Excellent food and service! This place never fails!!
Food - no issues. It was great. Generous portions, perfectly cooked, quickly prepared. Service - very poor. 5 min for hostess to come to desk when we arrived. She sat us, we didn't get to place a drink or appetizer order for 30min. Waiter complained to us about other staff and being overworked. Then, to top it off, started complaining about Hreat T, the environment activist. The only reason he got a 10% to was becaus
So I had ordered the most expensive steak there, it tasted really good. But the portion was extremely small, as well the sides we're scarce. Only a couple vegetables and one ice cream scoop of mash potatoes. Also while we where eating the company I was dining with spotted a mouse, I saw it after so it was confirmed. We notified the manager, to our surprise they did nothing about it. The company I was with was very scared and we all were uncomfortable. When the bill came there was no compensation, we we're charged full price. As the rodent of the establishment probably still runs freely through the restaurant, I will not go back. The inside was very nice, quiet, classy, dim lit and romantic. If the portion was matched with the price, and they got rid of the mice, I would dine here again.
I got married, and we had a small intimate wedding, held in one of the private rooms available for rent. We booked the Bordeaux Room. A beautiful small room seating for about 25 maximum. Perfect for this occasion. Our server Jeffrey, was exceptional. He was there, but unobtrusive and accommodated all of our needs. I saw a wide variety of meals of off the lunch menu, all of the meals were beautifully plated. I saw burgers, beef dips, reubens..... My new bride had a salmon dish, consisted of a generous salmon filet on a bed of rice and assorted vegetables. She thoroughly enjoyed it. I had a prime rib sandwich. Two generous pieces of tender, delicious prime rib with a tasty rub. All on a tiny piece of garlic bread (it was a normal sized slice, but lost in all of the meat goodness). Side was mashed potatoes, gravy. Probably one of the best meals that I ever had. I should mention that the kitchen is very well run, all of the meals arrived at the same time, and they were hot. All of our guests, raved about their lunch. The reuben and beef dips were highlights. In all of the excitement I only took one picture.... This is a wonderful place to hold a special occasion event, or just to come for lunch or supper. We were in a couple of nights before, and took advantage of wing night. Again I was very impressed, by the service and quality of the food.
Ordered a meal for 2 for myself and fiancée , both steaks were horribly over cooked, one of the appetizer wasn’t available so they sent a random dish to make up for it without asking. The dinner was very poor for the money that we paid for it.
Great server and great food, thats all you can ask for when going to this location.
Meal type
Very good prime chicken wings were on the small side, but the service was very slow. Took our appy order then 20 mins later came back with our drinks and had to ask again about our order. Just decided to order everything at that time.

The Sawmill is one of our favorite restaurants to celebrate a special occasion. Without exception, their customer service and meal options are always very good. Never been disappointed with a meal, since my first visit in 1974.
The food was tasty and generous helpings. The server was friendly and wished my dad a happy birthday and thanked us for choosing to enjoy dinner there. Missed not having the free birthday dessert that most restaurants give when you are celebrating a special occasion.
Holy wow! Seriously amazing food! I'm a really picky person when it comes to food, service, presentation, and atmosphere. This place is 100% the best restaurant I have been to in a very love time. The service was amazing. Never did I have an empty drink or dirty plate. No one annoyed us, but we didnt feel ignored either. It was a mastered art. The food was to die for. Perfect flavor, tender, juicy, and the right size. The dessert was so delicious! Prices are surprisingly moderate. The location was perfect, and the character of the building was adorable. I wish I got pictures of the presentation, because that was also impressive. All in all, the best dining experience I have had in years.
I'm torn on this one. They have all the fixings of a great steakhouse. They have a cozy atmosphere with leather chairs and soft lighting. They have an overabundance of wait staff. They serve good drinks and have a significant wine selection. The downside is where it comes to the food. The appetizers I suspect are from a frozen bag from the distributor and thrown into the fryer (I could be wrong, but that is my impression). Now I had the prime rib with a baked potato for my main coarse. It was almost flavorless. It was also rather tough. This was pretty disappointing as this is supposed to have been their proceed special this evening. I was part of a larger party, so this could have contributed to the low quality of the main coarse, but it does not really excuse it. The baked potato was good though. They have a waitress bring a serving dish with sour cream, butter, chives, and bacon and you scoop on however much you want of each onto your potato. This was the highlight of this meal. Too bad. They have such a cool name for the restaurant (Moose Factory) and I really wanted to like this place.
The service was really good. The food was average prices a bit high.
The waiter was disinterested in being polite. The food was great. The decor was dated. Further we waited too long for our food.
Good food and the lounge was a great atmosphere. We planned on sitting in the dinning area but when we got on site there was an event we didn't know about. So we had to go to the lounge which was still pleasant. The server made sure my wife was well looked after with a gluten intolerance.
The food was fantastic however the most amazing part of our dinner was our server. He was extremely kind, energetic and just all around amazing not to mention his laugh was contagious.
Exceptional food & service. My wife & I had a wedding celebration almost a year ago for our families here. The staff were all incredibly accommodating. All of our family loved the food too. Thank you Sawmill!
Best steak I had in a long time. Àctually was cooked Medium Rare. Service was superb. Asked for no seasoning & even though there was a shift change it was exactly what I'd ord
Delicious food, and friendly staff. I got the Milled Burger, which had the most fresh tasting beef. Was so filling. 10/10 would go again.
Shame to lose this venue! They had great prime rib, something in the buffet for everyone. Maybe with any luck they'll come back to the neighbourhood!
Returned this weekend and didn't disappoint, amazing steak, and Steve is the best, thanks for a great meal
We had a fantastic meal with excellent service from a nice young man. (Preston) The only unfortunate part of our dinner is we parked on the lounge side and due to signs in the entranceway, we sat and waited to be sat. There was another gentleman waiting and we started a conversation. It turned out that he had been waiting to be sat for 20 minutes! I took it upon myself to walk through the building and found a hostess stand on the opposite side, she immediately came to our rescue. I know there are signs that say to just go ahead and sit in the lounge but the sign saying that you need to wait to be seated was very misleading. Food was great and was a fair price.
I had the opportunity to go to this location for the first time in years on Sunday evening and I could not have been more impressed, our server leslie was fantastic.. for someone who had just recently started working there her incite and advise on what to eat and drink was excellent and entertaining, as advised we chose to try the dinner buffet and it was amazing... butter chicken, BBQ beef ribs, roast lamb, roast beef, fried cod and even sushi, everything we tried was fantastic. Everything from the moment we got there to when we left was perfect... thank you to Leslie our server and everyone else we were able to interact with for a perfect evening.
Classic and delicious as always, I've been here many times and have never been disappointed... prime rib sliders here are amazing!!! And the prime rib is also one of my favorite dishes, but in all honesty I'm not sure if I have ever had a meal here that I didn't like! And the buffet....well, just make sure you have on your fat pants! LOL! But it would not be as great of an experience without their amazing staff, they are as wonderful as the food!
Service
Sooooo awesome. Chocolate dome dessert is mind blowing
Meal type
The pork chop was actually insane
Great place for dinner. Recently opened up the lounge with a bit more space. Definitely trying to make it more lively. Seemed to work. Also the buffet on the weekend was awesome. Big shrimp and scallops!
Ordered 1/2 roasted chicken & rib combo... the chicken was semi cooked and had to get them to cook it throughout. It was very rubbery and there was blood coming from the leg. By the time it was returned I had already finished my ribs and potato. No apology from management and still paid full price. Didn't even finish it. However the waitress was outstanding with her service and extremely apologetic but she was not the one that prepared it. Over the last couple of months I noticed that the quality of food and preparation has decreased tremendously. Very disappointed.
Food was food, service better, atmosphere wonderful. The only complaint and it's small issue: Eggs Benedict. Because it was buffett it would be difficult to have them medium, English muffin not hard and more sauce, however over all a great experience!
Great spot, great atmosphere for couples or big group event New York cut
We were there on February 13th,around 6"30 pm.they were slammed with customers, the waitress who came to the table with smiles as they were all tired, but the perfection of all of the staff kept it going. Kudos to the staff and management, you all deserve a gift of appreciation for the great job. Thanks ken Holman.
We have dined at the Moose Factory now known as "Sawmill" since we were little kids and always enjoyed the food! However, we have only been once or twice in recent years for the buffet. The buffet is pretty decent, we were happy with it the last time so decided to come as a family on a Saturday night for a birthday dinner with the family. There was no buffet (our bad for not checking). We were a little disappointed, but were excited to have a chance at the steaks since Sawmill is known as an awesome steakhouse. We arrived in groups until we eventually formed 9, our waiter was very slow to come over and check if anyone would like drinks or appetizers while we waited. Most of us ordered the prime rib which is said to be their famous steak. I asked for it rare which our waiter said would not be possible as they slow roast the steak and it was past rare, he told us medium rare which we agreed was fine. We all put our orders through then began to wait. 30 minutes later, an appetizer came out (there was only one ordered at the table). 5 minutes after that, a basket of bread came out... Why couldn't we have had the bread right after we ordered to tie us over for the wait time? Another 10 minutes goes by and we asked the waiter how long for the food? He explained that he had put the appetizer through and when it came out, he rang in the rest of our food...….. why...… you put the order in as soon as you take it and the kitchen can time the appetizer, no? Our waiter was lovely but seemed like he was a little lost and forgetting things (not writing everything down). Finally we get our food, the prime rib is cold and cooked to medium well-well done.... Had I known it would have been cooked like that I would have never ordered it but we were all STARVING by this point so I ate it anyways... The plate was not worth almost $30 in my opinion.. the vegetables were drenched in oil and the steak was cold and overcooked.... I told the waiter my steak was overcooked and he explained that it slow roasts throughout the night and the best time to order is 6pm... We ordered around 6:45-7ish and didn't receive food until an hour later so I am not surprised it was overcooked.... After a total of 3 hours spent to accomplish ordering/eating ONE appetizer, and ONE main course each, with no dessert, we left tired and disappointed. Anyways, all in all, the waiter was nice but very slow/lost, the food was average at BEST, and I will NEVER be returning to the Sawmill for anything other than their buffet and sticky toffee pudding.
I spent this years's Thanksgiving with my friends at Sawmill. We wanted to order the Thanksgiving special but the turkey was sold out. However, we ordered other dishes which turns out to be good!! Shout out to Super Sanjay for keeping us entertained throughout the evening at such a special day! You are awesome!!!????
Terrible service and mediocre experience. Had a 7:45pm reservation for a family birthday, party of 5. The restaurant was not very busy with our section only having one other table. We were seated by the host, but not given menus. Had to wait for the server to finally get menus. Drink orders also took longer than usual. Once we ordered, the food took abnormally long. The server brought out the melted butter and said our dinners were just finishing being plated. There were 3 other tables in the whole restaurant at this point, and we still waited 10 minutes. The server started to serve our meals and then stopped part way through to assist another table with their bill, even with our food sitting on a tray at the wait station. I had ordered a top sirloin, medium rare, with a side of onion rings. I received a steak and lobster meal. As soon as the server put the plate down, I reminded him that I didn’t order a lobster. He said not to worry, keep it and he would make sure it didn’t get billed. He came back a few minutes later and said that the new head chef and manager were making him bring back the lobster, which he also said would just be thrown out. He made a comment about there being two managers, one of whom was not a ‘good manager’. At that time I also showed him that my steak was over-cooked, to which he commented that it must just be the light. A manager stopped by shortly after (not sure if it was the good manager or the bad manager that was previously referenced), and also asked us how the meal was. He did agree that my steak was over-cooked, and offered to have it remade, however I said that we had waited too long for our food to come out to begin with, and I was hungry. He offered us dessert later. At the end of the meal, the server did not bring up the complimentary dessert that was promised, and seemed to be more concerned about getting the bill paid. Overall, while the food was passable, the level of unprofessional and poor customer service left us all with a sour taste. We are loyalty card customers, and have been going to this restaurant for years as a family. This was by far the worst dining experience we have ever had at this restaurant.
The Moose Factory has great decor and ambience..but for Sunday Brunch I find it too confusing and confining where they kept all the food. There is a entrance that leads into a small area with different food set up against each side of the wall and a food table in the center dividing the room. If there is a line up behind you would have to go line up again to get food from the other side in order to not appear rude. The food was okay, some dishes were tasty and some were just mediocre. They have an omelette station and a station with roast beef and ham. Nice dessert station with lots of choices. Do have to say the the food was replenished quite quickly. Friendly staff. Was quoted $24.99 when I made the reservation but was charged $26.99, could be due to the price of coffee added to the brunch. I prefer to go to their associated restaurant the Sawmill in the Capilano area. The food taste better and more selections.
Dinner
Had reservations for 530 for 4. We added another child. After waiting in the doorway without being helped or acknowledged for 12 mins only to have an a bit of an attitude about adding a chair. Got to our table, no settings dark corner with no lights. After 25 min. waitress took our drink order and appy order, asked to have lights turned on. It is now dark and r5 mins into being sat down, appys come. No utensils or lights still. Askes agin for lights. Only to be asked if we want to order our main corse and she walked away after we said yes please. It has now been q0 mins and no osy has assisted us or turned lights on. Only light is from a window and it is getting dark out. Worse service experience ever from. Any establishment. Will not be coming back her.
Came in for a beer very relaxing environment and the server was pretty good quick service granted was pretty empty
Part of the Patio was open so we sat there. It was quiet in the afternoon. Our waitress was friendly and helpful, and checked in several times with us. I ordered the Blue and Black Ceaser Salad and my friend ordered the Steak. My Salad was really nice and well prepared. Delicious! My friends Steak was prepared how he asked for. Great Patio! Easy Access, Lots of Parking. Enjoy!
Great steaks, adequate buffet. The menu has now been limited to one page now. Sawmill has owned the restaurant for some time but now they will be eliminating the 'Moose Factory' and turning it to just another Sawmill. My wife had the Chicken Alfredo which was adequate. I had the Prime Rib with Yorkshire Pudding. Whoever named it 'Yorkshire Pudding' was either drunk or high. Anyway the steak was also adequate. If you want to pay a lot of money for food that is good enough, and service that is good enough I guess, then this is the restaurant for you.
Had a very delicious meal with the family. Our server was amazing, totally on the ball, and funny. Great time all around!
Excellent service and awesome food. I asked for suicide wings and oh my gosh they were hot. Had the double cheeseburger, it was awesome. My girlfriend had the salt and pepper wings and loved them. She also had the prime rib dinner which she loves. Had the chance to meet the owner none other than Mr. Tom Goodchild, what a nice man. The waitress was awesome, we were there on Nov 15 at 6:30 in the lounge...to our waitress, it was the couple who the guy had suicide wings and spoke with the owner. Ty for the great service. Connie and Wayne
Came here with a large group recently and left with mixed feeling about the restaurant. Staff were all extremely friendly and courteous which was wonderful. Tenderloin and mashed potatoes were good but the vegetables left a lot to be desired. Waiter brought us our first order of drinks fine but after that didn't ask if anyone wanted another. Moscow Mule was served in a glass and was extremely sour. I would have liked a different drink but was never asked. I would highly recommend the owners do a deep clean as the ceiling fan was caked in dust and I'm horrified to think what would have been falling in our meals. I would eat here again if the place was cleaned more and would probably choose a different meal.
We went for the buffet,$29.99 sadly it was not worth that much, the selection was ok but not a lot to choose from.
This is great Steakhouse they certainly know their cuts the space was clean the staff was friendly and they serve great food
Service was great, food not up to expectations. Attended a business meeting. We elected to have the lunch buffet. The selection of food was good. The meat that was available was chicken, rolled up roast beef and at the carving station, beef and turkey. Frankly, I've had better food at Tom Goodchilds Sawmill restaurants. Probably the reason I was disappointed. I would not do the lunch buffet again.
Disappointed with our dining experience at Sawmill (south). I remember the food being of better quality in my past dining experiences at Sawmill. I ordered the chicken and rib plate - the chicken was extremely dry, even the dark meat was dry! The ribs weren’t very “fall off the bone” soft either. The dish was very ordinary, nothing amazing about it and quite expensive for what I received. The ambiance of the restaurant is very dark, old, rustic, dated interior. For the $20-35 price point of their dishes there are so many other great restaurants in Edmonton that I’d rather dine at. I also think that if you’re going to automatically add 18% tips because of a large party, the service better be exceptional. We definitely didn’t get exceptional service; we didn’t even get okay service.
I was at the Moose Factory tonight with my sister. Our waiter was very good. He brought us warm buns that were hard and crusty on the bottom like they had dried out. Our steak came, as well as the baked potato we ordered extra and mushrooms. We halved the potato, one end was okay, mine was hard and dry and had obviously been kept warm far too long. The mushrooms were very good.... Overall, for $70 not including tip, the meal was not worth the money. I won't go back. sorry
My husband and I decided to celebrate our 5th wedding anniversary tonight at the sawmill. We had Steve as our server he was amazing absolutely amazing. He was attentive and informative. Absolutely amazing service! The food devine we had the bacon wrapped scallopes for an appetizer and then both had steak for dinner
Service
I always come back here for a nice romantic dinner with my wife. Hands down better than the other steak places in the city. It is more intimate. Less crowded but the food and service is impeccable. I prefer the dinner service better than the lunch but both are pretty good none the less. The food is well priced. Easy to reserve online. Can't say enough good things about this place. 5 stars for me.
Went out with my family for a nice dinner out.. Steve was out waiter. He was absolutely fantastic!!! Talked with my children with respect, but made it fun for them. Teased them, interacted fantastically. Made our night. Both my young daughters said the next day that they want to go back and see the "nice funny guy" at the restaurant. All in all, great night out. Staff was fantastic, food was great, the night was perfect! I wish I could give 6/5 stars!
Great: decor is still decent, service is ok and what they got right was decent. Not great: the guy in the lounge screaming F you to someone multiple times that we could hear clearly in the restaurant. Being told said person is a regular and a riot to have around. Also not great: the partially cooked shrimp and scallops served. If half of one of my shrimps is blue, that's not a good sign. Scallops were rubbery and undercooked in the center. I spent 150$ during covid to hear a guy scream obscenities and be served undercooked seafood.
Nice atmosphere, good ribs and beverage offerings. Noise level allows you to hear your friends talk.
Very nice place. Awesome service and good food. I'm happy having spent there our anniversary.
We where there for my sons 12 bday , feb 12th 6 pm reservations i made the reservation 5 days prior , explained it was a bday. Requested near a fire , we got there the hostess was great , once seated no where near a fire and the place was almost empty my fiancee went to the front to sneak someone the sparklers/candles , after waiting a while a women from the bar came up And said can i help you , my fiancee explained she wanted to sneak our server the sparklers / candles for dessert , the women said rudely whos your server , cindy then said im not sure , the server then said i dont k know either and we would have to figure it out ourself .. Dinner came , and all plates placed in front of the wrong person ,no biggy but with cold cold vegetables a loaded potato barely warm and a steak that was just ok ... not once were we asked for a refile on beverage... but now the bday !!! finally dessert with sparklers shaped like the number 12 we gave to the server ... well needless to say my sons desert came with out it ... he was 1/2 done then we found the server asked for them , this meal was not worth 250 bucks at all we were met by rude people, no effort to help make ny sons bday memorable and a meal way below average. To times i filled out the contact page hoping to hear back and no reply ... This is a edit Feb 20 Roy from the sawmill group got back to and was very sorry to hear about our experience there , and offered to fix it , he was very pleasant and understanding to speak with
We always enjoy the great food and the good service here. We ordered to pick up on New Years Eve. They were so very busy , but the Manager spoke to all who were waiting for food, as well as answering the phone non stop and checking on how the kitchen was coming along. He was so calm, polite and so very professional and we appreciated how he handled everything that evening. Thanks!
Big group party for work. They were fantastic and friendly.
My boyfriend took me here for my 25th birthday last Friday, and it was amazing! He phoned and made a reservation, and they made sure to give us an amazing table, super comfortable chairs and right beside a fireplace, nice and cozy. Our waitress was lovely and the staff already knew about it being my birthday, which made me feel really special. The food and drinks were delicious, steaks cooked perfectly and tasted awesome. They even offered me a complimentary dessert for my birthday, which was also supremely delicious. We will definitely be returning in the future, especially for special occasions!
Wish they have more clarification on the brunch. Lots of food to choose for a brunch place. The building is huge has multiple entrances. Cozy and classic places. Lots of seniors.
Best ribeye! Excellent customer service.
I love the ambience at Tom Goodchild's Moose Factory. Of course it's the great food we keep going back for. The first time I walked in it was, WOW, then I started walking around and again WOW,. There are rooms and open spaces designed for group events to the intimate, romantic fireplace for two, settings. I walked around taking pictures in anticipation of my entry, that I didn't get a picture of it before my mouth took that first scrumptious taste. The server, Pam, was wonderful and attentive and Peter one of the managers even came to the table to make sure we were satisfied. Definitely great food and a place to celebrate anything.
Service
Beef dip was old and dried out, it made me ill the next day. Will never go back. Too bad the service was great and a nice clean restaurant.
Decided to order a couple appetizers and the chicken poppers were great! Although the calamari seemed a little bland. The server we had was very friendly and came to check on us once in a while. Overall, we had a great time in the lounge!
Dine in
Had great time during lunch buffet. Great selection of menu item. The buffet placing is two sets of tables but we were not sure how to get to the roasted meat curving section with out breaking line queue. It should be changed to have more open space and to single table with two fish for each item.
We'll, at least the calamari was good. 20 minutes for initial service, although the manager came over and give us a drink menu after 15. It's rare the waitress insists you order drinks, appatizers, and meal all at the same time. Had trouble keeping the order straight, seemed tired. Waitress was also very distracted all night, and alternated between abandoning the table and popping in every 2 minutes. Peppered the evening with offcolor jokes and attempts to take our half finished beverages/appatizer, while offering to bring us more drinks (four times total). Please let us finish. My steak came cold, they forgot the side. When they say the centercut is lightly seasoned, they mean in. No, we're good on desert. No, we don't want to share one. Yes we're sure. YES, we're sure we're sure. We know you want a bigger tip, but we're not having a great experience and want to leave. I won't be rude and say it out loud and hurt your feelings, so please read the table. Calamari brings it up to two. Tasted great! The only highlight.
Love the decor. Some cool pics of Edmonton on the walls. Mashed potatoes were amazing!
Not bad food at all, maybe a little unimaginative but some folks enjoy that. Excellent service overall.
Super Sanjay was an awesome waiter and an even better person, amazing service. Thank you for the wonderful evening Sanjay.
Great atmosphere with extremely professional and friend staff. Socially distanced with lots of safe practices in place. Food is absolutely delicious and well portioned. Steak was cooked to perfection exactly how you request it. Baked stuffed potato was absolutely delicious as well was the rib eye steak. Drinks are generous with a great offering and selection.
Lunch
Went on a double date here and had an amazing evening. The food was good. I was a little disappointed with my lamb however as it as good as I have had any other place I have gone and ordered it. But overall everything else was great. Patio was fun to be on and the server was amazing and we never sat around waiting for drinks. I'll go back sometime for sure
Very nice reservation and great service too. Thank you Sawmill for a wonderful anniversary dinner.
Great experience on recent visit. Ordered prime rib special which came with humongous Yorkshire pudding, veggies and the best stuffed potato I've ever had. Don't miss out...you gotta try it. You'll love it,,,guaranteed!
The food was excellent, they were clearly understaffed for New Years as we did not get the usual level of attention. Very slow service
The Sawmill is known for their steaks and their quality. Their lunch buffet never disappoints. I never had anything off the menu or buffet that wasn't to Sawmill standards. The staff is pleasant and efficient even when the restaurant is full.
It was fantastic, the food was awesome... The waiter had so much energy for his age, I Stan ????. Over all a good night out, I think we got our money's worth
Amazing food. The staff were very professional. Perfect ambience for a quite lunch.
I lived the atmosphere here. It is extremely comfortable seating, the service was great, and the food was as well. I appreciated that when we were done eating, we weren't pressured to vacate our seats, but could sit around chatting for a long time after paying the bill. It was all a very pleasant and enjoyable experience.
Had a lovely evening celebrating a friends birthday! Service is always great here & the food is even better. They currently released a new "specials" menu with some pretty good deals. The rib eye steak is still my fave steak out of all the steakhouses I've been to in my life.
We got a gift card for Christmas.. so finally made it here ???????? What a great space .. the newly renovated bar/lounge watched the Hockey.. finale Amazing Menu. hard to choose must try the stuffed potatoes ???? steak! The out side space look amazing too!! Possibly a group party ! We will go back soon T&G
Great restaurant! Great food!
We had our wedding here 6 years ago. Their great quality of food and service stayed consistent.
I don't know where is the picture from, but I loved the place on Calgary Trail. Been there for the first time with friend of mine and the food was great. Prices were a bit higher but after the food was served it was understandable why. They screwed our order couple of times but the staff made up for it immediately and apologized. We still had a great time! I reccomend this place!
Wanting to make a reservation only 24 hours in advance, I had exceptional service from this restaurant. They understood our needs to have some 'we hope she sleeps' baby space on grandpa's 70th birthday. The service was not overbearing but friendly, giving us a lovely relaxed evening.
I ordered the $50 rib eye. Service was good, but the steak is ok. Ive been to two sawmills in Edmonton and the steak has been ok. It was Medium rare, more chewy then i would have preferred given the cut.
Great food and Great service, I go there once a week and my server STEVE is always there with a smile, he greets me and makes me feel welcome, i can not speak highly enough of the staff and how professional they are to there clients its the perfect place for me to have my meetings and discus business. The quality of the food is always perfect. I find that the moosefactory is a great place to impress the one your eating with.

Excellent food. That's why I gave it the 1 star. Went for dinner last night. Was there at 6.20pm for a 6.30pm reservation. Took 15 minutes to be seated, then 30 minutes to get a glass of wine. Main course arrived at 8.10pm! Lots of other patrons complained as well. Very disappointed overall. I gave this place 5 stars previously. Not sure if I will go there again.
It's not called the Sawmill anymore. It seems to be like a craft beer place now Good limited menu and the drinks were great!
The ambiance was very nice and the food was good but not fantastic. We had prime rib and it was not hot just warm and service was just so so. It was not busy and we had to wait 10 minutes before someone seated us. For me it's not worth the price.
Nice environment, good quality steaks, lots of beverage choices, very attentive waitress, and the price was reasonable.
We were a party of 4 and all had the lunch buffet. There was a good selection of different salads, fresh veggies etc. Unfortunately the soup was cold and the beef which was sliced as requested did not have much flavour. Service was ok but we were not asked if we wanted our drinks refilled. Staff checked to see if everything was ok and I should have said something but our group had not seen each other for some time and we were busy chatting and catching up.
Three of us went for the Sunday brunch buffet and were very impressed. The selection was vast with everything from sushi to roast beef (more about that later). There is no way you can try everything, so here's a review of the things that stood out for me... Artichoke salad-very good with a couple of added spices. Caesar salad-exceptional with the big shavings of cheese. Turkey-excellent-real meat (not prefab). Moist. Stuffing-very flavourful. Mushroom porkchop. Moist and delicious. Beef stew-good flavour, but swimming in grease. Roast beef-horrid and still mooing. I asked the carver for a well done piece and he looked fairly frustrated as he tried to find one. He put a slab on my plate and it began to leak red juice onto the other items on my plate. I forgot to get a picture of the bloody mess because I was so traumatized by that accident scene that I couldn't wait for the server to take it away. Eggs Benedict-very good-homemade sauce. Scrambled eggs-meh. Nothing special. Bacon-under cooked with zero crispness. Pork sausage-meh, but cooked well. Saskatoon berry cake-SO GOOD, and I don't like saskatoons. Raspberry tart-very good, good crust. Lemon cheesecake-way too good. I had two pieces. So, ironically, considering the is a place known for its beef, the only fails were with the two beef dishes I tried. We arrived at about 10:15 with no reservation and had no trouble getting a table as the restaurant huge (and clean, and nicely decorated). There is a bit of a fail with the way the buffet is laid out. It's a very tight space and was extremely congested at times. A lot of guests entered the wrong way adding confusion to the congestion. Over all, a good dining experience and we all agreed we'd go back.
Had a dinner meeting with my partners and enjoyed an excellent steak and lobster. Very tasty, and good ambience. It is nice to be able to have conversation and not have to battle loud music that most restaurants sometimes have. I have not been here in a while, but can attesst the quality is even better.
Great service and food!
The place was beautiful, the food was delicious and our waiter ( Sanjee) made our experience amazing. He was full of energy and simply outstanding. Thank you, and will definitely come again.
This location offers quick and friendly service. The private rooms are a nice touch however it would be nice to have a reduced price for the private rooms if the restaurant isn't near capacity. After booking a room for 10 on a Sunday evening we came to realize that we could have saved some money by dining in the restaurant as there were only two other groups. Of course we wanted the satisfaction of a quiet dining experience , but to have the ability to change the booking when the restaurant isn't full would be a nice option. The food was okay : I had ordered the strip steak with a side of two skewers prawns . The steak was cooked correctly as far as doneness , but the cut wasn't of good quality, the meat also didn't rest as the slice to check for doneness leaked all the juices . The prawns were delicious cooked perfectly as well as the vegetables.
Our server Steve was awesome. Made sure we were taken care of without hovering. Food was hot and done to specification. Haven't had a bad meal here yet. The rack of lamb is mouth watering and so tender. Prime rib is juicy and not over spiced. Their burger was huge and fries were nice and crispy.
Food was excellent with clearly marked gluten friendly items. (Except for the chicken). Staff was professional and courteous.
Roy Steve and his staff were amazing to deal with when we planned our Wedding Supper last week. We rented a private room and the meal was amazing. The minute we started to work with Roy he went above and beyond to ensure everything would go off as planned and he exceeded our expectations. Charcuterie platters on the tables when we walked in to the Fabulous dinner and outstanding care to ensure we were happy. Thankyou Thankyou Thankyou I can’t say it enough
Went there for dinner, we were craving steak and it was fantastic. Love the great service and the food was delicious. Thank you to Roy for making us feel so welcomed.
Drove into the city with reservations to dueling pianos after we got a call the night before confirming reservations and letting us know it will be held inside. Get there and it is being held on the patio, that we did not prepare for (jackets). Would have been nice to be told that...instead of the opposite. Service and food was good but not great. Leduc location is better.
This restaurant is part of the Sawmill group but actually called The Moose Factory. Food is pricey but quality of food and service is generally good there. They do a great job of cooking steaks most of the time. Personally, I don't recommend ordering shellfish to go with your steak (making it 'surf & turf'). I've never enjoyed their preparation of shellfish with the steaks - shellfish (esp. lobster tails) always tend to be dry and rubbery - overcooked. Shellfish-only dishes by themselves are better in my experience. I'm an Albertan! - love beef so rarely order anything else on their menu other than beef dinner and shellfish appetizers. Bon appetit!
Great experience! My friends and I enjoyed the Dueling Pianos last Wednesday and it was amazing. Food and service were excellent. Our server Amber was very friendly. We are coming back :)
I came to this location for dinner recently. The service definitely stood out good. In terms of food, I tried the Prime Rib. It was pretty good in terms of cookedness, flavour, and balance of all the sides.
Have been for the lunch buffet several times. I invited two friend today and we were all disappointed in the hot food. The trout as very dry, too much sacey meats. The beef had good flavor but should have been sliced against the grain, the hot food was hardly warm. What happened to the good hot food. Jeffery was the best waiter so that made things better.
Great food. Friendly staff. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit.
Amazing food. And absolutely amazing service. Such a positive energy.
Amazing food great ambience and friendly staff. Always a great time!
We enjoyed the best steak sandwiches and wine ever! The staff were wonderful and we loved the whole experience. We will return.
I was served by the wonderful Super Sanjay on the 16th when there for my mother's birthday. I appreciated his attentiveness and humor. It was his first day at this location and he did a wonderful job and was very personable. The food was just alright but the service made up for it. Thanks so much Sanjay!
Food was excellent, staff followed all covid procedures. We had a large party who stayed for hours. All meals were correct and came at the same time. And they kept coming to fill our drinks and check on us even though we stayed so late.
I only write reviews when the service was really great or really bad. I did make a reservation for 12 although there was only 8 of us. The service was so so slow. We waited so long to even put in a drink order and even longer to order our food. It was prolly 2.5 hours before we even recieved our food. There was literally no wait staff when I went to look for them several time to ask for refills etc. Casual eating I'm sure might be fine. But not to have an event hosted at
It was ok food was not great staff was very nice.
The Alberta beef really lived up to the hype. My steak was cooked beautifully. The service, price and ambiance was fantastic. Highly recommended. Had I been in town longer I'd have gone back.
great prime rib cooked exactly to order. server was attentive and friendly. drinks were delicious! 10/10 experience
Steve was our server for a group of 16 people. He was efficient and met our culinary and drink service needs completely from 6 pm until 10:30 pm. Food was hot, prepared well and delicious. Steve was timely in accepting orders for drinks and sorted out the dinner and dessert requests easily. A most excellent server. The chef too did an excellent job in preparing a variety of food choices, including the perfectly tasty salmon and Neptune chicken. The chocolate bomb dessert was a major hit. Great quality and service and value for money. Thank you
Well... food was ok (sides were a bit... meh, but they grill a good steak). What was left of their menu anyway. But how the heck do you run out of prime rib before 7 pm on a night you have a prime rib deal? And ran out of appys too? When you have a special, you might want to actually have enough prime rib and appys available to meet your orders. Ask before you walk in. Service was slow as well unfortunately. I’m not going to toss the staff under the bus for this one, as apparently they had some issues that evening. But it was painfully slow service. They did try to make it right, and I’ll give them credit for that. But I’m not entirely sure I’d go back even after that. I heard a lot of good things about this place and was disappointed. Hopefully others will have a better experience.
Boring menu, strange attempt at atmosphere. The space feels physically weird, and smells old and musty. The layout is odd, awkward, a feels cheap, like it was done by someone who didn't consider decore/atmosphere/ambiance at all. Definitely not the kind of vibe you associate with a $24 steak sandwich. The only reason I gave this more than 1 star is the service was reasonably good... considering there was only a single server for the whole place. Poor woman.
Brought Mom here for Mother's Day, really should have gone elsewhere. ~3 days before they called and wanted to move the reservation back 2 hours due to planning issues. Strike 1. Buffett - although it had fancier fare it was plagued with typical buffett issues. Food to long in the warmers, run out of food and slow to replace, dirty. Ran out of plates....Strike 2. Staff - service was marginal at best, cold and unfriendly and a few had strong body odor which is a complete turn off. The facility is nice. This place is riding on the reputation of what it once was and not what it has become. Not worth the money they are charging.
Nice atmosphere (just a little loud). Good service and good food.
Food was amazing, waitress went above and beyond. The atmosphere was very elegant. Price was very reasonable for what we ordered. Would definitely go there again.
Meal type
Great food, ambience was lovely! Had husband's 25th work anniversary dinner there the other night and our server was a lovely, humourous, knowledgeable woman! We will be back again! ????
Service was unreasonably slow. The food was barely edible. The Sawmill used to be one of my favorites.
Never had a bad meal here. Portions are just the perfect size. The steak I got was also perfectly cooked to medium rare. What was good about the location is that it is possible to have a nice quiet business meeting while enjoying a great meal.
Dined in the cozy lounge around 4pm on a Sunday. The first burger ordered, waitress came to say they were out. Second choice burger ordered, took a bit longer for her to once again come say they were out. Third time around, they had a very satisfied couple enjoying the chicken waffle sandwich and steak sandwich. We were invited to get dessert from the restaurant buffet which was really nice. We'll be back to try some of the appetizers next time. New Sept 19- Enjoyed great steak dinners in the Restaurant. Both steaks were prepared perfectly and the cajun rub was delicious. Even better than the meals was our Server, Steve. He has a great personality, made excellent suggestions and overall ensured a perfect date.
Delicious food and a fantastic staff! Two big thumbs up!
Dinner
Good food but the service is a little slow. It's not to bad of you don't have a timeline.
I had the prime rib & it was very good. Only enough fat on it to make it tender but not so much that you had to cut off chunks. There was a sauce on the meet that was excellent. It tasted like a liquor was in it but not overpowering. Excellent meal. Evidently, Tuesday nights are steak & lobster for $29 & they have a brunch buffet Sundays until 2:00 p.m. I believe. I tried the Chocolate bread pudding & it was a nice dessert. Not too too sweet but a good size a nice for after a heavy meal. Nice ambience too with a fireplace & stain glass windows. I definitely recommend.
We visited for my parents 67 anniversary. Great food and excellent staff. We had a $150 gift card, which somehow had been redeemed illicitly. The manager came through and honoured it anyway. Awesome job guys.
Good food. Came here for lunch was not disappointed. Great burgers ????
Was there for valentines, what a great meal and evening, covid protocols on place and staff are friendly and coping. Great building and atmosphere , steak just can not be beat
I havent ate at a nice restaurant since covid started 2 years ago and I went here the other night anticipating a great meal with my brother from out of town. We were very disappointed in the quality of our steaks/dinners. The waiter was too busy to attend to us for more than 5 seconds, not only did we not even get drinks ordered until we were already seated for a good 20 mins he admitted he didn't even know we were here. He was always speedwalking away as he's talking SO FAST and we couldn't understand him at all because the Christmas music in the backround was so loud, he had a thick accent, and spoke too fast to boot. For some reason we also had a female waitress (or 2!?) attending us and her and the male never spoke to each other before coming to the table. Everytime one or the other came to us they always asked the same questions as the other person who which we already refilled with or were waiting for thing that they didn't even know we ordered. We were just completely confused all around. My plate was cold, my steak was paper thin and chewy with too much fat. They didnt care about how we were enjoying anything. My brother basically paid 200 bucks for us 3 (third person was a teenager) to talk to each other for an hour. 3 stars only because the appetizers were fanomanal.
Our service was great. We ordered large selections of appetizers for our large group which came on platters. Everyone that ate the calamari what's up most of the night with upset stomachs including myself.
This used to be one of our favorite places to go. Unfortunately we will not return after our last experience. When we made reservations they asked if it was a special occasion. I said yes. It is our 18th wedding anniversary. We wanted a relaxing evening. We always were treated in the past like it was a special occasion even when it wasn't. When we got there, there was no one to greet us at the door. Several wait staff just walked past and did not even acknowledge us. Next we were sat at a nice booth. No complaints about that. Waitress took our order. Our cocktails didn't arrive at the table until after we had finished our appetizers. Waitress blamed it on the bar staff. We had ceaser salad to start and it came with cucumbers in it. Our main course came out 2 seconds after and was brought by someone else who didn't know who had ordered what. It felt like we were being hurried along and rushed. The main course was good but not the standard we were used to when we ate here previously. Waitress came past once we were halfway through the main course. Asked if we wanted a drink refill and horseradish for the prime rib. We said yes to both. She brought out a big bowl and slapped a big spoonful of horseradish onto the plate. Very sloppy. The drink refill never did show up. When she came to clear our dishes she apologized for forgetting the drinks. It happens sometimes and I get that but it was just one more thing in a series of issues. She asked if we wanted dessert. We politely declined 3 times. She insisted and brought it in a to go container. The wait staff used to be so professional and friendly and was one of the reasons we returned to the restaurant multiple times. Now they seem frazzled and unsure how to do their job. This restaurant used to be in the upper dining category but now fits in somewhere between Boston Pizza and Olive Garden. Just don't be shocked when the bill comes and the price is close to double what it would be at the 2 other places mentioned. I have no problem spending money as long as the food and service lives up to the price. They have drastically reduced the menu and taken away the classic tableside cooking. Overall it was a huge disappointment and we will not return.
Great lunch buffet, covers all the meat food groups. Prime rib and turkey are carved right in front if you. My only complaint is the size of plates. I feel like I need a platter. So many choices. When I do try salad I’m not disappointed in the taste, just in the diminished room available for chicken or beef. It is a bit pricier than some other buffets, but it is also just...better.
Went to the Moose Factory with my family for a Sunday brunch. We arrived late (they usually close the brunch at 2PM), however the manager was kind enough to welcome us in and extended the brunch closing time to accommodate us. He made us feel welcomed. and his staff were very friendly and all smiles. no one was huffing or puffing . Although we came late, they had a wide selection of dishes and replenished a few for us. Rib was decent and the desert had a wide variety. Everything was done well they kept coming to take our plates. Nice people and professional service. I Definitely recommend this restaurant.
Wow am I ever disgusted with this place. I have Celiac Disease, which means I cannot eat gluten. I went to the Moose Factory with my staff as a Christmas party, and me and another coworker I was with let 2 different people know that we couldn't have any gluten. We decided to order off the menu, since that was a safer option than the buffet in terms of cross-contamination. We felt comfortable with this since the menu has cute little symbols letting you know what is gluten free. We ordered the French Onion Soup, and we were assured by the server that it was gluten free and that she would talk to the kitchen directly and put it on our order so that there wouldn't be any mistakes. Quickly the food arrived and we began eating. There was bread on top, but since we had checked so many times with so many different people we figured that it must be a gluten free bread. Half-way through, two waiters run up, grab the soup away from us and tell us that it was bread made with gluten. We were then scolded for not knowing that it was "real" bread, and told by the servers and a manager that it wasn't their fault. We will definitely be avoiding this whole chain of restaurants, as they cannot live up to what they claim, and have made us extremely ill. On top of this, they made us feel like we were not valued as customers, and still expected us to pay for our meals. Outrageous!
The prime rib was amazing, the atmosphere was warm and quiet, very inviting and intimate. And the server, Steve, was absolutely perfect. We went because we received a gift card, and because it was such a great experience, we definitely will be back again for another perfect date.
This is beginning to look like a relic. I love the Sawmill as I have many memories coming with my family. I would love to see the space updated along with the menu. Don't just become a Sunday brunch place, go back to rivaling places like the keg.
The ribs were amazing and portions were huge! Some of the best I have ever had. Waitress was really professional and a great smile Service: 5/5 Food: 5/5 Environnement: 4/5 Locals at the bar and bartender a little rude... Loud enough you could hear it from the other side of the room.
The most amazing prime rib we have ever tasted. outstanding service, outstanding food quality. Seasonal veggies were delicious and the dessert martinis are to die for! highly reccomend, will be coming back. the atmosphere was also lovely. great romantic music and comfy chairs.
Came here for our anniversary dinner and it was lovely. Very quiet for a sunday night (maybe because of covid). Felt clean and comfortable. The food was fantastic. Had "the undecided" and me and my husband both loved it. The steak was Devine. Only looses a star because we were assured that without the butter sauce on the shrimp it would be dairy free but my son had an allergic reaction from my milk after so it must have snuck in somewhere. Dairy is hard to avoid but it's made life quite difficult for a few days now and if he had a very serious allergy it would have been real bad. The server did try her best though I beleive. Also the potstickers were awesome!
They never disappoint. I need to go back soon.
Three of us had a lovely dining experience and the meals were done to perfection! Great service! Hope to be back soon!
If you are going to be going to the Sawmill for their Thanksgiving dinner I would recommend not to.. When I called I was told the menu was turkey with mashed potatoes and stiffing and vegetables with pie for 30.00. It was not real turkey but the compressed turkey roll with powdered potatoes with burned vegetables with Costco pumpkin pie.. It was awful. Dont bother and go somewhere else.
My family went with a larger group after a wedding rehearsal. My husband, daughter and I are vegetarian, the rest of the group was not. The wait staff were very friendly and the atmosphere was great. Our food was great, they served us a pasta, cheese and vegetable dish. They were also very accommodating about me breastfeeding my son. I was uncomfortable doing it in such close quarters with unfamiliar people in the private room, so the staff set me up in another private room they had available. Overall it was a good experience and I would go back.
Great food, fantastic service and hard to beat overall. Highly recommend!
All Around pretty disappointing experience. Aside from the poor customer service at the door. We got takeout and the food wasn't worth the money. Raw bacon and a big hair in the salad. The veggies with the main were very small and undercooked. Won't be going back.
I tipped 40% and felt like I should of tipped more. Steve was our waiter and he was wonderful and helped create a wonderful experience. We have two gentlemen come and ask how everything was. The prices were so reasonable and the food was perfect. My steak was cooked perfectly. I am so happy with our experience. Thank you Sawmill!
Excellent steak sandwich. Was delicious and the staff were very attentive and accommodating.
It was just ok. My steak was cold. Which kind of ruined it for me. Sides were great as were the appetizers we enjoyed.
An amazing dinner here. The manager had a lovely demeanor and seemed to have a wonderful rapport with all staff. Steve served us, and entertained us, with a hilarious humor and outstanding service. The food, from the appys to the dessert, was fantastic. The decor and ambiance was just what we were looking for. This used to be a favourite place, when it was Moose Factory, 20 years ago, now that we're back in town it will be again. They have kept every amazing quality from service to quality to design. Kudos to all staff.
The food was great, the staff were very friendly and attentive. Heather in particular was by regularly to ensure we wanted for nothing. I would strongly recommend them for a nice evening out...
Fantastic food and service! My friend and I were there for lunch just now, and Roy and Ella served our table. I got a well-done steak for the first time, but after I told them about it they asked the executive chef to remake a medium-rare one for me. Very juicy steak, and folky people. Will go back for sure!
Went there for New Year's Eve dinner. They offered buffet and table d'hote menu; we chose buffet. Price and food quality are not 5- star level for sure but are acceptable. Prime rib and sautéed prawn and scallops are fabulous! Service is also not 100% attentive, but understandable as it was a busy night. Would consider visiting there again for regular menu later.
We decided to go to Sawmill for their live music night. The entertainment and service were excellent. We were in the lounge side and our server was very friendly and have excellent service. The food was ok (I had a steak and baked potato) there was nothing wrong with it at all but it wasn't absolutely amazing either - it was great for the price.
We booked the private room to celebrate a retirement. The team assigned to us were abdolutely amazing. I ordered the teriyaki salmon bowl. It was terrible. The salmon came with soggy skin and there was so little sauce that I had to mix the Sawmill brand steak sauce on my rice to eat it. Very sad dish. Everyone else at the table ordered steak which they said was very good! Overall the waiters made our experience very enjoyable!
Went for a buffet event downstairs. The actors were amazing but this review is for the food and drinks. They had roast beef and a few other meats and everything was way overcooked. I understand it's hard to get all good ready and once but at least the roast beef should be a medium rare not extra well done. Maybe upstairs has more cocktails. Downstairs had few selections.
Food was awesome, service was great. We enjoyed ourselves. We will definitely be going back in the very near future.
I come here at least once a month with a group of friends. We come for the Sunday brunch. It is so good. You will not find a better deal. It is amazing food for a great price. Even outside of the buffet the food is top notch.
Food was awesome. We all had the buffet and we all thought it was great. Really good food. Service on the other hand was fair at best. We were never asked if we wanted drinks. At the end when we paid, the waiter said the tip given was not enough. Who does that!?!?
