I came in for a tattoo from the owner in September 2020. From conception of the tattoo to final inking, Cate was nothing but wonderful to deal with. I felt comfortable the entire time and my tattoo looks absolutely amazing. I constantly get compliments on it. I asked for a mix of an olive branch and wanted it to be 'willowy'. Cate nailed it! From the shape, to the placement, Cate seemed to understand what I wanted completely. They were efficient and the tattoo was pleasant to get. I can't wait to come back to black cat for another piece!

I haven't had the pleasure of being tattooed by one of the amazing artists here yet but have gone to market days! I have friends and family who are immunocompromised so I'm always a bit nervous to go to events in case of selfish anti-maskers or loose policies but Black Cat did a great job of creating a safe space for all. They checked for vaccines at the door, provided hand sanitizer, and made sure everyone was wearing their masks. I appreciate any small business that is doing the best they can to continue operating safely during these times, not to mention a business that supports many local artists.

I am going to be honest to give a warning: My friend and I made appointments with Brianna. Our original email was very thorough with the designs we were seeking, placement, size, etc.. She kindly accepted our email saying that to hold a spot we needed to send her a $50 deposit each - we did. A week or so passed and I decided against the tattoo - I sent her an email apologizing and asking if my brother could take my place. She said that was no problem and to get my brother to send her an email inquiry. He did - she ended up shutting down his idea because the artwork was not her style... Even though she had somewhat similar pieces on her Instagram? Anyways, end of the day, although I was bummed, I understood and respected that. I emailed her stating I was going to cancel my appointment, yet my friend was still going to keep hers. I also asked if there was anyway I could get my deposit back (considering there was still over a month until the appointment and we also did not discuss the design whatsoever). She replied that she was "on vacation and would get back to us closer to the appointment". Fast forward a week to the appointment. We still had not heard from her? My friend had a bad feeling and decided to shoot Brianna an email giving the design idea again and stating her excitement. Brianna came back telling us she cancelled our appointment entirely?!? AND that she doesn't typically do writing so she should find another artist! This really upset both of us extremely. For one, her design was a flower bouquet with ONE WORD written below. And we had stated that design in our first email with her happily accepting our deposits. Nothing added up, we both felt very scammed. Like what if we had driven out to her studio to only find this out there?! (we are not local). I sent Brianna a not-so-pleased email (i must say it wasn't too nice) stating everything and that we need our deposits back. AND her reply was extremely unprofessional with sarcastic remarks, insults and excuses - ignoring mentioning anything about our deposits whatsoever. We went back and forth for a few emails. Her continuously calling me out over and over and ignoring her request for our deposits back. Let me also mention that she basically stated she cancelled my friends appointment because without me, it was a waist of her effort and time...This disappointed me to see because it shows how little she values others. She also did not have the decency to let us know she cancelled both of our appointments or refund us. I literally had to state I would take this to my social media if she did not give us our money back. (A very big low for me- but heck! we are university students working minimum wage jobs) 50 bucks is like 4 hours of work - we wanted our money back! She took this as a personal attack (not my intention) but FINALLY addressed that she would give us our deposits back ( I honestly do not believe without me stating I would make this public she would have given us back our money). I replied with "thanks please send it to ___" This is where she replies stating that "she is in no rush. and would like an apology". Let me tell you this was the most irritating, unprofessional experience I've ever had before. I apologized (mainly cause my first email was alittle harsh and I also I really just wanted my money back). Under any other circumstance I would have not. If anything it should have been vice-versa. FINALLY I got our deposits back (did not think it was going to happen). This was a horrible experience! Yes, Brianna has very real talent as an artist. But she also does not value, or treat people well at all. I bet she would do a fine walk-in for flash pieces, but I do NOT recommend a collaboration of any sorts (or sending her a deposit).

I wanted to write this review to warn others of the bad experience I had. I sent a request last spring for a custom tattoo and I got an appointment for July. Unfortunately I had a terrible experience dealing with the artist. If I had knew the way she conducts buisness in advance, I would have never given her any money. Until a week before the appointment I had not had any communication from the artist except a notification that she had accepted my deposit. A bit nervous, as I was requesting a custom piece, I reached out and asked if I could see the sketch before the appointment. She agreed to draw a sketch up. Unfortunately the tattoo looked nothing like what I had asked for or expected. When requesting the tattoo in the spring I had sent a photo showing what I wanted (two goldfish with whispy tails, including the placement I wanted on my arm) When I let the artist know I was not what I was looking for, she seemed confused. I tried to help her out by sending more reference photos and explaining it better, and empahsised that what I really wanted was it to just be closer to the first photo I had given her. Unfortunately the second sketch was further from what I wanted. When I let her know this she became angry with me and told me she would only re-draw it one more time before she would start charging me money. At this point I had not thought that I was making unreasonable requests (I just wanted a tattoo like the image I had sent her, obviously she could add her own style, but the sketches she sent me were like Koi fish--big bodies, small tails--and nothing like my request.) She accused me of not knowing what goldfish look like and of not being willing to "compromise with her style", and said that the type of fish I wanted was not possible in her "style". I went through her instagram to find another tattoo she had done that was very similar to the type of fish I had asked for (And was in her style!) and sent it to her, and she didn't reply again, except to send me the third sketch. By this time it was the day before the tattoo appointment. The sketch was very close to what I wanted and if I had recieved it as the first sketch I would have been very happy. Unfortunately, I no longer felt comfortable with her behaviour or way of doing business. I also would have loved to work with her to add decorative details and cool effects to the design, but for the past experience I just couldn't be sure she would listen to me. I sent her an email letting her know how I felt and how disapointed I was and how surprised I had been at her behaviour. She responded by apologizing, blamed it on a miscommunication, (apologized for spelling my last name wrong as a stereotypical indian word the entire time even though the correct spelling is literally my email address??), and offered to work with me to make the tattoo what I wanted, or refund me my deposit and we could part ways. I chose the latter option. Unfortunatly she never gave me that refund so I guess those were just more empty words. This tattoo meant a lot to me and I was really sad that it didn't work out. I will never go to a place that does email consultations again because I will never be sure if the artist is actually listening to me. If you want a custom piece, please take my eperience into account before you decide on this artist, because I wish I had been warned. I hate writing bad reviews, but I sent her another reminder that she said she was giving me a refund a month ago, and again received no response. I feel like she would rather pretend my experience never happened and like she always has a perfect customer experience. As I said to her, I would have understood her treatment of me and unwillingness to change the sketch if I had kept asking for difference things and changing my mind, but I only every wanted something like the first mock-up I sent her, and she refused to take my desires into account, preferring to base it all off her "style". So if you are hoping for a great experience and a custom tattoo, you have be warned.

Space was very clean and accommodating. Have gotten tattooed by resident and guest artists and have been wow’ed each time. Highly recommend if you are looking for a safe/great space to get tattooed.

Visited from across the continent to line up early with my girlfriend for their Sat flash tattoos. We both found a design we liked each, but they told us they would only let one of us get a tattoo despite being 2nd in line with slots open. Disappointed.

I have been Cate's client since 2016 and received my fourth tattoo today. I always feel most comfortable having her start off my limbs, since I've finally finished my armsleeve. My first tattoo was also a Valentine's gift to myself, back when she did stick n poke in her home studio! It has been a pleasure to watch her blossom into the artist and entrepreneur she is today. Both artists who were in the studio the day of my tattoo were so wonderful and welcoming and explained the process so that I felt comfortable getting my first tattoo. It healed wonderfully and I love it! I got a beautiful crocus tattoo by Cate on Friday at their new location. Both the studio and the tattoo are beautiful!
