It's one hell of a tattoo shop. The staff members are incredibly friendly, and talented. I had a recent tattoo done by Julien and his work is phenomenal. I definitely recommend them for those looking to get a new tattoo. I hope their shop stays around for years to come because I plan to go too them for my next tattoos.

I dm-ed on Instagram this afternoon seeing if they by chance had room to do a small tribute tattoo. With shops just reopening after closures, I didn't get my hopes up but they had room. Due to weather I was a bit late. And they were more then accommodating and understanding. It was my first time here and I'd definitely come back. My artist was Julian who did a great job and didn't mind me making design changes and giving input. As well the social media/receptionist Melissa was super sweet. Can't wait to return!

Excellent Tatoo shop! Martha the owner is very friendly and courteous as she explains the shop rules. Appt only shop is run very well and on time. There are no months of wait time in this place. The place is very clean and a cool artsy atmosphere. Stephane did my tatoo and is an Excellent artist. He was fast and very detailed and it shows his experience and expertise in the intricate work on my half sleeve once completed. He is very easy to talk to and has 26 years behind his belt and it shows in the end. He goes over the draft design and changes/add and explain how and why he draws it a certain way. It all make sense upon looking at the end result. I had been looking for a respectable tatoo shop with a feel good vibe and you'll get that right away upon entering the Railbender! Thank you again!

I recently got a tattoo here from an artist named Ola. The tattoo looks beautiful but sadly it scarred where she did the white highlights. The tattoo process was good until the end, my skin was already irritated and she was a bit rough at the end trying to finish it. The tattoo is beautiful but I'm not a fan of the scar that it left me. It's my fourth tattoo and my others healed really well so it wasn't a matter of aftercare.

This place was very cute and after going in for my initial consult about getting some basic, watercolour style flowers done on my forearm, Julien seemed confident he could do these. While he was very nice, unfortunately what he produced was nothing like the reference photos I provided him and looked pretty bad. When I contacted the owner about getting at least a partial refund, she told me that they don't do refunds however I could come back in to have him fix my tattoo. After the initial result, of what was a very basic design, I wasn't keen to have him do further work on my arm. When I replied back saying this and requesting some amount back in a refund I was ignored. After meeting with other local artists, in order to get the flowers fixed to the original design, I was advised I would need multiple laser sessions to have the existing flowers lightened in order to have them properly fixed. 1 of 3 laser sessions in, this has been a timely, painful and expensive process to correct what should have been a simple flower tattoo. Below, the blue flowers are the reference photo I provided for the floral style I wanted (to be done in a warm plum purple colour) and the very dark purple flowers are the work completed by Julien.

The studio is clean, the art is always changing and the artists are excellent at their craft. I've had 7 tattoo's done at the shop, all but one by resident artist Alex who is currently taking a break and "out of the office". I look forward to his return. If you're looking for a small shop to get decent work done that isn't on the main strip with all kinds of flashy lights this is your place to go. Not to mention there is an amazing brewery next door and kick ass cake around the corner.

It has taken me some time to decide how I wanted to write this review. And due to length I have had to leave out some of the events and understanding as to why I did not simply leave and why I continued. It took me over 4 years of research and some set backs before I finally decided to go with Julien at Railbender to tattoo a large piece on my back. This process was again halted due to Covid but we began July 2020 and final session September 2020. I was provided with artwork that did not include the intended shading for which is critical to the piece as a whole. But Julien used all the words to describe what he intended to do, that was inline with what I was asking for. I was told it would take several more hours to add shading to the drawing, even though I thought that was the norm? After the first few sessions I was happy with the majority but there were elements that I felt could use work and hoped that the intention was to add something more to those areas. I felt I needed to have faith “in the process” as I was told several times by other artists I had met with and was afraid to offend him, so I sat back and hoped for the best. Truly thinking I was in capable hands that I could trust as an artist. I was happy with the two peonies that were done on my upper back and therefore decided to add a peony to my hip to finish the piece off for myself. This was also to be done at the final session. If I had known that the last piece would not be in the same style and lack any detail to make it realism, I would have just stopped after the third session. Again I was presented with a drawing that did not include shading. If you google “peony tattoo” you will never find an image that comes close to what was tattooed on my hip. The pictures speak for themselves. Please keep in mind that this piece was to be realism with great detail. I was told it would be so stunning it would appear as though you could pluck each petal. I am not sure if Julien simply had too much going on or if it is from lack of experience. However, do not promise something you cannot deliver and I expect someone to own their mistake instead of accusing the customer to be in the wrong. Julien is truly a lovely young man and I wish him all the best in his business but as the artist he should own his mistake. My mistake was not walking away when I was not presented with a complete drawing that showed all the shading even after I had asked for that. I am now under going the long and extremely painful laser removal process and will then have to have it redone by another artist. The pictures are of a reference image, peony done on upper back, and then peony and leaves on hip.
