I came in with a medusa piercing that had become extremely swollen and embedded into the skin (done elsewhere). Dan was very gentle and made sure I wasn’t in too much pain as he went through the removal process. After he removed and cleaned it, he explained why it might have become embedded and what could be done differently to avoid the reaction. He was really kind and didn’t make me feel like I had done anything wrong or stupid in caring for the piercing, but made sure that I understood what to do next time. I really appreciate the help and I’ll be back in a few months to get the piercing redone!

Came here just yesterday to get my second lobe piercing, the lovely woman at the front desk got me squeezed in with Doug for a quick peircing and I can definitely it was hands down the best peircing experience I've had. To say I'm slightly phobic of needles is an understatement. Doug was very helpful and reassuring with my concerns and help consult me for where I wanted to have them spaced to fit my third pericing in the future. To keep it short, had both done, went well, I ended up graying out, puked in there trash can and Doug was there all the way to make sure I was okay and that this was a common occurrence and that hes seen it all. As embarrassing as the experience was I didnt feel ashamed and felt very comfortable and at home there. Great service, great environment, and Fantastic people. Thank you too both of you guys, I'll definitely be coming around in the following month for that third peircing.

Are you someone that gets nervous about going to tattoo/piercing shops because you usually you have just a few tattoos or piercings because usually the people that work at those shops are heavily modified themselves. Well i am in the same boat. The first time I came here, I came as a walk in and they got me in almost immediately. The person at the desk (sorry can't remember her name) was super nice and helpful. I got piercer Doug and he's a sweetheart he didn't charge me anything because my piercing fell out which I asked him about and I told him I'd be willing to pay the fee for replacement but he said not to worry about it. I later came back to get my nose pierced and I got Doug and he treats you so kindly even though it was the second time I've seen him, he gives us this vibe that I feel like I've known him for a while. I couldn't be happier with my piercings! I've also talked to Dan before when I had questions about my piercings and he also talks so kindly So thank you everyone at heroes and villains.

I got my conch pierced and its healing so nicely!!! Ive been to other shops and the healing time and process is PAINFUL, however with this shop I have been able to sleep on the side where I got my piercing and there was any swelling or major pain! I would definitely recommend this place if you want to get pierced by someone who is 100% honest and tells you everything you need to know in order for your piercing to heal properly and pain free!

He was very professional, patient, kind and knew what he was talking about. He never once tried to rush us, in fact he told us to take our time deciding on things. Amazing and friendly service throughout the whole process, I emailed them to ask for availability and if they had an artist willing to do a small Chinese character. They not only answered my question, but they also gave me advice, replied VERY quickly and were accommodating. The shop itself has an amazing vibe and seems very personal. Receptionist was very welcoming and kind, allowing the nerves to settle a little. The artist, Felicia, was very chill and easy to talk to, she did a fantastic job. This was my first tattoo as well as my friend and she made us feel very relaxed and walked us through it.

I've been here twice. The first time was to see Dan for a nose piercing. He was informative about jewelry and suggested anatometal for it's quality. As a paying customer he was helpful. The second time I dropped in with questions about guaging and the material of the plugs I had in my stretched ears. On a Sunday evening three employees were sitting around a computer viewing something entertaining, when I approached the desk I was met with an air of annoyance. Dan answered my questions with arrogance and a very insulting demeanor. I prepared to ask for additional piercings after he answered my questions but after being condescended to and treated like a bothersome visitor I left. My following piercings and stretches were handled by George at Strange World. I won't step foot in Heroes and Villains again.

We called the lady around 6:26 and asked if we can do a walk in for a piercing, even if it was just one. She said if we come in 5 mins we can, we made it exactly 5 mins after we hung up and rushed over and the guy at the front said he couldn’t do it because we were too late. We came at 6:30, he said he couldn’t do it and was EXTREMELY RUDE AND UNPROFESSIONAL. They do not know what customer service is. DO NOT GO.

Nervous about my nipple piercing was an understatement! I dealt with a shy little inverted nipple and getting it pierced had been on my bucket list for as long as I can remember. The front staff was more than welcoming and although I had nerves they sure felt a little better even at the point of checking in. Went upstairs were the piercer Dan was waiting for me and introduced himself right away. Brought me into a private room and explained the process and what all of his instruments purposes were, gave me the opportunity to ask any questions I might have had and joked around to help calm me down. Swore when the piercing went down like a trucker but that’s just cause I’m a little bit of a baby. He knew exactly what he was doing and once the piercing was done and the jewelry had to be installed he used a method that doesn’t pinch too much for clients that seem to be nervous. (Who me?) hahaha! Came in from Spruce Grove to get it done and the down to earth personality and vast knowledge this piercer has makes it more than worth it! If I ever get brave enough to get my other nipple pierced, Dan is the man to do it! Just absolutely brilliant! You couldn’t ask, let alone think of more brilliant, friendly, professional, and intelligent people to handle your body and give you the ideal body modification you desire!

Top quality jewellery and very clean environment and practices. Got 2 piercings and hardly felt anything. He was as gentle as possible. Very happy with the results! Absolutely amazing shop! 5/5 will definitely recommend any of my friends looking for a piercing to go and see Dan. A friend and I went into the shop and I got two piercings done. Dan was very friendly and welcoming, and offered me different types of jewellery although I just wanted something plain to begin with. He then talked me through the sanitising process / did this all right in front of me and explained how the machine cleaning the equipment (needles, barbell.. etc) was working. While the cleaning process was going on he talked me through aftercare and the healing process and how to properly clean in the upcoming weeks/months after it was done. He explained the placement process, and asked how I liked it / if I wanted any changes at all and let me take my time looking in the mirror making sure I was happy with where it was placed. He made sure to check that I was comfortable throughout the process, and told me to please stop him if at any point I was unsure or felt uncomfortable- extremely professional at his job. He also stressed that if I had ANY questions at all to not hesitate to ask, and after I left or in the upcoming weeks to phone into the shop and ask. Dan encouraged me to come back in when my piercings are healed and he would switch out my jewellery whenever needed because I said I may not be comfortable doing it myself. The entire process was wonderful and we had some good laughs up in the room. Very professional, very clean, all around best shop I have been to. I've had a couple mediocre experiences with this shop. I inquired on their facebook page whether they could change my lip piercing jewelry to something I had purchased previously (was willing to pay to have them put it in obviously as I had it done at a different place) and I received no reply even though other comments on the page were being responded too. That is just poor customer service imo, and a little embarrassing regardless of whether they were willing to do it. Went in to get my lip piercing jewelry changed to a smaller bar after getting it done at a different shop. I felt bad so I opted to get some of their jewelry. The piercer wasn't in but a guy at the desk said he could do it for me and I didn't question it, in hindsight maybe I should have. Didn't state any qualifications (if he was an apprentice or something else...?), regardless, a little sketchy. I go to the back and he basically gives me the run down on how my jewelry was pierced with too small a gauge and was at risk for rejection (16g was the originally size). He explained that he was going to replace it with a larger gauge (14g, I think. He also didn't tell me the size he was replacing it with, which is also bad for someone who can't tell by looking). Needless to say, he didn't ask if this was okay and I felt a bit pressured into doing it. I would have rather had my 16g with a good quality piece of jewelry and take the risk, as 14 is wayyyyy too big and noticeable, especially with the size of beads he gave me. After a painful stretching procedure and getting the piercing in I was on my way. Sadly, the beads weren't secured properly so they fell out a mere 4 hours later. Putting it back on was a pain as it was already swelling and irritated. I know they had the tools to secure it better than they did so I wish they would have, I ended up taking out the jewelry the next day when the bead fell off the second time. A bit disappointing after spending 48 dollars for all this. Anyways, I don't think I'll be going back to this shop. The attitude there is a little arrogant and they don't really seem to take customer needs into account as much. The only pros of going there would be they do seem knowledgeable and they use only high quality jewelry. I would rather have customer empathy though. At the end of the day, I can buy my own high quality jewelry and bring it into another shop.

Fantastic place for tattoos and piercings. Staff are helpful and knowledgeable. Its clean and the staff take your safety very seriously. This is the place that I've started my first tattoo and all the times I've been there I was treated well. The artists they have are seriously talented and are more than willing to help you design a custom piece. I highly recommend going here for tattoos or piercings.

I went to get my tongue pierced 2 weeks ago and Dan completely eased my mind and educated me about proper jewelry and proper after care. Also, I went in a few days ago and Doug helped me pick out a new nose ring and he fixed my terrible nose piercing (it was done elsewhere) and he also gave me some tips about my tongue piercing (I went for a down size but it's not ready yet) and my nose, I would 12/10 recommend coming here, I'm definitely going back in the near future for more piercings and some ink! Personally, I had an awesome experience here. It was my first time getting a piercing, and Doug was very knowledgeable, understandable and patient. I got a very mellow and down-to-Earth vibe from the place while still professional. However, I have multiple friends who have gone to this place and have had either bad experiences with the artist, or a botched job. My cousin got a botched Monroe piercing that was placed incorrectly and did irreversible damage to her tooth. Everyone who has told me of their bad experiences here said that they had Dan as their piercer, so if you do plan on going here I highly suggest seeking piercer Doug.

I've had a few piercings done before, yet nothing compared to the experience I got at Heroes & Villans. Dan and Doug are amazing at what they do, and care deeply about it. They won't just shove a needle through you, tell you to clean it, and send you on your way. They educate you every step of the way - process, quality jewelry, aftercare, changing jewelry after healing, etc. After my experience I will personally never let anyone else touch me.

I cannot say enough wonderful things about this shop! I went once to buy jewellery and Dan was so helpful and informative about piercings and sat with me to talk for a long time, much more than he needed to. My friends and I went back the other day for piercings and Doug was there and provided us with the same helpful information and coached us through the process. Doug was so kind, funny, respectful and knowledgeable. Aside from that, he used the principles of consent and told us if at any time we felt uncomfortable or didn’t want him to touch us for any reason to just tell him and he would stop. I have NEVER had that kind of respect from any other piercer in my experience of several piercings done by other prominent places in town. We could not stop raving about how great and fun the experience wth Doug was. If you are getting anything from an ear piercing to an intimate or complex one I cannot recommend anyone higher. I will never go anywhere else again. Don’t be afraid to take your kids in for their ears if you think a tattoo shop is too ‘hardcore’ because Heroes and Villains is THE PLACE for piercings in Calgary.

I had gone in several months ago with a few friends who were there to get a replacement Labret bead that had fallen out. I had recently gotten my PA done at another shop, and wanted to ask a few questions about transitioning over to a lower gauge. The person there (Dan or Doug I believe was his name, cannot recall for sure. Had two large snake bite piercings) was extremely condescending and rude. He decided to take it upon himself to lecture me about how poor my choice of jewelry was, asked me trick questions, dissed the other shop, and basically made me feel embarrassed & ashamed for not knowing what I had intended on finding out. When my friends were done and we left, they apologized for his outrageous behavior. Was a shame too because the shop was clean and had a great aesthetic, the other staff were polite and friendly, but my experience was completely ruined by how awful this person treated me.

I had my nose pierced several months ago by another shop & now that it had healed, I wanted to change the stud to a ring. Stupidly, I went to Claire's for the jewelry & got recommended a 22 gauge by the lady working there (which is way too small). After changing it myself, I noticed it was still really painful after a couple of days so I decided to come see Doug at Heros & Villains to get the right size. Even though he was just changing the jewelry, he provided me with so much information regarding sizing, healing & the REAL cleaning process. He also informed me that my nose started to create a trench scar (something I had never heard of). I was very impressed with his experience & knowledge, I definitely learned a lot more than I would have at any other shop, guaranteed. Some of the facts actually surprised me, but made total common sense! I will be coming back here for more piercings & recommending this place to all of my friends! Such a good experience.

This is the first review I've ever written for a product or place and I have to say I'm extremely happy with my experience. I always read reviews before choosing a place or buying anything and often not the few bad ones stick out than the good but I'm glad it didn't stop me from going here. This was my 4th time getting the same nose piercing but my first experience with heroes and villains with Doug. Very nice place and EXTREMELY knowledgeable. He was super patient and passionate about what he was talking about. It didn't feel like a get in get out process and genuneily cared that I was happy with placement/jewelry and process . My piercing looks better and hurt less than previous places I had gone. highly recommend this place especially if you're new to a piercing and want someone who cares/ is knowledgeable!

Number one shop for piercings, hands down, both piercers are amazing at what they do. Doug has pierced me many of times, not only does he take his time and do it correctly, he walks you through every step, as well as he teaches you a bit about the different types of jewelry out on the market. I've been to two other piercers, only for lobe piercings, rather than going to Doug & two of them are extremely crooked & were pierced with low-grade jewelry. This is the best tattoo shop in the world honestly. Dan is the most educational, experienced, awesome piercer that exists on this mortal coil. Dan was definitely super knowledgeable and tells you exactly what he is thinking. To some he may come off as condescending but that is because he wants to make sure clients know why they shouldn’t be trusting shops that take short cuts and use poorly made jewelry. They are incredibly affordable compared to all the shops I’ve been to in the past. Very clean as well. They have a huge selection of piercing jewelry and they custom made my nose stud in front of me so that it fit perfectly. They have this super cool machine that lets you pick the colour of your jewelry. They are super up front and helpful and don’t try to sell you extra stuff you don’t need. I’ll be going here from now on for all my piercings.

The piercing itself is healing well with no pain and had minimal swelling. It looks and feels great. I probably won’t be going anywhere else for my piercings except here.

I was recommended to try this shop and I wish I saved my time. During the week I called and left a message and never received a reply back so I called again and was able to talk to someone. He told me to come down to the shop. So I went in on my day off (I'll mention that this was a Sunday because I've noticed the lowest reviews seem to happen on Sunday's lol), I pretty much walked into this shop asked a question and walked out. I wanted 2 new pieces of jewellery and was greeted very rudely as if I was bothering them. I told them the pieces I was looking for. The guy looked at my jewellery and said it wouldn't be able to be taken out and replaced. I told him I take it out all the time to clean it and that I have had the piercing for 8 years, he said he was "surprised" that I could. So I asked if I could buy the beads to put on my existing bar and was told no because the jewellery I have is garbage. I didn't even want to waste my time asking about the second piercing.

I had been admiring Felicia’s Instagram submissions for about 6 months prior to booking an appointment as I am super selective with my tattoos. After 2 hours on the one tattoo, her 3 pm appointment did a no-show, so I asked her if she could do an additional 14 small symbols on me forearm which she happily continued on an additional 2 hours. My tattoos look phenomenal and truly her lines are EXQUISITE!! I have 5 other tattoos from different artist/ countries and I have yet to see an artist whose lines are this straight. (I’m sure there are many, but I haven’t met any) Love the friendly staff and atmosphere… the shop is decked out in comic heroes & villains too…. Very cool! I have been going to another shop for a couple years i thought i knew what i needed to know and that all shops jewelry and piercers were the same. boy was i wrong!! i was referred to dan the piercer threw a co worker wife after i told her that i had my septum done and i thought it was crooked (the person who did said it was fine and that it was suppose to be done that way) after telling her that she told me to go see dan. I did and he confirmed that it was not only done wrong, crooked and they used the wrong jewelry also the jewelry they used was not quality jewelry. He was very informative explained everything to me and also showed me the difference in the jewelry and the way things should be pierced.He was also very very nice!! he told me i could contact him anytime if i had anymore questions and gave me his email address.He has since done a few piercings on me including redoing my septum after the area was healed . I also had a private area done by him and he was awesome i was completely comfortable. He explained everything before he did it and it was very quick. we have been slowly switching all my jewelry over to quality jewelry and can totally feel a difference.the shop is amazing clean and all staff know what they are talking about and a very friendly and helpful. i will NEVER go any where else for tattoos or piercings. They are all amazing at heroes and villains.

Now to start off with, I was not the Tatooee, I was the witness. I was expecting waterworks but alas, that was the only disappointment of this visit. Felix is the sort of tattoo artist that even if you have to drive for two hours to get to a shop on the far end of 17th, you do it. You mildly complain cause no one in this city can drive, and you already envision parking is going to be a literal hellscape, but you've got a 4PM appointment and, dangit, you're going to be there. So you walk in and whatever nerves you have melt away as there is so much to look at and take in. You're having a lively conversation about Justin Timberlake and dragon balls, when your S/O is signing their life away to get their first Tattoo. The area is clean and sanitized, everyone is working hard in their respective areas providing clean and super chill service. Its amazing to watch Felix work, as she explains what she's doing, lets you chill on the tattoo table as you await for whatever pain your S/O is about to go through. Unfortunately, Felix has a soft touch, and her hand glides so softly on their skin to etch in art that no tears are shed. Alas. Still 10/10 tattoo experience. The atmosphere is great, the staff are amazing.

I wish I could give more than 5 stars. I've seen both Doug and Dan over the years for my various modification and piercing needs and they are truly the best. Most recently, I went in to get my septum re-pierced by Doug. I wasn't sure if it could be re-pierced since I had a lot of scar tissue from a closed septorhinoplasty to fix my broken nose, and Doug really took his time examining me to make sure my anatomy could still support the piercing. He was super informative and walked me through everything he was doing as he was doing it. When it came time for the piercing itself, I hardly felt a thing. I was calm and at ease the entire time because of the relaxed, yet still professional, atmosphere. Doug also saved my daith piercing a few years ago when it was pierced with inappropriate jewelry from another studio. He educated me on proper jewelry choices without being condescending and switched my jewelry out for me. My piercing immediately calmed down and healed perfectly afterwards. Don't go anywhere else if you're looking to get stabbed. This studio is extremely clean, the staff are the best at what they do, and there's tons of beautiful high quality jewelry on display to drool over.

I went there to get a new nose ring and to be put in as mine from 10 years ago fell out and got very inflamed. Doug was the one who helped me find a new ring and put it in. Came to replace the bead on my tragus piercing, told I had the “old” style jewelry & piercer wouldn’t touch it. Spent $160 for new jewelry (for each ear so they match).. 2 days later the bead on the right ear fell out. Charged $60 for new one. Two days later bead AND bar fell out (same ear) charged $80 to replace. 1 week later jewel fell out of bead, this was replaced for free (same ear)z Have had the piercings for almost 15 years and have lost the beads less than a half a dozen times. The people who work there are SO FRIENDLY AND NICE.. welcoming, warm, wonderful. But having to pay $300 for these tiny pieces of jewelry that were obviously faulty so quickly after having it done is beyond unacceptable

So we went here today to get the piercings my lady was wanting. She usually sees Dan and tends to speak very highly of him. She speaks highly of this place in general, it's the only shop she will go to for a piercing. Today we saw Doug, Dan was unavailable but Doug had apprenticed under Dan from what I understand which alone was enough for her to trust him. Doug has some pretty killer modifications but he's way more chill it seems than the demon eyes wide let on. They were playing some Floyd and had, from what I gathered, a very good taste in music. If you were born late 70's to early 90's then this shop will be a massive dose of nostalgia for you. Biker mice from Mars, He Man, Mars attacks. Everywhere you look is a blast from the past, the glory days when they didn't overkill cartoons and the people with ideas knew that classics come from good ideas that didn't get overplayed. The staff here are so chill and the vibe is probably one of the best I've experienced in this industry. These guys know what they're doing and they won't try to sell you unecessary care products you really don't need.

I called the store to find out if they have non-metal jewellery that I could wear for my surgery the next day and it was a really bad experience. I started off by asking if they have something plastic or acrylic and the guy on the phone scoffed at me and said those materials are a waste of money. Ony when I asked him what possible solutions there are did he say something helpful and recommend glass. I told him what piercings I have and asked if he'd have something for me. He asked about the sizing of my piercings and I replied with the gauges and an overestimate for the length of one (since a longer barbell would not matter for a day). He then continued to keep scoffing at me and telling me that the sizes I told him were wrong and the length was too long. I argued with him that I am certain of the guages and that the length doesn't matter much anyways. To this he replied that my piercer was bad and inexperienced and had pierced me the wrong size. By this point I was getting quite flustered since I JUST wanted to know whether or not the 2km walk would be worth it or if I should go to the place near my house before they closed so I asked the guy to tell me what he had that measured around the sizes I had told him. He scoffed once again and told me he couldn't help me over the phone. This man was so arrogant and rude in his tone and wording I only wish I'd asked him his name.

My fiancé had two microdermals in her neck for about 7 years. Recently, her neck seemed to have decided that one of them would be delicious, and virtually swallowed it. Understandably, she was a bit freaked out, and wanted the microdermals removed. We emailed to set up a next-day appointment and they squeezed us in less than 24 hours later. The appointment itself was professional, clean, informative, and quick. We had the process explained, the alternatives were detailed, in case she ever wanted to get re-pierced with quality Microdermals, and care instructions were laid out. Personally, piercing was something I always found disconcerting, but if I were to ever change my mind, I'd be back to Heroes and Villians in a heartbeat. Highly recommend.

Been there once awhile ago. I made an appointment to get my septum done, they were rude and dismissive in store. Then when I showed up (a 1+ hr travel for me), the piercer wasn't there. He had ditched my appointment that I phoned in and confirmed the day BEFORE and made weeks before, to go out of town. They never phoned me, I didn't get an apology or offer to re book, or even say 'sorry we messed up here's a discount'. They are snobby and rude. They will tell you all your current piercings are crap because they weren't done by holiest of holies piercerdan, and you should buy their 200+ jewelry that is just basic stainless steel. They didn't even apologize they were just like yeah he's out of town. If you aren't heavily modified and snobby like them (I have piercings that are mostly invisible because I need to keep a job), they will treat you like crap and ditch your appointment. Edit in response to shop: I came in person to book my appointment, and talked to someone who told me my appointment was made with PiercerDan , not the apprentice. I talked in detail with them about specifically a septum because I planned to stretch the piercing.

Dan was very informative and knew exactly what he was doing. Funny guy too! He customized the bar to fit my ear rather than forcing something straight to go in. I followed the steps for cleaning and took in the tips Dan gave. The piercing is healing very well and is a lot less of a painful process than I anticipated. I highly reccomend them as they are very skilled and experienced!

Been visiting this shop on and off for quite a few years, dan pierced my sisters ears many years ago, and did many piercings for me also many years ago. Went in recently for 2 purposes, 1. For a tattoo consult which went very well, the artist i spoke with was professional and informative, and 2. For a revamp on some very old, improper ear piercings. dan is a very professional piercer, and explains everything in complete detail of what is going to happen, what you will feel/experience, and what to do. That was always something i really liked about dan. I also had the pleasure of having Doug as dans right hand man, don’t let his different appearance scare you off, he’s one of the nicest people I’ve ever met and is also a very talented piercer. the whole experienced of people in this shop is great, Krystine on the front counter is a sweet heart and is basically in house support if you feel nervous. I had a great experience with felicia. This was my first tattoo Felicia explained everything she was doing and showed me all her equipment. I have low vision and she even took the time to make sure I got what I wanted by taking pictures on her phone so I could see it up close. Thanks for fixing my wife’s piercing. The only qualm is the intense price tag at the end, and the bigger gauge. She didn’t have a 12g and now she does. Her piercing was 14g and I don’t think that was discussed openly. Finding affordable 12g navel jewellery is proving to be really difficult.

I dropped into this shop over lunch to have a piece of jewelry replaced in an older, fully healed piercing. I was able to get in to see someone very quickly on no notice. The piercer, Dan, was SUPER informative about jewelry and piercing know-how, and was able to clarify alot of the problems I have had in the past with my piercings. Their jewelry is of excellent quality and come with a full guarantee - something that is nearly impossible to find with most piercing studios. Dan is an absolute gem! I came in (September/October) to get some dermal piercings done and have a consultation about cutting my earlobes to a larger size along with removing some scar tissue. I was amazed with how professional Dan was and how clean the whole experience was on both occasions. He talked me through everything both times I came to see him and helped me love my earlobes again! I really can't express how calm and safe he made me feel when I got my earlobes done, also this man is like a wizard with stitches, they were perfect! I went there two weeks ago to get my right nostril pierced and the left stretched. Dan was great, informative and all around awesome to deal with. It was the aftermath that I didn’t appreciate, my nose had swelled twice in size and I had called on a Tuesday and the shop was closed, Facebook messaged and asked if I could come in, I was having issues and my nose was swelling overtop of the jewelry. When I got the reply I was asked what type of aftercare I had been doing was then told to “baby it” and take care of it they couldn’t get me in until later in the week. When I had woke up the next day it was worse and I messaged again, this time told to pop it out of my nose to see if it would stay after just being advised to not touch it and baby it, and that they still couldn’t get me in until the following day. At that point frustrated and in PAIN I decided to go against their wishes and go to another parlour where I got the help I needed and had to pay another 60$ for them to tell me that my nose stud was shortened to small on the right side to accommodate the swelling. I’ve heard great reviews but I wish I could request a refund for what I had to deal with and I wouldn’t recommend them to anyone after this.

READ THE WHOLE THING! (I know it's long..) Let me start by saying this is not just a review to slam Piecer Dan, written by some angry jerk. It has taken me a long time to decide to actually say something, but after getting a piercing from my place back home again I feel like I can't be quite anymore. I take responsibility for going against my instinct and going through with the piercing, but I also believe that that is beside the point. I got a snug piercing by Dan almost a year ago, which I can honestly say is the worst piercing experience of my life. I came into the back room at the shop where he works expecting for everything to be similar to how it was when I went to my parlour. Needless to say, it was not. There was no conversation regarding placement, there was no conversation regarding the jewelry that I wanted, and there was no conversation about healing time. Dan also brought his apprentice back to look at my ear while they were deciding where to place it, but he did not ask my permission to bring someone else in and did not introduce me when he did, which made me feel very uncomfortable. After my piercing was complete, I was told that the jewelry was larger to account for swelling, which I have never had before and have never had a problem. It was also not until I asked about after care that he told me his opinion. After care information was conveyed to me in what felt like an aggressive, condescending lecture. I also asked about stretching my ear lobes, to find out that he uses a scalpel on every client. I have been getting piercings for 10 years, I have nine of them, and I have NEVER heard of using a scalpel to pierce anyone that does not have scar tissue. I left the parlour that day feeling horrible about my decision, but I figured "well, at least I have the piercing I wanted..." Fast forward a month of pain, swelling, and my jewelry constantly coming lose: I was sitting as my desk one day, and my snug literally fell out. I have never had that happen in all the years and piercings I have gotten, so I didn't know what to do. I washed the barbell and tried to put it back in, but it was so swollen I couldn't get it through. It was at that point I gave up and decided to go back to my place the next time I was in California. Well, I did go back to my place. I now have a faux snug (a conch-helix because my ear cannot support a snug), that I chose the jewelry for, the jewelry is the correct size, and I have had minimal swelling. The staff at pierced out spoke to me with respect, treated me kindly, asked my permission before doing anything, and narrated the process to me. I am creating this review is because the experience I had with Dan and the experience I had at Pierced Out in San Jose, CA were so vastly different that it made me angry. One thing I will say for Dan is that he does use very high quality jewelry, and his instruments are very clean. Unfortunately that is where my praise stops, and is the only reason why I am giving him two stars instead of one. I would not recommend going to him for piercings, and I hope this review causes him to reevaluate some of his practices when dealing with customers.

I mentioned I was nervous because of my social anxiety and he reassured me that no one was judging me and just the way he spoke to me calmed me down. a week later I'm back here sitting on the couch waiting to have him look at it because my piercing looks like its rejecting but the customer service while I've been waiting has been excellent.

I am 50 years old, and just wanted my ears pierced again after letting them grow over for the last 30 years. I used to work in the surgical supply business, and was very impressed by the sterilization and professionalism of Doug. He took great care of me and the ears are healing great. My only disappointment, was in the jewelry I picked. The girl at the desk did warn me that the larger square would catch more, based on their size and shape. I was not prepared however, for the claws that hold the stone in place, to be so sharp, that they would snag on my pillow case when I tried to sleep. I do not feel that the sharpness of the claws was acceptable, and that the jewelry was defective. In the past, I have never had even the cheapest earings do anything like this. I came to Doug to change the jewelry, and he charged me for new jewelry, and did not refund me for the other jewelry that were defective. A disappointing end to what I was telling everyone was a great experience.
