sweets. As well as meat and cheese pies, ice cream and coffees. My server did not speak english so we struggled a bit finding out the contents of the pastry; but at last, when we did sit to enjoy our picks in the cafe, we were very pleased. We always return to this favorite cafe.
Overall an okay experience. To start off service was not that great... although there are numbers theh seem to serve as they wish. As there are an overwhelming number of options and with my lack of knowledge on sweets. The lady behind the counter didnt make any useful recommendations. I ordered a bunch of random sweets that just looked like they would taste good. Some did... while others not so much... location was packed! There were no spots to sit so had to huddle and run the second a chair got empty. They have a juice/ice cream bar attached where i ordered pomegrenate juice Can confirm that was definetly tasty! Although the place was bustling and busy.... the lack of service and comfort made this expereince hard to enjoy. Also only one bathroom which was extremely dirty.... would not recommend using it.... .
Really nice folks behind the counter and a HUGE variety of sweets most of them nut based. So be careful with allergies. Haha. With a coffee you have an amazing time here too. Come and eat some sweets that by the way aren't too sweet so you can eat to your heart's delight!!!! They give you extra syrup in case you want sweeter too. There's plenty of parking in their lot but I could see it get busy at busy times so come during not busy times and enjoy your time here. You won't regret it. Finally, look at my picture, I got all those for $5. Not a bad deal.
They have good sweets & very polite customer service but was very disappointed as no one was following the ticket system. We picked a number & the number didn’t go beyond 15 for the longest time & some customers had absolutely no qualms about cutting right in front of us. According to my friends & I we thought that was really bad manners. The sales people did nothing to stop them as well. It’s really rude behavior to cut the line.
The employees are extremely rude, they act as if they are doing a favor to the customers, there is no place for such businesses in USA.
This place is always a must stop everytime I'm in the area. Their assortment of sweets is incredible, from baklava to chocolate covered nuts, pies, cookies and many more delicious treats. Lately I've been getting their sample box, it comes in multiple sizes and it has pretty much everything you need to make you and your friends and family happy. And the ice cream, yes you should also try it. You can have some there or take it home in one of their containers. Protip. As soon as you get there, take a number, you'll need it
It has been a week since I sent a complain to their email address info@shatila.com and as expected no response from them. Here is my story and if you had a similar situation please hit like. I had three different situations with Shatila and the last one last week. The first situation when I bought a cake for my son’s birthday and I bout it for $26 . I came again two weeks later and attempt to buy the exact same cake and the cashier told me that is for $32. I was surprised why is that difference and didn’t buy it and bought something else. The second situation was when I went another time to buy cookies. I asked about the price before my turn comes and I was told $7/lb. , when my turn came, the lady told me $8/lb. and when I went to the cashier, the cashier charged me $9/lb. ?!! I didn’t speak or take any action as I thought this wasn’t intentional and that’s their selling price. The third situation happened with me last week. I got my number, and asked the lady about the price of one of the cakes before my turn comes and she told me $32. I waited my turn for about twenty minutes with my family and kids. When my turn came, I asked the lady who is helping me on my order about the price again (She was different than the other one) and she told me that cake is for $30. We took the cake to the cashier and the cashier was attempting to charge me $38??!! and told me do you want to take it or you’ll take something else. Of course this time I said NO. and left the store without buying anything. Why would I buy something when I’m getting the feel that I’m getting ripped off? Especially that there are alternatives in the market . There is an obvious discrepancies in prices and I’m not sure if they do that intentionally and their employee get more bounce when they do this or this is Shatila’s policy or what is exactly going on I don’t understand.
We had an assorted tray of Lebanese sweets for our wedding and our guests absolutely loved it! There was not a single piece left at the end of the night :) The service was great, staff was easy to work with, the quality is amazing, and the prices were reasonable! We highly recommend them! :)
We drove 3 hours to experience some authentic Arabic desert. We found a clean beautiful building that looked great but the customer service was absolutely awful. We waited 45 mins to order and 30 more mins to get our desert and while we were waiting to pay they told us it was cash only. I ended up having to leave and go to the atm and come back. When I complained, the employee told me that we are welcome to leave. Extremely disappointed that I made the drive, I would recommend everyone to go elsewhere in Dearborn.
It's a really good place and the food was fresh and delicious but I felt one of the guy to be rude to me. Yesterday I asked one of the crew. if my number has come and he was like do you see your number on the screen in a rude way. Poor customer skills and rude behavior. Again rest of the crew were nice and helpful. I'm giving 2 stars for that one guy who was rude to me.
This place is popping! We waited for a while to get our turn, but it was very understandable why. There is so much to try, and all of it delicious. Oh all the things I tried, the cheese pancake thing was the best.
Cancel you entire day plans and brace for a multiple hours wait if you plan to come here. Nothing from this bakery is worth the wait time and lack of customer service. During my wait I started to question whether I was actually in a bakery or in line at an amusement park Edit to respond to owner: Waiting a reasonable time is not an issue for me, it's waiting an extremely unreasonable amount of time that I have an issue with. It's not so simple to just door dash every order, sometimes picking out the right cake or pastry specific for a special occasion requires seeing it and picking it out in person. The real issue here is not staffing the proper amount of people throughout the day, I have seen a line of 50+ people with only 2 employees visible behind the counter helping people, paired with an incredibly inefficient ticketing system. And to your arrogant comment about attracting customers across the nation rather than respecting my opinion, I have been a long standing customer of this bakery and have watched the quality decline over the years. It's not at all what it used to be in the lifetime of the original owner. My family and friends from out of town across the country have mentioned this as well.
One year ago I bought these mini cakes 12 for $14 today I bought the same dozen only the lady at the cash register told me $25! I said wow that’s a lot of money she said that’s a discount of five dollars because you bought a dozen. Well that’s still $25. Guess what you are over priced I don’t think I’ll be coming back to see you anymore. OK the owner is mad because I said it was one year ago that I paid $14. To be honest and fair it was a couple years ago yes everything has gone up in price but you just don’t know these days who is price gouging because that’s a lot of money for those little cakes. Sorry
The most unique bakery I have ever visited. Every kind of pastie,, fancy cookies, cakes, coffee, and ice cream. Did you say vegan, no problem!
When we buy shatila products from local stores in Florida they are old and taste terrible , probably cause the local store have them for sometime. First week of Ramadan a friend ordered this tray directly from shatila to my home, looks great but tastes as if it was baked 20 months ago, terrible and will be trashed cause no one wants to eat it. I used to order mamoul for Eid from shatila but last couple of years I got the same old dry Mamoul do I stopped using them. It’s a shame how they ruin their reputation by selling older not fresh products
we had an awfully horrible experience! we bought a birthday cake after being told it was a vanilla/yellow and chocolate cake, paid for it, sat in the dining area to cut it and enjoy the birthday celebration, only to find it was all chocolate. 1 went to the manager to have the issue corrected, explaining that it was for a special occasion and we were given the wrong type of cake. He was cold, uncaring and uncompromising, flat out refused to correct the mistake made by the person behind the counter. basically said "you paid for it and you eat it now" I would hate to go back because why would anyone pay to be treated so coldly, I want to be in a place where caring and generous hospitality are valued! Definitely, sorely lacking here!!!
SEE UPDATE at bottom of review. What I have learned in multiple visits here…If you’re a “regular”, no need to grab a number. The workers will take care of you quickly. If you come in & take a number, you’ll be waiting due to all the “regulars”coming in & being served immediately. BEFORE anyone replies & says anything about call-in orders, I have 2 eyes & 2 ears. If you placed a call in order, why do you have to order again with an employee? I even saw 1 lady write her order down & slide it to a worker. Once I spoke up, they began calling numbers again. No one should be treated second class! My money spends the same as theirs. I do NOT spend money where I don’t feel welcomed. Loyal customer of over 20 years & I will NOT return or refer anyone here ever again! UPDATE: The owner asked for an email about my bad experiences, as if she wanted to find a way to make it up to me, or at least acknowledge the issue & rectify it with their employees. I sent email weeks ago, no reply. NOT surprising!
Love their middle eastern sweets, they are so addictive. Fingers sweet is my favorite one. In the pastries i like pistachio cream cake.
This place isn't like before. Everything has changed in flavor From ice cream drink baqlava to even cake. The flavors are not good at all. I dont recommend getting from them anymore. I gave it a two star for nice customer service but this won't help with good dessert.
The service was BAD and the dessert was not good. There are so many beautifully presented desserts, but none of the French patisserie desserts were labeled. When asking questions about what a dessert was, the wait staff was very annoyed. They only answered "chocolate" or "vanilla", but no other details - these desserts clearly had other elements than just those flavors. The baklava was the only thing from the Middle Eastern desserts we tried and they were delicious. But from the French side, it was terrible. The "mousse" wasn't actually a mousse, it was simply butter and confectioner's sugar mixed with cocoa the way it tasted. The other three people in my party had different types of cakes and they were incredibly dry. I can't complain too much because I was pleasantly surprised by the prices. The food was beautifully presented, but the flavor and textures were just not there.
Terrible customer service. I would have given “0” but no option here. I have travelled 10 miles to get some pastries from here and waited for 40 mins, no one has even cared and informed about ticketing system to place my order and that was my first time visiting that place. I would rather go to walmart and order good bakery items than wasting time here with worst customer service.
Outstanding Bakery!! Have ordered three cakes from them. Including one multi-tier birthday cake. All baked to perfection! Ask for Ahmed when you call. His customer service, is incredible! great bakery, great staff!
Very good Bakery and have too many varieties
Cake are good but the customer service is terrible ....waited for long time to place my order, no one asks if you need help ... and if you want to add to ur order they ask you to pull out another ticket ....very rude behavior in general .... i would rather go to Sam’s club and get a cake than deal with their attitude ....
Nice place.. with a huge variety of medittarean desserts.Desserts are yummy!!!! But some of them are little bit of too sweet
I bought a tray of fingers from them and they were all Moshi and dough like. Not crispy at all. Poor quality. My first and last time getting this type of treat from them. I do love their ice cream.
We waited inline for an hour and this place was worth it! Grab a ticket right when you walk in and walk around to see what you would like. Everything is fresh! They have everything from kulfi, ice cream, maamoul, all kinds of baklava, and even french pastries! I’m Italian and to see pistachio cannolis was pretty awesome. The prices are right and the desserts are fresh!
Wow all i can say Cant finde any other place whit this selection for this price Just Amazing Love it
Their pistachio ice cream is far by the BEST ice cream I’ve had.
Really delicious pastries and ice cream. Service is always fast and friendly. Always stop here multiple times when I am in town!
I live in Canada, and I love this place. The kunafa nabulsi is the best. Every time I cross the boarder I have to get kunafa from them. My last visit was so disappointing. I ordered 3 boxes of Kunafa nabulsi for the entire family in Toronto. I got home to realize that the 3 boxes contain date pie instead of the kunafa! The cashier mixed my order :( It was sooo frustrating to find this out after driving for 4 hours.
I was there acouple days ago, around 2pm and it was extremely busy I was waiting for about 25 minutes and I really had a plane to catch and was running late so I decided to leave until a young man with a bunch of tattoos I believe he said his name was ahamed he noticed me walking out and stopped me. And asked me if everything was okay I told him I had a plane to catch and was running already late. He asked me to wait for acouple minutes, and came back with some pastries that I wanted. That litteraly made my whole day and until this day. That's what I call extraordinary customer service he was very nice and helpful and polite I've never witnessed customer service like that from anyone. He made me and my family beyond happy. I just really wished I thanked him more. Also the pastries where unbelievable sooo good I will definitely be back once I'm in town again and hope to see the young man there again!!!
A baklava-lover's paradise. Huge selection of Mediterranean pastries with some other European style desserts (e.g. cakes, macarons, tarts) and ice cream just because. Make sure to grab a number when you come in. The staff will shout out your number. They're multilingual and very patient as you point out the different things that spark joy. Was a particular fan of the Birdnest and Osmaliye. Be pleasantly shocked by how cheap everything is. Your order is wrapped expertly in plastic wrap at the end. Sheets of baklava (sugar-free and traditional) are also available to order by the tray and are hand-packed there with a packet of pistachio powder. Baklava tends to be on the sweeter side but makes great gifts. Plenty of seating in the tropical-themed dining area. Self-serve water, napkins, and pretty much everything else. Staff are pretty hands off in the dining area so don't plan on waiting too long for someone to wipe down the tables. Soap dispenser was out in the ladies' room so had to stick with hand sanitizer to clean up my honeyed hands.
Great selection of sweets, especially their pistachio and mango ice creams. Also, give a try to their sugar cane juice with a hint of ginger and lemon juice, freshly pressed and delicious.
Come ready to be in love!! This place was made for sweet lovers!! The atmosphere is soothing. Really really recommend this place to ALL The boxes of sweets are even cheaper and fresh!!
The best cake I ever eat but the service is not good line never move
The best Pistachio Baklava I've ever had. Due the pandemic, I didn't get my fix of baklava from my local greek festival so I decided to scour the internet. I saw Shatila Bakery on Goodbelly and decided to see if they had a website and I'm so glad they did. Got a half tray of pistachio baklava and it was amazing. Can't wait to try their other goodies and if I'm ever in Dearborn I will definitely stop by.
Please dont put everywhere الله اكبر سبحان الله writings and then saint claus figures next to them. If you’re serving to Muslims serve it appropriately
Excellent decor and friendly people! ...and the baked goods are terrific!
I had great experience in Shatila. I was looking for special cake so someone can make for me. I went different bakery’s no one did it for me. Everyone denied. There was only one Person who didn’t let me down. Ahmed the great manager in the store treat us like a family Awesome manager and person.
Unparalleled quality, generously low prices! Everything is fresh, expertly made, and decorated to perfection! It is always very busy, so make sure you grab a number as soon as you enter! I love that they are open late as well. Compared to Astoria, far more value for your dollar! Ice cream is also incredible, I love the kashta (rose water flavor) ice cream: unique, sweet, and refreshing, especially because the rose flavor is not overpowering, just a delicate hint. I only wish everything there had a sign, as some of the trays of treats have no name or flavor listed, and I hate to waste their time asking what several things are (ex: brown cake rolls- one is coffee flavor one is mocha but neither had a sign so I had to ask. Incidentally, both were incredibly delectable!)
Stopped in to buy sweets today. Very rude cashier by the name of Hawraa. No hello no eye contact. When I wanted to pay she angrily told me ‘wait’. After receipt printed I asked if I’m all set and she didn’t answer. Simply handed receipt to me no words. Never met this person in my life but she got me feeling like giving you guys my business is the worst possible thing I can do to her. Very strange interaction. Poor customer service from a well known business in the area, wasn’t expecting this and I hope management handles this appropriately. I understand everyone has bad days but she was literally smiling cheek to cheek with the previous customer.
Since 2020, my new FAVORITE bakery in town! Have not bought a cake, for a special occasion, from anyone else for approaching 2 years now. Ask for Amal of you go, and be guaranteed great customer service, along with the tastiest baked goods in metro Detroit. ????
For years we’ve been supporting this bakery. Recently it’s a disaster. From the Rude Customer service on multiple occasions to the very dry pastries. I just bought 2 dozen French cakes and sweets took them home and what an embarrassment!! A piece of hair in the sweets tray and the cakes were dry and old. When I called to speak to the manger he responds “well what do you want me to do for you”. What a joke that’s some response. Shows how a legacy of a place goes to the drain from its employees. Never going back and they just lost a loyal family of customers.
Briefly their Desserts looks fabulous and Wow ……taste NOTHING …No special flavor just flour with suger
If you like pastries this is your place. They have a enormous selection. Cakes as well. Nice employees. Would recommend a visit.
Love Shatila. Great treats. Add special occasion cakes. Baklava and an awesome variety of pastries. The ice cream is delicious. The service is always friendly with helpful alternative staff. A must place to go.
Pros: desserts are amazing, everything they have tastes delicious, wide variety of every kind of middle eastern dessert you can think of. Cons: not a fan of their ice cream, lines are chaotic…there is no order people continually cut in front of others, items prices are not clearly marked.
It is the best place to get cakes for any of the events at very reasonable price. They have a large variety of flavours, tarts, pastries etc. The staff members are very polite. Clean and good dine-in space.
This was a wonderland of Mid-Eastern pastries and desert goodies. There was an astounding variety of pastries that are a treat for my sweet tooth. Also, I was surprised to see they had ice cream, which I tried. The coconut ice cream was terrific with little pieces of coconut mixed in.
The worst ice cream I ever had, can’t explain my disappointment. Can’t believe good reputation for such a horrible place .
Looks gorgeous but tastes really horibble. I got a gorgeous pre-made cake. When I cut into the cake, It had only half an inch of cake and two inches of butter cream. Most of their pastries lack flavor as well. This was a $37 cake. Waste of money. Service is slow and hectic.
This place is amazing. One of the two places I go to, when I visit friends in Dearborn. A true gem in Dearborn. Open late, and just an awesome dessert place to get some amazing ice cream.
The sweets were not as good as i expected. Some were dry. 6 different employees kept asking me if I was ready to order. I didn't like that because I was still deciding. But it's not too bad. The ice cream was good and it's a beautiful and clean place. It's not amazing but I would go there again.
the staff not friendly and the sweets is cheep but they sell it expensive
Has a great selection of middle Eastern and French desserts. I think the besk baklava around. There is also an ice cream and fruit juice counter which provides fresh and excellent choices. It is hard to just buy one quart of the many great flavors.
I visited Shatila bakery last week on Thursday and bought 5 pounds of mushabak. I am beyond happy with what I got. My family and I enjoyed the mushabak. The picture was minutes after I got home u can tell they really liked it ????. To my fellow Ethiopians, I urge u to try this amazing place. Mushabak was very similar to ours too! You won’t be disappointed!!
My wife recently ordered online. One box included Mamoul Madd Pistachios. Very disappointed. Had crushed shells and hard pieces with ground with the pistachios. Made it almost not edible b/c teeth hitting the hard pieces and almost cracking a couple of teeth. Very port quality ingredients. They used to be better than this.
I ordered a bunch of items to be delivered to where I live in Atlanta. I thought everything will be fresh, otherwise i would not have ordered any of it and would have purchased similar items from a local bakery. The only 2 things that were decent were the kunafa and the spinach pies, and that is only because i paid for one day delivery. Mamoul with walnuts was so old you can tell when biting it, betofour was so hard like a rock. Very disappointed with them, thought this would taste like back home products, i was wrong.
The people there is so nice. Always smiling and get you in and out. Sweets is the best.
We came all the way from East Lansing just for Shatila from the great reputation and the great service, hospitality and quality of dessert that you provide. Thank you for everyone working, the owner and the manager for this great establishment.
By far some of the best pastries I have ever had! Went in to buy a variety of things for a work holiday party and all of my coworkers were blown away. Great customer service and a beautifully designed building. Will definitely be returning!
Actually the pastries in this place tastes better than the Middle East the origin or arabic pastries also reasonably priced pastries are always fresh because it is too busy . one thing would be nice to have is the Kinafa Nabulsia.
What can I say. This place is awesome. Great selection of Mediterranean sweets. Their cake Baker is an absolute artist. I've never seen such amazing cakes. It's like you went to heaven and asked to see their cakes!
Do not waste your time and money on bad customer service this place I do admit have very good cakes but I will not spend my money here as the staff is rude and not welcoming. I was there for cake tasting for my wedding and the staff was so quick to push me out of there location then to have a one on one consultation. In addition the staff asked me to send them an email on the style of cake I wanted for my wedding. I sent them an email and they never responded. Needless to say I took my business elsewhere and had a way better experience with a friendly staff. This place is not the only bakery in town if you like quality as well as hospitality.
I used to love the sweets from this place, even though most of the times they don't have the friendliest staff, still didn't mind it due to the good pastries. But this time I'm very disappointed to find an insect and hair in their cookie box and pastries.
Shatila did my wedding 4 tier cake and it was delicious. Every guest was pleased with the taste. Ahmad helped me ordering this cake and did an excellent customer service as promised. Will recommend my friends and family.
Take a number when you arrive. The lines move fast and the service is quick. Well staffed. Huge selection.
They sold me(and to bunch of ppl) bad gone pastries. Those were smelling so bad. Cashier staff was not that great and not welcoming..! I agree there was power outage so why dint they close the shop for a time being...! Lost my money......
Everything from the pastry to the chocolate to the service everything thing was beyond perfect Thank you so much
I just stopped in this place on my way to a meeting and I gotta say it is 5 stars all around! They have an incredible selection of pastries, refreshments, and plenty of seating in a beautiful environment that is really top notch. I'll be stopping here again soon because the staff was very helpful and as sweet as the desserts I picked up for my meeting!
U want some sweets ???? this is the place and best coffee cake in the city.
Everything was SO good! It's very busy and confusing at first but SO SO worth the wait. If you are visiting Detroit area this place is a must! They have vegan options and sugar free options too ???? ???? ❤
I bought 4 boxes of baklava on 4/19/2021 and it was bad. I used to buy baklava from Shatila Bakery every year and it was very good, but unfortunately recently it is bad. I drove from Chicago to Michigan for some business and buy baklava to my family and my friends but I am disappointed this time because of baklava quality.
