A little over a year ago, I decided to get a large dragon tattoo which I started with a good local artist. After all of the line work was done, I decided that what I really wanted a full Japanese body suit and started looking for an artist to add a suit around the original dragon work. Living in Chicago, I thought I'd have to travel to the coasts to find someone specializing in large scale Japanese work, but was happily supprised when I found Katana Tattoo Studio, close by in Green Bay, Wisconsin, and the phenomenal work of Paul Dhuey. I contacted Paul and we spent some time discussing ideas before settling on a Four Guardians of the Compass theme. Due to the position I had requested for the dragon, working the other three Guardians in was a bit challenging, but I'm really happy with how it's worked out. I'm not artistic, so, for the most part, I've depended on Paul's skills and recommendations, and I have to say I could not be any happier. I love the work he's done and have received many, many compliments. I should also mention that the studio has a good vibe, is super clean, and a great Green Bay location. The other resident artist, Jonathan Gilbert, does exceptional portrait work. He's obviously not working on me (there's no more room!), but I get to see his work when I'm getting worked on - if you're looking for fine portrait or black and grey work, check out his portfolio.

I've been wanting a new tat for six months now, and none of the other local tattoo shops had any openings within six months. Drew had openings within a week of me first messaging him, and he understood exactly what I wanted to get done (a flock of bats on my shoulder). When I came in for my appointment, everything was pristinely clean and set up for me. We worked together to get the placement of my tattoo just right, and he didn't have a problem with me asking things to be rearranged a bit. This tattoo turned out absolutely amazing! Absolutely no spots or fading on the solid black bats, and they healed faster than any other tattoo I've ever gotten. Katana is hands down my new 'go to' tattoo shop in Green Bay.

Just had a full sleeve with a chest panel done. Part of it was a cover up of an old tattoo on the shoulder that I thought it would be impossible to conceal. Paul Dhuey navigated throughout the whole process with confidence and demonstrated not only artistic talent but in depth knowledge of the art of Japanese style tattoo (Irezumi). Paul Dhuey of Katana Tattoo is an incredibly talented tattoo artist. He is exceptionally skilled at large body pieces and has a real knack at making placement decisions that not only highlight the artwork, but also really complements the body that it is on. His shop is one of the best tattoo environments I have ever gotten work in (i.e. clean, new build, well lit, great artwork on the walls...etc.). Well worth the effort to drive/fly to Green Bay if you are from out of town. (I have both legs done (half sleeves) and am in the process of getting a full back piece).

Never go here if you care about a quality piece. Has lines in places there shouldn't be, nd when I told him I was unhappy about It he told me it's just a tattoo. Also charges a lot for the work considering it's completely messed up. Then didn't finish it because I confronted him about the poor quality work.
