Ben is an amazing artist and fixed a tattoo I never thought I could get covered up without laser tattoo removal! He’s not all the way done yet but he did an amazing job so far and from the outline I know the rest will be amazing too.. Kevin cracks me up he seems to be pretty awesome too ! John is funny too.. (don’t call n ask him how much it will cost you .. just go in)! Best tattoo shop I’ve been to yet & I don’t even review places anywhere but This place definitely deserved it! Although I do think they should upgrade their shop into personal rooms or maybe a. Big mirror in between the customer sitting place n the tattooing room at least for certain occasions cuz everyone kept asking Ben when he would be done n able to do something else .. he’s amazing but he kan only do one thing at a time ! Just a thought not one bad thing to say about this place!

I went in for a touch up on a tattoo and to have some lines thickened. I spent $80 getting this done. That's how much it cost originally. ???? I was sat in a chair after waiting 45min and the person doing the touch up didn't talk to me the entire time. He was talking to someone else, made no attempt to make me feel welcome at all. I do not recommend this place if you are looking for "personal" touches. It felt like they wanted to take my money and kick me out

I've been going to Revelation for years (mostly for piercings) & as far as that goes they've always been professional and courteous. However, my sister & I went in to make a tattoo appointment last week for us and our mom and the fellow at the front made us believe we didn't need an appointment at all (he believed it to be a simple tattoo) and instructed us to come in early either Friday or saturday morning. We came in Saturday just after noon and everyone acted like we were an annoyance. The drawing was done and the same guy who said we wouldn't need an appointment had an appointment at 2. He pushed back his appointment an hour to do my sister and my mom but wanted me to come in again the next day instead. This was supposed to be a thing we did together and so I wanted it done that day. He told us to come back at 5:30 to give him ample time to finish his appointment. We arrived at 5:15 and weren't even ACKNOWLEDGED until 6:30. For anyone who doesn't want to read that whole story, basically their customer service is SEVERELY LACKING. But their artwork is AMAZING and I am happy with the actual tattoo, so I'm giving them an extra star. If your time is worth anything, though, I'd go somewhere else. There are people who will take your business more seriously elsewhere. I will not be returning.

Went there a year or so ago and Beau gave me an amazing tattoo, he took the time to talk it over with me and made sure I was happy with the drawing before he started tattooing. Ended up with a great tattoo and very proud to show it off.... So today I go in there to get a very special tattoo, EXTREMELY disappointed. There was four guys sitting around the table talking and drawing, there is nothing wrong with that as long as when a customer comes in you put your focus on them. Monk finally asked if he could help me with something, Umm yeah possibly a tattoo. He was very rude and showed no interest in stopping the conversation around the table with the boys to help me out. I ended up leaving without getting a peice of art work. Really sad to see what this shop has come to because I know what it used to be.

My friend and I made an appointment last week so we could get tattoos together while she was in town. First of all, we couldn't get them together because there was only 1 guy available(not what we requested). Then while asking us what we wanted he was very critical of MY OPINION ON MY TATTOO! He sighed when we expressed concerns and made us feel stupid for wanting what we wanted. My friend ended up saying screw it and didn't get hers because the guy was soooooo rude! Then lastly he charged me triple of what I normally pay my regular artists, it was only 2 inches in diameter. I didn't pay that much for half of arm! Sooo, just don't do it.

Alright, I know everyone thinks their tattoo artist is the best and they wouldn’t change their artist, I will totally agree with you! However, at Revelations, it’s not just my tattoo artist, everyone of them are equally as good as mine. Not only with their styles of art but with their personalities and the fact that they treat their clients like family and friends! So, if you go there and you can’t get a walk in right then, I promise you it is worth making the appointment even with the deposit if needed. My girl Charlie has done two incredible pieces on me in the last two weeks, one of which, was a massive coverup on my forearm. John is probably one of the realist and coolest owners of tattoo shops that I have ever met. Once Charlie finishes my sleeve I will definitely be going back for more from revelations! Some people may say “but they are pricey.” First off any tattoo worth a damn should cost you because it’s permanent!!!! But at Revelations it is most definitely worth the cost! Coolest group of people I have met in awhile with the best ink I’ve ever had! Thank you John, Charlie, Jeff, Brandy and all the rest of you there. I absolutely give them all 10 plus stars hands down! I’ve shared pictures and let me be clear the writing is what Charlie covered up.

I was looking to get my nose pierced and I had a horrible experience with the shop down the street so I was driving down N. Oak Tfwy to find another place. I walked into Revelation Tattoo and I was greeted within a reasonable amount of time. It was very clean and organized. Beth came up promptly and had me fill out a consent form. She was very pleasant and friendly. It only took her about 3-5 minutes to get ready for me before she brought me back. I told her I was nervous because it was my first piercing. Beth reassured me that I had no reason to be scared. She had a very calming personality. It went by so quickly I almost didn't realize what was goin on! Long story short... I thanked her for being so professional and told her that I'd be back with my husband for some tattoos. I always rate positive experiences. Hopefully my next experience with this place will be just as good this one.

I just went back in today to get my septum done and switch out my cartilage jewelry and I’m very pleased! She is clean and professional and talked me through needle anxieties! She offers high quality jewelry and I haven’t had any issues (I have sensitive skin and a nickel allergy)! Overall, great place and I do plan to go back!

And I must say I really enjoyed my experience at Revelation Tattoo. Mellisa was great! The prices were great and she gave me great info that helped me come to a decision on what I wanted. I have experienced getting a Dermal Anchor before but I like her technique MUUUCH better. There was less pain because she was so fast. :) She made me and my friends feel very comfortable. She's a pro with a great smile. I definitely found my new place. I LOVE my new piercing. Can't wait to go back and get more done.

I received piercings there for migraines 2 years ago and it's been a completely amazing turn around for them. The place is clean and sterile & Beth was extremely nice, helpful and educated about it. I've had migraines for over 20 years and this is the best money I've ever spent. I still get headaches once in a while, but they are nothing like what my migraines used to be, and they aren't near as often anymore. BEST MONEY I'VE EVER SPENT!!!!

This review is specifically in regard to *Melissa*, the shop's piercing expert. This chick rocks. Not just on a human level either (which she totally does), but she really knows her stuff. If you're trying to walk in to this shop wanting some outlandish piercing on some far-out part of your body that you saw on a tumblr pic, it's not going to happen - she'll tell you no, but she will legitimately tell you why. What made me appreciate her was not only her work itself, but the time she took to consult with me before the needles were brought out. She is very well educated and the pride she takes in her craft is commendable. She recently pierced my inner conch and re-pierced my naval. My previous naval piercing healed crooked and was half closed - she provided suggestions based on what I had to work with and what I had in mind. She was able to conceal the previous (crooked) piercing and it's healing beautifully. 1000% recommend. Revelation is my absolute go-to shop. I trust any artist working under John Monk's with my skin. From my first at 18yo to my most recent, the majority of my ink is attributable to either Brent Wilhelmi or Beau Wofford.

Terrible place! Be careful! I explained it was my first tattoo. First he did the tattoo wrong, it was a grammar symbol and he flipped it backwords, so he had to redo it and make it much bigger to fix it. I was given no instructions just to "wash it a lot for the next 3 days" so I did that, when the scarring started I pealed it not knowing that was bad. When I asked for a touch up he said it would be free only if I get a second 100$ tattoo (tattoo is about the size of a penny). So I made the appointment and came back, however, he no showed and some other guy offered to do it. He seemed very upset and did a quick mess of a tattoo with holes. I need a touch up for both now.

Spontaneous tattoo...I had pretty much no wait time except to figure out my design and for Ben to draw it up. It was a Friday afternoon about 3ish and there were 3 girls ahead of me for the same artist and a few in the seats already. Within the hour of me getting my tattoo the whole lobby was full... Thats a good thing! I've been there before and the service was great, from the girl getting us all lined up to the actual work being done. Update: Nevermind it looks okay. The more I look at it, it's not so bad. The bottom wings look kinda webbed which look pretty cool even though their alittle short. It works. Other than that he did so a good job. I was wanting to get a tattoo of a gothic tinkerbell but the artist was more interested in doing another one of my other photo tattoo ideas. He looked unsure that I would like it and gave me the impression that he was disappointed about something. He sent me off without telling me how to take care of it. And when I got home I examined it some more and I honestly can't say that I like what he did with the wings. The bottom two wings look alittle too short when you look at the original design that I was inspired to get it makes his design look more like bird wings instead of a butterfly look. I wish I could of said something before he started if I had known that it would turn out this way.

Might be great for tattoos but do not get a piercing. My sister and I went and had our ears pierced in April and by August after not healing and even changing the jewelry she took hers out. Mine has never healed no matter what I did. I haven’t slept on my ear in almost a year, I even changed the jewelry. When I went in to my local parlor they said that it was odd it had not healed yet. After looking at the area and the jewelry he stated that the jewelry had been less quality than he’d originally thought just by glance and then once he changed the jewelry he stated the position was a little different so it may be in a way that it just won’t heal. I didn’t think so at the time so I kept with it. I finally found out a few weeks ago that my sister took hers out since it wouldn’t heal either (she didn’t want to tell me) so after everything the local parlor told me to do and it didn’t help, I finally decided to take the jewelry out. (I had to have the same gentleman remove it since I was not able to do so). It was a waste of a year full of torture. I really wanted to keep the piercing.

It was not a welcoming atmosphere as soon as we walked in. I showed them a picture of the exact tattoo that I wanted. The receptionist took a picture of it and went to show the artist. They wanted to charge 180 for a medium sized tattoo which was overpriced, she then said she would do it for 140. Mind you the artist didn’t come up to speak to us not once. The receptionist sent us to her area as soon as we went she told us to move out of the way so she can move the chair with an attitude. She didnt introduce herself or even bother saying hi. I sat down in the chair and she told me to put my arm on the rest and slapped the stencil on my wrist. She didn’t even ask if I was satisfied with the placing or look of it. She just started tattooing and didn’t care that I was in pain and was saying ouch. She was just rushing to get it out the way.

My boyfriend and I went in to each get a tattoo and had the best experience. We walked in and sat at the table in the waiting area and started filling out paper work. (Walk in- no appointment) We were greeted and helped quickly and the artists were all super cool and nice. A girl named Shelly did both of our tattoos and she did an AMAZING job. This was the first for both of us and she was extremely gentle and considerate. She kept making sure we were doing alright and really focused on each of our tattoos. She took the time to get a good idea of what we each wanted, we showed her a few pics and she came up with the perfect designs for each of us. She triple checked to make sure everything was perfect before she did anything else which really put me at ease! She made sure the placement and size was exactly where and what we wanted. The environment was very clean and comfortable. She made sure to deep clean everything before starting my boyfriend's tattoo after she finished mine. Overall, our tattoos turned out better than we even imagined they'd be! We are both so happy and will definitely come back if we get more. She told us how to take care of them, everything you needed to know. She also gave us her card and told us to call her if we had any questions and reassured us that no question was a stupid question. :) the morning after getting it done it did not hurt at all and was barley even red! I showed my friends at work and they didn't even believe that it was brand new because it looked so good! If you're getting your first tattoo, second tattoo, or hundredth tattoo.. I went in March of 2016 to get my nostril pierced. I let her know that I was interested in having a hoop eventually and she talked me into a way too low piercing that didn't fit any hoops. On top of that I was pierced at an up angle so now after spending almost a year with my piercing I have to restart the whole process. She also peirced me with a stud with a ball that has caused a great amount of damage to my nose. Not happy with my service at all.

It looked good the first month but quickly faded. I went in for a free touch up and it is still fadded looking. I've had this tattoo for less than 6 months. The black is not filled in all the way either. I feel very disappointed in the quality.

Went there a week ago and shown them a picture of a large tattoo I wanted on my shoulder. They told me because of the size it needed to be an appointment only tattoo which is understandable. I called later in the week attempting to make an appointment to have it done. Weekends worked best for me and I asked for an appointment on Saturday. Receptionist told me they only do walk ins on the weekends. So there was a smaller one I wanted and went in today (August 1) after Driving over two 2 hours to get there. Showed the receptionist what tattoo it was that I was wanting. Everything seemed ok after I showed them what I wanted and told us it would be about a 45 minute wait. So we waited for 2 1/2 hours before they could get to us. When they did get to us the artist came out to look at what it was that I was wanting. He said that the tattoo I was wanting he did not have time to do that day because he had an appointment at 4 and another at 5. This was pretty confusing and aggravating to me as they said they did not take appointments on the weekends when I had inquired about making one. So I guess it just depends on who you are if you can get or need an appointment on the weekends?? If I would have known all this from the beginning that it was too much for them to do I would have picked something else as there were several other tattoos I was wanting. Guess it just boils down to who you are and how good your money is, then maybe you can get what you want from them. Extremely unprofessional environment and even worse communication. Definitely will not return.

Asked for a chief's logo, was quoted 200$.Have a best friend who is a very good and well known tattoo artist downtown who told me a simple design for this should run no more than 50$. Illustrated wanted to over charge by quadruple! Very disappointing but not surprising.

My daughter went in to get her first tattoo they treated her very poorly. They wouldn’t let her friend in to be with her. They mad her lay down so she couldn’t see the tattoo they didn’t show her the stencil. Brent gave her what ever tattoo he wanted not at all the tattoo she asked for. She’s broken hearted I would never recommend this place to anyone ????

I've been getting tattooed for almost 20 years in KC. Over the years I had heard of Revelation time and time again. I'm glad I finally decided to stop in! At first glance the inside of the shop was impressive!!! Floor to ceiling art work all painted by the artist, I knew I was in the right place!!! I've been tattooed by multiple artists at the shop and every tattooer exceeded my expectations!! I'm currently having a body suit completed by the owner and couldn't be happier to have my body adorned with ink by the best tattoers in Kansas City!!!

Revelation Tattoo is the best! My daughter and I just got matching tattoos and had a great experience. This was my third tattoo from Revelation, second from John Monk. I have also had a piercing done by Beth, who is helpful and professional. The shop is always clean, and all the artists are friendly and extremely talented, so you won’t go wrong with any of them. Customers who are relaxed and friendly are greeted and treated in the same manner. I highly recommend this shop.

Went with my mother (who's in her 60's) to get her ears pierced - we had a GREAT experience! I honestly thought they'd look at us like we were totally out of place, but were very welcoming. The woman who did the piercings was top notch - very personable. I would highly recommend this place!

I can’t speak on behalf of the tattoo artists. However, for their piercer beth!!! she was WONDERFUL. I got my nipples pierced today and of course I was extremely nervous for this type of piercing. She was so kind, patient, and easy to talk to. She helped me through and was so professional. She did so well I didn’t even think the piercing hurt at all. I will go to her for now on for any piercing needed.

I got a small tattoo on my wrist. The artist was extremely rude and talked to someone else about killing himself while working on me. Don't remember his name because the whole experience was forgettable. I was overcharged and the artist did a terrible job. Thankfully it was an easy fix by another shop in KC. I didn't even want to go back.

While I am very happy with my tattoo and it turned out great. I will not return to the artist that did my tattoo. I walked in and was quickly waited on by a nice young lady. Told her what I wanted and when she asked which artist was up none were quick to jump at the opportunity for work. Finally after a few awkward seconds a man walks up. "What do you want?" Not Hi, my name is... What are you looking to get... Nothing. Didn't tell a price until about to touch me with the machine. At this point I am committed. I would love to come back and maybe try a new artist. If you want good work with little to be desired personality, Ben is your guy!

Unprofessional wasn't happy with my tattoo. It took forever. They couldn't give me answers to questions like how long it would take. Of course it depends on each person but they could've given some kind of estimate of time. Even the tattoo artist complained about working there.

I called before I went in to get my first tattoo and was given very little information about everything. I did a walk in but was helped very quickly. My artist (Jessie) did not introduce himself, did not try to start a conversation, I did not feel welcome, I wasn’t even given a price or quote until the tattoo was finished and already on my skin. I expressed my idea, and the artist sighed, rolled his eyes, put his head down, and got an attitude. I was basically told that because of my age and generation that it was dumb and probably just “gotten off of pinterest” even tho It was something very meaningful to me. (and I didn’t even show a picture I brought in a paper with a family members writing on it). I asked the artists opinion on placement and appearance and all I got was a “I already told you what i think and i’ve been doing this for 30 years, but just tell me what you want and i’ll do it”. I told him it was my first tattoo and he said “Just don’t move, that’s all I have to tell you.” I was shocked and felt so disrespected. The tattoo process was quick but I had no idea what was happening the entire time due to absolutely no communication. My tattoo was not even an inch by an inch and I was charged $80. Honest and truthfully, I didn’t even get what I originally wanted because he made me feel stupid and that what I wanted was dumb and that I would regret it, but what I regret listening to him. I don’t usually write reviews, but I am so unhappy and will not be returning to that artist or maybe even for another tattoo. I read other reviews and other people had similar experiences, and it’s just disappointing because I had very high hopes and was not expecting such terrible service. Thank you for your time Jessie but I was not impressed.
