Wow! I just bought my first custom sports jacket from Alan David and what a great experience it was! This is my first ever custom garment. These guys saved me for my wedding. I trusted one of those new suit companies, Indochino, for my wedding suit. I went with the “premium” option and got measured two months before my wedding. Three weeks later the suit was delivered and it was off in three key areas. I thought, no big deal, I have 5 weeks left, they’ll do an alteration and I’ll be fine. Two weeks later, three weeks before my wedding, the “altered” suit came back, and no changes had been made. So I started researching for rush order custom suits and Alan David came up. I called and the wonderful Elsie answered, and told me it was possible if I came in the next day. I did. And the process was seamless from start to finish. Within 2.5 weeks they got me the perfect suit via rush order. Cosmo primarily helped me. But the whole team was just amazing. Thank you so much for making it happen. Guys, this is your wedding day, if you can afford it, skip the discount options. You won’t regret it at all.

I needed to refurbish my work wardrobe which was looking thin around the edges. I went to speak with several suit makers before making my choice. The entire staff at Alan David were helpful and instructive. You feel more like a family member walking in (and out) than a customer. I had a budget I was looking to meet and knew how many suits I wanted. They walked me through all of the choices, showing me the differences between the fabrics. The suits they made for me look and feel fantastic. I couldn't be happier with my choice. The construction is solid and feels that way. The details are clean and crisp. And the suits all fit absolutely beautifully. Thanks Alan David for a great experience! I'm sure I'll be back for more!

I got sick of trying to find an overcoat off the rack that fit appropriately, so after a quick Googlin' Alan David ended up on my radar. I scheduled an appointment with Elsie (she was an absolute delight throughout the entire process), and hopped the train to Midtown. They had a huge selection of fabrics, tried to upsell me on cashmere which is a biiiiit too rich for my blood. I ended up with a Piacenza 85/15 wool/cashmere blend and a simple slash pocket knee-length Chesterfield coat. Got measured, went home. It took five weeks for the coat to be ready, which was a bit out of spec with the 15-17 working days that their website promises. My second trip to Midtown was the fitting, which went all right but in hindsight I should have spent more time fussing. My third trip to Midtown I picked up the coat (this was two months down the road), I spent a weekend wearing it around town and it became clear that something was off. My arms were getting fatigued and my posture was being crunched a bit. Uh oh! Long story short the gang at Alan David took my concerns totally seriously, they were extremely accommodating of my schedule and pestering emails over the next couple of weeks to make the adjustments needed for a perfect fit. Alan himself assured me that if it didn't work out they could simply re-cut the entire garment, but turned out this wasn't necessary. Their service and attention was top-notch. My coat is simple, elegant, and beautiful, and it's warm without being bulky. Two pieces of advice for future customers: 1) Stand up straight when you're getting measured, you're gonna be looking like a zillion bucks in your new suit or coat and that's going to straighten your spine and give you some swagger. Make sure the tailors see your stance so they can integrate the crucial collar/shoulder position adjustments into your jacket. 2) Do some moving around in your suits/coats when they are fitting the final product on you, so that you can experience the full range of motion of a normal day. The office has some comfy chairs: sit down in them. There's a big hallway outside: Take a walk or three. Don't hesitate to ask questions and keeping talking through anything you observe that isn't 100% right. I was a little intimidated initially considering the scale of the purchase and the fact that I'd never really worn a full overcoat before, which resulted in me heading out the door in something that wasn't ideal. Thanks Alan David, I'll be back next time I need a suit!

MOST MEN, I believe, never know the deep pleasures of properly fitted attire. We mostly live in one-size -fits-none or hand-me-downs that exaggerate our physical flaws. But a custom suit like these is having a second skin that allys itself with you and makes you more than you imagined. (Today, a Monday, I rode the elevator to Alan David with a polite, severely heavy man in distressed jeans that emphasized his Costco-grade belly. Minutes later he was in a dark suit that eliminated 50 pounds, as well as some shyness. He came for a fitting but gained assurance.)

I was getting married so I needed a tux as well as a suit. I am a very very difficult fit, I am very muscular on top and have a trim waste, nothing ever fits me off the rack. I wanted a trim look without it being super skinny. My brothers friend had suggested Alan David so while I was going in pretty sure what to expect, I was still a little nervous since I had never done custom and it was for my wedding. Here is my review. Service-Here its 10 stars. Alan walked me through every possible option on the garment. I never knew there were so many. He told me what would happen, when it would happen and how the entire process would work. From measuring to styling to follow up he was always great. My work schedule is so crazy that he even arranged for the final fitting to be done locally so I did not have to travel. And he has a beautiful showroom, this is not a Willy Loman type of operation, so that was much appreciated. Price-9 stars for this. It was a bit pricey but well worth it. You know with clothing when a garment really fits the right way it makes all the difference in the world. When I put on the suit that was made with a double breasted vest and my fiancée saw how good it looked, well, price just goes out the window. Having said that the tux was $1600 and the suit was $1200, really good prices when you consider I went to Barneys and Saks and the price of their off-the-rack suits were higher than Alan David prices. Quality-10 stars. I was very comfortable knowing the suits were made in the states. As soon as I put the tux on I could feel how well it seems to be made. In fairness, I am not a tailor but I can tell you the place was busy there, so the quality must be good, there were probably about 200 suits waiting to be picked up so between how it felt and what I was told and where it is made the quality seems awesome. Fit-50 stars!!!. Unreal fit, just unreal. Narrow shoulders, higher armhole, tapered sleeves, slim cut trouser, perfect vest-shall I go on. This suit made me look better than any suit I had ever worn. Alan took a lot of measurements but wow, what a payoff. People at the wedding and after the wedding gave me so many compliments. Here I just plead the fifth and say just leave it in their hands. They do something with patterns and something with hand cutting, I don’t know, I don’t want to know. If they can make the suit and tux so good I figured why ask any more questions. Style-10 stars. More styles than I expected to deal with. Jacket length, button stance, lapel width were just a few. Alan made certain suggestions but here I knew what I wanted. He was on the fence with the double breasted vest and rightfully so but it looked sharp, really made the whole outfit. Final thoughts-myself as well as my 2 brothers got outfitted here. We are all different sizes but they all came out wonderful. Alan is easy to deal with and I would trust him with any of my clothing needs going forward.

I needed a suit to attend a friend's wedding and opted for a custom suit for the occasion rather than the usual off the rack option.There is basically a three-step process. First, you get fitted and pick out your fabrics and garment details. I had a pretty good idea of what I wanted my suit to look like and with the assistance of the lovely lady who took my measurements, the entire process took less than an hour . She was very helpful with great suggestions but never pushy. After the fitting, the suit usually takes three or four weeks to be made, but due to the proximity of my event i asked them to rush the process and they promised to make it happen within 10 days. Sure enough, I received a phone call 10 days later to come by and try on the suit and make some adjustments. The fitting was absolutely perfect and the only needed alteration was a minor adjustment to the length of the pants.and voila! The fit is absolutely stunning and it was worth every penny! I will de back in the fall for more!

My story was a good one and I feel I must share it. I was recently married and my husband thankfully has a good job which requires him to wear a suit everyday. He literally still has suits that are 10 years old with holes and everything. We went shopping to Alan David and it was great. Here are the highlights; -The initial consultation was nice. It was on a Sunday so it was quiet. Alan explained everything about how the suits are made in New York and showed us a million different fabrics but gave very good suggestions about fabrics that don’t crease a lot and how to clean suits without dry cleaning them to make them last longer. It was very pleasant. Even hubby was okay with it. -We bought 1 suit, 2 pants and 2 shirts as a test. The shirts came direct to my home, he tried them on and we felt one sleeve was a bit long so they shortened it and it was fine. I would rate the shirts average to above average. -The suits were ready about 3 ½ weeks after purchase and they really fit well. My husband works out and likes things slim. The suit made him look buff. It really fit well. He has worn the suit twice so far and it really wrinkles very little. The pants were also great. -The price was a bit high compared to their competitors but it was hassle free so it was worth it for us. To save a few hundred dollars but have to worry just is not worth it. Plus I love the made in NY thing. I think you out there should give this place a try based on my experience. Never do I post but this is the only place I have ever been that is real custom-they do what is called a slip on garment which is basically a shell of the suit with the canvas and inside of the suit showing (not yet complete). I am a size 60 chest with a big butt so when we put the "shell" on I was able to make certain changes like we made the shoulders a little narrower and the lapel a little smaller and the pant thigh was a bit tight so they released some fabric there. Then about a week later the shell was a complete suit with all the adjustments made and there were no surprises because I had already tried it on so of course it looked perfect. The only negative was that the price of the suit ($1500 for a super 140s solid navy) was high for me but it just fit so well I can "almost" overlook that, especially for that kind of quality. i think they make the suits very well, time will tell but I was quite pleased with the final product. Also with the shell they only do it for hard fits or what they consider a hard fit so if u have had trouble in the past with fit ask for it-I guess at a size 60 it was automatic shell. Hope this all helps.

However once you have found them the excellence in the service and attention to detail for the suits they offer are the highest of quality. They showed me a variety of choices of fabrics and colors. I can’t speak highly enough about the experience I had purchasing my first custom suit and shirts from Alan David Custom. I had researched the various custom suit stores throughout the New York City area, read all the reviews, and ultimately decided to go with Alan David Custom for my first bespoke suite and custom made shirts. Deciding to put my trust in Alan David Custom was by far the best decision I could have made. For those reading this review and trying to decide where to go for a custom made garment, look no further than Alan David Custom! The staff that I worked with had truly exceeded my expectations, and Alan David Custom completely lived up to their reputation for delivering the highest quality custom craftsmanship and the guaranteed perfect fit. The level of customer service and the bespoke experience that I received throughout the entire process was exceptional. When I contacted Alan David Custom to make an appointment I was greeted by Elsie, their customer concierge, who booked my initial appointment and took the time to fully explain the step-by-step process I would go through when I arrive for my appointment. Elsie was very pleasant, and she had thoroughly answered all of my questions, which helped to put me at ease regarding the process I was about to experience. When I initially arrived for my appointment I met with Elsie, who walked me over to their consultation area where I was introduced to Erika, one of Alan David’s top master stylists (whom I highly recommend!) Erika and I sat and discussed in length the requirements in designing a custom made suit and shirts (reviewing all the things that I would like to see in a custom suit and shirt, and the things that I disliked), which would assist them in crafting the perfect garments for me. After our discussion, Erika showed me an array of fabrics and guided me through the selection process. She thoroughly explained the differences in the various fabrics available, and helped me in deciding on the fabrics that would be used in crafting each of my garments. During the entire time, there was never any pressure or up-selling that took place. I never realized the many details and decisions that need to be made in order to create a custom garment, however, Erika (a true master in her trade) made the entire process a very enjoyable experience. The final step was the measuring process, where I met with Gui, one of Alan David’s expert fitters. Gui is a true expert in his craft, and is very thorough and meticulous to the extreme (in a good way)! He took what seemed like over 50+ different measurements, using several different measuring tools throughout the process, in order to ensure that each garment would be the full true custom fit (that Alan David Custom is known for). I was promptly notified when my garments had arrived, and I immediately setup an appointment for an initial fitting. Upon arrival, I tried on each of the garments under the watchful eye of Gonzalo, who is another expert fitter at Alan David Custom. Each of the garments appeared to fit great; however, nothing seems to escape the meticulous eye of Gonzalo, who felt there were some minimal adjustments that were needed in the suit jacket in order to achieve the perfect fit. When I returned several days later for my final fitting, everything had fit perfectly, and I was reminded that if I had any issues with any of the garments after I started wearing them, to just come back in and they would fix it to my liking. Bottom line - everyone that I met and who worked with me throughout the entire process at Alan David Custom went over and beyond to ensure that no matter what needed to be done, that I was 100% happy with every aspect and detail of each custom made garment. If for any reason there was anything that I was unhappy with, or wanted changed, they would take care of it without an issue. I believe Alan David has truly created a unique, one-of-a-kind experience, where he and his entire staff made me feel like part of the Alan David family, rather then a customer!

This is my second 5-star review of Alan David Custom (ADC). I wrote my first review after purchasing four custom suits and four custom sport coats in 2018-19. I recently decided that I wanted to order some custom slacks as well; however, I wasn't sure if / how that might work given that I live in Kansas City, have not traveled to NYC on business since before the pandemic and have no prospects of doing so for the next several months. When I checked ADC's website, I was delighted to see that they are now offering virtual consultations (the kind of adaptation very well-run businesses make). Scheduling the consultation was easy; at the appointed time, I had a 20-minute Zoom session with Rosario and explained the style of pants I was looking for, color, material and price point. Because ADC still had my measurements from the suits I'd ordered previously, Rosario said they could work from those and no additional measurements would be needed. He followed up after the session via text to help me choose between a couple of different shades for two of the colors. He also told me the pants would be shipped to me in four to six weeks. 42 days later - six weeks to the day - the pants arrived via UPS. The fit, drape and fabric were perfect. To sum up, the entire process was handled beautifully from start to finish, as were my previous dealings with this fine company. They deserve to be the tailor for anyone whose expectations are for nothing but the best.

They have perfected the fitting process that no basted fitting was needed and only minor nips and tucks and the suits have been wonderful. You are paying for quality and the best fit in the city. The reviews are all correct. My experience with Alan David Custom Suits was excellent. My first appointment was to pick out the brand, the color of the fabric (dark blue) and proceed to get fitted. After my initial fitting, my custom suit was ready to be made. I was called in less than one month for my initial suit fitting. As with any bespoke suit, there were small alterations to be made. These alterations were adjusted within one week and I came back for my final fitting. Everything was perfect with the exception of a minor adjustment which was altered on the spot for me. Everyone I dealt with at Alan David was polite, professional and a pleasure to work with. I had especially a great time talking with David who by the way has made custom suits for former Heavyweight Champions of the world such as George Foreman and Mike Tyson, respectively. Don't be fooled by the slightly seedy Midtown office building, where the doorman gives you a sideways look as you wait for the elevator. It takes you to the seventh floor, past your usual shlocky looking law office door down the hall and left and into Alan David's showroom. It's not new, it doesn't look like much, nobody butters you up by offering you a glass of scotch, and there are no other allegedly bespoke-y accoutrements that distract you from the goods (and the cost of which surely is baked into the price of your suit). They're all business at Alan David, and they know exactly what they're doing. The salesman was an older gentlemen, who listened patiently to my ramblings and showed me a bunch of nice fabrics in various qualities. He was very good at explaining their features and pros and cons (he also discouraged me from looking at some more expensive, very high thread yarns because the fabric tends to wrinkle quickly making it not the most practical). The fitter too was an older gentleman, with an Italian accent that conjured up images of his apprenticeship in a Naples tailoring shop, resulting in confidence that he too knows what he is doing. And he is. I negotiated some details, such as a barchetta pocket (sigh, I too am a sucker for men's sartorial fads), and Alan, the owner, was nice, helpful, knowledgeable and patient about it. (One complaint: I came to a meeting and waited in vain for 25 minutes, while he was speaking on the phone in his office.) I also had to wait about five weeks (strikes me as at the upper end of normal for a garment that is made from scratch) until I got a fitting of the "raw" suit. During this so-called basted fitting some details were adjusted here and there - not much. I'm 5'11'' and 165 lbs, so it's not that hard (although, in the spirit of oversharing, I have sloping shoulders and slouch a little - they took care of it). The suits are made in Alan David's manufacturing shop in Queens, and not in China. While one can argue whether factory-made means it's totally bespoke (some say that means it must be all hand-sewn by one tailor), it's pointless in my view if the quality is there - it is, see below. Making the suit here may be a touch more expensive but alterations to the semi-final product will be made quicker and by the people who actually made the suit. Plus this supports a traditional trade (keep America great). It's all prepaid, so that requires a bit of a leap of faith the first time around, but I went by the many good reviews and was not disappointed. Now finally, the goods: First rate quality. My suit was made from a Zegna fabric (not cheap but worth it) and it fits like a glove. Wearing it I finally feel like a cross between an gentiluomo strolling down the streets of Milan and James Bond (never mind the sloping shoulders). The cut is contemporary, the proportions - width of lapel, placement of notch - match my frame, the stitching is pretty, and the lining contrasts nicely - fanciful but not too fanciful. (Alan pulled out a better lining fabric book when I was not too impressed with the standard offerings, and let me choose one of them, at no surcharge.) The detailing of the pants - waistband, buttons, reinforcement band above heel - and the inside pockets are "comme il faut", and as far as I can tell after a few outings in the suit very well tailored and moves with me nicely whether I walk or sit. I wear suits all the time and this one clearly is the best I've ever had. I fear I have to go back for more.

I had a black custom tux made for me last year that I planned to wear to my own wedding, and I loved it so much that I went back and had them make a midnight blue tux for the wedding. They know their craft, I was unsure of the material that I wanted for the midnight blue tux and it was tough to get a feel for what it would look like just as a piece of material on the table. They told me to trust them that this was what I wanted and sure enough it looked amazing. Tons of people asked me where I got the tux and remarked that it looked amazing. Alan David is my go-to place for customized men's clothing. For context, I have completed multiple purchases of custom suits, sports jackets and shirts; I have been a customer for a little over two years and it is the only place I would go for men's custom clothing because it fulfills all that I could ever wish for as a customer. The eponymous owner Alan is very hands-on and will go to great lengths to ensure his customers are completely satisfied with their experience. Alan David really emphasizes each customer receiving a perfect fit. I found their measurement process to be exacting and reflective of the highly experienced tailoring staff. They don't take short-cuts and they maintain a laser-like focus on getting your individual details right. You will learn from them as well. Alan David has access to a wide variety of cloths and mills. I have used them for everything from conservative suits for business formal events to colorful sports jackets for more festive occasions. Alan's staff are of high-quality and, like Alan, they do their craft with integrity. What do I mean by this? For starters, the sales staff won't be pushy or seek to have you go beyond your stated budget; they will be transparent with you about costs (i.e. no hidden charges and tack-ons); they will use their expertise to tell you whether something needs to be altered even slightly (for which they bear the cost) in order to ensure the fit of the garment is perfect. Alan David will be straightforward with you about how long something will take to be made; they will not over-promise and under-deliver. When any aspect of the process does not meet your expectations, Alan himself will step in to correct the issue. Even in the description of "custom" suits, Alan David is truthful and transparent in describing the step-by-step process by which garments are made. If you check out the competition you will see that there is often much less transparency about where garments are made, by whom and how, etc. Rather than focus on ancillary experiences in connection with the custom-clothing process for the customer (e.g. businesses that appear to operate in a high-end lounge or faux-United Kingdom club-type environment), Alan David's singular focus is on providing the perfect-fitting, highest quality made garment for its customers at a reasonable price. On price, I believe he compares really favorably to the competition. As a reference point, you can get a great, business formal custom suit at Alan David for less than you could a higher-end off-the-rack suit at Paul Stuart and with a better fit/much greater control of the final product due to it being customized. My advice to a potential customer is to connect with Alan directly once you have had an initial appointment; his command of all of the granularity of his business will make you feel as though you are in highly capable hands. I also have enjoyed working with David from the sales team, who is deeply experienced and a straight-shooter as to what will or may not look good on you. Each of their tailors is excellent. I give Alan David my highest recommendation.

Got a suit and a custom shirt from them. Before this I have had 1 custom suit from HK, 2 bespoke suit from another tailor in NYC and a MTM suit from Martin Greenfield. Off-the-rack suit that I owned were also alternated by those tailors before. None of the above could fit better than what I got from Alan David. Sure the mark-up is higher, but fit always comes first now that we step into the bespoke world. right? Also great selection of shirt material from Thomas Mason Goldline to 'Hudson' white... Price is not low. But quality is guaranteed.

Excellent! The staff is extremely friendly and not pushy at all. My suit was made with special love and care from Cuff to Cuff. I will never buy an off the rack suit again, because of my bone structure it is impossible for me to find clothes that fit me. I am a 26 year old male with an athletic build just 6 feet tall, and my back and shoulders have always been too wide for off the rack suits. Another long standing issue that I have is that typical pants never fit my quads and still look tapered. I recently had a suit crafted by Alan, it was perfect, fit like a glove, the only issue was that I had requested pleated pants and inadvertently non-pleated pants were made for the suit. Alan didn't blink an eye! All that he had to do was to make another pair of pants for me, but no, a tribute to his professionalism, pride in this product and stellar reputation, he made an entirely "new" suit for me!! I mean, what bespoke tailor do you know of that is so concerned with servicing his client base, to the best of his ability, that he would willingly take a financial loss to make a client happy. I was in need of some work slacks and was referred to Alan David Custom, by a friend who lives in the New York area. I have an athletic build and have found it impossible to buy dress slacks, off the rack anywhere.
