I had my nose pierced elsewhere and was having a ton of issues with it. The original studio was unhelpful, so I was a walk-in at splash of color one day. Andy helped me, and was wonderful. Extremely knowledgeable about piercings, explaining that the jewelry I had been given originally wasn't safe for a fresh piercing which is why I was experiencing so much discomfort. He explained all the steps he was taking prior to doing them, and made the process as painless as possible. Within 24 hours, my piercing was astronomically better, and I haven't had any issues since. Would 100% go back here for future piercings.

I've been there for a piercing and jewelry changes multiple times with mixed success. DO NOT GO ON APPRENTICE PIERCER DAYS. I went on a Thursday to get some jewelry switched out, fairly standard, and I also needed to get a shorter bar for my tongue piercing. They didn't tell me that it was apprentice day and I didn't find out until I noticed a sign on my next visit. The apprentice didn't measure my tongue, just eyeballed it and ended up giving me a bar that was too short. Nobody more experienced checked his work. I had never gotten a properly fitted bar so I didn't know how it was supposed to feel, but after three days the pain got so bad that I wasn't able to eat and could barely talk, so I went back and someone did it right. They didn't refund me the cost of the jewelry, so even though they gave me half off the replacement I ended up paying way more than I intended to for jewelry I can't even use.

I've had two piercings done at Splash by Andy Knag, and each time he's been friendly and professional. He takes the time to explain what he's doing, why, and gives you a head's up just before he pierces you. And the great thing about Andy is that he doesn't lie about any pain or discomfort. When I had my nose cartilage done, he clearly stated that it would feel like a pinch which it did. Then when I did my septum, he said it would be less painful that the nose which I honestly didn't believe him at first. But he was absolutely correct. He prepared me for my eyes watering, handed me a tissue to dab when it happened, etc. He is great. I highly recommend Andy at Splash if you want piercings done by a very cool person who is patient and professional.

I’ve been a customer here since 2015. Their jewelry is of quality, they also have a good atmosphere. I love Renee , she is always upbeat, friendly ,knowledgeable, extremely professional, and most of all caring. When we had a tornado warning, Renee contacted me to insure I made it home safely. Always a great experience at Splash! Renee did my nostril back in October and I love it. Everyone is so friendly and it's EXTREMELY CLEAN AND TODAY!! In February we took my 5 year old in to see Renee and Tyler to have her ears pierced and even though my daughter changed her mind saying "I think I actually want to wait until I'm older" she received an amazing service! I've gotten three piercing and two tattoos at Splash. My piercings went great. They were all well explained and Andy answered any questions I had. Tattoos are more hit and miss. My first tattoo artist was rude and openly scoffing at my tattoo. The next two done by Tina I was very happy with her replication of my designs. Although I feel like the designs should have been drawn out in advance. I came in and told her what I wanted when I made the appointment. Then when my actual appointment came up I had to wait an hour while she looked up the pictures and drew the design we talked about two weeks before. Overall the artistry is good and is worth the money.

I made an appointment here to get my septum pierced because I had heard so many positive things about Splash of Color. I was HIGHLY disappointed. Kenny was my piercer, and while he was knowledgable about his work he was EXTREMELY condescending and rude. He continuously snapped at me when I asked questions about the piercing and seemed agitated with me throughout the entire process. I was also told initially that the total cost of the procedure (including jewelry) would come to about $130, but when I paid, they told me it was actually $145. THEN I was charged a convenience fee for paying with a card, which brought my total to $154. Overall, I left the shop feeling like I'd made a mistake. While the receptionist was kind and the environment was clean, I'm not sure I will return here for any future work.

They wanted me to put more money down, to hold it, than the tattoo would’ve cost. I left found place that did make time and had good customer and got a sweet tattoo. Splash of Color is an amazing place to go for your first tattoo, everyone is kind and shares a smile with you. They will talk with you about what is best to do to prepare for your tattoo and set you up with an artist who is able to talk with you about what you would like. I spoke with Jason Salinaz and he talked me through what would be a good route and how big, time frame, and pricing. He was extremely nice during the consultation and during my actual tattoo. I was nervous about getting my tattoo because I was alone at Splash of Color, however my nerves quickly were set at ease as we had small talk and joked during my tattooing. I had to take a few breaks at certain times during the tattooing and he was very understanding. He is an extraordinary artist and I couldn't be happier with my first tattoo. I highly recommend going to Splash of Color for your first tattoo or any tattoo and piercings you might want to get! I also recommend talking to Jason because he really does reflect his bio on their website, "At the end of the day, I'm the people's tattooist. I love working with people to make a design unique for them...This is where the soul of a tattoo comes from and that is how I want to design it for you." That is a quote from his bio on their website, I truly believe that anyone looking for a tattoo, please read his whole bio. I have already recommend Jason to 3 people in my life who are considering tattoos. I hope this review helps your decision on where to go. I liked how I wasn't rushed, I chose one of the most painful piercings and they gave plenty of time to work up to it. Everything is clean and well explained. I have always recommended splash to everyone who wants tattoos or piercings in the greater Lansing area. Even convincing relatives from out of town to get their stuff done while they are here because Splash is the best of the best. They do great work and are super clean taking your health and theirs into consideration. Recently had multiple encounters with poor customer service when visiting the store from the girl who works up front. She is rude and has NO customer service skills. I was even still willing to purchase after her original rudeness... then I just got angry and walked out. As I was leaving all I heard was her say, "yeah, sorry" in a snotty way dripping in sarcasm. Just thinking about it still makes my blood boil. I will NOT be spending another dime in that store until she is gone. I will be warning everyone to stay away. I am bummed they would put someone like her at the counter. Ugh... maybe in 6 months I will go back and see if they have fired her yet. Sorry you had to lose my business, Splash. I also read another post that says, " ...and the receptionist, I think her name is Emily? is one of the rudest people I have ever met." Yep, my thoughts exactly.

I went there to get my first tattoo and it was nothing but horrible customer service. They told me to put down a $50 deposit and ended up charging me $100 that was non refundable. Second my tattoo artist didn't even sketch out my design that I sent him in advance which took an hour for him to do. Lastly the guy didn't even tell me how to clean my tattoo knowing this was my first one. The vibe was just really bad but my tattoo came out really nice on the other hand hence the two star rating.

Absolutely love this place. My family and I recommend this to anyone wanting to get a piercing or tattoo. The staff is very kind, patient, and professional. The studio itself is absolutely spotless and sanitary. I had my left nostril pierced back in July for an early 14th birthday present from my parents, and I was very comfortable with their service. I have a tendency to get anxious very quickly over small things, but my piercer, Andy, did a wonderful job of making sure I was as comfortable and calm as I could be. He was very informative and patient. A really nice guy for sure. I later went back at the beginning of January to get a bone (a type of nose ring post) remover that I put in myself which was super dumb of me. I wasn’t aware of the damage I could have caused my nose by doing so. Andy was there to welcome me again. He removed the bone ring for me in a matter of seconds and there was very minimal pain. He then used a small tool to measure the size of my piercing hole to make sure I didn’t accidentally gauge myself up a size from putting in the nose bone. Again, I was very anxious and nervous while all of this was taking place, but Andy did such a great job of making me feel comfortable and calm. After he measured the piercing hole, he then inserted a new post (this one shorter than the one I was originally pierced with because the piercing had healed and less bar was needed for swelling room). The smaller post is a bit more comfortable in my nose because a lot less room is being taken up in my nostril. So anyway, my family and I love this place and highly recommend it. I plan on going back to get my tongue pierced the summer for my 15th birthday and can’t wait :)

What a SCAM of a place and the OWNER and MANAGER are rude, and not very nice people. Do NOT GO HERE! I DO NOT reccomend this place for helix piercings. I got mine done 3.5 weeks ago and it's is now so infected that I'm sitting in the ER room again for the second time this week. I was told by my piercer that it was NOT infected and had put in a longer bar in top accommodate the swollen ear. I now have been on 3 different antibiotics, and might have to get a shot in my ear so they can drain the infection. I was told by the owner that it was the doctors fault at urgent care because they didn't prescribe the proper antibiotics, and only to have been told I'd receive $70 back, and in store credit to get it repierced at a later date. Mind you my bill was $213 for ear lobes and my helix. We settled on half money back. I will not return and urge everyone the same.

Any tattoo I’ve ever had I’ve gotten at Splash Of Color. It’s a clean, professional studio with great talent. Many people complain about their steep prices, but the price includes the experience. You don’t feel nervous about the cleaning practices or the talent in the shop. You know you are always going to get a quality product. My artist is Cali, and I will never go to a different artist. He is soft spoken, kind, and brings you through the process step-by-step. He is a talented guy and prices you reasonably. If you don’t fill your whole time slot, he won’t charge you for the whole slot (unless your tattoo takes under the hour minimum). I’ve had nothing but great, professional experiences at Splash Of Color. I can’t recommend their tattoo services more.

I was so impressed when I walked in with how clean and how seriously they take CoViD. I was immediately put at ease because other shops I've been to haven't done nearly as much as they are doing and I appreciate it so much. Renee was kind and professional. I only needed a piercing looked at for irritation and I was in and out quickly. The jewelry selection is amazing and beautiful. I'll definitely be coming back for more piercings and tattoos. My only complaint is that it's so hard to get ahold of them through phone calls. I've called multiple times on different days and have only been connected to once. Its not a huge deal but it is inconvenient when I'm trying to schedule something, especially last minute. Other than that, I had a wonderful experience.

What can I say about Splash other than awesome! I've had 3 of my 6 tattoos done there and could not be happier. 3 years after my first I STILL get compliments on the work and vibrant colors. These artists care about your tattoo, too small, and it will look like crap. They have their own clean room, that's a big thing for me. Perry Stratton is my artist of choice, he does a great job with custom work, you think it up, he'll work with you to get the best tattoo he can give you. Overall, you get what you pay for, at this shop at least.

I worked with Jason Salinaz for a tattoo on my arm and it was just a great experience from beginning to finish. The staff are supportive, helpful, and contact you around the time of the tattoo to go over intake and answer questions you may have. The studio is great and able to take deposits over the phone. The whole process is super flexible with payment. Jason as an artist is amazing and was a lot of fun to work with on a personal level. We talked through a few design ideas and came up with a great piece that I'm proud to have. He really went above and beyond with the work, adding shading and technique to really elevate it. I went here to get a helix piercing above the one I already had. I went with a friend who was also getting an industrial piercing. We were both pierced by Renee McKeith. She was a wonderful woman who made sure we saw her properly disposing the needles and she did her best to make sure we comfortable throughout the entire process. She also showed us different options that would work or be better for our piercing. The needles were also quite sharp, and for my friend who had the industrial they used two needles to ensure that they were very sharp and had no dullness to them. Over the past two years I have had daith and nose piercings done here, by Rene and Kenny, respectively, and have had excellent experiences each time. The facility is clean and the piercers make it a point to open all packs in front of you, to guarantee that the tools and jewelry are sterile. Staff was friendly enough when me and my best friend went in to get our tattoos, I got gears around a symbol on my inner ankle and the artist mentioned it being a difficult area so we made the tattoo smaller and raised it above the callous line of my foot. Looked great until it healed completely and some lines needed a little more definition and one even needed to be completely filled. Since the guarantee their tattoos (not to mention touch ups are standard? This isn't my first tattoo) I went in to get it touched up and the artist is away until at least July (I got it done in November) and no one else will do it unless I pay the $50 minimum fee... the tattoo itself cost just barely over that and I'm asking for a few lines sooooo no thank you. I will not be back, I'm getting another tattoo this week and taking my business to Tattoo Shop because they're less expensive and do higher quality tattoos that last. And actually guarantee their work.

I've only had good experiences here. I've gotten three piercings here, all have healed and turned out well. With my first piercing I got here (Monroe piercing), I had a serious swelling problem. This was a few years ago and I had no infection but the piercer told me I was probably the second worse swelling case he had seen. Again, I did NOT have an infection. Anyway, I had to go back three times to get a longer bar for my lip and these guys were always good about getting me in to do that ASAP and were so good to me during that time. Also got a tattoo here by Cali that turned out BEAUTIFUL! I would definitely recommend this place. They're safe, knowledgeable, clean, and really everything you could ask for in a tattoo and piercing shop! Only downfalls are the hassle involved with parking, and the fact that there's a 5% transaction fee if you pay with card. They do however have an ATM nearby. :)

I got my first helix piercing at a different tattoo place near my house. I went off to school and suddenly felt the need to get a second one and Splash was the only place around. Me and my friend booked an appointment with Renee and... wow was a blown away. There were more options for jewelry compared to the first place I went to and they were much prettier might I add. I told Renee about my experience with the first piercing and she told me some extra information about piercing care that I was never aware of (For example, using studs instead of rings as they are safer, get less irritated, and are easier to get in). I was so appreciative of this information! After getting that piercing, I realized that the backing was flat which meant that I would be able to sleep on my ear (Once it healed) and if I accidentally hit it, it wouldn't hurt. I came back immediately just to get new jewelry for my first helix piercing so that way I wouldn't be stabbed at the side of my face anymore. Renee was the one who put it in herself! Later, I decided I wanted to get a third helix and a daith piercing. My other friend wanted to get piercings too so I said dude we HAVE to go to East Lansing there is NOWHERE I will ever go, Renee is amazing! I even managed to get my sister to come with us so she could get her lobe repierced and so she could get a second lobe piercing (Mind you she is not a fan of needles). As always, Renee was VERY informative. My sister was the one who got her ears pierced first. She was so terrified she passed out. Renee was SO patient with her, let her breathe, gave her juice, let her take a moment to relax. Her second lobe was postponed toa later date but she is going to Renee again. My sister mentioned her daith piercing (Done at a different place) helped stop her migraines but it stopped working after a while. Renee suggested a few reasons for this. My friend asked about sizing for her septum piercing (Also done at a different place) and Renee helped her out with that too. Both my sister and friend really loved Renee said she was very friendly and sweet and not only is my sister getting that second lobe done with Renee but she is going to switch out her daith piercing because of recommendations with it (Plus the variety and GORGEOUS jewelry I don't blame her!). Renee also has a way of tempting me to come back every time I go there. She is so good at her job! Renee if you are reading this you are an amazing piercer and keep doing what you're doing!

Super disappointed in the piercings I got here a few years ago for my 20th birthday. BOTH (forward helix and helix) of them got infected and started to become ingrown despite me taking excellent care of them. I don't entirely know why it happened. It might not have been Splash of Color's fault but I've heard of other people having this issue too after getting their ears pierced here. NOTE: I have 7 ear piercings (one helix, six on the lobes) that I had prior to this experience and never had an issue. ***UPDATE*** I went back to give them another try on a whim. This time around was so much better. Renee was great and informative. I found that there was fault on both sides for my last piercings here. I was told that hoops aren't recommended for cartilage because they won't heal right (that wasn't mentioned before) and that I'm not supposed to twist and turn them (wasn't told that either). Honestly, my first appointment must have been a fluke.

My artist both times told me that 'it was impossible to do a tattoo that small' about a half dollar sized piece. So glad I found better parlors to go to. Sadly, I have to change my previous 5 star rating to 2 stars. I've been coming here for years. I've had 2 tattoos and 3 piercings done here, and I've even brought friends and family here for piercings. But I was not happy with my recent experience. The new guy there was very friendly, but the receptionist was very snarky and seemed to be in defense mode for no reason at all, even though I was very polite and respectful. I got the feeling that she was looking for a reason to snap on me. I came to Splash of Color simply to have my nose ring removed since I am having a medical procedure done, which you cannot have metal on for. They refused to remove it for me, since I am unvaccinated, but they said they would show me how to remove it myself. I had assumed that this meant that someone would be watching over me as I removed it myself. Wrong. All they did was a "show and tell" of how the nose ring opened, as I stood there in my mask. I could have watched a YouTube video for that. Also, as she was showing me how to remove it, she assumed I had a nose stud, so she was starting to show me the nose stud. I briefly pulled down my mask and then pulled it right back up, just to show her that it was a hoop. This literally took me less than one second, yet she snapped at me to pull my mask back up. I assumed it would be important for her to at least see the type of jewelry I'm wearing so that she could show me properly how to remove it, since they refuse to remove it for you if you're unvaccinated. Without seeing my actual jewelry, she would have basically just been assuming what it is and could have been demonstrating on the wrong type of jewelry, which would have been a waste of everyone's time. If you're unable to provide the service I'm looking for, just say that. As a loyal customer for years, I did not appreciate the way I was treated. If this had been my first experience with Splash of Color, I would have rated it 1 star. I left an extra star, only because I've had good experiences in the past.

I chose to go to Splash of Color based on the reviews I had read on Google/Yelp/Facebook. The only real negative reviews were due to pricing, but, when it comes to tattoos and piercings, you get what you pay for, so that didn’t concern me much (the jewelry is all the highest quality with a wide variety of prices and there are discounts for multiple piercings at once). I walked in originally only to ask questions and make an appointment but Alyssa at the counter was super friendly, helpful and very reassuring. She offered me a few dates and then said that Tyler could even do it right now if I wanted. I chose to go for it and booked my appointment for that same day with Tyler. Tyler was very professional and eased me into everything. I have a relatively low pain tolerance and was nervous about getting pierced (double helix and 2nd & 3rd lobes) but Tyler walked me through every step, explaining everything he was doing before, during and after the piercing. He allowed me to completely control the pace at which we went and offered me a break between piercings if I needed it. He was very accommodating and professional the entire time. I even mentioned to Tyler that I am deaf in one ear during a conversation about the piercings and he remembered this and made sure I could always hear and understand him, especially with the music and the surgical mask – that was much appreciated and something most people wouldn’t think to do. The facility was clean, everyone was very nice and welcoming and the experience was great. I never felt out of place or like I was walking into a ‘members only’ kind of place like I’ve experienced going to other tattoo and piercing studios. From the moment I walked in until the moment I walked out was a great experience. I’ll definitely be back! A huge thank you to Tyler, Alyssa and Renee!

I went here to get my very first tattoo because a friend recommended me there. I wouldn't recommend this place to any one. Although my tattoo turned out really well, it had coloring in it where the artist threw in some color I wasn't aware of and didn't ask for. It made my nice tattoo look a little more emo than what fits me. It was on my ribs so I couldn't see what was happening and the next thing I know it's done and not what I wanted or said I wanted. The artist knew it was my first tattoo and the experience was traumatizing. I could take the pain just fine, but the artist, Tina, was extremely rude and even made my friend who came with me uncomfortable.I was yelled at immediately for moving while I was talking, which I understand why that's a problem but knowing that this is my first tattoo, I don't think it was necessary to go straight to yelling at me. My friend has two tattoos so for her to be uncomfortable when not even getting a tattoo made me feel like I wasn't just being crazy. She told me her artist never once yelled at her and she moved on her first one too. The people at the reception desk were always really nice and I have no complaints about them. I could write a lot more about how awful my experience was, but I feel like my point has been made clear enough. I was paying for my tattoo mostly, but I was always paying for a service and the experience. Mine was unfortunately horrible. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. If I ever get a tattoo again, I'll go to Intricate decor in Mt. Pleasant. I know four people who've gone there who have nothing but great things to say about it.

Just got snake bites from Andy, took maybe 10 minutes. He explained all of the proper aftercare and precautions well before it was done, and answered any questions I had. Very professional and laid back. He made sure everything was lined up how I wanted and explained the whole process and made it very streamlined and easy. This is my first lip piercing and it didn't hurt as bad as biting your lip while eating, and I'm extremely happy with the service, I'll definitely be going back.

I went to Splash of Color today to get pierced. The place itself was very clean, and all of the staff members I spoke to were friendly and welcoming. I was super nervous about getting pierced (got my nipples done), but Renee did an amazing job at making me feel comfortable. Apparently it’s ok to schedule appointments on top of someone else’s and completely ghost them when they try to schedule with someone else. I’m not from there and specifically picked them out. I was talking to an artist for two months about my plan. When scheduled over his personal text message he went silent for two weeks. Being respectful of his time I waited. Sent two questioning messages in the mean time. He then told me to call the shop and put it in his books. The GIRL (very snarkey) told me he scheduled something for that same day. Mine was a 6 hour $700 tattoo he let walk out the door, to not hear from him again. I left a message to see if someone else was available to Do the tattoo and no call back. Apparently they don’t want to do the tattoo.

Renee pierced my conch, and I love it. I had it done before, but it closed over, so I wanted it redone. She was welcoming, friendly, professional, and fun. It was so fast, no pain, and so far is healing wonderfully. 10/10 would go again!!!

Terrible terrible experience and pierced where I didn’t want it ???? was extremely upset about it. Still am saddened by it but life goes on... I will always go here for my piercings not just because they're great and everyone is really nice but their jewelry isn't surgical steel, it's really good quality jewelry. I have been coming to splash for the last 5 years. I do love this shop and have recommended it many times over the years. The staff and piercing/tattoo rooms are clean and well kept. I came in today and the experience was quite off. I patiently waited 45 minutes for the piercing artist because I dropped my Monroe piercing in the sink and needed to be sized for new jewelry. I had no problem waiting for good service. While waiting the receptionist took numerous phonecalls and acted very short and rude with each person that called. I was called back to the room and told that they had no jewelry in stock so they would refund my money. I wish they would have known they had no standard jewelry when i came in to avoid the wait. However they graciously refunded my money and I left the tip due to the piercer being very nice and thorough. Then the receptionist refunded me $80.00 instead of $40.00 so she had to charge my card $40.00 again. Luckily I have the money to cover the wait for the refund to come through but others may not have that luxury so this is a problem. I didn't want my piercing to close so I went to another shop for jewelry which was unsuccessful. Then I drove to my mother's house to get the original post I was given at splash but still needed help to put it in. I called splash to set up a time where i could come and get help to put the piercing in. The receptionist rudely explained that they may not be able to put the jewelry in because it depends on the threading etc. etc. Understanding I said "okay may I please make an appointment to come in" (hoping to avoid waiting again for nothing" She snapped back, "you can just come whenever" and hung up. I decided to not come back in because I was so irritated. I anticipate the shop losing additional business due to the rude attitude of this receptionist.
