I went to this place based on location and its Google reviews but was a little disappointed by the experience. The cost was about $50 more than what they had quoted me, and his reasoning was that sometimes it "takes a little longer." It was a very simple piece, and I waited 30 minutes for him to get ready, which has never happened before.

The shop looks awesome inside, and it's a clean, professional environment. The work was incredible, and it seems every day I work I get another compliment about my tattoo, which is healing phenomenally. From the outside, the studio has such little outside presence that it's easy to pass out by and almost not notice it, but I implore you to check it out. Everyone does great work.

Paul was my artist, and he was absolutely incredible from start to finish. I initially contacted him online with design ideas, and asked him if he would be interested. He responded quickly and enthusiastically so I called the shop to book a consult and appointment. We were able to complete this Friday the 13th/Jason Voorhees piece in one session. Paul works with a light hand, has incredible colour saturation, and gave me a minute to breathe when I needed it towards the end of the session. Paul gave great advice for aftercare, and my piece is almost two years old now and looks brand new. tl;dr 10/10 would recommend (already have more than once) and I look forward to bringing my business back to the shop.

I found Black Rider online and decided the reviews look good and to give them a try for 2 small tattoos that I wanted to get done on my arm. I booked in after speaking with someone on the phone about what I wanted. When I arrived they weren't expecting me and asked if I could come back in an hour. That really wasn't filling me with confidence and I didn't have an extra hour to spare. One of the other tattoo artists was just finishing up and agreed to "help me out" but she wanted to leave after doing just one of the tattoos I had scheduled. I paid the $120, left and called my friends to find out where they went for their tattoos...

I've been to Black Rider on and off for the past 6 months getting a large cover up done and I'm more than happy with the experience. I had Eric do the coverup for me after he did a smaller piece on my arm a couple of years ago. Eric is professional, kind, and incredibly talented. My coverup looks absolutely amazing and you can't even tell there's a tattoo underneath. It was a super difficult piece and he worked with it to make sure I would get the best possible outcome. I'm so happy with it! In terms of the rest of the shop, it's a clean, professional, and fun environment. Every one of the other artists and staff members was kind and inviting. There are so many crazy talented people in that shop that you won't be disappointed with anyone coming into it. Highly recommend.

I got my first tattoo here, and it was a great experience! We had called 3 days in advance and with such short notice, (as they do take walk-ins) they were more than happy to take 3 of us! (Although next time I'll make an appointment a few weeks ahead of time) We got there and everyone was super friendly and welcoming. Alison was our tattoo artist, she has incredible work and and didn't seem bothered when 3 of us huddled around her to watch my mom get her first tattoo. She was very quick and accurate with her work, and INCREDIBLY CLEAN. Even when my mom told her she could re-use the bed sheet she laid down for her, for me, she insisted that it was absolutely necessary for sanitary reasons that she change even the bed sheets, and wipe everything down before she starts another tattoo. Thank you to Black Rider Tattoo for the amazing tattoos, and overall great experience! I will definitely be back for another!

I'm going to try to keep my experience/review to the point. I booked an appointment to get my first tattoo after reading the amazing 5 star reviews on this place. It looked promising. I show up on time, but I was shooed away to remain outside because of COVID-19 rules, I'm good with that. 10 minutes pass by... and another customer with lots of leg tattoos gets in line behind me, but after 2 minutes roughly she gets called in. No explanation from the staff. Was she there for a pre scheduled appointment? What about the COVID rules I was just briefed on? I wait outside the shop for another 10 minutes past my scheduled appointment, fine. I finally get in to talk to a tattoo artist, I give my ideas, we took a picture of my arm, and we booked next week to see sketches/ideas.They ask for $50 non refundable deposit. I show up next week on time, but get shooed outside again... the tattoo artist said he will call me in when they are ready, fine. I waited outside (as per COVID-19 rules) 3 customers leave by then. 20 minutes goes by and a customer who shows up AFTER me gets invited in. I'm a big guy so I'm not hard to miss. No explanation again. Nobody comes to brief me on the wait times, and nobody addresses if they/their customers are running late or if they are just doing a wipe down/clean. At this point I'm just waiting. They have my cell number because I received a no reply text message reminding me 2 days before my scheduled appointment. After waiting 39 minutes past my scheduled appointment, I found this place extremely unprofessional/snobby... and as a new customer I did not feel valued. I understand COVID 19 wait times are to be expected, fair, but to show up on time in respect to the artist, and to not have any staff update you? And to see other customers invited in, while you wait outside without an explanation? And so I left with the decision to seek out another business. Maybe this place treats their usuals/referrals 5 star, but as a brand new customer looking to get my first tattoo, this was extremely disappointing. Respect should be shown both ways. It's now past closing time at Black Riders, and nobody follows up with a phone call/and or text in regards to my scheduled appointment that I showed up on time for, and waited. Unprofessional as they knew I was waiting outside for a while. Their actions showed they did not value my business, nor were they considerate of my time as they did not give me a call or text to see where I was after I left. They can keep the $50 non refundable deposit. I have never experienced such arrogance with the staff here. For $50 bucks gain, you have lost my respect and future business. I would not recommend my family or friends in the eastvan neighbourhood to this place. Maybe a 1 hour small tattoo for a new customer isn't worth their time or a big deal vs 3, 4, + hour sessions for others, but I'm perfectly fine going elsewhere after this encounter. I would hate to have a permanent reminder of an awful eexperience

I went and got my first tattoo recently on my birthday with my BFF and we both got matching ones. I was able to send in a sketch of my design and Allison made it into something beautiful. I was scared, and worried about the pain, but Allison made sure I was comfortable, and knew what was happening. She was super patient with me when I made my BFF come hold my hand at first, and, you know what? It didn't tickle, but it wasn't an unbearable pain either! And it was over before I knew it! I love my tattoo, I smile every time I look at it, I am proud to show it off. I don't think I'd go anywhere else, should I choose to get another tattoo (And I think it will!)

My fiancé and I got tattooed by Alison today. For me it was my first tattoo and Alison was extremely professional and had a great chill, non judgemental vibe that made me feel welcome there. Not to mention her work turned out fantastic, my tattoo was very simple but my fiancé’s was a bit more detailed and she did a great job of drawing it up on the spot. The shop itself is very clean, nice decor and good music. Would definitely go back here again!

Had a fantastic experience with Jesse. Once his books were open for appointments he responded to my request right away. I could tell he was excited about my tattoo which made the experience easy and fun. The shop was clean and professional. Jesse and Carlo treated me as family and we rocked it to some weird playlists for the afternoon. My tattoo is amazing, unique and vibrant in colours. I especially appreciate how lovely the guys were throughout the whole experience. I will definitely reccomend to friends and will definitely be back.

Dropped by in summer 2016/2017 with my partner while visiting Van. Jesse is usually booked up for months but had a cancelation that week and managed to fit us both in on the same day. There was a big issue that came up in the shop and Jesse had to step away to deal with it, but made a point to not charge us for the time lost. The tree frog I got is still vibrant and the lines held up great. The other artists present were very skilled and friendly. Definitely looking forward to getting more work from this shop.

I really like this tattoo shop! All of the staff are really friendly and approachable. The shop is impeccably clean. All staff seem exceptionally focused on health and safety. Decor inside is pretty classic for a tattoo shop, lots of really bright flash and interesting art on the walls. Music is good too and not too loud. It's a busy shop but they never rush you. They explain things fully as well. They aren't in it just to make a buck, they inform you of all your choices and help you come to a good decision even if it means they won't make money. Emails are answered super quickly as well! All of the customers who come in the door seem happy as well and are greeted enthusiastically. They treat you the same if you are getting a tiny piece, a big piece, a cover up, or a touch up. One issue I have had with other shops is a sense of elitism and having artists talk down to me. This doesn't happen here. It's really great! I plan on getting many pieces done here for the future, can't wait for my next appointment!
